If we, as educators, settle
for what is instead of what could be, our students lose out. Share a “What if” that inspires you to want to improve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A1: WHAT IF we can create schools and communities of learners that build on and develop the passions, strengths and talents of unique individuals to help everyone find their place in the world? #tlap
A1: What if I broke out the norms to give my Ss experiences like no other that will carry them not only pass the classroom by beyond into their careers. #tlap
A1 What if every teacher/admin led with their heart & put the needs of each student first; based every decision on what is best for kids & transformed learning to empower, uplift, celebrate, to be kind & create a difference in the world? I am inspired! #tlap#LCInnovation

#tlap#LCInnovation
A1: The "what if" that drives me each day to do more, be more so that my Ss can do more and be more is "What if I can find a way to put a key into the hands of my small town Ss that will open all doors because they know they CAN." #tlap#LCInnovation

#tlap#LCInnovation
A1: Something that I tell my Ss parents is that I believe I teach future world leaders, chefs, plumbers, business execs, scientists etc. My "what if"? What if I am the person who can help my students see this in themselves! #tlap@ERobbPrincipal@burgessdave@katiemartinedu
TY @nankr1120 for bringing this chat to my attention! Alyssa from Pittsburgh, Pa. Former T, now @EVERFI tech coach. Having a snack & looking forward to learning! #tlap
A1: Watching Ts come alive and re-ignite their passion for empowering students. Asking the simple question of what can I do to support you for Ss? #tlap
A1: What if...all students regardless of whether they are gen. ed., spec. ed., ELL had the same opportunities for success! That is what I strive to make happen in my school. Everyone should have the same chance to achieve #tlap
Q1:
If we, as educators, settle
for what is instead of what could be, our students lose out. Share a “What if” that inspires you to want to improve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A1: What if students could choose to spend multiple days, weeks, even months doing an in-depth study of one "thing" (that'd likely cross various disciples) instead of being forced to pause their learning one hour to the next? #tlap
A1: what if all students would put their phones away while in class inspires me to continue to find engaging activities so they want to work and not be on their phones
#tlap

A1 - What if I used every minute of the 180ish hours I have with students to their fullest potential. What if every student learns something important every day in my classes. #tlap
Q1: What if my Ss just needed a LITTLE bit of a push to get through a struggle? Don't I owe it to them to keep pushing, even if some are not willing to? #TLAP
A1: "What if" one of the conversations that I had gave someone hope and the confidence to keep fighting and change the world? Make every encounter worthwhile. #tlap

#tlap#LCInnovation
A1-What if we ignored the negativity and and let go of the insecurities and just did whatever it took for our students to be successful. All of the extra noise can be distracting and creates self doubt. Just own it and do what you k own is right for kid #tlap
Q1: what if upper admin and local law makers were all on the same page as the educators that are in the classroom with the students every single day? What a difference that would make! #tlap
A1: I am constantly driven by the question, "What if I was successfully preparing students for the future economy?" Education tends to change slowly but the economy changes fast. That reality concerns me daily as an educator #tlap#LCInnovation
A1: what if every classroom in every school was a place where every child felt safe, had every need met, and had every lifelong passion supported? #tlap
A1: WHAT IF every teacher made one change in their classroom, to focus on relationships over data, for one year??? How would the culture of the school, the community, and beyond change? #tlap
A1: What if I settled for the current reading status of my kiddos and said that is all? That isn't all there is always more and I will continue to strive to find and do more. #tlap
A1: WHAT IF... we believe our students! We believe their challenges, their struggles, their fears, & resistance. We let them know we hear them, see them, & will walk with them through it. #tlap
A1: What if... school is the only place our students have that provides them access to #edtech The digital divide is quickly increasing and we have the opportunity in our schools to help level the playing field for students #tlap#LCInnovation
A1: What if...there was a better way to teach that reached even one more kid...that is a hunt I love to be on. Changing up our instruction does not mean we were wrong, we are just looking for better. #tlap#LCInnovation
Q1:
If we, as educators, settle
for what is instead of what could be, our students lose out. Share a “What if” that inspires you to want to improve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A1: “What if” learning was truly defined by every child... by their strengths... their passions! “What if” they grew up learning about themselves instead of guessing at 18 as to what lies ahead for them? #tlap#LCInnovation#Nan3EDU
A1 What if...I'm the teacher that sees the postive instead of the negative in a student and helps them discover their love of learning. It's that important! #tlap#552bobcat
A1) What If EVERY teacher brought it EVERY day for EVERY kid and EACH other? What if we could get EVERY student demonstrating years worth of progress each year? What if I could get a WINN block to get a 10:1 student ratio 45 mins a day? #TLAP
A1: What if school was a place where kids wanted to be? Where they could pursue their passions? Where the focus was growth rather than grades? Where they could build, make, create, and play? #tlap
A1 What if I'm the only person she trusts and I'm too busy to listen... How many times have we told a student, "Not now, I'm busy"? Pause. Listen. #BeTheOne#tlap
A1 What if...my students show up and they already know the content? Remember we teach students and should never be CONTENT with teaching CONTENT! #tlap
A1: What if ... we changed school? What if we made it about curiosity and questioning and less about a standardized test? What if each child learned at their own pace? #tlap
A1: What if all students felt they were in a comfortable place and learn that they have the power to do good, be kind, and to become anything they imagine? #tlap#LCInnovation
A1 what if everyone could see new ideas in education as step forward instead of a threat. Things like student centered learning and 21st century skills aren’t that different or far off from ideas from years ago. They are not new just repackaged #TLAP

A1 What if there were NO grade levels or subjects?
What if we were all REAL and inspired those we serve to be REAL?
Relatable
Expose Vulnerability
Approachable
Learning through Life
How might those dynamics change edu for the better?
#tlap
This is a great question, and I personally believe should be one of the most important guiding questions when we design our lessons. #tlap@ERobbPrincipal@PHausTech@misskoplin
"What if" one of the STEM projects projects we've worked on led a Ss to further explore and design something which solves a problem in the world for someone?#tlap
A2: We discussed inquiry learning today during out institute day. With the technology we have available, research, thinking, and application skills become easier to utilize. #tlap
A1 What if I could lead a school in which we could inspire students to be more than they ever thought they could be? If we could live the mantra..Every student, every day, whatever it takes. What if, we could have a school that students want to run in, instead of out? #tlap
It would! I think about how much I enjoy learning new things and I don't know it holds the same excitement for all kids because their life circumstances don't look like mine. So much for them to weed through. #TLAP

A2 changed my traditional teaching, organized rows, me talking to flexible spaces, small groups, interacting with each S and group, focusing on relationships more #tlap
A2: I got away from busy work because I had it to making more engaging and reflective work. PBL and going out side comfortzone for my Ss and myself. I couldn't do: "I want to be like this teacher" I had to teach the way I wanted to teach. #tlap
A1: What if...I can do all of these things so that I can REALLY just help teachers teach & learners learn? That’s all I really ever want to do. This quote inspires me. #tlap
I’m here! Just slid in late with no intro...
I’ll fix that for you ladies.😜😘

✨A1: How can we not foster students' passions, strengths, and talents?
"We have unbelievably talented kids sitting in front of us and many are starving for the opportunity to display their creativity."-@burgessdave#TLAP✨
A1: What if I teach only the standards and don’t build relationships with my kids? I don’t even want to think how sad that would be for them and myself! #tlap
A2 I believe developing a PLN and following blogs and podcasts have changed my perspective and given me a true sense of possibility, passion, growth, purpose and service #TLAP
A1: What if we could all recognize that a test may never show the true talent of a child who walks into the classroom and we must find a way to see the whole child through many lenses. #tlap
A2 - There are too many examples because if I am not adapting every day to the needs of my students, district, and world, then my class will not succeed. Students need a teacher that is adaptive and engaged with the world in order for the class to be engaging and adaptive. #tlap
A2: I think our roles have turned more towards SEL and what we can give kids beyond content and skills. How can we motivate? How can we guide and advise? How can we be the difference? #TLAP
A1. Kirsten from MD jumping in on my last day of break: staying up with you vs. sleeping is worth it! What if I could engage in meaningful conversation with all 150 of my Ss every day? What if I could just give feedback and no scores? What if Ss never took a test again? #tlap
A2: We transformed our traditional computer room space into an Innovation Lab and have rocked out with small group station rotations, student-focused learning experiences and more! Take a peek! https://t.co/4iS7y4bYGE#tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2 Went from a classroom where I made all the decisions and planned everything out and kept all things the same for everyone to a class where voice and choice reign. Where we have fun, we celebrate, we build relationships. One where we make a difference. Never going back. #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2: I have personally evolved by realizing relationships have to come first before anything in our schools can happen. Relationships with students, staff, parents, community, just RELATIONSHIPS! #tlap
A1: What if all Ts had the necessary training, resources and heart to reach and teach Ss who have experienced trauma? What if we found how to meet them where they are? #tlap
A1: What if Learning is always life changing? Instead of fixating on grades and such, we offer opportunities for stewardship, graciousness, and a better understanding on what it means to be human with nature? #tlap
A2: I no longer am the Sage on the Stage. The devices can provide answers and connections. I now empower my Ss to discover and create with my guidance. Ss can learn and do without me holding the power. Am giving more of it over to them daily. #tlap#LCInnovation
I talk less now, I stopped front loading content, and incorporate more choice and student led activities. And I teach more like a pirate now since reading the book and participating in a school wide book study #tlap
A2: Student now have access to information at will. The challenge is not learning information it is finding and applying information. My class has shifted from a focus on the content to a focus on the learning process. #tlap#LCInnovation
A2) Just simply stepping aside, not trying to take control but instead allowing the students to be in control. I recognized need to be a guide not the “Sage on the Stage” #tlap
A1: what if all teachers on a campus show up with the enthusiasm, mindset, planning, and passion that kids deserve each and every day? How powerful would that be for the community? #TLAP
Q1:

#tlap#LCInnovation
#tlap#LCInnovation A2 We created “cultural conversations” for our Ss. Our HS CE class discussed current issues with a class in Monterrey Mexico & this Wednesday 4/4 our sociology class will be discussing gender inequality with a class from Argentina 🇦🇷.
A2: increased emphasis on the social/mental wellness of our kids, how negative circumstances impact education and what we as classroom teachers can do to help. #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
What if teacher evaluations were based on MLK’s “Life’s Blueprint” instead of silly, superficial summative standardized test scores? #TLAP#Martians4Life
A2: I'm relatively new to the profession (3 years) but I have seen the role of teacher move from a simple sage on the stage to become a guide to learning. Do I still do storytelling in class? Yes. But my 85 minute block has never been just me talking the whole time! #tlap
A2: I transitioned from the mindset of powerpoint, lectures, worksheets and teacher centered classroom to a student centered, student empowered, and student led classroom. #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A1 what if developing creative capacities of every child was a priority. What is the arts were a requirement not an elective? What if creativity was embraced as a mindset not a product. What if ss created from a place of passion & purpose, not compliance & conformity. #tlap
Q2: my role evolves every minute of the day to meet the social-emotional needs of each one of my learners. It’s important to me that my students feel like they are in a safe environment so they can learn to the best of their ability but creating it is different for each kid #tlap
A2: As a principal, I try to get out of my office as much as possible. I try to be hands on because that is what the teachers need and that’s what the students need. Being visible helps to build strong relationships. I must continually evolve to meet their needs. #tlap
A2) students don’t need a teacher to give them facts. They can get that info on google or asking Alexa. They need to create, analyze, problem solve, take the info and think critically about the learning. Less busy/passive work...roll the sleeves up! #TLAP
A2 I work on restorative practices w my Ss, I share the power w Ss, I read research that agrees with my philosophy on teaching, such as the marginalization of minorities, hegemony, meritocracy & how to provide real opportunity, equity & access #tlap
A2: I was shown this the other day: "The Evolution of the Desk" https://t.co/p6fPnyCWWz My job has meant realizing information obtainable, students communicate with the outside world every second of the day, & its vital to be communicating & sharing your story #LCInnovation#tlap
A2 My approach to how I build relationships with students has shifted greatly. I'd rather they learn self control/regulation to respond appropriately to their environment over sending facts/information back to me on an assessment #tlap
A2: When I first started teaching I curated information and curriculum to bring them to information, now I curate questions and encourage them to discover. #tlap
#tlap A2: One of my learners is my son who is on the spectrum. All preconceptions had to be thrown out the window...and he is thriving!!! #AutismAwarenessDay#autismacceptance
Anytime. Hey Dennis, in just two months you can have a whole book of that acronym.☺️
Right, @burgessdave ?
I’m super pumped for #REALedu to be in print REAL soon. #Honored#tlap
A2: I have shifted my focus more on building relationships, safety, and trust in the classroom. When Ss have these components, more learning is likely to occur. It is also to guide my lesson planning to ensure I am meeting the individual needs and interests of my Ss. #TLAP
A2: I have recently done community service for 25 hours at an after-school program. It has taught me patience, but I realized that these kids are underprivileged. I taught them some magic tricks, and it has taught them some fun ways to memorize and learn tricks! #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2: I'm letting go of what people think when they walk into my room. If I am truly committed to giving each kid what they need--it will look different than compliance (this is my big growth and planning spot right now) #tlap
A2: We must practice what we preach! Modeling risk-taking, lifelong learning, curiosity, vulnerability, & bravery! If we expect our Ss to do it, we should eagerly jump in and do it, too! Never rest on our laurels! #TLAP
Q1:
If we, as educators, settle
for what is instead of what could be, our students lose out. Share a “What if” that inspires you to want to improve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2: In our Lab, our environment is very learner-centric where they are responsible for resolving their own problems. As facilitators, we are no longer the dispenser of information, but the motivator to continue quests for answers. #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2 I have found myself counseling more students now. Our Ss have unique needs and they need someone to hear them out and help them find their passion! #tlap
A2. It's about building relationships with Ss. It's all about the Ss in learning celebrating their successes, sharing stories, hearing about their families. Sharing smiles! #tlap
A2: I have had to learn to tailor my activities and lessons to a 21st century learner, focus on problem solving and questioning and more project-based learning. I love it! #LCInnovation#tlap
A2: we've created empathy based maker infused experiences for our Ss at all grade levels and subjects. Students are empowered to learn at their own pace and direction. #tlap
#tlap#LCInnovation We have also take classes to Russia, Canada, France, Sweden, Israel and Denmark. Students can now practice geography skills and share their culture in real time with the other class.
A2- Learning new engagement strategies to allow brain breaks and crossing the midline: I’ve always used multiple activities, but these brain-based researched moments help the info get in there and stay in there. #tlap
A2 I have embraced the idea that Ss should be spending the majority of time processing their learning in multiple ways/multiple times a class. #edtech is a great way to do that so you can many places at the same time #tlap
A2: I am always looking for a better way to get Ss to understand more deeply and apply things to new situations. Never stop researching, there is always someone out there doing it better than you. #tlap
A2 I’m focusing on tearing down the classroom walls, making learning relevant and authentic while connecting globally with others in meaningful ways. #tlap
A2: I am an instructional & innovation leader first and foremost as elem principal. No chair at my desk, prioritize being in classrooms, and learn alongside Ts.
I HAVE to be the change we seek. #tlap
A2: I've gone from expecting Ss to change to fit into my 'perfect student' mold while I remained rigid and instead have tried to constantly and relentlessly change what I can change (instruction, environment, how I relate to them, etc.) to help Ss meet my expectations. #tlap
A2: I started by planning lessons around what some external force told me to teach. Now, I plan inquiries, mini-lessons, and other guidance based on what learning students are pursuing. #tlap
A2: I am a facilitator of the #IngeniousLab#Nan3EDU A student centered-driven learning environment that thrives on Voice & Choice! #30SecEmpowerPitch has been a game changer! 👊💥 #tlap
Significantly more project based learning. Assessments are open note and students can consistently engage in revisions and reassessments. All my lectures are now videos and students control their own pace and work towards skill based mastery. #tlap#LCInnovation
A2: I’ve evolved from thinking I needed to be the one in control of everything to now being the facilitator & letting my Ss take the lead! It’s amazing where the learning can go when Ss are in the driver’s seat! #tlap
A2: I recognize that one needs to evolve and adapt each and every year as you have a new class enter your world. This past summer I learned all about Project Based Learning and how to better be innovative in the classroom. #tlap
Q2:
I’ve only been teaching drama for 5 yrs, but my teaching has changed. It’s always been fun & active for all. It has turned from workshopping acting skills to creating space for Ss to create and grow as individuals. We still learn skills, but w/ focus on relationships. #tlap
A2- LISTEN to them. What are they interested in? What will get them excited about learning? You evolve with your students when you figure out what makes them excited to be in class. It may look different every year. #tlap
This mindset shift away from "over-protection our practice" is HUGE. Every classroom SHOULD look different based on its learners, and every educator should be comfortable with that. #tlap
A2: I'm letting go of what people think when they walk into my room. If I am truly committed to giving each kid what they need--it will look different than compliance (this is my big growth and planning spot right now) #tlap
A2: There was always a focus on data and results. To be successful, it is about relationships. Culture first, culture next, culture always. #tlap#leadlap@burgessdave
I had a 1st grader come to group down and upset, through our relationship he was happy, smiling, giggling and working within 10 minutes. Relationships are everything! #tlap
A2 I’m in my 3rd year teaching- I constantly am adapting my style of teaching. Ex: Building relationships, flexible seating, and adding technology into the classroom #flipgrid#powtoon#tlap
A2: Was collaborating with my teachers both in person & through a @Google Hangout at the same time. Isolation is choice these days. Amazing the optiosn we have to learn and interact with other educators #LCInnovation#tlap
A2: Having moved from class teacher, to district leader, and back to classroom teacher in my 28th year, my practice has become much more student needs focused and about building community. #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2 I’ve found that I teach the same content sometimes 3 different ways to accommodate my three very different classes’ needs of 3rd graders. Also LOVE #starbucksmyassroom . ——Heather 3rd ELA fm AL #Tlap

A2. I've been trying to allow personal tech in the classroom - can't avoid it. However, I believe some #theatreed work needs to be done on paper. Yet, I see Ss taking pics of script & using that in rehearsal. Need to find ways to meet that need for Ss. #tlap
A3: Open space, #STEAM stations, @Flipgrid Recording studio, Ss talking because they are engaged and creating and break beyond the walls and outside for projects and lessons when we can. #tlap
A2: Having the confidence to switch things up from 'traditional' to more flexible, hands-on, relaxed when all around me wasn't that way; I had a new passion for teaching & Ss had a greater voice #tlap#lotsofoutsidetime
A2 I’ve always strived to be better. Though reading and self development I’ve tried to become a facilitator of learning and less of the sage on the stage. Showing Ss to become masters of their learning has lead to engagement and empowerment #TLAP
My ideal classroom is all about positivity. I love interacting between myself and students. As a dance teacher, I tend to be vocal and clap to those who have done their best, even if it was not perfect. That is what I want with my class. #tlap
#tlap A2: In 19 years, I've evolved from being the teacher of content and the giver of tests to the asker of questions and giver of opportunities and feedback, the supporter of students. Not because the world evolved, but because I've learned better what my job actually is.

A2- Coaching and counseling more now than ever. Not that it’s a bad thing, I think coaching works. Noticed though that the bulk of my student conversations are coaching goals, next steps, touch choices.
#tlap
A2: I also shifted the way I offer T support for tech integration lessons. It’s a truly collaborative process from planning activities to implementation - a win-win for everyone! #tlap
As a future art T, I was so worried about how art and tech could be combined in multiple ways.. BUT I have been studying and learning many apps, websites, and types of art that I can combine both to interest Ss have in tech and their work in the art room! #tlap
A2: I have evolved to better understanding and using the power of personal and professional relationships at school. It has been a challenge but one that is working well. #tlap
A2; My practice as a writing teacher has been transformed with the collaborative platforms of GAFE, @Flipgrid, and @Padlet. Feedback is REAL and actionable. So many more formative assessment opportunities and teachable moments. I LOVE TEACHING WRITING AGAIN! #2ndaryELA. #tlap
I’ve grown to see teaching and learning to be nothing like ordering a pizza 🍕. It’s an organic experience in which the most important role of the educator is to create the optimal environment for growth and protential. #GoBlue#Martians4Life#TLAP
A2) I've had to become comfortable being uncomfortable in the #makerspace. Circuitry, robotics, and coding do not come naturally to me. I am in awe of how our Ts and Ss dive in! I keep pushing myself to tinker fearlessly. I want to be able to support others. #tlap#LCInnovation
A2: Exploratory learning is a must in my classroom. Not only do Ss learn, they teach others, and I learn from them as well. I am a facilitator, but the learning is much more their own rather than transferring my knowledge to them. #tlap
A3) A classroom where students are driving THEIR own learning. Either through self-directed online lessons, collaboration, reading or making connections (relationally and real-world). It’s not quite and it’s very messy #tlap
A3- bright and colorful. Every resource needed at my finger tip. Inviting for students. A place that’s truly designed for learning. A place where all kids want to be there. Lots of music! #tlap
A2 slowing down more. Allowing time to reflect & process learning. Creative minds need time to make connections. I focus more on process to yield a better product. #tlap
A3 - One-on-one. Working with a single student to fulfill their desires and potential to the maximum point possible. I cannot have this kind of classroom fully, but I do a lot of coaching and working with singular students as we work through the year. That is the ideal. #tlap
A3: "Learning is a must. Kindness is key. Innovation -- you bet. Technology to enhance instruction. Community is essential. Flexibility in our schedule -- for SURE! #tlaphttps://t.co/rn4kg8kPd2
A3: I would want my classroom to be as focused on the Ss as possible. They are the reason I am there. Learning should be reflective and personal. Also the classroom should be cohesive to promote fluid learning. #tlap
When observing a class, I love seeing Ts light up when they realize they need to shift gears and then watch the reaction of their Ss so appreciative of their desire to be responsive! #TLAP#GoWithTheFlow
A2: I used to think we needed to standardize education more to bring us on the same page as a country and be competitive - now I think we need to ensure we are reaching each learner where they are to really make our students prepared to be the best person #TLAP
A2. Well, I’ve done a 360 - got rid of homework, morning work, behavior charts, spelling tests, - Now have #flexibleseating kids have #choice and #voice are empowered & #innovators#stem@genoushour globally connected but 1 thing hasn’t changed- ALL my LOVE 4 my kiddos❤️ #tlap
A3 flexible seating with lots of different learning areas, active collaboration and questions feedback everywhere, kindness the center of all we do and a family atmosphere full of supportive people #TLAP
A2 When I began as a hotpry teacher I was primarily lecture based and now I am a gamified teaher that has embraced a blended learning philosophy. I blog at https://t.co/bHswekkQ3Q#tlap
A3 My ideal classroom is one that puts kids first. Flexible seating, noise, engaged and energized students, movement, available tech, global collaborations, excitement, can't distinguish Teacher from Students. A class that represent kids & relationships. #tlap#LCInnovation
A3 My ideal classroom would have kids working wherever they are comfortable, lots of colloboration, tons of Lego, Bloxels, devices, books, and maker spaces #tlap
A3: My ideal classroom sounds, feels & looks very similar to what I have, though would expand it to include the hallways being more like what I have. Comfortable/easy to move furniture, portable tech, Ss collaborating & a teacher willing to flatten the walls. #tlap#LCInnovation
A3: this year I was gifted moveable tables and chairs to make groupings—yay! My kiddos problem solve in their teams. I circulate to answer ?s, redirect, and cheer. Kids are engaged and excited AND they can tell you what we’re doing and why. #tlap
A3: ideal classroom = comfortable. Students engaging in conversation. Sounds weird, but “honeys in the air” (liked hunched over the task at hand. Bursts of excitement that “oh!! I got it!” #tlap
Q3: In a 42 min periods: 3/4 diff activities that build on one another w/ different modes of learning; kids processing through individual, pair and group assignments; work bell to bell; probably loud to neighbors 🤗. #tlap
A3 lots of space, student work on walls, access to devices and resources for hands on activities for Ss to create, flexible seating options would love to get rid of big sled desks #tlap
A2 I’ve evolved from a need for control—
I ❤️allowing those I lead to truly have a voice in the learning.
It doesn’t matter if we are exploring new content, purchasing some high$ item or deciding where to host a PD, our diverse opinions always produce a stellar consensus. #tlap
A2. This year I've evolved into more of a facilator of experiences, a coach, and an experimental scientist in the classroom to identify learning desires and needs. This allowed me to create more relevant tasks and inclusive culture, using resources and tech that engage Ss. #tlap
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A2: It doesn’t matter if you’re in the front, middle, or the caboose. Together we must be able to support one another to soar together. Our perspectives shouldn’t divide us, but rather inspire us. #tlap
A2: I have grown from delivering lessons where everyone is clumped in a group on the rug listening to me (blah, blah, blah) to a Social Stations scenario during which they choose where to sit, whom to learn with, and what skills to work on. #transformation#tlap
A3. Steam stations, Ss working together sharing ideas, collaborating, helping each other, moving about the room where they feel comfortable working. #tlap
A2: my whole job changed 2yrs ago when I took on Tech Integration - and at an elementary (I was a 7/8 T). EVERYTHING changed! I became support for the Ts.
#tlap
#TLAP#LCInnovation A3 For us, the move to engage our students with primary sources experts, when possible. These experts share their stories and it engages the students and makes history relevant. Here are some of our speakers we have had over the years.
A3 My classroom now. Relationships w Ss are a priority, flexibility in learning anything that interests me/Ss ie @Flipgrid or @FrontRow or @edupuzzle#tlap
A3 students making their learning visible, groups and partners scattered around the room working together and excited, demonstrating GRIT, and social grace #tlap
A3: students are collaboratively working in their defined comfortable space, it is loud due to authentic conversations, and Ss are comfortable/have built relationships so that they are able to open up to each other. #tlap
A3: I would love if when a student asked a question it would be directed at the class, not me and without prompting a student would engage and a discussion would begin #tlap
A2b: as a schl psy, my population has changed dramatically in recent years. We all have to have greater understanding of the Maslow needs before we can get to the Bloom’s needs. #tlap
Love the Elem Flex seating but I'm seeing great results in my HS class! They say it feels like a restaurant, Starbucks, and it's been an inspiring change! #kidsdeserveit
A3: I look for continuous dialogue between students and teachers. I see technology available, I see examples of students work all over, I see smiles, laughter, curiosity and a desire for mutual learning never stopping. #tlap#lcinnovation
A3: Collaboration stations but also a place for our introverts, creativity, personalized learning, flexible thinking, whiteboard tables/walls, 1:1, something for everyone. #tlap
A3 Kids engaged in academic discourse, with information at the finger tips in the form of personalized technology, sharing their thinking, challenging others, and solving deep meaningful problems. #tlap
A3: Ideally students have multiple ways to demonstrate their understanding. An opportunity to collaborate with each other and publish their thoughts to an authentic audience. Then as an added bonus access to #edtech to build their content+ skills #LCInnovation#tlap
A3: My ideal classroom is now the Innovation Lab! It’s filled with Ss conversations, movement, lots of choice and opportunities to ask questions, discover, create and share! #tlap
My ideal classroom has flexible seating, technology available, student choice, student empowerment, and student engagement. Students are at the center and driving their learning #tlap
A3 kind of a loaded Q. Ive had quiet groups, loud groups, Indy groups, collolaborative groups, artistic groups, reader groups. They tended to have similar types with different ratios. #tlap
A3: Student voice, choice, inquiry. Students discussing their learning. Flexible seating options. Flexible technology options for students to take advantage of #tlap
Teaching in a gym is pretty sweet. However, I would add 4 more basketball hoops and a walled outside area built in soccer/hockey goals. A ropes course that hangs from the ceiling. and a full rock wall with ropes. #bromwellbears
A3: Collaboration stations but also a place for our introverts, creativity, personalized learning, flexible thinking, whiteboard tables/walls, 1:1, something for everyone. #tlap
In KS the average age of technicians especially in hvac is 59. They can’t fill those jobs fast enough. These are well paid tech jobs that will offer lots of technical training. But tech schools seem to have a negative connotation. #TLAP
A3 My ideal classroom has flexible seating, technology available, student choice, student empowerment, and student engagement. Students are at the center and driving their learning #tlap
A2 There is critical shift required. From thinking “This is my program/course and these students need to fit into it.” to saying “These are my students and my program/course needs to fit them.”
#tlap#LCInnovation
A3:
My ideal class would look like the stereotypical drama class scene—like in HS Musical. Some Ss would be running lines, creating sets, props, costumes, doing research, making publicity posters—working together. I’d be in a flowy dress w a beautiful scarf coaching groups. #tlap
A3: more.... makerspaces, Legos, markers, writing on walls, talking, engagement, creativity everywhere (people often tell me my class walls are too much). #tlap
A1: My ideal classroom would be clean, have lots of space, lots of natural light and natural materials. Hopefully this would help my students and me feel calm and refreshed! #BromwellBears
A3: The walls are kid art (very few anchor charts), dance parties (freeze dance is a favorite morning meeting "game"), stories, questions, building, problem solving, hugs, art, laughter, friendship, new ideas #tlap
A3: My classroom is loud, but focused. Ss are leading the discussion and the thinking. My favorite part of the day is watching Ss get excited during a discussion and coming out of their seats to share with others. #tlap
A3: My ideal classroom is my Ss ideal classroom! They get to create that room, help plan our learning, they’re empowered, kind, collaborative & fully engaged & excited about learning!#tlap
This is also my answer to question 3. It’s amazing to see Ss in this room using technology, collaborating, and they are always engaged! I could stay in this room all day! #tlap
A1: My dream classroom would incorporate more learning through play as well as hands on experiences! It would create more engagement through all lessons. #bromwellbears
A3 ideal classroom looks like an artists studio with many tools for many voices. It feels like a collective creative energy flowing through every child & teacher. It sounds like joy, laughter, & a buzz of excitement. An ideal classroom should be filled w/wonder curiosity #tlap
A3: The ideal classroom can happen anywhere. My school lost power and we moved to the high school for two days. We learned anywhere and everywhere because my teachers built relationships focused on trust, growth and learning! Read about it here! https://t.co/FvNSwx5MVt#tlap
A3: My ideal classroom is all about the lives of students and incorporating who they are, and who they are becoming, into the fabric of all that we do together each day...far more than ‘bricks and mortar’. #tlap
A3: My ideal classroom looks inviting with flexible learning places that meet S needs! It sounds like Ss engaged in conversations, music playing & laugher! It feels like HOME! You walk in & know it’s a place that Ss want to be!! #tlap
A3b: to build the relationships I always give up the first 20 min I see a group of Ss each week to share about our weekends. I recoup that time by not having nearly as many classroom management issues to deal with. We create a family in our room. #tlap
In my classroom:
1. I am a GUIDE on the RIDE.
2. The noise level is LOUDER.
3. Students work COLLABORATIVELY.
4. Learners are EMPOWERED.
5. Technology is used to CREATE.
6. Diversity is EMBRACED.
#tlaphttps://t.co/dgVwIKz35p
Every year the needs of the students changes. We never know from year to year what the kindergartners will come to us knowing. I find myself resetting every year and starting the year by focusing on the needs of the new group of students. #tlap#masdtlap
A3: Walls down and minds open... empowerment that fuels engagement at all levels! No predetermined grade level rather a learning level that is spotlighted by personal passion with no ending! #tlap
Q3: My classroom would be busy with movement, collaboration, conversation, creativity, serious coffee-shop vibes, constant exploration and questioning...and students controlling how they will show their learning! Controlled chaos?! #tlap
A3: My ideal classroom is not just mine, but our classroom looks like we (Ss and T) "live" in it. Organized chaos to enable curiosity. Sometimes music-of all kinds. Feeling of a safe place where Ss to do not have to be afraid of creativity. And so many kinds art supplies! #tlap
A3: Our ideal classroom is noisy and exciting, collaborating and connecting, listening and loving, encouraging and empathetic. We LOVE our Leadership Learning space. #tlap
A4: I've said it many times, "stop comparing myself to others". Some teachers have years of experience and some have that right "sync" with some classes. You aren't going to get it 100% every class. #tlap
A3: My ideal classroom looks like a place that encourages flexible & student centered learning. You would hear students working collaboratively to problem solve. You would feel welcome and part of an active learning community where everyone matters. #tlap
A3: Walls down and minds open... empowerment that fuels engagement at all levels! No predetermined grade level rather a learning level that is spotlighted by personal passion with no ending! #tlap
A3. My ideal classroom is always changing because it will look like, sound like, and feel like what the Ss want and need. Each class period is very different and flexibility and feedback determines lighting, noise level, seating, etc. #tlap
A4: I've been on a mission to kill worksheets as much as possible in the last few months (and if I use one, I need it to serve multiple purposes) #tlap
#tlap#lcinnovation A2 Why wouldn’t an adult ed space look like a K-12? Both should be real to their Ss: objectives/standards based, learner centered & authentic assessment. Kids get feedback, adults performance support.
A3b) Random thought: I’d love to turn my all of my walls into whiteboard, so students can write down thoughts while collaborating/working independently/ show off their creativity. #tlap#LCInnovation
My ideal classroom would be open, lots of natural light, with space for kids to move and work where they need, comfortable space to sit, lay, stretch out with music to support the learning at the time. #tlap
I truly feel that the culture of the school would improve. The data would in turn improve because the students would feel like a large part of the community. #tlap#masdtlap
✨A1:/A2: Teaching has evolved into facilitating. Student's should be constructing their learning through choice, collaboration, critical thinking, EdTech, etc. #TLAP#LCInnovation, #EduGIFs✨
A4: In order to move forward, it's important to not work alone in a silo. There are so many ways to connect, collaborate, consult! I am grateful every day for an evolving & encouraging #PLN! We are truly #StrongerTogether! #TLAP
A4: Would love to stop giving traditional tests and replacing them all with PBAs. Thankfully, Virginia is heading in that direction for my content area! I feel like I have gained a better understanding of my Ss through PBAs than through most MC tests. #tlap
A2: Some of the students I work with have behavioral concerns. I’ve had to shift from my (privileged, easy, greatest parents ever) idea of kids’ worlds to an understanding that horrible things do happen and those experiences have to be taken into account! #tlap
A4 - There are the standard answers (time, money, etc), but my reality is that I am my own limit. I have to be focused on being a better me and teacher then the rest will follow. Be a life-long learner. Ask questions. Learn for myself. #tlap
A4 less is more. Ss need more time to apply their learning in real world context. Year after years ts teach a lot of same content because Ss haven’t learned it. There is so much to cover that ts don’t have time to allow for deep understanding #TLAP
A4 I need to be more deliberate with having Ss be reflective of their own learning. Need to have them thinking about their own thinking more. Gotta get more META!!! #tlap
✨A2:/A3: Teaching has evolved into facilitating. Student's should be constructing their learning through choice, collaboration, critical thinking, EdTech, etc. #TLAP#LCInnovation, #EduGIFs✨
A4: Teaching a mile wide and an inch deep. Testing to get data and then never using it to drive instruction. Having PD that is one and done. #tlap#LCinnovation
A4) Stop expecting things to be great the first go around. Although something may not go as plan doesn’t mean it’s a complete failure or perfect solution. Always allow for reflection: student and teacher reflection #LCInnovation#tlap
A4: I need to stop being so concerned about negativity and what other people think and focus on what my students need...staying positive the whole time. #TLAP
Sure! I no longer go into classroom to do a “tech lesson,” it’s all about finding the best way to teach the content so Ss are empowered to own their own learning! Lots of convos w/T and risk-taking to create experiences that are more meaningful! #tlap
A4: Stop standardized testing. Let’s replace it with frequent, meaningful formative assessment for students. Assessment is necessary, but not as states currently design it #tlap
Hi all. Chris. Ed-tech Instructional coach. WA. Muti-multi tasking. Spring break in Santa Fe, NM and watching the NCAA bball championship. So. Admittedly, not super focused on this chat but gonna lurk a bit #TLAP
My ideal classroom is warm and inviting with many different areas for the students to find comfort in learning and to allow their creativity to flow. It is a place where the students can share their thoughts freely and openly and everyone listens to each other. #tlap#masdtlap
A4: I am currently in the process of changing the way grading takes place and moving and referencing "practice" instead. It has saved me tons of time and student engagement and buy in has never been higher... #tlap
A4: Full disclosure...I need to hold back on answering questions & allow for more independent discovery. It’s my biggest teacher faux-pas. There’s magic in not solving every problem for students. Must...show...restraint! #tlap
A4: We could stop doing so much review & re-teaching by focusing on designing powerful learning experiences the FIRST time. Also...could stop losing WEEKS of school to testing. And let's #DitchHW, too! #tlap
A4: Stop letting small things ruin my day. There are times when the negativity influences how I lead, but when put in perspective, it’s just a tiny blip on the radar. I have to stay focused on the positive! “Don’t let anyone ruin your day! #tlap
A4 If we know what skills are most important or critical for students to learn, why assessment anything else? Streamline the testing. Weighing the pig more doesn't make it gain weight. #tlap
A4) less worksheets, less busy work, encourage my teachers to do one less worksheet and replace with one hands on, innovative, creative learning task #TLAP
A4: To innovate with subtraction, I will stop thinking S learning has to rely on me for everything. I will continue to find ways to ditch practices that restrict S empowerment & hand the keys to our learning bus over to them. Ss can self asses & self direct. #tlap#LCInnovation
This semester I gave myself permission to NOT grade everything the kids write and to have them write more. Just the simple acts of introducing multiple media and topics and telling the kids I will read it all but won’t judge it all has made them better writers. #tlap#HS#ELA
A4: Stop looking at failure as a bad thing. To be a true innovator you have to be willing to take risks and embrace failure. Through failure comes learning, through learning comes growth. We have to stop looking at failure as a number and look at it as an opportunity. #tlap
A5: Less talking and more observing! You learn a lot from watching, listening, slowing down. Those observed actions spark new ideas moving forward #tlap#thiswillbetough#ilovetalking
A4: Empowering other to make decisions more and then act. Investing time in building skills in others rather than just solving an issue for them. #LCInnovation#tlap
A4: I could stop obsessing over things I can’t control - like our negative factor in our school financing - and instead add how I can protect our school from the negative effects #TLAP
#TLAP A4: An enthusiastic teacher Plus... a place for social students to collaborate, areas for introverted/sensory-stimulated S's to feel safe and comfy, and...of course...books!!!!! (Audiobooks included!)
A4: Teachers need to stop grading for completion. It conditions students for a false reality and poorly prepares students for the real world. Let students invest in revisions and reassessments instead #tlap#LCInnovation
#tlap I teach 3 3rd grade ELA classes & agree that each class can be so different from one to the next- even with teaching the same material. Have to change things and procedures to fit different needs and personalities.
A3. My ideal classroom is always changing because it will look like, sound like, and feel like what the Ss want and need. Each class period is very different and flexibility and feedback determines lighting, noise level, seating, etc. #tlap
A4: Ditched tests and quizzes a while back. Rote memorization does not represent the kind of thinking and learning I want rewarded in my classroom. #tlap
A4: I must take away the fear from Ps and Ss so that they can open their minds to leveled up learning! I must continue to remove the workbooks and in place provide opportunities to design-create-take risks that cannot be provided w/ pencil/paper #tlap
A4: I think sometimes I'm so eager to learn and introduce new things with my kids but I really need to pause and allow them to master what we are working on currently. #TLAP#LCInnovation
A4: We have incorporated No Worksheet Wednesday and this move has lead me to do the same on other days as well. True learning does not happen on paper. True learning happens through experiences. #tlap
A4 I can let go of my fear and doubt and perfectionism. I sometimes have a vision and I need to let it go and simply let students take the lead, create and make magic. I believe in them, so I will just trust them and give control. #tlap#LCInnovation
A3. My ideal classroom would be my own room. (Currently floating). A "traditional" classroom repurposed for #theatreed would allow for variety of work & emphasize that it is indeed a "real class". #tlap
A3: The ideal classroom is a place of inspiration. There’s personal challenges to reach. There’s time for reflection and time to build a community. It sounds anywhere from serene to comical to passionate. #tlap
A4: It would be great for Ts to model moving forward without FEAR. We ask our Ss to trust us, we should trust ourselves in the AMAZING opportunities that are out there! #tlap
A4 I've decided to stop listening to negative and judgemental voices on social media (yeah, I get the irony). But we have too much to do to deal with anything but those that lift each other up... #tlap
A4 eliminating is not my strong suit... but I’m trying to be very mindful of where I spend my energy and if it leads to the impact I wanted. If not, time to re-evaluate #tlap
A3: As an alternative school T, significant deficits are the norm. Higher order skills and tasks need to be built in with many scaffolds and supports, plus being a safe place to make mistakes is a must! My kids are worth that effort and the same chances as every other Ss! #tlap
What if we could teach all the things the students WANT to learn about. What if we let the teachable moments carry our lessons. That would be amazing. #tlap#masdtlap
✨STOP TEACHING FROM THE EDGE AND JUMP IN!
"I can walk by the open door of a classroom and tell you after a couple of minutes whether the teacher is a lifeguard or a swimmer."
-@burgessdave#TLAP#LCInnovation, #EduGIFs✨
Q4: I need to stop worrying about TIME. We all need to slow down. Quality classroom experiences cannot be rushed, and student mastery is something that takes time. I fall victim to the "must be finished in one week" or "only 2 weeks in unit" trap. It doesn't work! #tlap
A3 We need to be curious about what classrooms look, sound and feel like to the students as well. Chances are they perceive them differently.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A3 my ideal classroom is a warm, friendly environment with flexible seating, quiet places for learning, and places for collaboration. Plenty of books to peak interest and make space to explore their passions #TLAP
Q4: I need to stop being negative about myself. I am body-conscious, self-conscious, everything. I think this will help me become a smarter, yet positive person for myself. #tlap
A4 I'm not sure what I would subtract? I have subtracted pretty much all worksheets to be replaced with more interesting responses and drastically changed assessments. #tlap
A4: We could stop doing so much review & re-teaching by focusing on designing powerful learning experiences the FIRST time. Also...could stop losing WEEKS of school to testing. And let's #DitchHW, too! #tlap
A4: Continuing to work on not “coming to the rescue” with solutions so quickly for my 1st graders!! It’s about having my Ss struggle a little & find their own way in the learning process!! #tlap
A4: less of everything. This year I cut out a lot of things (certain novels, projects, etc.) and spent more time appreciating the moment and diving deeper into everything. I haven’t regretted a single thing I’ve cut out. #tlap
A4:
I’d subtractive notion that my instructional time is not important bc I teach an arts/exploratory class. I’d subtract the directive to make my Ss read and respond to articles instead of scripts—our disciplinary literacy—to prepare for state testing. #tlap
A4: If we could subtract some of the continuous assessments (benchmarks, MAP testing, unit tests, etc) and find a better way to evaluate growth I think it'd reduce stress and make for a more engaging school experience. #tlap
A4: I let go of FEAR! I realized that fear was holding me back from trying so many things... in order to innovate, you just have to jump in and give it a go! I've also minimized perfectionism by giving more grace to myself and others. #tlap
A.2 (jumping in late) 😁 Thanks to my PLN on twitter I've given my Ss more choice in assignments, gotten rid of HW and spelling tests this year. 👏 #tlap
Solids are so prevalent in education. At all levels. I think a sense of ownership of all students. I@also@think expectations laid out by the building leader #tlap
A3: STARBUCKS! I want to teach in a cafe environment w tables that hum w activity & walls where Ss gather to think/sketch/write.The vibe is casual but purposeful; everyone WANTS to be there. I have actually considered asking Starbucks if they wld donate tables for my room! #tlap
A5: I like the #observeme movement. Would love to get a pineapple chart at my school. The PE department and I worked together on WW2 where they built a bootcamp to show our 7th graders how "fit" they were to join the GI for the US! #tlap@katiemartinedu@ERobbPrincipal
A4: If we could subtract some of the continuous assessments (benchmarks, MAP testing, unit tests, etc) and find a better way to evaluate growth I think it'd reduce stress and make for a more engaging school experience. #tlap
A5: We started instructional rounds. I encourage teachers to watch one another whenever they want to. Need to break down the artificial barriers that exist and get teachers into each others’ rooms #tlap
A5: sharing ideas through twitter, blogging, @EdTechTiff shares a pineapple chart with our school so we can share ideas and invite others into our room. #tlap
A5 - #edchats are one way to do it. I have been amazed by the community my fellow teachers have on Twitter and how much I have gotten out of it in such a short time. In my school, being unafraid to invite teachers, community, and parents into my classroom. #tlap
A5 share what we do invite others to come observe ask to visit other teachers, pineapple charts are great. Someone posted something about this idea earlier I believe there was a picture #TLAP
#tlap#LCInnovation A5. We use Facebook and Twitter to promote what our teachers are doing in the classroom. Great opportunity for all teachers and our community to see inside our walls. Ts do a great job of sending me lessons pictures or invite me into their classroom.
A3: Ideal classroom looks welcoming to all and SS are engaged. Ss are being innovative and the tools needed are there. I would love to have flexible seating with different areas for all purposes! #tlap
A5: Besides the obvious in district instructional walks, Observe Me, and Pineapple Chart, what if we do GHO observe me with proper permission from Parents, so that any T from anywhere can observe another T in action? #tlap#LCInnovation
Oh yes! It’s a balance for sure. The joy lies in finding that sweet spot where Ts start to own their own learning which empowers Ss to do the same! #tlap
A5: it starts with an invitation: what cool stuff are you doing that others could try? Then seek reciprocation. Ask questions, see who’s doing what. Give up 20 minutes of that precious plan time to see a new plan in action! #tlap
As a principal, I would like to lead by example and be in more classrooms not to critique, but to help create powerful learning experiences for kids. I’m not there yet, but it’s definitely a goal! #tlap#LeadLAP
A5: We’ve created a pineapple chart in our school to provide opportunities for teachers to observe their colleagues. We can’t have professional dialogue if we don’t know what each other does. Always will be a fear of judgment by peers, but must lose fear to move forward #tlap
A5. Imagining a recurring "this week in #theatreed" via YouTube channel to share our work. Would welcome some kind of community based around that idea, or a "sister classroom" kind of arrangement. #tlap
A2: learning stations, students leading, more small group instruction and lots of discussions. I’m not a puppet master, they have their own voice! #tlap#LCInnovation
A:2 Every year I change my teaching to fit the needs of my kids, because every year I have a new set of students with new & diverse needs. Our teaching years will never be the same as the previous. We adapt, we evolve, we change. #tlap
A5: we have instructional rounds in our building which helps with this, but I'd love to know what other Ts are doing more often. I'd love to have a school/ district # to follow where Ts post what their doing and Ts can drop by to see it in action. #tlap
A4: I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve encountered living abroad. I’m happy to announce after four years out of the classroom, I will be stepping back in for the upcoming school year. #tlap
A5) We have continued to expand our shared video reflections with with members of the staff. Sharing practice creates transparency and gives others a peak into your practice. #tlap
A5) I LOVE this question! This was my WHAT IF last year. Each month I challenge teachers to different things and so many are jumping on and doing 15 minute observations on their OWN!!! They are loving it! Whoop whoop...all it cost me was a 10$ Amazon cars to raffle!#TLAP
A5: That's really difficult for a lot of teachers. Most feel like they are being judged. It's so important for us to build a community of trust and respect among one another. My principal implemented "Learning Walks" this year and is been great!#tlap#LCInnovation
A5: Digging something a few of my teachers are doing. Letting their students run a twitter account for their classroom. Awesome insight from the Ss perspective. Here is are the hashtags #byarsmeetsworld & #B113BrainyYaks & #sandovalstudent Check them out! #tlap#LCInnovation
A5: We can make learning public by sharing on social media. I try to share a few activities going on in my classroom every week. I have gained amazing ideas from seeing learning happening in other Ts classrooms on Twitter. We are our best resource! #tlap
A5 Invite others to come & watch & learn with you. Collaborate in your school and globally. Have some live video feeds from your class. Invite parents and the community in the classroom. Keep your door always open. Don't be afraid. Be open to possibilities. #tlap#LCInnovation
A5: We’ve created a pineapple chart in our school to provide opportunities for teachers to observe their colleagues. We can’t have professional dialogue if we don’t know what each other does. Always will be a fear of judgment by peers, but must lose fear to move forward #tlap
A5: Don't be afraid to "sell our own merch". Share more about what we are doing, creating, building, designing. Even if we don't get the outcome that we are hoping for when we tell others, we need to keep sharing the good that we are seeing. #tlap
Q5: I think we should provide fieldwork for these students. My university does fieldwork to find a real-time, yet real, public work that we are able to do to help everyone. #tlap
Q3: my ideal classroom is student centered! It’s loud but the noise is meaningful (which is pretty typical). And there is enough technology and for the students to be 1:1 #tlap
A5 The principal could take a class for a period so you could observe another class, or you could use your prep time to visit another class in your building #tlap
#tlap It depends upon how failure is treated in the class. If failure is a natural part of the learning process & students are able to continue working to learn, then Yoda is correct. However if in a class, failure is a finalaity, then the picutre on the right rings true.
DELIVERY of instruction must change along with learning spaces!!
Rearrange the desks AND then be sure not to be "The Sage on the Stage," but the GUIDE on the RIDE!!
#tlap
A5: I have implemented #Observeme in my room; however, I haven't had a great deal of success. When someone comes to visit my room, I mention it to them and ask that they would take the time to provide feedback.#TLAP
A4 our ed system tends to focus on speed & data. 2 things that run counter to learning. I’m trying to stay in the moment. I am choosing to slow down & build relationships before all else. Data & speed are devoid of emotion, empathy creativity. We need to feel learning. #tlap
A5: As a support teacher I get to observe all the time now, wish I would have given up a few plan times each year to go see me colleagues. I only did it a couple of times while in my own classroom and each left me inspired. #tlap
A5: use of Swivl and Whetstone for obs/feedback where we can clip videos for others. Pineapple charts, having a schedule allowing for admin to cover classes for Ts to see e/o #TLAP
A5 It is a matter of building that culture in your building.Admin neeed to be non-threatening when entering a classroom. Also, the resource of TIME must be given to Ts. Admin could sub. #TLAP#lcinnovation
A4: I want to subtract praise that's not effective or encouraging a growth mindset in my Ss. I'm not sure how often my praise is weak but I know I can improve. #tlap
A5: PBL can do this as you connect experiences beyond YOU as the goto holder of all learning! Empowerment leads every student to others and in turn we can observe and learn together! Break down the walls and open minds! #blog#skype#tlap#Nan3EDU
A5: I suppose chats like this is one way (though not observation). I'm really lucky that my new principal encourages us to visit other schools to observe. It was a new concept to take a day "off" for observation, but so beneficial! #tlap
A5 It is really just as simple as walk out the door, turn left, go in another classroom. Really, that easy, but you have to rearrange making copies, or grading and just go. It is ALWAYS worth it.
Ask your homeroom where you should go!! #tlap
A5: Share your stories! Throw open those doors and pop those pineapple charts on the wall! Share your blogs, post your pics and show the world all the awesome things YOU do each day! #tlap#bettertogether
Tried to stay awake #tlap, but I am falling asleep at the computer. Gotta go to bed before I start drooling on the keyboard. Thanks for the great chat @katiemartinedu . Will check out the 2nd half tomorrow. Good night.
Q5: Social media is a stepping stone to transparency, but I would love to see parents learning more beside students or sharing in the experiences Ss offer. I teach middle school so this might strike terror in them, but it would literally bring the community into the school! #tlap
A5: We used a @GooseChaseEDU to challenge teachers to get outside of the box and their 4 walls, including observing others on different grade levels. It was the small step needed to help Ts realize how easy it is to get out and see the treasure in their very own building! #tlap
A5:
We started a pineapple chart last year. It has kind of run out of steam, but we can re-energize it. Our admin has started having us do learning walks as part of team learning. That has opened us all up. #tlap
A5. I leave my door propped open to invite others in and I find that one of the best compliments is to tell other teachers I want to come observe them. Tech is another great way to celebrate learning with photos or videos. @Flipgrid is a great way to share and reflect. #tlap
A5: Not be afraid to know that learning is falling down, getting back again. Appreciating the fact that a 2nd set of eyes is sometimes the best kind of learning you will get as a teacher and that peers are one of your pillars of support. #tlap#LCinnovation
A5: I would love to incorporate @robertkaplinsky#ObserveMe in my room next year. Also by using social media to share my classroom, I can ask for ideas to help improve
#tlap
Q5: From being a part of your colleges' classroom twitter groups to creating schedules that allow teachers to experience other learning types can make learning public. #tlap
A5: As elem principal, I find that the more I share amazing things Ts are doing, the more walls break down. Ts ask each other about teaching and learning and ask to watch each other teach. #TLAP
A5 as a teacher leader I’ve been trying to start a pineapple chart at my school. We learn from seeing and doing and this allows both to happen. It will also foster collaboration among different grades or departments https://t.co/M6gqAqRmhm#TLAP
A5: We have to be completely open to feedback and sharing of great ideas. This sharing should be among classrooms, schools, districts. If something’s working, let’s replicate it. #TLAP
A5: Changing our notion of professional learning and ensuring that is a process and making learning public is part how we support the desired shifts in our schools and classrooms. #TLAP
A5: Twitter has definitely done this. I had a goal of observing 1 teacher every other week. I have fallen a little short, but still helpful. BRB goin to email some teachers... #tlap
A5: To support observing, keep classroom doors open, walk in and observe, talk with students, listen and learn. We spend to much time in own grade we need to see what others are doing, because it is great work. #tlap
A5: open door should not be evaluative - should be rooted in feedback and support. P’s can ask T’s to join them on walks and then leave a form with feedback or appreciation for observed teacher. Keep it simple. #tlap
A5: I love our PLC we have. My 3rd grade teacher team gets together to plan, reflect, help, inspire and a million more verbs. Sharing with them makes me happy and it’s good for all of our kiddos. #tlap#masdtlap
A6:
Build a culture based in emotional safety. Then, allow ample opportunities for productive struggle. The artisan teacher knows exactly when to intervene... and more specifically... how to intervene. #tlap
A2: I now recognize more than ever the power of peer collaboration and learning among my Ss; therefore, I share power in the classroom and promote student leadership. #tlap#LCInnovation
☠️HELP STUDENTS FIND THEIR CREW!☠️
✨What if we helped students build a crew to support & challenge them in the pursuit of their passions? Community members/professionals, global experts, other students w/ similar interests, etc. @burgessdave#TLAP#LCInnovation, #EduGIFs✨
A6: Teach Ss to think. The memorization/recall movement is hard to push past, but get Ss knowing that w/you they have to think, and then help them see they CAN think. THEN Ss start looking for better questions, not just answers. #tlap#LCInnovation
A5. I agree with a lot of what was said earlier. It is really important to talk as colleagues and share cool ideas with each other. I also think it's the approach - the purpose of opening doors is so we can give students the best education we can. #tlap
A5: Invite other teachers in, visit other class, collaborate with each other. Build relationships with each other to create those positive learning experiences for our kids! #tlap
A4: Since 1:1 technology is so new to my school I’m having a hard time innovating my instruction to the technology. I need to find more interactive technology resources and less that are similar to the old pencil and paper responses I’ve used before. #tlap
A4: Full disclosure...I need to hold back on answering questions & allow for more independent discovery. It’s my biggest teacher faux-pas. There’s magic in not solving every problem for students. Must...show...restraint! #tlap
A5 Share, share, share!!! And not just you, but your students, too! We need to make all of our learning visible while sharing our ups and downs! Your voice matters, it is powerful, and we NEED to hear it! #tlap@burgessdave
A2-adjusting professional learning experiences to best need the intersection of teacher and student need. Also increasing the guide on the side role over the sage on the stage. #tlap#LCInnovation
Q2:
In a constantly changing world, the role of the educator will continually need to evolve. Share an example of how your practice has evolved to meet the needs of learners you serve.
#tlap#LCInnovation
A6 - Leading by example. If I have a question, I show the students that question and model how to find the answer. If I want to learn something I try to include it in my classes as well. If students are shown a good model for learning then they can better emulate it. #tlap
A5 Coaching colleagues is a non-negotiable at our school. We build trust among our faculty and expect to live and learn from each other. Our faculty meetings start out with sharing quick observations and questions. It's a priority. #tlap#LCInnovation
A6. Giving Ss ample time to reflect upon information, so that they can derive questions. Teaching them to ask open-ended questions which require more information in gathering respomses for answers. #tlap
It has been amazing! We did a "March Madness" challenge with many PD and collaboration related challenges. The teachers have been completely pumped up (and growing of course) as a result! #tlap
A5 Twitter, overtly sharing your learning/lesson reflections via blogs and vlogs, #GlobalCollaborations, pineapple charts (a few of our principals do this), teacher-led staff development, my fave—>student-led PD for Ts. Did this today. 4th Grader leading Ts❤️
#tlap
A3: Magical Learning that is filled with joy, passion, team work, enthusiasm, and laughter....and it smells delicious! This was what was on the menu today...💫
#tlap
A6: Start with the wonder! Cultivate curiosity and ponder the possibilities as you model for Ss how to do the same! Also, admit that you don't know all the answers - this will spark a desire to solve questions before you can tell them yourself! #tlap
A6: Establish a relationship first. What do you have in common? What makes them light up? Connect beyond the classroom to make everyone feel like an individual but also part of something bigger than themselves #tlap
A5: Observing other teachers is so powerful! We arrange a day for all new teachers to observe a # of teachers, from a variety of departments. It is one of their fav days! The challenge is the logisitics of letting veterans observe more. Pineapple charts are one way. #tlap
A6: When I am story-telling I provide them just enough detail to spark curiosity and during our activities rather than giving them an MC worksheet, I design tasks that allow for them to apply knowledge and then to keep the curiosity going! #tlap
A6: Team building for cohesive groupings make it safe for Ss take chances. Providing resources. Refusing to give them the answers. Giving them the time and encouragement they need. Rephrasing, reteaching. #tlap
A6: When Ss feel that they belong in our classrooms, when they feel safe & have their basic needs met, curiosity can be cultivated & bravery ignited. Again, it all starts with trust & relationship! #TLAP
Q6: Learning comes when people(Ss and Ts) are at disequilibrium and are eager to seek answers! When students find/learn information with their own minds empowers them, satisfies them, encourages them and gives them the want to learn more! #tlap
Q4: I have DUMPED UNITS, favorite lessons, and years of S models. It is LIBERATING to dump files and binders. Now I search twitter and meet w colleagues to plan and design. If you need permission, here it is: LET IT GO! The next chapter is awesome! #tlap
A6: It starts with embracing failure and the idea of failing forward. IMO we are to focused on results and less on the process. If we flip that and trust the process of inquiry and learning, the results take care of themselves. #tlap
A6 Iearned a great technique from a Fred Jones book. Help them get started on the next step....but then walk away. It was a chapter about "helpless handraisers" #tlap
A6 Allow students to struggle, to find, to collaborate, to question. Be comfortable with silence. Be a support, keep communication open. Ask more questions, get them to ask questions, rather than giving answers. Use authentic problems. Solve to change, to have impact. #tlap
A6: We've worked a lot on Growth Mindset in our classroom, along with building trust and safety. The Ss learn it is OK to make mistakes and we learn from our mistakes. It is OK to explore new things and ask questions. #TLAP
A6 instead of providing answers for students, I ask them questions to help them reflect and find the answers themselves. I also value relationships so that students feel comfortable to take risks and let their curious minds lead the way. #tlap
A6: In the early stages we need to give them some question streams so that they can learn what is a good questions and what is not. Then they find opportunities to ask these higher level questions throughout the day #tlap
A6: Creating an environment where Ss don’t fear silence for thought, and they expect to work it out- and throw stuff against the wall to see what sticks- NOT just get it right or wrong - is a start #tlap
A6 building a classroom environment where students are willing to take the risk to share their answers and ideas, even if they are “wrong”. Once students feel confident you see a change between teacher driven talks and student driven talks. #tlap
