Welcome to this evening's #BookCampPD chat! I am Meredith Johnson, your moderator.
I am looking forward to "Bouncing Back" and reading your responses to the books we have focused on.
Please introduce yourself and share what book you're currently reading or soon plan to read.
Let's begin our chat with a reminder about goal setting.
By the end of the chat, you will select one idea you want to implement at your school or in your classroom.
Nothing to do yet .... just think about this as others share.
#BookCampPD
Q1. During the last year and a half, we have focused on 33 books! From the books that you read, what activity/ies were you able to implement in you school/classroom? Was it successful or would you like to "tweak" it before trying again? #BookCampPD
Hello #BookCampPD! Elisa, grade 5 T from Calgary, Alberta in Canada. Trying 2 stay warm as our temps dip below 0 degrees Celsius. Colder than usual for this time of the year. I hope that Farmer’s Almanac guy is wrong about this promising to be harshest winter in recent history!
A1: #kidsdeserveit increased understanding/awareness, #tellyourstory emphasized there's much more to everyone's story, #tlap taught me to create experiences, #prodriven reframed how I look at PD, evals (for Ss & for me!) & inspired even more intrinsic PD/learning! #BookCampPD
A1: I have focused on small things from #leadlap and #leadlit that I could use to transition into my first AP position…Showcasing what I am reading..Finding ways to show staff appreciation...I constantly go back to these books for more ideas! #BookCampPD
A1 Looking forward to the responses on this one. I have only just started to join in on these convos, so not sure which books were discussed this year. #BookCampPD
A1: I've been able to implement choice in PD through Tip Jars as I'd hoped from #DBC50Summer's https://t.co/yoyuqPoGjA - it's been pretty cool to see which topic wins for digital learning PD each month. #BookCampPD
A1 So many ideas, #tlap was the first education book I read after a long time, big impact on my teaching, and #launchbook with the Launch cycle, and #Culturize has pushed me to reflect more and do more to build positive culture #bookcamppd

A2: Tough question! I feel like I've made connections w/all of these great reads & have combined them & enjoyed applying them in my work w/my Ss! I'm huge fan of @dbc_inc books, but #BookCampPD has also exposed me to many other wonderful reads/authors! SO grateful!
A1 After reading #4OCF and joining in the book study on Voxer, connecting with so many new people, we are now #4OCFPLN and I learn so much e every day, have gotten many new ideas #bookcamppd
A1: I read It's Like Riding a Bike by @daveschmittou his book gave me more to think about with how my Ss learn in different ways and to imbrase the work they are doing. #bookcamppd
A2 Definitely #tlap because it led me to rethink how I had been teaching, and to push myself more to create diff/authentic learning for Ss, #bookcamppd
Awww - you're too sweet, friend! I am *SO* excited to finish it and share my favorite parts! BTW: We are more alike than I ever imagined! #REALedu#BookSnaps#tlap#LeadLAP#BookCampPD
A1: Let Them Speak reminded me to ALWAYS provide time and s oace for student voice and choice!Lots of options this year and students love it! :-) ♡ #bookcamppd
A2 #socialLEADia is also one that showed me the positives in using social media, how to work with Ss and build their #digcit skills and also give a more authentic way to show learning #bookcamppd
A2 And for other big changes, reading #launchbook and #hackingpbl helped me to understand how to do PBL and gave the right resources for learning more so I could help Ss #bookcamppd
A2: While I feel like I should be pointing out a leadership book, seeing as I just started as an AP, I REALLY loved “The Gift of Failure”. The message is SO strong and SO important and I am very passionate about embracing failures #BookCampPD
A2 Many of these are on my to-read list. How is that possible! I am having trouble fitting in any more books on shelves, my work space, corners, night table, etc. How can there still be so many left to read?? Jajajajaja! #BookCampPD
In Jarod Bormann’s book #ProDriven he shares four steps involved in a personal, professional learning journey. The final step is sharing your learning with others. From which of the 33 books were you able to share with others? #BookCampPD
A2: As a leader, Culturize by @casas_jimmy is a thoughtfully put together book that focuses on the type of environment you can create for teachers, staff, and students. #BookCampPD
A2 But if I had to choose right now, I would say that Being the Change has me thinking about how I help students feel included and include others. I thought I was doing that pretty well. This book taught me I could do better. @SaraKAhmed#BookCampPD
That is another book that I really enjoyed and definitely recommend, and would add on Talk to Me @kimbearden , I could not stop reading either one of those #bookcamppd
A2: Oh goodness #BookCampPD - no way I can pick one! I literally connected in some way with every single book. The one that wrecked me the most was #Culturize. So powerful! https://t.co/zXkX2RlkQW
A3: I recently enjoyed sharing what I had learned from #prodriven ! I was able to guest post about my 2 year (& counting!) Spanish language learning PD adventure on both #bookcamppd and #prodriven blogs/websites! Thank you for those wonderful opportunities! :)
What learning, from one of the books you've read, did you share? Leaders are always sharing in order to increase the knowledge of their team. #BookCampPD
A1 I've been able to implement lots of ideas through the ideas the variety of books. I love connecting with others and seeing what others are doing as well. #bookcamppd
A2: Hands down the book that has impacted me most is The 4 O'clock Faculty by @RACzyz! I joined a voxer book st udy that has become my PLF!#4OCFPLN :-) ♡ #bookcamppd
A3: All of them! I feel like so many of my conversations involve, “I read this in a book recently!”..Now to figure out how to recall which book! 😂 #BookCampPD
A3: I shared my learning through blog posts. You can read my thoughts and implementation plans for each book I've read this summer at https://t.co/lByAl9NCqM. I also talk about it face-to-face with anyone and everyone who will listen (& some who won't listen, HA) #BookCampPD
I love the resources she shares to extend your learning about the book. They are also included on our website beside her book. #BookCampPDhttps://t.co/9CFlAawfNY
A2.2: For Teachers, Shift This by @JoyKirr is an exciting “how to” book in making changes to reach your students in ways that even the most reluctant educator cannot resist. Shouldn’t teaching and learning be fun? Absolutely! #BookCampPD
A3 I cannot share just one, always referring back to or recommending a book, but tend to share through my Blog https://t.co/l6nPKPfiBN and also on Voxer, or by posting on #bookcamppd
A4: I'm thinking I need to take more time/opportunities to share more professional learning/ideas. Also looking to supplement my Spanish language learning by perhaps taking some additional course work! #bookcamppd
A3: Going with Shift This by @JoyKirr. Joy introduced me to Genius Hour/Passion Projects and my PLC has changed our research papers into Passion Research :-) ♡ #bookcamppd
A4: I'm excited to promote a #tlap day in our school this semester. It's going to be awesome - can't wait to see which classes our students choose! #BookCampPD
A4: My next step is to add more of these 33 books to my list! I love that I have only just begun to scratch the surface when it comes to amazing books for educators. #BookCampPD
Take Away Goal Setting Question -
Please share the goal you will implement from all of the marvelous ideas that were shared during this chat.
#BookCampPD
A4: I can't wait to get into the classroom and implement everything that I've learned thus far in college. I am excited to have more time to read the books on the list as well! #bookcampPD
A4 As a learning leader I am always trying to find ways to better support other teachers in their learning journey. That’s a big personal and professional focus for me this year as we have quite a few teachers new or nearly new to teaching. #BookCampPD
Sure! Also follow along with the hashtag #DBCBookBlogs & you can subscribe to the blog as well. I'm so excited about all of the implementations. Here's the sheet I created with my list https://t.co/idgYVEVZ9b#BookCampPD
A4: I want to keep pushing the Passion Project idea and get my students out and about town, or to hiking areas...taking learning to the streets and beyond! :-) ♡ #bookcamppd
A4 want to finish reading through those books, and use some ideas from #socialLEADia , we are working on #digcit activities in my STEAM course, I just took an @iste U course on Dig Cit focused on the book DigitalCitizenship in Action by @DrKMattson#bookcamppd
Please DM me your name and address if you would like a sticker or magnet sent to you. It would be wonderful to have you spread some #BookCampPD professional learning far and wide by displaying it.

This #PLN is 'over the moon' amazing!! You are appreciated!
My goal is to find more intentional and palatable ways to share my learning from professional books with the Ts @ my school without having to organize a full-fledged workshop. #BookCampPD
