Tonight we are discussing "Leading Student-Centered Learning Environments"

-
Q1: What are the characteristics of a student-centered learning environment?

-
A1 Student driven. Where students are engaging in the learning and digging deeper. T is facilitator.

-
A1: Asking more Qs, requiring less answers is significant in learner-centered environment Community really asking What's best 4 Ss?

-
A1b I love SBG and PBL, those classrooms provide great feedback to Ss and allow students to drive lesssons.

-
I saw a great quote that talked about having a question with/no answer is better than an answer with no question.

-
A1: Making decisions based on students, not adults. Using Learner Profiles to drive the T&L process through cycles of inquiry

-

-
Q2: Bill Daggett once said that "school is a place students come to watch their teachers work." How true is this statement today?

-
A2. It is sad but true. We are shifting away but not at a fast enough speed. Edu still steeped in tradition and resistant to change

-
A2: PT 1 First, Bill rocks. Had him speak to our entire district of Ts when I was in Green Bay. Sadly, statement is still relevant.

-
A2: Ts do all the heavy lifting (and talking) and we never get to the Feedback piece when the Ss are in action, creating, thinking

-
So is the whole DST concept. I was just noting the darkness and how b/c of farmers this has not changed with the times

-
Q3: How can we move our schools from teacher-centered to student centered?

-
Agree. We have a hard time seeing change as positive. Some view as not honoring our past.

-
A3. Empowering Ts to step out of the box. Really supporting their efforts. Difficult in high stakes testing era

-
A3b Support with resources and allowing them flex to change to suit needs of individual students

-
A3: lead by example--make knowledge-based decisions around Ss. Challenge one another to do the same. Plan for enduring changes

-
A3: Leaders must gain knowledge around what leadership actions are required to make Ss-centered decisions. Step 1 to transform...

-
Or teach Ts to 1st work WITHIN THE BOX of what is possible in their current system of T&L components

-
For me, in the box is "sage on stage" with my Ts. I want them working away from podium and towards their Ss.

-
I have a book for you and your team of resistors will help Ts to reframe what in the box could mean

-
I did a book study on it this summer. I need to share that with some Ts.

-
Q4: What role can technology play in promoting personalized, student-centered learning environments?

-
A4 Tech provides the vehicle for Ss to explore and drive their learning. GAFE gives the T ability for live feedback and probing Qs.

-
Great image! So stealling and sending to our Tech Dir!

-
A4: Gives Ss opps. to learn from others and Ts ability to focus on skill development rather than strict content.

-
Q5: As leaders, what direct actions can we take tomorrow to build student-centered learning environments in our schools?

-
Hello, my name is Brandi Pace, I am currently a senior at SNHU. Im aspiring to be a teacher once I graduate.

-
A5 Encourage deep questioning and give Ss a chance to develop skills. Tech provides info, let the Ss do something with it!

-
A5: Continue asking each other if we are thinking/making decisions based on Ss or Adults. Keep vision strong for what we want to see

Thanks for joining tonight. Be better every day in every way - our students deserve it.

-
Q5-We can allow students more room for imagination and creativity in the classroom by giving them choices with classwork.

-
Thanks for modding. Not a huge crew, but an enjoyable convo. Have a great week!
