A1: I have had my Ss participate in the #HourofCode since it began several years ago. It is this week Dec 4-8, but you can do it whenever you can. #4thchat
A1: None of the classrooms I have participated in or shadowed in has used it. I have heard good things and am considering it for my classroom in the future #4thchat
A2: My district integrates technology into the classroom through various ways. The older students get, the more opportunities they have to take computer or technology classes. There are mandatory comp sci classes all must take #4thchat
None of the elementary schools in my area liked using an abundance of technology, so computer science was out of the question. I would love to incorporate it in my class and give my students a chance #4thchat
A3: Knowing something about coding is important to out students because it can either help us bond with our students or introduce them to something new that they might love #4thchat
A3: I feel like it is important so kids have a better understanding of the technology they are using. It also gives students the chance of finding something they enjoy in STEM early #4thchat

A2: More focus on Computer Science in MS & HS through CTE courses in my district, but many ES are using Dash & Dot, Spheros, Ozobots and participating in #HourofCode#4thchat
A3: I think knowing something about coding will be important in years to come. Also, it involves computational thinking & problem solving. Skills for all areas! #4thchat
A4: they could always bring their own devices, but if that isn’t possible they could follow along with the instructor. Taking turns and the instructor guiding on their own device is probably the best option. #4thchat
A3: When we consider how technology is infused in everything we do, it's easy to see how coding is a part of every career path. I think it will become the 2nd language all our S's need to graduate. #4thchat
A5: Honestly, I think that careers in eight years will be slightly more tech involved, but not much different than now. But, with the speed of technology, who knows what is around the corner!

A5: #4thchat I believe that more and more areas are going to be accepting of and encourage STEM resources for students. Our tech is constantly evolving and we haven’t let our students evolve with it. I believe that will be less of an issue by then
A5 Caregiver is listed here as second top job of 2015 since we will be living longerhttps://www.fastcompany.com/3058422/these-will-be-the-top-jobs-in-2025-and-the-skills-youll-need-to-get-them #4thchat
Where will VR & AI fit in with jobs in 2025? Rather interesting thought. #4thchat This article talks about "A Smart Home Handyman". https://t.co/cdk7Q7VcwK
Unplugged activities can spark a curiosity that will lead students to learn coding. Great way to introduce what an algorithm is, how a loop works etc. #4thchat
A6: Say “Let’s learn together!” If you present students with safe and helpful tools of any kind, the kids will figure it out together. Kids LOVE to help and show adults! #4thchat
A6: My Ss have no fear of coding and have asked to go to https://t.co/1p5mg3QGDu all year. Tipping my hat to our lower grade teachers for helping Ss code early. #4thchat
A6: I agree, @sabuller. Don’t suffer from logizomechanophobia. Learn to code alongside your students. Best way to demonstrate lifelong learning. #4thchat
Students realize that truth is a sign of respect. It's okay for us not to 'know' everything & learn from them. #4thchat I think that goes a long way in building strong relationships.
Q7: Do you think your students will want to extend the #hourofcode beyond this first week in December? How will you handle their request to do so? #4thchat
A7: My students always want to do more beyond #hourofcode week. They are able to go on https://t.co/qawXkYs9n5 and do lessons on their own when they have completed class lessons or during BYOD days. #4thchat
A7 Yes, I know they will extend it. We have an extra class period in the lab each week outside of regular computer class. They can use that time for one #4thchat
It could certainly be for enrichment. Those codes get more difficult as the students progress. #4thchat But I might even make it a "Problem Solving Center".
Thank you girls, for always being encouraging and amazing. Thanks to our #4thchat tribe who make this chat one so incredible! Welcome to the newbies, we hope you join us again!
