Q2) Is PD required as part of your employment? If so, what counts? If not, what motivates you to pursue?
#iolchat
jshamsy
Feb 17 @ 12:16 PM EST
Maybe some relabeling needs to occur employer provided PD that occurs at work and personal PD that occurs outside of work?

A2) We have some required PD and some that is optional
#iolchat
jshamsy
Feb 17 @ 12:20 PM EST
@LoriLDuke
I think your ideas represent the majority-many are "lifelong learners" and will engage despite extrinsic motivators =)
#iolchat

Would think personal PD...more motivation/incentive to learn - "better" learning

Q4) How important is earning a certificate or other documentation vs. participation-only PD materials and events?
#iolchat
Ms_Imthurn
Feb 17 @ 12:42 PM EST

Q4) For me it doesn't matter. I like to learn so either is great. And thanks for all the great links. Some great info there

I think that being able to prove participation is important. However, I think both types are important
#iolchat

A4) The org may require certificate if sponsoring PD, but personally, a cert is not as imp, as long as I'm learning!
jshamsy
Feb 17 @ 12:45 PM EST
Isn't necessarily good to rely just on formal PD...others filter the information - personal PD lets you discover what is useful
#iolchat
IOLblog
Feb 17 @ 12:46 PM EST
