Hello and welcome to #3rdchat. Please introduce yourself and let us know about your current role in education. Also, please tell us something wild and crazy you did this Summer. #BeTheWildCard
Azure, teacher from Derby, KS. This summer I haven't been wild and crazy that much. I did manage to eat a huge cherry in Minneapolis at the famous Spoon Bridge and Cherry sculpture. Probably more random than crazy! #3rdchat
Ron Martiello. 3rd Grade from PA. This Summer, I sang Karaoke at the end of season softball party. My kids never heard me sing before. They told me they would prefer I not sing in public with them again...Ha! š¤š¶ #3rdchat
Hi! Lesa Haney I currently learn alongside amazing kids and wonderful colleagues in Dripping Springs, which is just west of Austin TX. My crazy summer experience is yet to come. I will actually be flying in a Cessna over the very active Kilauea volcano in a few days. #3rdchat
My name is Angie, from Waxahachie, TX. I teach third grade and love it! Nothing's been wild & crazy this summer, but I am in my last Masters class! yahoo! #3rdchat
Donna from Fort Worth. I hiked for 8 miles through and overgrown path full of stinging nettles just to get to a pub to watch England play in the quarter finals #threelions#3rdchat
A1: Creativity sets people above the plateau. It allows us to rise above the status quo and put our personal signature on our efforts. #3rdchat#BeTheWildCard
A1: I can't settle. I can't ever stop moving forward striving for more engagement for my Ss, more opportunities to impact their learning. I have to keep climbing to the next mountain top. #3rdchat
Hi #3rdchat! I'm Heidi and I teach 3rd grade in Massachusetts. I'll be popping in and out tonight- I'm being wild and crazy and trying to participate in a few chats at once!
A1: As a "seasoned" veteran, it is nice to know that this old girl still has some kick left in her. Reminds me of a quote I have seen attributed to Maya Angelou. āYou can't use up creativity. The more you use, the more you have.ā #3rdchat
Hello! Angela from CA - 3rd grade + ELA/ELD site lead + Teacher Induction Mentor #3rdchat Not sure how wild & crazy but I traveled to New Jersey for a Tech Conference :)
Good evening #3rdchat ! Sarah, 3rd grade LA teacher from OH. I e missed you all! Ended up at a Taylor Swift concert in Dublin, Ireland just bc the lady at the pub talked us into on our last night in the country.. ā¬20 for 2 tix
A2: I don't stay comfortable for long. I get bored easily. If I'm bored, then my kids will be bored. My PLN is right there when I need them and they keep me from staying "comfortable". #3rdchat#bethewildcard
A2: I know it is time when I start to feel like I am on auto-pilot. Most importantly I know it when my kids' are starting to go through the motions. It time do that gut-check and cannonball into trying something new. #3rdchat
A1: Creativity is not flat...It can create a path that opens up to other ideas and avenues - For example one year a S made a Cake model of Saturn which led to a classroom Planet/Space celebration when everyone was done with their presentations. #3rdchat
A1 āCreativity is not a plateau." I love this! To me, it means that creativity is limitless and when the spark is ignited, watch out, because amazing things happen! How do all of you keep your creativity "sparks" ignited? #3rdchat
A2: Curriculum and pacing mandates means we have to be creative in HOW we deliver learning to our Ss. I loved Hope and Wade saying we can't use that as an excuse! We have to do the best for our students! #3rdchat#BeTheWildCard
A2: I feel like there is such a push, from friends and colleagues, to get outside your comfort zone. Everyone is trying new things and I want that same excitement and challenge for myself in my own classroom. #3rdchat
I'm ready to get out of my comfort zone when either I'm bored or my Ss are bored. I agree that when their is comfortableness then their usually isn't any growing going on. #3rdchat
Q3: Describe a creative idea you saw another educator do that inspired you to move forward. Give that Wildcard a shout-out and tag them on this post. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
I'm that teacher that can never just make it easy And do the same things year after year... my friends always ask why I do it to myself. I say, these kids are a different group, this is a new book that rocks and needs to be shared, new texh = new opportunities #3rdchat
A3: @swolfpack214 created "The Island" in her classroom. It integrates our Science & Social Studies Units. It engages students on a bigger scale & connects big ideas to one another. After reading #bethewildcard, my students & I need to get lost on lost on the island too. #3rdchat
A3: When my teammate @Adriann_Thomas implemented flexible seating a couple years ago, I was impressed with her innovative idea and classroom management. It inspired me to implement #flexibleseating into my own classroom and I love the way my Ss have responded. #3rdchat
A1: I feel like it means that as long as you push yourself and your creativity you will never plateau. Your own head and expectations get into the way of achieving that #3rdchat
A1 Creativity is a process. It takes time and thought. The process is ongoing and new ideas can come at any time. I enjoy trying new ideas. Things never get old! #3rdchat
A3: When my Twitter buddy @missmac100 and I first met I was a coach. We planned a PBL together via Skype. I had only coached/trained teachers in PBL. I never taught a PBL unit from start to finish. When I returned to the classroom, she coached me through my first one. #3rdchat
A2 I know I am ready to get out of my comfort zone when I'm not totally excited for the next day/project. If I'm excited, I know my students will be and then great learning will happen. I love being adventurous in my classroom! #3rdchat
A2: I always know I have hit the ācomfort zoneā when I start to worry about the progress of my students- when Iām pushing myself to think and be out of the box I am more confident about the progress of@my students. #3rdchat
A3: Along with some amazingly creative lessons she did last year, @Carter_Cares had an awesome Paris room transformation that has inspired me to take my creativity to the next level. I have some plans in my brain that I can't wait to make happen this year! #3rdchat#bethewildcard
Q3: Describe a creative idea you saw another educator do that inspired you to move forward. Give that Wildcard a shout-out and tag them on this post. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
A3: I will never forget visiting @misszeisler āa classroom- she ignited my passion for flex seating and project/problem based learning. I still look through those notes I took that day to inspire me- and I use her as a sounding board often. Sheās the best! #3rdchat
Q3: Describe a creative idea you saw another educator do that inspired you to move forward. Give that Wildcard a shout-out and tag them on this post. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
:) You helped me so much by just listening to my crazy idea and helping me with all the PBL stuff I didn't know. Then you had such great ideas to make it even better! :)
A3 One of my best art teacher friends was talking about her new curriculum where the kids have to learn more about museums, etc. I loved her ideas and got a "spark" Now I want to turn my classroom into night at the museum this year. Can't wait to see what comes alive! #3rdchat
A4: Our #dhefamily has Dragon Clubs each month. Teachers share their passion with students in whatever club they choose. Those clubs could be coding, volleyball, dancing, etc. My club was a greenscreen club using @DoInkTweets. #3rdchat
A4: Our school hosts Girls on the Run. Girls attend meetings after school. They train for a 5K, meet and discuss social and emotional topics, and perform a service project. Families and staff are all welcome to get involved. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
As I post this, the rain is pouring down and I have to thank my lucky stars that once again #booksonblankets was spared from being washed out! The theme of the night was comedy and the books the celebrity readers shared stepped up to the challenge! š #summerreading
A4: our amazing third and fourth grade team started month family nights for our two grades with a different theme each year. Seeing those kids with their parents and getting to interact with them outside the school day was amazing! I love our team! #3rdchat
A4: My favorite thing my school did this year was have every student get a turn on announcements. It sounds small, but we looked forward to watching every day! We also did a great job communicating with a principal's newsletter and on social media. #3rdchat
A3: Our RSP T @maleguev received some flexible seating options for her classroom - So I asked if I could borrow a yoga ball (the big red ball) for one of my Ss who literally could not sit still. The S ended up using all year long. #3rdchat
A4: New school this year, but in a past school, a bunch of us teachers would bring lemonade and cookies in the summer to various areas in the community where many of our students lived. We would share stories with students and parents, have lemonade, play football, etc. #3rdchat
A4: Last year we started doing eduwalks a couple times a month! After school, staff members who wanted to would walk the neighborhood of our school, meeting Ss and their families along the way. We set the example of outdoor exercise, togetherness, and friendship! #3rdchat
A4 after reading #kidsdeserveit this year, we started "teacher time" on Wednesdays at our local library where Ts from both elementary schools spend an hour helping with homework, playing games and reading w kids and families #3rdchat
Q5: Ownership is an extremely powerful tool. What school-wide programs allow students to take ownership of their school community? #3rdchat#bethewildcard
A5: Our principal @marcgosselinjr had student lunches scheduled throughout the year. He met with them in small groups and listened to them about their school experiences. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
A5: We are a Leader in Me school. https://t.co/gsRSJC7X0T As we grow in the process, it is amazing to see the impact this has on student ownership. #3rdchat
A5: We use PBIS for our behavior program and it encompasses everyone's participation. It helps Ss have ownership over the environment so we can have time to learn! We are Smart, Brave, Kind, and Fearless! #3rdchat
A5: @SycamoreSprgsES Ss are empowered to lead in different ways and activities. They take ownership of their learning and school community and it shows in all they do. @SSEScounselor#3rdchat
Q5: Ownership is an extremely powerful tool. What school-wide programs allow students to take ownership of their school community? #3rdchat#bethewildcard
A6: Our big sister @RamageLynda takes care of all of us at school. I cannot name 1 event, because she is there for us everyday personally & professionally. She treats us like family. She is also a fantastic baker. I don't know what we would do without her. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
A5 I teach in a community school district that is founded on tradition and pride and focused on excellence from the bus drivers, to the teachers to the community volunteers to the students. Everyone is vital to the entire "community" and is valued for their gifts. #3rdchat
A6: A couple years ago, I had a challenge that impacted me both personally and professionally. Two amazing colleagues noticed and took me under their wings for a bit. Always grateful to @pirateleader2nd and @Rocking4th for reaching out. #3rdchat
A4: @RS_NBPS hosts many parent events throughout the year. We held a literacy event early in the year where students received a free book, Zumba with Mom, Roosevelt Awards Day. We build relationships by having parents involved in our school. #3rdchat
A5: I love giving my students Choice through a tic-tac-toe menu with math projects. My students went above and beyond and had more pride in their work because they had choice and owned the work. #3rdchat
A6: I did morning meetings all last year. They were the BEST part of our day. When trying to create my schedule for next year, I ran into issues of time. I couldn't figure out how and when to implement it. @MisterCompas told me "No excuses!" and I'm making it work. #3rdchat
A6 A colleague helped me find a growth opportunity this summer that allowed me to step out of my comfort zone.I had so much fun, made great connections, and learned a lot! It was a good boost for me and Iām so grateful! I havenāt stopped smiling and talking about it yet! #3rdchat
A7: Sometimes, teachers teeter on the edge of a new idea. It is awesome to see someone get excited over a something new. I listen & provide encouragement to go for it. There are times when we need a little push when standing on the edge of something big. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
Q6: Describe something a fellow colleague did for you to help you personally or professionally when you needed it. How did it impact you? Give that person a shout-out.
A7: I think as teachers we need to be a positive spirit to help empower others. We all get into the venting storm, so listening and affirming are needed, but bringing light back into it is important, too! #3rdchat
A7 ask questions. Stay interested in the amazing things happening in your building. This year I am starting a "community caffeine" station and plan to write questions, start discussion, on the chalkboard to keep everyone excited to share #3rdchat
A7: I empower other educators by helping to build upon their strengths. Building strong connections with my team has allowed me to learn their strengths and areas of growth. This allows me to help when they need it but to encourage through their strengths. #3rdchat
A7: I'm a mentor teacher. I help guide current teachers and those working to become a teacher some day. I try to model but even better, I get excited when they have an idea all their own! I encourage them to run with it and support them along the way. #3rdchat
A6 I know this is cheesy, but I remember being called out of school the day my father died. On my way out, my team asked me if I needed anything and all I could say was "Pringles". When I returned a few days later, my desk was covered in cans of Pringles. šā¤ļø #3rdchat
Q8: We read and study together to find long-lasting ideas and strategies. What do you feel is going to be your biggest takeaway from #Bethewildcard? #3rdchat
A8: My biggest take away is to draw from my own strengths and not simply copy what others have done. I appreciate the Kings for driving that point home repeatedly in the book. #3rdchat
A8: First, I am going to be more empathetic to the "cards" my students bring to the game. I will also up my ante on my superhero theme and enhance that experience. I will integrate those experiences in the curriculum. #3rdchat#bethewildcard
I empower others by stepping outside of the box and trying new things and when they work, I share them. I love hearing about how things were successful in their classrooms too. #3rdchat
A8 room transformations. Did a lot do role play before becoming instructional specialist so @mariasolis326 & I are going to do that more this year. Canāt wait #3rdchat
A7: I empower others by stepping outside of the box and trying new things and when they work, I share them. I love hearing about how things were successful in their classrooms too. #3rdchat
A8: Consistency is my biggest take away - "It is the key to making something work for you." Last year was very challenging in many ways and there were times that I was not consistent (killed my expectations). #3rdchat
I really want to"be the wild card" for my kids. I want to be able to learn more about them personally socially and academically and incorporate those relationships into my curriculum. I also want to go "out of my comfort zone" to make my classroom more energetic and fun.#3rdchat
Q8: We read and study together to find long-lasting ideas and strategies. What do you feel is going to be your biggest takeaway from #Bethewildcard? #3rdchat
A7 I think we empower other educators by appreciating and running with their ideas. Just think about how we feel when someone likes our ideas... We feel amazing! I like when others experience that too...confidence is built, and lots of learning is the outcome for all! #3rdchat
Thanks @Ron_Martiello so much for wrapping up our study of #bethewildcard tonight. I have enjoyed learning alongside my #3rdchat peeps this summer. I am excited where this takes us next year.
A8: My big take-aways are to not settle for comfort and remember to ignore the Joker. Learn from others but you do you! Make it your own and #bethewildcard that your students need you to be. #3rdchat
