TNedchat is a way for educators in Tennessee to share thoughts, resources, and information. The weekly chat is moderated by Jessica Warner (@jessawarner) and Samantha Bates (@sjsbates).
Welcome to #TnEdChat ! Tonight we will be talking about changes in the world that impact educatio— when you see the statement, agree or disagree with how you feel about it then discuss your concerns !
We will use a Q1, Q2…format for Questions during #TnEdChat . Please use the A1, A2… format for answers and add a gif or meme to visually support your answer
A2 agree. Fortunately I’ve not been in a teaching culture like that... I will say as a student I struggled with this mentality- too much a perfectionist #TNEDCHAT
A2 Hum... Depended on my level of interest in the subject and connection to the teacher. I wonder if we replaced "grades" with "evaluation" scores if the answers would be the same. #tnedchat
Agreed.... Then we have a repsonsibility as a teacher to change the way we tie learning and instruction to achivement and growth and communicate it loudly to all who will listen. #tnedchat
A2: as a kid I felt the impact of being focused on grades, as a teacher I focused more on the student more than the grade, as a mom I confess that I want to see the A but I don’t feel that places a value on my child personally as I reinforce doing his personal best #tnedchat
A3 Agree. It’s never ever crossed my mind. I do plot plans in my head of@worse case scenario situations but I never have a gun. Too many “what if’s” in my mind that could make it worse instead of better #TNEDCHAT
A3: never myself but as a parent I’ve ask myself how I’d feel if my child’s teachers brought one...just doesn’t sit well with me & I feel more training is required than a permit to carry, I’m comfortable w/resource officers carrying bc they’re extensively trained #tnedchat
A3 stinks that we even have to have that conversation ...there are people I would feel comfortable carrying but others I would not...tough one but I can't say I haven't thought about it for protecting me and others #tnedchat
A4 disagree. I think it is hard for everyone to discern real and #fakenews in today’s world but we HAVE TO equip Ss with skills for discernment #tnedchat
Check your score...if you agreed with everything you’re a winner tonight and someone I’m glad to have in my PLN because you’re also pretty dang smart in my book!’ #TNEDCHAT
A4 disagree, sometimes it just seems so real, a legit source, we have to really know how to examine the news, the source, build #medialiteracy skills, #tnedchat
A3 never have considered bc it's against the law. But if it was legal - yes I would. But I've been trained and would want more and consistent training #tnedchat
