Meet and chat with colleagues about Universal Design for Learning (UDL) on Twitter! The best hour of professional learning you'll get in 30 minutes. Held the first and third Wednesdays of the month from 9-9:30PM ET.
Welcome! Excited to have everyone here tonight for the #udlchat Please introduce yourself and where you are from and tell us what you would ask your magic mirror if you had one!
Kelley from BCSC in Columbus, IN. Such a hard choice...my daughters would be happy if I said free, unlimited tickets to Broadway musicals. #nocomplaints#udlchat
Patti from Ohio and I'm lucky enough to work with Lindsay! I'd ask my magic mirror "Why did I go down the basement after I put popcorn in the microwave?!" #udlchat

A1: Reflection is key in thinking about where I am going with udl implementation-what do I need to keep or change to meet my Ss in a way that matters to their learning #udlchat
A1: Reflection is always important to celebrate what you have done well, think about what can be done better, and set goals for the next round. Always improving. #udlchat
A1) Reflection is needed for growth. Our district has purposefully set aside time for teachers to reflect on lessons. We also ask teachers to seek out feedback from other teachers as part of the reflection. Very powerful! #udlchat
A1: Reflection is a professional responsibility if we want to implement UDL well. UDL takes the burden of change off of students and puts it on the learning environment. You don't know what to change if you don't reflect. #udlchat

A1: reflection is key in so many ways. Looking back on what I can improve, what worked well, what worked for 1 S that was unexpected, what surprised me. And always what my S think could make a lesson better. #alwaysasking#udlchat
A1: reflection is important in any lesson, sometimes that’s something we forget to do through the craziness of a school day! It’s important to grow through the UDL process and we can do this through reflection #edt5334#udlchat
A1: the reflection allows to have clear the pkanificacion and allows to check the advances or jams that happen. I also relate the reflection with self-determination and regulation#UDLchat
I often find it beneficial to have the kids do a reflection too. Sometimes what we try doesn't always work, but they have better ideas. #udlchat#edt5334
A1: #UDL encourages reflection before, during, and after learning experience--a true process...it's ongoing, promotes proactive designing and flexibility in the moments-- and results connected-engaged learners! And that's how it's done! Yeah! #UDLchat
A1: Reflection makes UDL possible. As we reflect what our learners need, we can choose to make sure they have many options to engage, understand and demonstrate #udlchat

A2: I promote reflection in several ways. One is to use metacognitive stratagies. I explain my own reflection and thinking as I run a learning environment #udlchat
A2: promoting reflection in our learners is simple...send the message...and co-create the space for students to know and feel that their voice matters! Co-create that safe space for self-regulation and montoring #udlchat
A2. Give in-class time, or homework assignments asking for reflection of ideas, how they relate to information, what was most important/interesting. #UDLchat
Q2) Reflection comes in many ways from out practice to our own assumptions of learning and even assumptions as to why we are educators. To me the best way to reflect is to norm your group and prepare for personal disruption in timely intervals #udlchat
A2. Providing clear goals! Using good questioning during conferencing, giving Ss ways to self reflect. Most Ss can’t self reflect because we haven’t taught them HOW. #udlchat

We reflect and self-assess constantly in class. It can be as simple as a "show me your thumbs!"..Thumbs up = we got this ... Thumbs to the side = I have a question... Thumbs down = I need more practice #udlchat
A2: Always important to allow TIME for reflection with our learners. If we don’t plan for it, it’s often the first thing that gets brushed aside. #UDLchat
A2: I frequentlyask students to give specific feedback on what we do in class, but also about their lives, current events, books we read. Reflection becomes natural and i sometimes don’t have to ask. Fave ? How can i help you succeed? #udlchat

A2:I love using unexpected objects to prompt reflection and connection to what students have learned or what they're feeling about their learning-toys, school supplies, and my new favorite ulead cards from @uniqueleaders! #udlchat
Ah! yes! the gift of time--yes! And there is always time to weave in valuable reflective processing...a quick 3 minute pause...turn and talk...etc... #UDLchat
A3: What good is using UDL in classroom if we don't use during assessment? They need to show us what they know and we need to provide those multiple means of representation in order for them to do so :) #udlchat
A1: UDL is all about the Learning experiencing learning in a way that is meaningful to the teacher being able to design for the variability of that learner. It is ESSENTIAL to reflect on what works and what doesn’t so we can build a design toolkit to help all #udlchat
A2 Empowering students through feedback means they have opportunity to make informed choices on next steps to their learning. But what happens when their choice deviates from prescribed curriculum? #sblchat
A3 Reflection questions for me - Is this working, how can I make it better next time? What needs to change? Ask Ss the same? What's working what's not? #udlchat
A3: "Can you teach me how to solve this problem?" "What were your silly mistakes?" When students are aware of what they did "wrong" they will be able to teach around those mistakes. It's not that they don't get it. They just don't get it YET! #udlchat
A3) I have started to use the Checkpoints as a place to start my reflection. I am in the process of looking at past lessons and trying to find areas of growth. This is for PD with our adult learners.
#udlchat
A3: How are you going in relation to your plan? Do you need more time? Do you want to change something? names 3 essential elements of what has been done .... #UDLchat
A3: Love @drrevdean's "Someday, Monday" protocol and also using the UDL principles to frame questions as seen by @AllisonAposey (What inspired you, How can I help you learn more? How will you act on your learning?) #udlchat
A1: UDL is all about the Learner’s experience, and the Teacher designs for the variability of the learner in multiple context of experiences... to continue to grow and have success we must reflect on what works and what doesn’t, thereby building our UDL toolkit #udlchat
A4 self-reflection after each class or assignment (virtual classes) and examine the way in which UDL was used to guide the course/assignment, and what could be done to improve it. #UDLchat
#udlchat My commitment is to always be mindful of where I can improve. It is also where I can implement. Last one is always the defense cause y'all know there's always someone who doesn't get it and calls it "unfair advantage"
A4 providing meaningful PL to me mean seeing it in action daily in the district. If I don’t see it, I own it. Owning data, reflecting, changing and trying again. #udlchat
Reflection is such an important part of implementing #UDL. Thank you to @lindsayjoslater & @Ronbrogers for helping us do that! Join us Dec 6 for our next live #UDLchat.
A4) I try to inject reflection into many facets of my PLs and classroom work but there is always room for more. Lately Ive been trying to set up physical spaces within the environment that are reflection zones to help us recognize the process. That and of course protocols #udlchat
#udlchat Main one is making sure Ss needs are being met and where I can improve there. Cause, in the end, it's all about them and ensuring they are learning and loving learning :)
A4: UDL confession: Sometimes I realize I haven't looked at the actual guidelines in awhile 😬Need to dive deep and make sure I'm staying true to reflecting on real UDL, not fake UDL. #udlchat
I want to thank @lindsayjoslater for doing the #udlchat co-facilitating with me tonight. Thank you! The #UDLchat tonight has been great. Thanks to everyone.
A3. Reflect using the 3 UDL principles! "Have I provided multiple means of representation...did I provide opportunities for multiple and varied ways of expression...and did I use the power of engagement?" Basic but intentional! #udlchat
Thanks to everyone for participating in tonight's #udlchat reflective experience! You are all awesome! So thankful for this community of reflective educators!
If we don't reflect then we don't know where we are at at any given point in time. Its a point of reference! Reflection integrates the learner's process and from that integration we can move on.#udlchat
