As we transition to personalized learning for students, should administrators and others who lead professional development for staff members be open to personalize the PD experience?

A2: It's all about choice and voice at my school so our PD is mostly centered around a menu of sessions so that teachers can choose which one to attend. #fcsvanguard
A2: we personalize for students to meet their needs, keep them engaged, push them, and address their interests. Adults need this too!! We all want to learn but it might not and need not look the same for everyone. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard a2: most def. JITDI, varies strategies; and choice for demonstrating learning...it all relates to My Growth in TKES and just as an educator
A2 If a needs assessment was completed before PD was pushed out, then proactively planning for ALL learners to meet each person where they are at would be possible.
Thought... maybe everyone doesn't need the same PD because people are learning at different paces #fcsvanguard
A2 PD should respect coveted time, be engaging, relevant and right on time and show teachers their voice matters #fcsvanguard. Choice/voice, varied strategies, flexible pacing and just in time instruction
We did this today with Webb Br. Middle. Session choices based on interest! Loved it. Lead one session, went to one on using Teams, and one on what to expect from Generation Z. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard
One has be prepared for a variety of activities to meet everyoneโs needs. You need to access where everyone is and be prepared to make changes.
#fcsvanguard
A2: I think that it would build confidence, and make staff members feel like they are receiving PD based on their needs as well. One size does not fit all for teachers either.
A2: A2: people would be more interested and engaged in what is being presented if it applies to them directly and is a need of theirs. Also having a choice of PDs to attend #fcsvanguard
A2: I think we would have more school meetings that would be diverse enough to suit everyone who attends. I have sat through math development meeting when I teach music. Needless to say, I didnโt get much out of it. #fcsvanguard
A3: Choice and Voice is the biggest. Adults are worse than students in getting on board sometimes. Giving professionals some say goes a long way. #fcsvanguard
A2: Getting teachers input should be a must. Teachers should have Choice and Voice during professional learning so that they can chose a tool that aligns to their teaching styles and that will allow them to enhance their teaching practices #fcsvanguard
Varied Strategies- I 'm definitely an advocate for teaching the same thing in multiple ways! There are so many learning styles that teachers should also have their choice of learning in their best modality #FCSVanguard
A3: choice and voice for sure, but I also think flexible pacing - letting Ts move on as they feel ready or honing in on something they want to make stronger. #fcsvanguard
A3 #fcsvanguard When planning PD, it starts with what you are trying to achieve and then what are the behaviors that you want your learners (teachers) to demonstrate...so my answer,
it depends on how deep you are going with the content and your expectations for implementation.
A3: While I think PD should encompass most of the foundations of ea. prin., I think Flexible Pacing stands out as one that provides t's w/ an opp. to learn at their own pace. Providing a variety of resources & ways to show their understanding supports this, as well. #FCSVanguard
Theyโre all so important, but I think that choice is actually the most important. We are all in different places in our journey-one size never fits all! #FCSVanguard
A3: All of them would lead to a desired outcome - more engagement! Especially choice and voice, teachers would feel like they are being heard. #FCSVanguard
A3: Teacher's have to be able to speak up for what they need, and then they need to share in the process from start to finish. Otherwise PD is done TO us instead of alongside us. #Co-planning #fcsvanguard
A2: Teachers learn a lot through their PLCs during sharing and comparing information. Even outside of their PLCs, when speaking with others they can learn new things that may be beneficial.#fcsvanguard
A3: Choice and Voice: I believe teachers would react better and have more fun with something they feel they had say in rather than something they were forced to attend. #fcsvanguard
A3: For me, flexible pacing and choice & voice. All teachers at the PD shouldn't be forced to go at the same pace when there are such a wide variety of tech comfort levels in the room. #fcsvanguard
A3: Wow, such a good question! I am going to go for mastery-based learning as I believe PD should be continuous so that teachers can track their own growth to decide what further trainings they need. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard a4: start w the norms but have a common goal. While we all might have different needs, the goal should come back to be the same...guiding ?: What can i do to help my students enhance their learning experience
A2: by allowing the staff to choose which PD sessions they would benefit from the most, would increase engagement and could make learning more meaningful during those long after school hours! #fcsvanguard
A4 - Iโm thinking like a โChoose Your Own Adventureโ style survey to start. Based on T responses suggestions could be given for a few different seasons that all focused on the same topic. Ts could choose session then reconvene at the end. #fcsvanguard
A3:Definitely choice and voice. How will this PD benefit me and my students. If I am not a math teacher should I be required to sit through math training? Or should I be allowed to use that time on something relevant to my goals? #fcsvanguard
A4
#fcsvanguard Start with a needs assessment of what teachers want and what they need is key! Use that data to drive the PD in your school and when to give the PD.
A4 (pt.1): #FCSVanguard@FCSVanguard We all have devices at this point, PD agendas should be interactive or set up similar to a HyperDoc or at best contain hyperlinks. That way, t's can get all of the content they need and most at their own pace.
A3: Varied Strategies: Teachers may work best with small group instruction, modules or 1-on-1-support AND Flexible Pacing: teachers required different needs at different times. #fcsvanguard
A3: I think flexible pacing would be the best because most PD sessions can be information overload. Through flexible pacing faculty and staff can move through the information at their pace and not feel overwhelmed. #fcsvanguard
A4: Goal- Why this Why now, Behavior- What are we learning, How- What does this look like in my classroom, Activity to enhance the learning then Practice...what does this look like in my class. Then expectations for implementation are given.#fcsvanguard
A3: Varied Strategies: Teachers may work best with small group instruction, modules or 1-on-1-support AND Flexible Pacing: Teachers require different needs at different times. #fcsvanguard
A4 (pt.2): Also, grab other experts. Free yourself up. Provide t's with the opp. to be in small groups or have 1-on-1 sessions. Also, have devices centrally located to indicate that it's a space for safe play/practice. #FCSVanguard@FCSVanguard Oh, and FOLLOW-UP!
I'd actually like to see an agenda with time allotted for a mini EdCamp to gauge the needs of the teachers without the use of an actual survey or assessment #FCSVanguard
A4: Different groups for different ability levels. The ability to move on when ready. Videos/podcasts for those that need more assistance. Enrichment/remediation activities, just like our classrooms. #fcsvanguard
A3: I believe Flexible Pacing is Key Teachers should be able to move at their pace ( in respected time of course) #fcsvanguard we shouldn't expect every teacher to master every thing at the same time.
A4: It would have items that apply to everyone that all teachers attend, and then, it would have break out sessions that teachers could choose from. That way, teachers would feel as though they got to attend things that applied to them and what they teach. #FCSVanguard
A4: interactive agenda, flexible pacing/grouping-maybe not just grade level or department, common end goal for PD we just might take different paths to the finish line #fcsvanguard
A4: could be a choice board of different sessions or activities for people to work on, allowing people to go through sessions t their own pace if they are online, or providing times for certain live sessions #fcsvanguard
Running PD using those strategies to model. We use varied strategies and give teachers choices. We have had them take a survey that helped personalize what each person would benefit from or needed more support....JITDI. #fcsvanguard
A4: The agenda should have information to be presented in various forms and some time is allotted for teachers to show their level of understanding how they feel comfortable. #fcsvanguard
A4: Perhaps it could mirror those conferences we attend where we meet as a whole group then have breakout sessions that are centered around various topics. This would address the various learning styles of the teacherโs. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard Im thinking Varied Strategies would enhance training in that teachers with the new standards and learning students have to be equipped with various strategies to master standards. This provides teachers with instructional strategies and materials to do just that
A4: Start with topics of interests-then groups-then facilitating the PD-more movement the better- have a ticket out-pallets great way to share #fcsvanguard
A5: This diagram pretty much sums it up. Again PD should be continuous just like how student learning is continuous that builds upon prior knowledge #fcsvanguard
A3: I will say Co-Planning. This is a big one. It is one that it rare in many school settings, particularly schools with uncommon visions. #fcsvanguard
A3: I like Just-in-time Direct Instruction - Where I can receive what I specifically need. Sometimes too much coming at one time gets lost. #fcsvanguard
A5: This diagram pretty much sums it up. Again PD should be continuous just like how student learning is continuous that builds upon prior knowledge #fcsvanguard
Flex Pacing is embeded in Co-planning. That's what I love about Co-planning is that it's sustainable. I feel like once all of the flash is gone, it will be the principle that sticks because it is the most student focused. #fcsvanguard
A5: In some environments, this IS NOT what I see and in others I see the transition. I think the largest takeaway is that culture and climate has to cultivate this type of teacher/adult learning. @FCSVanguard#FCSVanguard
A5: I think we are heading in the right direction by using twitter as a platform for more than just tweeting the awesome things going on in our schools, but actually using twitter to learn and grow as professionals. Example being this Twitter Chat.
#fcsvanguard
A5: I like that it shows the PD as a cycle. It seems similar to the Plan/Do/Check/Act cycle. There's always room for growth, no matter which level you're at - this diagram helps grow everyone. #fcsvanguard
A4 It would provide the participants with best practices to differentiate, it would have possible stations to learn at your own pace, allow participants voices and choice of what may be included, and targeted instruction around specific topics #fcsvanguard
A6: weโve just been using google forms to publish short reflections. It takes almost no time, but really makes you think about what youโre learning and practicing #FCSVanguard
A2 (cont.): Otherwise, imposing this shift on teachers who are only used to traditional or old school PD will have them looking like a deer caught in headlights. @fcsvaguard#fcsvanguard
A6: Utilizing survey data on reaction and learning obj. after PD is important to inform next steps. For applying, walk through form, self-reflection, benchmarking, refinement, all a part of #HighqualityPL help monitor implementation for change in teacher practice. #fcsvanguard
I know, Iโm getting close! The end is in sight! This has been a great experience for me, I have really grown as an instructional leader. Thank you for your support, I got a lot of inspiration and ideas from #fcsvanguard!
I love this map, I think this is a great model to consider when schools are considering PD. #fcsvanguard using the data provided from your school helps paint a Full picture of what is really Needed and not Wanted. Take this and feedback from the teacher and we are on our way
A7: yes! If teachers are engaged and interested and motivated, Ss will be as well. We model even when we donโt mean to. There have been times Iโve been SO excited to implement something and my kids feed off that! #fcsvanguard
A2: This is something I know we've worked on as a school. We modeled personalized learning through Professional Learning- for example doing a station rotation or a PL choice board have been effective. #fcsvanguard
A4: Choice boards created from data collected from teachers about tools that they are interested in and want to implement in their classrooms.#fcsvanguard
A6: The possibilities are endless. They can use LMS' like OneNote, Google Classroom, Edmodo, etc. They can also develop HyperDocs for learning paths or use the IFTTT/branching features in Google/MS Forms to make them interactive. Nearpod is also great! @FCSVanguard#FCSVanguard
A3: Choice and voice! Giving teachers that voice and choice in how they are learning is KEY in making professional learning successful. Without this it really can be a bust. #fcsvanguard
A6: they could do a survey, or trying utilizing new options as a way to also keep the building up to date on new tools for personalized learning. #fcsvanguard
A7 #fcsvanguard Depends... what is the purpose and expected change of instruction. If a tool, then low, but if changing how instruction is provided to students, then it could be a change agent.
A7: Absolutely increase. The idea of personalizing is that you are meeting the needs of everyone and raising everyone up, not just a select few. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard a7: Honestly i think personalizing it is a start but is not the complete solution. To see student achievement increase, i think the follow thru from the pd is what is important rather personalized or not
A4: I think PD choice boards are an awesome way to provide a personalized PD experience. I like to survey teachers on topics they are interested in learning about, then ask teachers who want to lead those topic and then create a choice board on them. #fcsvanguard
A4: Teacher groups could be formed, then the groups could rotate to 7 stations that house information and strategies for each principle. At the stations should be sample instructional products for the various disciplines, so that teachers have relevant experiences. #fcsvanguard
A5: With a lot of PD the support and measure is not there. I find that teachers implement more when it is embedded PD when I go into to classroom. #fcsvanguard
A7: Again, making the process make sense for teachers is having them understand the PL principles, connect them to their own pedagogical practices, and allowing them to build/curate resources for their students to experience as a safe-practice. @FCSVanguard#FCSVanguard
A7 (cont.): The results will begin to transfer into student achievement gains. Especially if the school's instructional frameworks align with the ideals of the principles. @FCSVanguard#FCSVanguard
A7 if the PD is modeling what personalized learning looks like in the classroom i.e. the facilitator as "teacher" than wouldn't the teacher get to see what the it would look like in a classroom?
#fcsvanguard
A7 I think there would be benefits. What a great way for teachers to learn how to use personalized learning in their classroom by taking part in PD that is designed around it. #fcsvanguard
I think that personalized learning for teachers will eventually help student achievement becuase teachers will see the benefits of it and begin to use it in their own classrooms #fcsvanguard
A8: start with sending out something to get the staff input. What do they want PD to look like? What do they want to get out of PD? What do they need? #fcsvanguard
A7: I think it could potentially have an impact on student achievement, teachers are more likely to implement newly acquired information if they understand what is expected. #FCSvanguard@FCSVanguard
In reply to
@fordfusion81, @_readingrocks, @FCSVanguard, @FCSVanguard
They could begin with the use of one of the aforementioned tools to personalize the PD's starting with the greatest area of need and providing options for Ts to attend where they want/need. #FCSVanguard
#fcsvanguard@FCSVanguard
A8: We mentioned some things earlier such as needs assessments, polls, and surveys. Getting feedback is a good starting point. From there, maybe implement small doses of choice at least.
A8: A starting point could be developing Speedy PD sessions, Speed-dating style sessions, or even hosting mini-EdCamps to begin to immerse teachers in the idea of personalized PD. S/O to @HEHElementary & @LPES_Patriots! @FCSVanguard#FCSVanguard
Omg yes!Teachers will be more invested and ready to implement the amazing things learned in their classrooms when given the opportunity to learn in a way that fits their learning styles. Personalized PD is a great model for what should be happening in our classrooms! #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard A8 baby steps towards personalized PD surveying the teachers to determine the PD topics, soliciting teachers to participate in delivery, provide different stations and forms of receiving the PD information & materials
A8 At my school, Lake Forest, we will have our very 1st EdCamp style PD. I'm facilitating a NearPod session. Ts have will have a choice of sessions they want to learn about. #fcsvanguard
A6: Surveys! Using google or microsoft forms is awesome in helping to do this! For presenting professional learning, nearpod is a great way to model a personalized learning experience. #fcsvanguard
A7 I believe Personalized PD still needs to be Structured and Focused on the needs of the immediate needs. Also not Overwhelming to us. sometimes we have so many great PDs but no time to reflect, practice , and fail. #fcsvanguard#Guided PD
A7: I think it would because teachers would be more familiar with what personalized learning is by experiencing it. Whichakes it easier to take to the classroom. #fcsvanguard
A8 #FCSVanguard Start with asking teachers what they need, then what does Admin see as a need from observation as well as what the school-wide data says #datainformed
A8: ask for staff input for setting the PD agenda. Every school will have their must dos but allow for options and hopefully see the professional growth when given choices #fcsvanguard
A7: Achievement is tied to what the teacher does with the students directly, It could have an impact if the teacher chooses the Personalized Learning techniques. #fcsvanguard
Q7: Yes, if teachers are engaged and excited it can roll over into the classroom. Plus, modeling personalized learning will help teachers with what it looks like in the classroom. #fcsvanguard
Everything in moderation. It saves a lot of time- also having digital access to the PD's after presenting is helpful for allowing absent Ts to still get the PD #FCSVanguard
A9: I presented today. it was something i was intimately familiar with and was easy to present and field questions. It wasnโt a lot of extra work. If I had to present on a new topic not of my choice... more work. #fcsvanguard
#fcsvanguard i agree. use multiple sources of data (e.g. student achievement, teacher perception, etc.) and triangulate the results to develop a WELL THOUGHT THROUGH Plan that focuses on the โHowโ
A8 #FCSVanguard Start with asking teachers what they need, then what does Admin see as a need from observation as well as what the school-wide data says #datainformed
A7: Yes, implementing personalized learning tools during professional learning will increase student achievement because the teachers will walk away with a tool that they can hopefully go share with their students. #fcsvanguard
In reply to
@fordfusion81, @_readingrocks, @FCSVanguard
A8: Start with teachers completing a survey of what they need more of. Look at your overall school data from your school. Look in TKES at the pre-conference data see where educators are rating themselves use this information to start #fcsvanguard
A7: The implementation of Personalized PD would encourage teachers to utilize the tools and in turn impact scholar exposure to more exciting instructional experiences. #fcsvanguard
A9 I think those that are presenters/ facilitators enjoy doing it. and would not find unnecessary. If anything I think they may find it more impactful. its better to have 4 fully engaged individuals than 30 who are not. #fcsvanguard#PDthatSticks
#fcsvanguard a9: i mean some of the work presenters are doing now is unnecessary when they arenโt reaching teachers. U just wasted their time and urs.
A9 at my old school, I was a facilitator of Cycles of Professional Learning. It was a lot of work and also, restricted me to only being able to attend my session since I was facilitating it. #FCSvanguard
