A1 - Creatures that we would like to see and people have heard talk of, but no one or very few have had the pleasure of meeting these creatures. They are elusive, important, engaging, and thought provoking. #edtechchat
In Little Rock at @Marriott ready for the @edtechteam Arkansas summit starting tomorrow! I'm ready to learn some new @GoogleForEdu ideas to bring back to my school. This is a view from my room of Little Rock. #edtech#edtechchat
Hey All! I have had a twitter for a while but this is my first time participating in a live Twitter chat. I am looking forward to learning something new! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU

Hi! My name is Alison Campey and this will be my 3rd year teaching kindergarten. I am excited to participate in my first Twitter chat! I look forward to learning new things! #edtechchat#kinderchat#edu5213SBU
A1 The Mythical creatures of #edtech revolve around things, objectives, situations, learning needs and other external factors. Most often these surface when technology is placed before pedagogy or without trying to address a learning need. #edtechchat
A2 - Using Adobe fully in my classroom including FinalCut, Audition, Photoshop and Spark. I would love for my students to understand these tools that they may use in their day to day working life. #edtechchat
I just wish that I could use them fully, meaning every day and fluidly. However, they take desktops for the most part and time in the lab is at a premium. #edtechchat Open to suggestions.

A2 My tool would have to be Google Chrome and all the apps that come along with it. Google Apps have been a game changer, especially Google Classroom. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A2 My mind and my creativity. I am much more a builder of tools than a user of tools. OK, I use a text editor to type the code, and sometimes an ide, but it's not necessary. #EdTechChat
A2: Hmm... hard to decide! I love all things related to @GoogleForEdu . Great place for students to create and explore. I also love having the students showcase their learning through @Seesaw#edtechchat#EDUC5359

A3- I would say resources and devices in the classroom as will as my children's age (pre-k). Most things take a lot of reading, and most pre-ks just aren't there yet
#edtechchat#edu5213SBU
How about a digital scavenger hunt in an outdoor learning space for students partners to use iPads or technology to document/ and discuss video their learning and create a gallery in Padlet #hacklearningdaily
From what I heard they just dropped their price for education. I have persuaded my principal to buy them for our school, so next year more Adobe. #edtechchat
A3 Lack of tech, outdated tech, bandwidth, students off task, passwords (forgotten), paid subscriptions (not a problem but I don't want to pay out of personal budget) #edtechchat
A3- My edtech dragon is balancing the use of tech to redefine and modify rather than to simply substitute a pen and paper for a computer for example #edu5213SBU#edtechchat
A2 My baddest Dragon is lack of adequate Bandwidth. Followed by the usual suspects "Got Chromebooks but can't connect to the Internet", "That's how we do it", "There's no money in the budget" #edtechchat
A3 - Time, effort, knowledge of what is out there. These are my main stumbling blocks. However, with good strategy and working with my fellow teachers, hopefully these can be overcome. #edtechchat
A3 Some dragons I can think of are when the internet goes out, not so great wifi at my school, and a lack of working devices for my students to use. #edu5213SBU#edtechchat
A3: I don't really have any edtech dragons, just wish I was 1:1 with technology so I could experiment with more #edtech tools. If I had to pick one, it would be when technology is just used to make digital worksheets. #edtechchat#EDUC5359
A1: I think of magical, mysterious, fiction, good and bad, strong. Also, not to mention they always make me think of Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings:)#edtechchat#edu5213SBU
#edu5213SBU#edtechchat We just went 1:1, but most students don't have internet at home, we need to add a "Wi-Fi Wednesday" or something in the evenings.
@nathan_stevens A3- 🐉 to my technology world would be the “easier” or main stream platforms being used in multiple classes causing students to be burnt out/off task, the cost of different programs and the bandwidth availability #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A3: Impeding PE would be taking away activity time. However, we certainly still utilize tech and integrate it in as many ways as possible. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A3 I create innovative content - so engaging with other possible users and understand what will play with a wider audience are my dragons. :) #EdTechChat
A3- A lack of resources is the "biggest dragon" within my district. I also find that time is another "dragon". There never seems to be enough of it! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
You don't need 1:1 for this. Students work well in small groups / 1:2/1:3 . Build your practice so when/if the time comes you have the pedagogy / lessons / activities. #edtechchat
A3 - Finding a balance between teaching students how to use tech, monitoring proper use of the tech, and when we need to be unplugged #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
Completely agree, students get lazy with technology so at hand. They need to be taught to differentiate between what is quick and what is accurate and actually useful. #edu5213SBU#edtechchat
Don’t let that dragon bother you too much. Substitution is one part of the process. Develop it further after that. Spreadsheets were a replacement for a paper task but then morphed into more over time. #edtechchat
A3 Not being 1:1 is a big dragon in my room. Trying to motivate reluctant students and having enough time is another big dragon of mine. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
Quizizz is fantastic! If you love Kahoot you’ll really enjoy quizizz!! Students go at their own pace, the questions are mixed up to allow for less cheating and you can add in memes. Those are just a few of the perks! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
Q4: My students loved taking notes on GoodNotes on their iPads. They created some amazing sketchnotes and C-style notes with annotated sketches just using GoodNotes. They also created posters/ads/etc. on GoodNotes. #edtechchat
A3) Outdated mindsets. Thinking of tech as a toy, or in 2018, as optional. Approaching tech immediately from the context of negatives rather than possibilities. #EdTechChat
A4: My students loved taking notes on GoodNotes on their iPads. They created some amazing sketchnotes and C-style notes with annotated sketches just using GoodNotes. They also created posters/ads/etc. on GoodNotes. #edtechchat
#edtechchat students constantly on phones not attending to lessons, using phone apps to get around doing work like the math app that allows them to solve algebraic equations without doing any of the work. means @ test time they are lost and Ts blamed for lack of student success
My dragon would be the need to share technolgy with a grade level. We have a chromebook cart to share, but its hard when older grades test. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A4- Google classroom, I also love prodigy for math, kids love it and you can assign certain standards based on individual needs. Assigned tasks pop in with the games so kids want to play and progress! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
Hey #edtechchat -Alex #techdir from NJ checking in. Coming up for air after working on new faculty laptops. One more piece of software to go, but needed to stop to eat!
A4) Google and all the add ons to it. I just keep learning more and more each year in professional development. Would LOVE to become Google Certified! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A4 This one will probably sound a bit of a cliche, but Powerpoint is my go-to tool for image editing and manipulation. Beyond that, I would say @googledrive is by far the best resource in my toolkit for its sharing and file conversion capabilities. #edtechchat
A4 Google apps seem to be underestimated by those who haven’t tried them. I’m sold! #edtechchat
Also, @Flipgrid is proving invaluable to my online course this summer term. Students are able to interact with each other in a way they never have before. #conversechat
Quizizz is fantastic! If you love Kahoot you’ll really enjoy quizizz!! Students go at their own pace, the questions are mixed up to allow for less cheating and you can add in memes. Those are just a few of the perks! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A3. Time! Having enough time to manage everything is difficult. Also, anything requiring technology doesn't come easy for me. I have a difficult time understanding all of the ins and outs. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A4: This year some of my students delved into Scratch for coding. They loved it and inspired many of their other classmates to learn. We even coded a poem we wrote using Scratch! #edtechchat#EDUC5359
A4 Your average web browser. I author cross platform interactive content with HTML, JS and WebGL. I also use these tools to create interactive presentations - it's far more powerful than PowerPoint. #EdTechCHat
I am a PE teacher so it lends itself nicely to a cool down time at the end of class. I know classroom teachers could also benefit from having students utilize breathing techniques and listing to a meditation recording at various points in the day! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A4- Google, all things google. I was reluctant at first, but I just keep learning and find new ways to utilize it in the classroom (and beyond) #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
Jamie- do it! Being Google Certified is something every educator should do. I’m working on Trainer this summer. GCE1&2 are done. I’m here is you have any questions. #edtechchat
#edtechchat there are solutions but if they are not consistently enforced across the board sometimes its not worth the fight. when parents are texting their children in the middle of class and telling the front office secretaries oh s/he knows I am up I just texted them
What I love is how quick I can make a great formative assessment from other quizzes that are already made! Nice tool to have when I’m out of creative ideas. A little friendly competition is wonderful too! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU

Oooo this sounds very interesting. I have recently began using Google for as many things possible and I am so excited to learn more! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
We use blogger to blog daily and I wish it was easier to use with pictures and videos from the iPad. Anybody have a blogging tool they love? #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A2 My mind and my creativity. I am much more a builder of tools than a user of tools. OK, I use a text editor to type the code, and sometimes an ide, but it's not necessary. #EdTechChat
Tools & how they work together- I read #xplap by @mrmatera & gamified my online tech course. Ss complete quests to earn coins(points) I use Google Sites for directions and content. #googleclassroom for submitting work and @Flipgrid for weekly checkins and discussion. #edtechchat
A5 An #OER information, organization and authoring portal for Texas (and others that follow the same standards). For example, allow HS history teachers to collaboratively author OER content that fits their courses. #EdTechCHat
Q5 A tool to survey students interests and combined that with their reading abilities to create personalized book lists for each student! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A5 It would need video collaboration, file sharing, and assessment capabilities integrated into it. Finally, unlimited storage and encryption features to secure users information. #edtechchat
This is why credentials expire- to show we all have to keep current. I think the GcE is only good for 2 years (too long really in the tech world #edtechchat

Taylor, I found an app or site while doing my app review assignment! It did exactly those things. I'll look back and see what it was. :) #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A5- easy to use/create, time saving, humor, music and pre loaded equations/problems that can be interchanged easily. Coming up/typing math equations or finding math related pictures/ real world problems is time consuming! #edu5213SBU#edtechchat
A5: I would love a tool that would be easy to document goals that students made and share them with students and family. New ELA curriculum is big on goal setting. I want my students and families to be motivated and involved. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
I am interested in learning more about calm the app in my kindergarten classroom! I think my students could really benefit from this after a special activity or recess to get them ready to learn. Thanks for sharing! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
I used Google Suite starting last year and I honestly don't know how I went without it so long! I love the ability to share and access anywhere. I am learning new things everyday. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU

A5: I think I would like recording capability within most apps. I believe it helps students understand on a deeper level when they have to explain their thinking and rationale. #edtechchat#EDUC5359
A5: Hmmm, I am thinking about a tool that I could just talk into and it would organize all my data, evaluations, daily notes, and IEP paperwork!
#edtechchat#edu5213sbu
Oh girl I hear ya! I was the exact same way....until I eventually moved to the dark side. lol Now I am never going back! Google rocks! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
I would love to become Google certified. So much to learn about! I am getting more used to using all that it has to offer for educators. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A5 - It must be user friendly and purposeful, allow for collaboration on all levels, and be able to evolve with the swinging pendulum of education...oh, and fun for the kiddos #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
To each his/her own. I see your point, but the exam was a lot more application than one might think. I’m big on critical thinking and hate it when products are pushed without regard for cognition. I was impressed #edtechchat

I need to clean my up. I have a school account and personal and have some saved in one spot versus the other. Just need to spend some time organizing! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A6- showing them the possibilities and being patient with them. I have a few older teachers in my building and it helps to take some time on a PD day to walk them through it. Also requiring it to be used. If you don't use it, you loose it. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A5: I would love a tool that would be easy to document goals that students made and share them with students and family. New ELA curriculum is big on goal setting. I want my students and families to be motivated and involved. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A6: I think they have to see it work for someone they respect. They need to see kids excited and the value in it. If you just push it on them they will resist #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A6: I think most people are willing to learn; they are just scared of the unknown. I believe modeling and coaching a colleague through a new edtech tool is the best way. #Edtechchat#EDUC5359
A6: Just using the tech and showing them the possibilities through peer teacher observations. Also, once the students start talking about what is happening in other classes, they become a catalyst to helping push the "troll" along. #edtechchat
A6 show them how to use the tool, allowing them to work with it while also being able to ask questions. Show them all of the possibilities and examples of awesome outcomes others have had! #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
#edtechchat#edu5213SBU A6- start slow. Tell them how it will help them and their students. Then show them how to actually use the new #edtech. Not just telling them to try it out themselves.
A5 Teach the trolls, show them how useful the tool will be in the long run. Do it kindly and celebrate with them when they learn a new skill.
#edtechchat#ed5213sbu
You have totally got this! The dark side can be really good sometimes. lololol I would suggest starting with Google Docs (it is similar enough to Word). It would be a great place to start. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A6- We need to be patient with the Ts that are apprehensive. Show them the benefits and it will shine through with the Ss success. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A6- invite them into our classrooms to witness how engaged, excited and challenged our students are. Have them work on creating and using a form of technology with you so they become less troll and more open minded. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
A6 I think showing the troll how they can make the new tool work for them helps to make them more willing. If it just looks like more work, they will dismiss it.#edu5213SBU#edtechchat
A6 Through demonstrated value added. How does a tool (learning resources) help to meet the learning need? Trolls need to experience the "What's in it for me effect" when witnessing engaged learners looking forward to further exploring topics on their own. #edtechchat
A6 - Be kind, patient, and respectful to their perspective. Usually this stems from fear/anxiety over change. Find out what the troll's strengths are, and figure out a way to incorporate that into PD/training #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
Thanks to @nathan_stevens for creatively moderating the chat. Also, all of you here sharing their thoughts and ideas tonight. Be safe and have a great Summer! #edtechchat
A6. By being patient with the trolls and talking about the amazing benefits that some tools have to offer. Also, offering to assist the trolls with the first steps. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
I have not tried it. I have looked into it some but haven't had a chance to create an account and venture around. Thank you for the suggestion! I will do some digging! Having a resource like that would be a game changer. #edtechchat#edu5213SBU
