  • megan_hacholski Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1: I want my students to know, right away, that their learning matters beyond the four walls of our classroom. My plan is to start a class blog, where they interact with each other (I'll have 6th, 7th & 8th Ss) and w/ people all over the world! #waledchat
  • MrPStrunk - Moderator Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1: I want to improve in student conferencing. Part of that I would like to spend praising all the student growth I need. Ss should think they are in trouble because they are meeting 1:1 with a T! #waledchat
  • jenchitmon Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1 I'd like to celebrate & showcase my Ss & their successes not only the first few weeks of school but throughout the school year in a digital medium (that preferably doesn't require parents to sign up for anything extra). I have ideas, but what does my #PLN recommend? #waledchat
  • NowakRo Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1 This year, I plan on making celebrations a daily part of our routine. No set time...I like surprises. I already have songs, dances, sound effects. Every amazing step needs to be celebrated. I plan to bring the energy, to bring the fun, the kindness, the gratitude. #waledchat

Whitney from Eastern NC here #waledchat! I teach 4th and 5th grade science!
  • Hell2Teach Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1 Well, I don’t do anything “special” to celebrate students’ success per se - I don’t do treats or rewards (extrinsic is not my thing) but I do smiles, hugs, high fives, compliments, constructive feedback, etc. Does that count? #waledchat
    • NowakRo Jul 26 @ 9:05 PM EDT

A1 A great way to celebrate learning is to have students identify classmates to support, push, and inspire them. Here’s an article about how to do the activity: https://t.co/y2kYJvCFCc #WALedchat
  • MrsHopp126 Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A1: I plan on celebrating student success in the first few weeks by including a review "boot camp" of math skills before diving into my units. That way students gain confidence in their abilities and feel ready to learn new skills. #waledchat
    In reply to @NowakRo
  • MikeUbbens Jul 26 @ 9:06 PM EDT

    In reply to @mrbgilson
  • Eric_Carlin Jul 26 @ 9:07 PM EDT
A1: Start with a positive. Hit principal pride certificates (positve phone calls home) from the get go, challenge Ss to a game of kicball, and start asking what their ideal school looks like, and a few epic green screen videos w/ @renathunderhawk #waledchat
  • mrbgilson Jul 26 @ 9:07 PM EDT
A1: most of the kids I work with will be new to me. I plan to make a big deal about almost all things. Kids need to know what we value and need to know what we value is them. #Waledchat

#Waledchat - Students come into my middle school math class with so much anxiety about math, it is really disheartening. In the first few weeks, I want to establish a #growthmindset and make the Ss comfortable and get over the "I'm bad at math" curse.
