Howdy #cuechat and @jcorippo- Ooooh! đ¤ Love the topic! Pam Rabin from San Diego & @SanDiego_CUE , SDUSD Instructional Resource Teacher & all around Curriculum Geek Extraordinaire.
A1: Storytelling and consistent images make the difference! Here's a planner I created for students and teachers to use...Let me know your thoughts #cuechathttps://t.co/fHrKo2P7wr
I love a charismatic presenter. Someone whose personality comes through and they seem at ease guiding the discussion. Also...tell me something I don't know! If it's not an original thought, then at least have your own spin & something new, not just regurgitation #cuechat
A1: Presenter is enthusiastic, presentation is engaging, has examples of how to use in my classroom, gives us time to try it out and is there to assist. #cuechat
A1: Interactive, allows time for questions, considers all learners in audience, shares successes and failures, excited and honest energy #keepitreal#failup#cuechat
A1: I think itâs about stage presence - how the presenter engages. Whatâs on the screen can be minimal & direct us along as we engage w/ the presenter. #cuechat
#cuechat Becca, Instructional Coach at K-5 School @sanmarcostigers just joining in! A1: Love someone who is passionate about their topic, has REAL examples, takeaways I can use, and def not trying to sell me something ;)
A1) Anything that is simple enough for the teacher to implement right away. Also, something that approaches learning from a different perspective
#CUECHAT
YES! I love sandbox time, especially in a traditional conference setting. Time to challenge the status quo a bit. I always appreciate think time, especially if I'm given lots to explore! #cuechat
Agreed! At @TaraMartinEDU#BookSnaps session at #CUE18 I LOVED how she gave us time to try it out and had a team with her circulating through attendees helping where needed. It was great! #cuechat

#cuechat A1: I think a great edu Preso inspires AND gives techniques and models teachers can use to actually improve our craft. If I just want to be inspired I can watch a movie. :)
YES! I love sandbox time, especially in a traditional conference setting. Time to challenge the status quo a bit. I always appreciate think time, especially if I'm given lots to explore! #cuechat
Here's a pro tip from a seasoned vet: if you're incorporating sandbox time that means exploring links, have a backup plan in case the WiFi is down... #justsayin#cuechat
A1: Centered around pedagogy, w/the tool as the supporting actor. Builds the WHY before the WHAT & HOW. Gives examples, time to explore, and has an implementation plan #CUEChat
A1 I think a good prezo depends upon the audience and purpose. Am I presenting a task/protocol or trying to inspire? Those prezos look different
#cuechat
for sure, turn and talk time can be a great backup plan for tech issues, especially when in most conferences you may not know who you're sitting next to so you can collaborate more #cuechat
A2: collaborative activities and that cool augmented reality stuff I keep seeing could be a cool way to pull peeps in and spark a learning experience #cuechat
A2 - ask for audience insights â donât even use slides â have people group up into smaller groups â Donât use the time for marketing #CUECHAT
#cuechat A2: Participation from group is great. Letting Ts be the Ss to try out new ideas and think how they can use in own rooms. @PearDeck is awesome for this as well
Always appreciate short clips that support the message, push it further, provide context to the messageâŚ
Get them talking, sharing, collaborating, working, playing.
#cuechat
Make 'em laugh. Not like stand up comedy, but be REAL. Share a funny quip or comment, appear to be human. Talk w/ your attendees as they arrive, introduce yourself. I had chocolate on my front table & my opening slide had an arrow saying "come get chocolate & say hello" #cuechat
True story: my turn & talk at #CUE18 when the WiFi bottomed out & I needed to switch over to my downloaded stuff was "turn & tell your neighbor where you went for lunch today" LOL. #cuechat
A2) When the presenter ask the attendees for opinions, thoughts or suggestions. It empowers everyone and gets attendees REALLY thinking. Like suddenly, I think I'm gonna try this in my room cuz I thought about it hard enough to share at a conference!
#CUECHAT
A2: Having a discussion with the attendees instead of talking at them, show a video clip from your class doing what ever you are presenting on, engage them through real classroom examples and failures. #cuechat
A2: making connections with attendees, have attendees connect with each other. was in a session with @kat_goyette where she had everyone write twitter handles on the whiteboard so we could all make those connections #cuechat
#cuechat A2: Participation from group is great. Letting Ts be the Ss to try out new ideas and think how they can use in own rooms. @PearDeck is awesome for this as well
Play is as much a cognitive space, as it is a physical space. We need to try to spend more time playing in the cognitive spacesâŚwhere we tinker with ideas. Our mental garage. #cuechat
Knowing audience is a good point - ppl who submit same session to many conferences need to adapt the content for the ppl attending. Know their purpose for attending. #CUEChat
A2: Give Ts time to collaborate w/each other throughout the presentation, not just at the end. Give time to play with new ideas/concepts/tools. Have them share their ah-ha moments in real time. #cuechat
On the topic of prizes...start by letting people know if they stick around till the end you'll be giving away a prize! I've done stickers taped to the underside of chairs, @Flipgrid Classroom license, and other little things. #cuechat
A3 - Have your session ready to go at least 10 minutes before it starts so youâre already chatting with people getting to know names laughing feeling out the audience finding out information about people so When people walk in they will be already engaged #CUECHAT
A3: Survey of where everyone is at, helps you know where beginners are to make sure you go back and check on them, also helps you find "experts" that you may be able to lean on for extra hands #cuechat
A2: My fave exit activity is to write down what you will implement in next week, add your contact info, & trade w/someone you donât know. Follow up w/each other as encouragement/support #CUEChat
A3 cont: I always have fun, upbeat music playing before a session. And I love @lhighfill 's "session before the session" where she plays fun YouTube videos and chats about them w/ the audience. #cuechat
A3: music to start...theme...competition...story that is meaningful...authentic presence...connections to people as individuals #cuechat#cuerockstar of course
A3) I try and circle the room and get to know where people are from as they are coming in. Shake hands, fist bump, and high five everyone. It's basically my classroom self #cuechat
A2) Presentations I appreciate get me to jump in right away with a learner experience, then debrief with collaborative discussions around pedagogy and how to's. #cuechat
#CUECHAT A3: Something funny...preferably a video. Jokes are usually laughed at...but only because people want to be nice. Get me laughing right away and I'll probably pay attention!
A3) I wish a presenter would start off the presentation with like a one minute dance. LOL. Never seen that yet. Don't even know if it's practical... ya know... I'm in my world....
#CUECHAT
Oh my gosh yes! I have the biggest fangirl moments at conferences when I get to meet someone I follow on Twitter and it's even better when they recognize me! #cuechat
A3 - Get to know people before the session so that you can name drop them into the session â it makes them feel important â itâs spotlights them as a leader or an expert and it makes the session about everyone and not you #CUECHAT
A3: I love playing the @HamiltonMusical when folks are walking in. I walk around & chat with folks before I start. Sometimes I start with a bit of @GoNoodle. #cuechat
A0: Eddie Simoneau, EdTech Coordinator, @CVUnified, @CahuillaCUE Prez. Sorry Iâm late. Iâll try to jump in an out tonight. Good to see everyone! #cuechat
you never know where people are at, just because you planned a middle level preso doesn't mean that they are there. I think the best presenters can adjust on the fly and still give a killer preso #cuechat
A4: I mouse my way through. I need to invest in a clicker :) I'm not sure I could animate it and give up the control over the presentation just YET #cuechat
A4 - Long time ago in the early 2000âs I would ask someone in the audience to advance my slides and give them a door prize now if I have slides I am really surprised but there are some wonderful presenters out there that use slides so effectively and Iâm in awel #CUECHAT
A3: Pre-start I like to play some Motown and mingle and chat with folks. Then early in the session I like to give some network pair share time around the session topic for people to meet. Networking is the best part of any session! #cuechat
A3: I tell the story of how my favorite teachers/presenters were the ones who let me know about them personally so I always begin by talking about my kids and passions. #CUECHAT
A4 Depends on the context. Slides aren't always the best way to present, *especially* if you're popping in and out of them. Docs, a Site, Thinglink... all good.
#cuechat
I ordered an inexpensive clicker off Amazon before #cue18 and felt super leveled-up. I love carefully crafting my animations to make my slides more engaging & meaningful. #cuechat
Want to level up your teaching skills? Want to meet some of the raddest teachers anywhere? You should be at the hands-on camps that are at the core of the #WeAreCUE edu-phenomena! #cuechat#WeAreCUE
#CueChat A4: Click a mouse..... I have always wanted a remote clicker...but never purchased one. Animate seems like a lot of work for the outcome. I'm more of a facts-in-bullet-point-form guy....not as flowery as @AimeeTatangelo (Ready for #UPMACUL???
A4: Use wireless clicker usually. But I also like presenting with a Google Site which takes participants to choices of activities...and provides ongoing resources.
#cuechat#giftthatkeepsongiving
A4: I will either use a clicker or if its a preso where I'm exploring a tool I will click through because I'm probably going in and out of the preso anyways #cuechat
A2: When attendees walk in, I great them with stickers. I guide them toward a sticker buffet by the entrance. I also like to shake hands and give personal introductions #cuechat
A4: I like to use Keynote and control slides through the Keynote app on my phone so I can be mobile. I donât like to stand at the front of the room so Iâm always pacing through the aisles or tables #cuechat
A4: I LOVE using @nearpod 2 present. It's engaging, no need 4 projector, use my phone, keeps me moving & close 2 my audience, audience uses own devices, interactive accountability slides, allows note taking and downloadable slides, built-in collaboration, embeds slides. #cuechat
A1: You know you've reached people when they tweet out your quotes, pictures of you and they stick around to chat. Great presos are image heavy coupled with authentic story telling. #CUECHAT
#cuechat use a Hyperdocs format as your presentation. Present some. Let attendees lose to learn and play individually... Then have stopping points to regroup and discuss....Repeat.
Yes! This will save me from having to download Slides as PPT then âopening withâ Keynote and saving as Keynote file đ so canât wait to try it out live! #cuechat
Yes David - you start at 150mph and never let off the gas pedal until the time is up! (And even then, we tend to stick around a few more minutes!!!) #CUEChat

@DCulberhouse, @CampsCrusaders, @jcorippo
A2: Play âPD Music by Hans Tullmannâ on Spotify. Have instructions on the screen to get the people to the resource/ slides so theyâre locked and loaded! #cuechathttps://t.co/QrgD6SuSjI
And itâs easy to set up embedded videos and other animations to play on demand when using Keynote (or PP) over Slides. Plus, always good to not have to be internet-dependent when presenting #CUEChat
Hopefully I can pull that off Thursday at #LEAD3. Have a Preparing Students for the Future session with a whole lot of new content and clips. Should be fun. #cuechat

A5: Ts arenât just listening to content. They are also watching for presentation ideas. The entire experience is a learning moment, and not just the information being provided #CUEChat
A5 Educators expect practicality. I've presented at science conferences where you're just presenting your research. Teachers expect to be able to apply something the next day. #cuechat
Educators are a tough crowd. Teachers are the worst students, and if it's an EdTech conference like CUE you gotta at least appear to know your stuff and have something good to bring to the table to get anyone's attention. Also, bring chocolate. Always. And stickers. #cuechat
A5: Ts arenât just listening to content. They are also watching for presentation ideas. The entire experience is a learning moment, and not just the information being provided #CUEChat
A5: It follows the pattern of prophets not being appreciated in their own home town. When I present in district, eyes roll and it's "here he goes again". At conferences, the same presos are embraced. #GoFigure#CUECHAT
A5 - The ripple of your session will go farther than you ever imagined you have no idea how far and because of that you canât waste a moment of their time because you are possibly impacting so much #CUECHAT
#CUEChat A5: I think it's bc most presenters are/were classroom teachers and we can learn from them about their style, how they engage, how the pres flows, etc. Hopefully people are there bc they WANT to learn something from you! They chose to see yours!
A4) We want teachers out in front of the class, walking around the room, engaging students. Investing in something that gets you moving while you present is not only more interesting but is good modeling. #cuechat
A5) Presenting for educators are different because these are people who affect the future.. attending a PD doesn't even get us a pay raise. We collaborate so we can have a better future when we retire. Ya know, cuz our kids... they are our future
#CUECHAT
A4: I prefer to be away from the computer unless Iâm showing them something. Slides are a launchpad into my #GoogleClassroom assignments, where tasks keep my learners busy and me roaming, helping them out #cuechat
A5 - Educators can be such a tough audience â many of them could be teaching the session â many of them are fatigued and need energy and renewed vision #CUECHAT
This is so true. I've started picking sessions based mostly on the presenters for this reason. I'm there to pick up presenting style ideas almost just as much, if not more, than the content itself. #cuechat
A5: Ts arenât just listening to content. They are also watching for presentation ideas. The entire experience is a learning moment, and not just the information being provided #CUEChat
A5 - The ripple of your session will go farther than you ever imagined you have no idea how far and because of that you canât waste a moment of their time because you are possibly impacting so much #CUECHAT
A5: There's an added pressure for the Ts to be able to take back and apply what they learned the next day, but it's awesome to know that what I share will reach further than my classroom walls. #cuechat
A5: At Ed conferences educators are looking at the whole presentation as well as things they can take back immediately. Especially for teachers itâs less about theories and more best practices proven strategies #cuechat
A5: Educators are used to boring meetings and training x10 verses reg folk. They need to SEE and EXPERI NCE #21stCentury Learning. Humans must be engaged to learnâ Educators even more so. Donât waste their time. #cuechat
A5: It follows the pattern of prophets not being appreciated in their own home town. When I present in district, eyes roll and it's "here he goes again". At conferences, the same presos are embraced. #GoFigure#CUECHAT
A5: As an attendee that is not a teacher, I can definitely see a difference when a teacher presents vs someone who is not a teacher at a conference. It's a whole new level of energy that I love and teachers are always engaging! #cuechat
Yes - when people ask me which sessions to attend, I pick based on presenters and not content. I can tell my staff which presenters they will best connect with, which is key to learning #CUEChat
Yes! Same here. You canât be a profit in your own land. At home I think people get tired and say hereâs Eddie on his soapbox again haha. I think a presentation at home also tends to be a lot more content specific than conference presentation #cuechat
To be honest â about the prophet in his own city â I think sometimes Iâm not as up and enthusiastic and wow wow wow to my teachers as I am when I present at conferences â to be honest #CUECHAT
#cuechat This is exactly what I teach my students about presenting! Make it a visual story book, then TELL the story, and ENGAGE your audience..draw them into the story!
A6: My process is MESSY. I love to start off with a slide theme that is easy on the eyes but also interesting. I change a bunch of things around until I'm happy with the order and then I add in real pictures, clip art, or Bitmojis to make it interesting. #cuechat
A6: Usually the night before or morning of, but I pick and choose from old presos, add GIFs, memes and witty images. I add stuff that will jog my memory while up there and spurs authentic story telling and spontaneous quotes. #CUECHAT#alwaysinbeta#cuetangclan
#CUECHAT A6: Collaborate with someone better than you (For me..it's @AimeeTatangelo ) Be excited about your topic and show the good, the bad, and the ugly. Share your successes and your pitfalls. Engage and interact with your audience! Get them INVOLVED in their learning!
I revise and edit my presentation several times, and PRACTICE it so I know it like the back of my hand so it comes across as more of a conversation than me reading from slides. The art is making it seem casual and not too rehearsed. #cuechat
A6; Know my audience. Pack it w/images. Variety of mediums: video, word, movement, audience activity. Make it relevant. Give more resources for deeper dive. Have alternate paths based on vibe #CUEChat
A6: I can feedback on the idea first, then the outline, the the preso draft. I go through multiple drafts till it looks and sounds good #cuechat USE YOUR #PLN for this
Honesty is the best policy. To have an #eduhero in your corner who can offer brutally honest inspiration & critiques with compassion is the key to a T's success. #cuechat
A6 - I try to show authentic pictures from my class or other peoples classrooms- Good educational quotes and as many links to other great edu-leaders on Twitter as possible #CUECHAT And if I canât cite the image or the quote, I wonât use it
A3. I like to engage my participants. Find out their why and share mine. I try and tell a story of when I used the tool/strategy in my own class. #cuechat
Want to level up your teaching skills? Want to meet some of the raddest teachers anywhere? You should be at the hands-on camps that are at the core of the #WeAreCUE edu-phenomena! #cuechat#WeAreCUE
A6: I am a preso #nerd I start with a quote related to the topic use minimal words, high-quality pics, bring in personal photos as needed to relate to topic and gifs! - and then I review it what feels like 100x to ensure it's perfect! #cuechat
A6: Since Iâm mostly presenting with a team member, we always collaborate in Google Slides. You definitely need clear structure and purpose. Layer in nice blend of text and images (gifs add a nice touch). Have built in network/process time and let them create if possible #cuechat
#CUECHAT A6.1: I like to start by getting ideas down on slides.....I use it as my outline. Then I add and take away as the presentation takes shape. PRO-TIP: Hide slides instead of deleting them...they might come back as your presentation evolves.
A4. It kills my gifs (and I am the gif master), but I love presenting with @peardeck. I use my iPad to control my slides and get feedback while I present. Plus I can walk around and teach from the middle. #cuechat
I am enthusiastic and I think thatâs what hurts it for me. Sometimes I need to dial it back a bit I think. I just get so excited though haha! #CUEChat
A6 - I designed my own slide backgrounds and refuse to use a purchased or found on the Internet background and Iâve taught my students to do the same #CUECHAT
#cuechat Model good teaching! I try to work in lots of good nonexplicit pedagogy...Just using them along the way, like built in video timers, 3, 2, 1 feedback, Head heart feet...little teaching tricks that arent part of the prez, but teachers can take with them.
A6) Within my district, it's grounding myself in a real student need, finding the best approach where integration makes sense, talking to a bunch of my peeps in classrooms, content experts, & attempting to put together an experience I'd want to be in. #cuechat
Sometimes a mentor figure walks into the room and who are we not to listen? In the fall she did one of the most engaging PDs I'd ever been to, #tookUsToSchool#cuechat
When trying to create awareness, especially with future work, I feel like I have to do more talkingâŚbut for the real deep systems work, moving away from that model, to engaging deeper collaboration through bigger and better questions. Facilitating and designing convos #cuechat
.@HansTullmann If you have training list in advance, send a preview email, check for understanding, them post survey to follow up #cuechat Also can follow on #Twitter
A6cont. I always share a way dialed-down version of my slides w/ the audience. That way they have the resources but not the magic and will still listen to me instead of clicking through my slides as I talk. #cuechat
Want to level up your teaching skills? Want to meet some of the raddest teachers anywhere? You should be at the hands-on camps that are at the core of the #WeAreCUE edu-phenomena! #cuechat#WeAreCUE
Only once in my life did I present with a scripted presentation and to be honest I think itâs the worst presentation I ever gave ever ever ever ever #cuechat
So this #cuechat just cost me $24.99 on @amazon I ordered a new clicker! :) Can't wait to use it on Friday at the #goopen summit where I am, wait for it....presenting!
A6.2) Outside my district, I think I psych myself out and don't think I have new or innovative things to send in as proposals for CUE, ISTE, etc. At one level, I know that is probably not true...but I know I do that. Something to work on! #cuechat
#CUECHAT A6.1: I like to start by getting ideas down on slides.....I use it as my outline. Then I add and take away as the presentation takes shape. PRO-TIP: Hide slides instead of deleting them...they might come back as your presentation evolves.
I send emails after - I wait a few days, then recap content, provide resources, & give feedback survey. I wait so that ppl have time to use the tool/concept before I send more resources #CUEChat
A6: I have an #AppyHour checklist I use for each PD I give. Lotâs of forms to update and content to plan. Itâs quite the endeavor. A lot of these ideas come from @alicekeeler#cuechat#TOSAchat#kerncue
A6: 1) Identify an interesting need and some solutions; 2) create a way to connect with Ts in the room 3) Meet their needs 4) Let them play and connect #cuechat
Donât give me too much credit usually just a couple of lines maybe some shapes couple of drop shadows â I really enjoy paint shop Pro and it makes creating slide backgrounds easy #cuechat
A6: Ponder "need" I gauge on Twitter from other Ts, chatting with my #PLF, understand my preso is not set in stone & adjustable during preso (beauty of @nearpod), use T feedback from previous sessions, include Ss work, & share from my heart & experience. #cuechat
Presenting is not providing a canned program, but sometimes it feels like that. I appreciate the people that can move in any directionâŚthey show up not just with a depth of knowledge, but a breadth of knowledge that can allow the conversations to flow in any direction. #cuechat
A6) I create a "thick slide" so attendees can get all the info they need before the session. Everyone's time is valuable and I don't mind if teachers decide to go to another session. Cuz that's what I want from the presenters when I attend conferences
#CUECHAT
Thanks everyone. I know I joined late but it was fun and a great topic! Always nice to learn new pro tips from the masters! Have a good week everyone and thanks Jon for modding! @jcorippo#cuechat
I get so much positive feedback from those emails - people like to know they have a connection and that there is support out there. Itâs simple to set up a Google form shortlink on first slide to get that info and follow up. #CUEChat
Thank you, @jcorippo !
You know I only decided to join cuz you were moderating it!
But I think I will be participating more now. :) I like the ppl here.
#CUECHAT
A6 part deux. I also plan my presos with classroom teachers and have them present as much as possible. Major disadvantage not being in the classroom is lack of cred from classroom teachers. #cuechat
