Jenna from Lake County, EdTech/STEM Specialist. I've got my afternoon cuppa & I'ma ready to go!!
-
Hi . I am a student in college. Teachers should use feedback to see how they are doing and change teaching methods if needed.
-
A1 Reflection is essent in journey of being a lifelong learner & educ. Have 2 knw how 2 best serve Ss https://t.co/zJ6bI1DLzN

-
Hi ! Becky from Baltimore, MD; PhD Student in education at Johns Hopkins. Excited to talk feedback tonight!
-
Welcome! Be sure to include A1 and so on when responding to q's!
-
-
A1: Feedback should guide teachers to personalize their professional development and learning. https://t.co/4308g2lS58
-
Thank you! I try not to miss a TEDEdChat!!
-
Teachers need information, how they teach, how students see them. Teachers also need to learn. https://t.co/acRetB3KHJ
-
Absolutely, students are not the only learners in our schools! :)
-
Def! Learning from great feedback helps in this continued learning.
-
Chris from England life long exponent & recently involved in teaching health promotion.
-
-
A1. Data-driven decisions are without emotion and easier to modify than their counterparts. https://t.co/qwZaFo4o0S
-
-
This is a great point!! I never thought of it this way!
-
-
-
A1: Allows leadership the chance to see what teachers value in a PD setting.
-
Hiya looking forward to tonight’s
-
It never ends. what can I tell Ts who say they already know how to teach and can't get much from prof dev?
-
Great question! I think choice in PD & allowing Ts to give PD on topics of expertise are 2 ways to create more buy-in.
-
A1 agree also easier to define objectives to aid moving "forward"
-
Voice and Choice aren't just for kidlets ;)
-
A1: give us a direction and the a road map to follow to find greatness.
-
it helps them improve the way they teach, but also improve as individuals! Positive feedback will give them strength
-
Big key here is 2 ask them at what point to do think they learned it all. When is learning not relevant? https://t.co/40YSdIJmd5
-
-
It never ends. what can I tell Ts who say they already know how to teach and can't get much from prof dev?
-
How can a teacher think you can stop learning? This is the exact opposite of our job! https://t.co/lzvq04akc2
-

Say it like it is, yo! https://t.co/hGfisAucQ8

-
A1: feedback is what helps everyone become better educators. Without effective feedback, how do we know what areas to focus on?
-
-
Great point, but I think it definitely does happen in our schools sometimes. It's all about mindset!
-
I cant't agree more. As a designer for Teacher PD, reflective practice is a key feature in all my programs.
-
Right! We all can share expertise. I like that idea: buy-in. Thanks.
-
Hi! Happy to be here tonight! I'm a French teacher in Montreal (Canada) - not use to chat in English!! ;)
-
A1 feedback can be negative & this can be demoralising even with supportive structures in place
-
Q2 coming up in a moment!
-
Effective feedback allows educators to identify variables and make adjustments along the way https://t.co/fSg0omnVOA
-
T's set the example for Ss. T's should show the value of https://t.co/Ka4FJpRD4R
-
-
It never ends. what can I tell Ts who say they already know how to teach and can't get much from prof dev?
-
-
We won't! "I don't want to know how to serve my Ss well", said NO AWESOME TEACHER, ever!
-
-
A1: I think it's interesting to think about how the feedback from educators can help outside orgs create prof dev tools.
-
Def. So, in what ways can negative feedback become constructive as we move towards growth in challenge areas?
-
A2: my first two years where I am now, I had a mentor program to go through. Constant feedback. It was very beneficial.
-
A1 Re: “people” are we including our Ss & as most of us are dual professionals does it inc these as well?
-
Welcome to the chat, Ruth :-)
-
-
I have received feedback at the end of my student teaching that helped me change some of my teaching methods and styles
-
Q2. Very seldom. Very...very seldom. It is almost always informal, and requested.
-
A2: Observations from Ts/Admin which were detailed, direct, and practical. 2-way communication. https://t.co/Ak7SYjvvtQ
-
LOL! A2, not Q2...my afternoon cuppa hasn't kicked in yet, LOL!
-
Burnout? when one is overwhelmed, I think the ability to learn diminishes.
-
Definitely, but still a barrier that we have to address, especially as admin
-
I guess if teachers starts with students as the focus, feedback is to inform teachers reflection.
-
I think that is HUGE! Impersonal PD/tons of initiatives-->burnout, becoming closed off to new ideas
-
And research agrees with you!
-
-
usually negative feedback is from one area so need to look at feedback from an holistic viewpoint
-
-
A1: Feedback provides opportunities 4 self-reflection leading to personal/professional growth https://t.co/yRGG5YhMe4
-
Ran into this lovely article:How Parents And Teachers Can Nurture The 'Quiet Power' Of Introverts
https://t.co/HokzOPqivJ
-
-
A1 When feedback comes with human connection, I receive it well.
-
In what ways did you get feedback?
-
YES, the process has to involve dialogue! Love it
-
A collaborative structure when feedback comes from peers and based on student artefacts.
-
this is why feedback needs to encompass all stakeholders as usually it just comes from managers & their …. 1/2
-
Gr8 point! Ss feedback is important too! They have a powerful voice, as they're directly impacted
-
I think that collaborative piece is so vital for feedback to be meaningful and well-received.
-
2way communication is key. Great that you're getting that.
-
A2 To me, student feedback is the most important feedback. Surveys work well.
-
A2: After providing a professional development that was optional to attend. 💙 self-motivated learners! https://t.co/cmVFNtrlu0
-
Thanks. I agree with research too! 😀 A2 the situation or context matters in giving feedback.
-
2/2 … view can be rather narrow and be guided by in fashion policies
-
We shld shift away from evaluative feedback to a developmental one.
-
Doing surveys with my first graders was my FAVORITE! So much insight!! (And adorable responses, too!)
-
yup! it may need some time to grow trust in the collaborative team though
-
-
First graders are funny little people.:) I used surveys w/ portfolios & S-led conferences.
-
Agree One can be a visionary and yet be held back by evaluative feedback
-
Right. Can't forget Ss voices. They're essential to our growth!
-
Hello, all. High School ELA/Theater graduate student here to soak up the knowledge!
-
-
-
Ss-led conferences are awesome. Haven't received much feedback from these, but would like it.
-
Hiya, Nick! Jump into the convo!
-
I completely agree -- there has to be a difference between feedback and high-risk accountability
-
A2: best way 2 get feedback is set time aside to chat. MAKING time shows the convo is valuable to all, not one sided
-
many times the class obs is seen as an evaluation. I emphasize that it should be about formation.
-
I had several observations by my mentor and Principal over those two years in which they saw lessons and activities.
-
And only ~realtionships~ make it possible for ppl to see observations as a tool for them.
-
A2 I get the best feedback from students at class meetings - they give great feedback once they realize you will really use it!
-
they mainly told me how to become better since I saw new in the building/district.
-
The mentor relationship is so helpful for feedback! Personal and practical!
-
I have great University supervisors observe me. I feel I get better everytime.
-
A2 from my S last year they liked the way I delivered the course which included off-site activities to aid their learning
-
and how did you feel about them? Did your pricpl do anything that you felt was super effective during those?
-
Relationships or "Critical Friendships", as I'm learning, are def key
-
-
That's great!! That's what feedback should be all about!
-
Ever have an opp to share personal reflections of your teaching?
-
"Critical Friendships," I've never heard that before - sounds about right ;)
-
I prepped student surveys and parent surveys for conf. Parents are key stakeholders who offer great feedback.
-
That's great. What type of feedback do you usually get from these observations?
-
The whole point of feedback in one tweet.
-
-
Let's push aside judgment and prioritize care and concern in PD and observations. https://t.co/cWMSJ8LrAQ
-
-
And only ~realtionships~ make it possible for ppl to see observations as a tool for them.
-
if we can shift our qn when we observe classrm - from how trs are teaching, to how r kids are learning
-
a3. I used Google Forms to collect data so that I could analyze it. Ss set goals and used Ggl Forms to monitor their own progress
-
-
Me either! I've been getting PD w Cross Career Learning Comm @ GSU. Great stuff!! Everyone needs this goodness.
-
if one wants to “stretch & challenge” Ss there has to be “out of the box” thinking and action
-
I've gotten really good feedback from my parents during this first round of conferences.
-
A3: We used weekly feedback sessions to act on one piece of feedback at a time w/ immediate reflection! https://t.co/lFA0qi2jBq
-
"Everyone needs this goodness" That's how I feel about and and and
-
I could not agree more!! Twitter and Voxer have changed everything for me!
-
I'd love to see the stuff that group is sharing w/you that you are getting the most out of, please ;)
-
A3: I have used feedback to let my Ss know about strengths/weaknesses/areas of improvement. I want them to always become better
-
Speaking of -- have you tried yet?
-
-
Social Media changes live! (Imagine what it could do for your kidlets) https://t.co/x3A3G2Jt4f
-
-
Speaking of -- have you tried yet?
-
This area has been the focus for observations in the UK for the past few years
-
-
A3 Ss abt wht opport for growth so that the nxt time we can contin our learning journey on the best path. https://t.co/qYku70sqcq
-
that I gave. I had a whole mentor book to reflect and share over those two years.
-
Feedback not only informs class instruction-it drives my instruction direction as often as possible
-
A3: Each week, my Ss gave feedback about our lessons and their learning. Continuous and individualized plans for growth!
-
I <3 that you say learning = journey because that is what it is all about! We take wrong turns & that's ok
-
precisely! When I observe I look at the students more often. Now time for my . Thanks
-
No but worth looking into - however my area can only go so far in the classrm
-
A1: by letting us know how to get better. Any teacher of quality always wants to know how to improve
-
-
taught my kidlets critical thinking and problem solving like nothing else before it.
-
A3: MOY Ts gave feedback on effectively implementing PBIS via Google Forms. It helped 2 plan next steps https://t.co/FUly2LJJvi
-
Right?! A new teacher model is needed. I feel like Cinderella ready for the ball BEFORE the dress.
-
So, so true!!!! https://t.co/cCh04evd69
-
-
A1: by letting us know how to get better. Any teacher of quality always wants to know how to improve
-
Good on you that is the way forward good luck with your
-
I've used feedback to adjust planning for data conversations and PD. Each convo ends w/ a 2 min or less survey.
-
A3 and these “tools” can simply be easier to use risk assessment documents esp important for org
-
You lead PD, meeting or conference & get feedback from T's about the meeting? Good idea. https://t.co/uI14h0p7t6
-
-

Have to run, but looking forward to reading through the rest of your answers later!! Thank you for your inspiration, all! :)

Right?! A new teacher model is needed. I feel like Cinderella ready for the ball BEFORE the dress.
-
-
-
of course! DM me your email address.
-
A4. by starting with Ss feedback. Students need to set goals, they need FB on things they care about.
-
Thanks! with I'm inspired to get feedback from both Ss and Ts and share it in a PD. For learning's sake.
-
Google forms alone are great. Add in and it's fantastic!
-
A4: Ss set goals and work towards them. We then give updates on how they are doing; keep them on track. Room to track growth.
-
Thanks and I like to include ppl from professional bodies like in feedback
-
Q4: Ideally I like to discuss marked assignments with students one to one. Areas of weakness, "how can I help you?"
-
Q4: you can make sure that you are having your students provide feedback during the year, so that you meet their needs.
-
-
A4: I use feedback to monitor growth with assignments. Let them see how they progress throughout the semester.
-
share with students and have them track their own data -student ownership is essential
-
in a formal sense with Learner Voice meetings & informally with daily interactions with Ss
-
A4 it's always an experiment in trying to become the best you can for your students
-
If they don't own it, they won't know it!
-
A4: Ask early & often! Listen & voice responses to whole group and 1-1 when needed
-
use a sandwich..... Positive, feedback, positive. That way encouraging them to take on board feedback.
-
use a sandwich model ..... Positive, feedback, positive. That way encouraging them to take on board feedback.
-
I thought your first tweet was accurate - give'em a sandwich! In areas like mine (poverty) food = <3
-
A4 and here it is important to view Ss as stakeholders to aid our development in improving
-
assessment for learning is key
-
common department writing rubrics support consistent targets and then, in turn, student reflection on own writing
-
-
Please join us in a couple of minutes @ 7pm. Discussing elevating rigor.
-
A3: it could be used to better target instructional strategies and identify areas of growth.
-
-
And the same thing rarely works with with different groups of students. The ability to be flexible helps https://t.co/Kj8DUQh1IU
