It's 7:30, it's Monday, and 2 days from 5/4.
You know what that means.
-
you probably appreciate Yoda's atypical word orderhttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K0YNJuVbumM used this week
-
-
It's the annual special edition
grab your friends and join in.
-
Q0: Introduce yourself and gauge your Star Wars geekness on a scale of 1 to jedi.
-
-
-
-
-
-
I'm Rob and I'd say I rank a 6 in Star Wars geekiness
-
No for me tonight. Tweets won't load.
-
-
-
missing my favorite how are we using force for good?
-
I am a future El Ed/Spec Ed teacher, excited to join this chat
-
Robert Guzman Tech Coach and would say that I am a 4
-
patience young padawan.
Load the tweets will
-
A0: Judy ELA not a Jedi, but I'm in; a geek in general so Star Wars is bomb!
-
A0: Jessica Sotelo. I'll be honest, my Star Wars geekness level is at about a 1-2, I haven't seen all the movies!
-
-
-
Q1: Yoda talks of the force influencing all things. What force(s) are the core influence in ur classroom? https://t.co/xhQ43Rr6bC
-
-
-
-
glad you are here and good luck
-
A0:Chad Tech tosa in Perris. I would rate my geek level at about young Skywalker, strong w/ the force but a long way from master
-
. A0 continued: I'm probably a 6 or 7 in Star Wars geekiness.
-
crank it up to 11.
The force is strong with this one.
-
We'll see what happens. Julia ELA . Pretty geeky on Star Wars but only the ones from the 70's.
-
The force in my class is that I want all my students to succeed, especially in math
-
A1: Asking questions and acknowledging that we all can learn.
-
-
A1: my students are definitely the core influences in my classroom - their interests, strengths, areas of need shape our class
-
The force is strong in this one.
-
A1 The force in my class is that I want all my students to succeed, especially in math
-
A1: The force is getting Ss to believe that education matters when they're 9th grade and did nothing in Jr. high.
-
say more about this, success feels like a strong word in your classroom. What does it look like?
-
How will the force allow Ss to achieve this glorious goal?
-
A1: "Luminous beings are we" Life, energy, light that's teaching, I hope
-
It's more about them than anything else. Definitely.
-
I agree, acknowledging our students and letting them know they are capable of learning is crucial!
-
Indeed, we shed light for Ss to uncover what they don't yet know
-
A1: Force to avoid:“Sarcasm is the path to the dark side. Sarcasm leads to anger. Anger leads to hate. Hate leads to no learning.”
-
rob, I couldn't agree more!
-
A1 I find an established mutual respect between students and teachers to have a core influence on the classroom as a whole
-
Q1 follow up coming soon
to a tweet near you.
-
I am an Art Teacher at Heritage High School. I am about a 4 on the Starwars scale. I've seen all the movies but don't know so much
-
Sarcasm leads one to dark paths...
-
My Ss aren't as successful as others, but I try not claim to know everything & I'm always asking them "why?"
-
-
hopefully so truth is light
-
pushing that understanding and depth. Way to be. It's a hard question to answer but so important to keep asking.
-
I must show them the way, not simply tell them about it. As a T, I must also build relationships so Ss will trust me
-
-
-
yeah that dark side can get ya sometimes, like in May...
-
Illuminate the path, and follow shall they
-
-
-
A1b: Ss are willing to use the force when they know their T cares about them as people and is a relatable person they can trust
-
Dude is on it with the gifs tonight.
-
A1 Imagination, positive thinking, and compassion drive my Art room.
-
Hmmm, I need to make up for some missed I have had recently. Exit I shall if you so choose
-
compassion, nice, fits right in with this style
-
A1b: I give my students respect, so they know I acknowledge their individualism
-
I some how knew you would (:
-
Goodness, title me a Darth. Sometimes it feels like it's scream, cry, or be sarcastic. But I agree; a habit to kick.
-
A1b: To build those relationships, I engage in casual conversation with Ss. U must also be genuine when asking Ss about themselves
-
A1b:I try to awaken to Ss the seriousness of being citizens of the Empire & how to be a good rebel if you can't fight from within.
-
-
A1b: learn more about students, show students I care & respect them.
-
Q2 coming, time for probably the most quote....
courtesy of the Yoda.
-
Q2: "No. Do. Or Do Not. There is no try."
-Yoda
Share a daunting challenge you have your students do in a classroom.
-
A1b I use compliments, fun art, and tough love to awaken the force
-
sometimes it's amazing how much easier it is to teach a class that you take the time to get to know. Empathy=power
-
well said will use that this week: "Citizen of the Empire"
-
A1b: Relationships✅ compassion✅ Trust✅keeping it 💯✅. Then what happens when they still fail?😥
-
A1b: Encourage curiosity. And FANDOM! I wave my nerd flag proudly & so should they. Not to be ashamed of what they love to study.
-
A2: Encounter a challenge you will, it is what you do in response to challenge that defines you https://t.co/4JRF0BP7zP
-
I have Ss work in groups to devise a method for solving a problem and write a paragraph to explain/justify their methods.
-
-
A new star wars t shirt in the making
-
cheers to valuing citizenship.
Especially w bizarro world in politics lately, & digital worlds too.
-
A2: I have Ss work in groups to devise a method for solving a problem and write a paragraph to explain/justify their methods
-
A2: The first time I did a NPR Story Corps-style interview/lesson in my classroom. Had no idea what kind of emotion would surface.
-
ouch,
don't have a great answer for this, love to hear what has to say on it.
-
A2 All of my lessons start with "show me your smiles." Asking 6th graders to smile throughout a math lesson? daunting challenge
-
That was how my students learned about finding the perimeter of complex shapes.
-
I am having a day of heartbreak.
-
A2: Anything that is cross-curricular for our CARE Pathway. Also earning an A is a daunting challenge in my class; rubrics help.
-
A2: when working in Riverside Unified we raised minimum passing grade to 68%
Took a lot of strategy, but overall numbers went up.
-
A2: Daunting challenge everyday: ask students to use tech w/integrity: digital citizenship
-
A great start, how might this encourage Ss to become math jedi
-
did the same for summer school Geometry.
2 kids dropped, remaining 45 passed. Legit passed. No numbers fudged.
-
For a few years, my Honors Ss did a Writing Project like the IAWP Summer Institute. Emotion aplenty.
-
Wait, wait...so raising expectations caused a disturbance in the force...I'm shocked...
-
. No doubt. Truth is stranger than fiction lately.
-
I had an admin once that asked "why only the honors kids"
really changed my outlook on having Ss step up.
-
Helps Ss to become authors of their math instead of recipients of knowledge.
-
Q2 follow up....
.....
in...

...........
-
Q2b: How can we encourage and support our padawans (Ss) to be doers in the world beyond the classroom?
-
A2: Asking my students to support their claims with evidence from historical sources
-
Only class where I could carve out that chunk of time as my other classes were READ 180 double-block.
-
sorry, have those many days too that's why
-
Also helps Ss to develop their authority in their own mathematical thinking.
-
How might that authorship begin?
-
authors of math.
I like the ring of it. Humanities don't have to hog all the writing fun.
-
What might that mean for you? your Ss?
-
A2b allow your padawans to create in makerspaces while you guide them in the ways of the force
-
-
Many people here in have mentioned that they are supportive in the learning process and that is how we can make them makers
-
A2b: By incorporating service learning as part of curriculum. Have Ss complete projects where they identify issues in community
-
True, but let's formalize that from abstract to concrete
-
so many cool tools on google too try to reinforce every day- half the battle when they get it
-
A2b:
Show Ss their growth, show them their progress.
It's hard to realize success when you're still learning (struggling).
-
A2b: I can't help them become doers outside the classroom because they refuse to be doers inside the classroom
-
Growth journals come to mind...metacognitive strategies are my new thought process...thoughts?
-
............ almost to Q3
-
A2b: Teach them how to approach their failings as measurements of their learning growth. Again, it's why I use rubrics.
-
They sometimes don't realize how far they have come and all they need is a little light
-
It means Ss won't be so dependent on me and other Ts, asking "Is this right? Am I right?" and more willing to explore.
-
Q3: “U will find that many of the truths we cling to depend greatly on our own POV” -Ben Kenobi
What truths exist in school today?
-
A2b: Second, lead by example: What actions do you take to demonstrate and model the behavior you would like to see in your Ss?
-
YUCK! I'm taking my depressed self to bed. Tomorrow is another day!
-
That's so epic. So push that thought further, what's a logical outcome from this process?
-
love that, service, now that's the force go girl!
-
Journaling is always a good thing I think. I know it helps me process and reflect.
Now I have homework-build a habit
-
Authorship begins by working with others. Ss learn by talking with each other, it helps Ss to articulate their ideas.
-
A3: "Failure is not an option." I hated this as it negates the growth that happens through failure.
-
-
A3: I think so many Ss feel that they are alone in their struggles.
At least that's what truth they perceive.
-
I've seen what you do now, keep the faith
-
Tomorrow is a fresh day; let the stars put your thoughts to rest. Wishing you an AWESOME tomorrow!
-
Ahh, i love this. Can we make this more specific...
-
Articulating their ideas verbally helps Ss to be able to write about them.
-
A3:Lot's of negativity that needs to be combated from all sides, we need everyone on board on the good side of the force
