There are a few different types that might be used in the school: FM/DM transmitter/receivers systems (ear level), Soundfield, remote mics (blue tooth) #PatinsIcam
A2: well I love and benefit from CART technology (Communication Access Realtime Translation) and closed captions when offered. Everyone benefits. I'm watching Outlander right now, helps with the thick scottish accents #PatinsIcam
A2: Most certainly, even teachers benefit from utilizing a soundfield system in the classroom. Thing about not straining your voice to get the group back together after group work! Also helps for students who struggle with focusing and staying on task. #PatinsIcam
A2: I am a SUPER loud person and I still believe that different types of amplification and captions help EVERYONE! Lets face it...we ALL have preferences and things that help us! #PatinsIcam
A1: I don't necessarily have students with identified with Hearing Impairments... but looking to glean ideas for students who I suspect don't hear very well or hearing is unknown at this time. #PatinsIcam
A2: SO MUCH research supports use of classroom audio systems for ALL Ss, with and w/out hearing loss. It's the reason ALL @PATINSPROJECT Specialists use voice amplifiers when speaking to groups! #PatinsIcam
Yes! Especially for early childhood, lots of mild intermittent hearing loss (colds, ear infections) and that equals time not absorbing spoken language. FM systems, classrooms designed to minimize noise are great ideas #PatinsIcam
I bought one three years ago for personal use because of the size of my science lab....a district I used to work for had them hard wired in BUT Ts didn’t use it! #PatinsIcam
#UDL right?? Even though the instruction may be designed for certain students, it can and will benefit all students... closed captions for example.
#PatinsIcam
A3: sign can be an augmentative or physical assist to speech. Soundfield systems are good for everyone in minimizing non-essential sounds. Lights to cue when something has happened. #PatinsIcam
R2: yes!!! Having a system in place that will produce that sound for all students not only helps our DHH kiddos but the other students in class! They have the ability to hear the information at a different level than normal! They might even pay attention more! #PatinsIcam
Q3: All Students love to use the microphone for ANY reason!! Its great fun for them and it benefits those that need that extra help with the auditory signal. So any time Ss are sharing their stories or answers. Makes it easier on the teacher to not have to repeat Ss #PatinsIcam
Hmm.. I wonder if I would have liked to use a mic as a student. I'm thinking probably not. But I sure would have liked to hear the teacher better. #PatinsIcam
A3: not a classroom, but in the cafeteria. My grandparents have hearing loss and before hearing aides hated going to restaurants, it was so hard to socialize in that kind of environment. Think about all the places in the school we learn, HAT needs to be there #PatinsIcam
A5: Sometimes it gets confusing if Ss can use school HAT for extra activities after school or on fieldtrips. Definitely important conversations to have with the IEP Team. Ss need access on and off the field in sports, they may need their devices too! #PatinsIcam
