#edchatie Am I at the right pitch?
    In reply to @fboss
  • johnmayo Nov 19 @ 3:44 PM EST
What is it like from the NQT point of view? @addie8376 @dowlingggl #edchatie
  • dowlingggl Nov 19 @ 3:44 PM EST
So far this year I’ve had opportunities to both observe and be observed by other teachers in my school, as well as engage in professional discussions around effective practice and subject specific methods - a great support for my first few months #edchatie
  • shffnn Nov 19 @ 3:45 PM EST
Won't be able to join #edchatie tonight, but my own experience is that Droichead is a waste of school time and resources. Kafka would have found the T*ch*ng C*nc*l's antics excessive. Bring back NQT workshops for all.

Repairing schools to cost ‘big money’, says Minister https://t.co/5DK23o1JGx #edchatie Will any lessons be learned when building schools in the future? I'm really surprised by the lack of uproar outside the media. https://t.co/5DK23o1JGx
  • dowlingggl Nov 19 @ 3:47 PM EST
The workshops are the only component that I don’t view as actively beneficial, as they place a focus on what the Droichead process involves as opposed to adding to the process as a whole #edchatie
  • fboss Nov 19 @ 3:48 PM EST
@niptireland has all of the necessary information on their website about Droichead here -> https://t.co/Ftyz1XyDKV #edchatie

New Ipads have arrived to our school. Any recommendations from any of my teacher/school followers? #edchatie #DigitalLearning @PDSTie @PDST_TechinEd

It’s as useful as you make it! Some people viewing it as a box ticking exercise, which I did at the start, but I’ve actually gotten a lot out of the discussions with other staff and simply knowing there’s support in your first year helps greatly! #edchatie
    In reply to @johnmayo, @addie8376
  • fboss Nov 19 @ 3:50 PM EST
How did the observing/observations go? Were they done through a set of protocols or were they more informal? #edchatie
    • dowlingggl Nov 19 @ 3:44 PM EST

Great day today learning about planning for embedding digital tech in education from @PDST_TechinEd thanks to @osullims #Edchatie #edu #edtech
  • johnmayo Nov 19 @ 3:52 PM EST
#edchatie in Virginia, NQTs get a hour a week with an instruction coach in the classroom as well as out of classroom support.
  • fboss Nov 19 @ 3:52 PM EST
I think it's always good to be able to grow a professional dialogue/collegiality around teaching and learning. Can bring about some very important discussions #edchatie

  • johnmayo Nov 19 @ 3:59 PM EST
#edchatie Curious who proposed this topic?

We're at the halfway point in tonight's #edchatie live hour of discussion about "How effective is Droichead for NQTs and mentors and the whole school?" There are some good points being made tonight about #Droichead for #NQT
  • CuffeL Nov 19 @ 4:02 PM EST
Laurence Cuffe, Joining Late Also not really a contributor, as my path to teaching has been somewhat different. #edchatie
  • fboss Nov 19 @ 4:02 PM EST

don't know which is quieter #denirl or #edchatie
  • addie8376 Nov 19 @ 4:02 PM EST
I don’t know yet as I’m still in my final year but it sounds like it could be good for supporting a NQT as they start out.. #edchatie

It sounds from a few other comments tonight that it can be seen as quite supportive. I'm wondering what the other non #NQT teachers thought about it too? #edchatie

  • CuffeL Nov 19 @ 4:10 PM EST
From what I've browsed on the website, a lot of Droichead seems to be about Droichead, not so much about teaching per se. #edchatie (sadly still too cynical for my own good) Nice to see positive responses from the upcoming !crop¡

  • fboss Nov 19 @ 4:12 PM EST
    Thanks @dowlingggl - it's a fairly comprehensive document #edchatie

  • fboss Nov 19 @ 4:14 PM EST
I think the discussions arising from classroom obs, as one example, are what will lead to the building of practice in teaching (going by what was said tonight) #edchatie

It's been a slow tonight on #edchatie and we're into the famous final five minutes of the hour long discussion on "How effective is Droichead for NQTs and mentors and the whole school?" Any last comments, thoughts, ideas or solutions?
  • CuffeL Nov 19 @ 4:27 PM EST
how many teachers would be in the process at this point in time #edchatie it just seems a little quite here..
  • fboss Nov 19 @ 4:28 PM EST
The usual transcription gathering service seems to now have gone down - I'm testing a new one - so transcript of tonight's #edchatie discussion might be a bit delayed - but hope to have it sorted out soon.
