Welcome to #MTedchat! Our topic tonight is “Holiday Fun! Powering Through December!” Please take a moment to introduce yourself: name, role, and location.
Hi there Kim! Good to see you! I had fun with you yesterday! I have not begun to edit our footage but we got some good stuff. It all sounds good! #MTedchat
Q1: December can be daunting! It is easy to lose your steam this time of year. What are you doing to keep you and your students excited to be in school right now? #MTedchat
A1: Not being in the classroom this year makes this tough, but if I were in the classroom I would be trying to keep the routine while doing some larger, fun projects. Art and science would be my first go-to's. #MTedchat
A1 we have some cool stuff going on I. Our classroom our Ag department is doing small engine repair for teacher’s mowers in 8th grade and our 6th grade teacher @KelleyLogan16 has her students making pop up books on cells to share with our elementary school #MTedchat
A1 If I were in the classroom right now, I think I'd have my Ss do some podcasting to share what they've been learning. Some reflection for an authentic audience. :) #MTedchat
A1) I think most kids are excited in December. It's just trying to focus that excitement! I try to be more present and visible to help remind kids to stay on track. #mtedchat
Q2: The promise of holidays and time off from school is not always welcome for all students. How do you support students who may feel anxious about the holidays? #MTedchat

A2: This is a great ?! It's also hard for our students who don't celebrate. I think great things are to keep them moving, try and get them outside and keep an eye on the learning. It is a REALLY hard time for lots of folks! #MTedchat
Late to the party— first #mtedchat but experienced twitter chatter. A1) nothing spectacular here but continue to bring energy and passion every day to the classroom, greet students at the door, and develop relationships.
A2 Please share this article with your colleagues. We're looking forward to rest and relaxation. But, many of our students rely on routine of school for comfort. This article offers suggestions to support our students #MTedchathttps://t.co/NhC5econwU
A2) some teachers send home reading/math practice with schedules for kids. For some, lack of routine is really hard, so just something to keep them connected with school is important. #mtedchat

I have a survey that they do to look at learning styles and possible projects and then they have to turn in a proposal. Then after that I do conferences with them to check in on their progress. It gets a little chaotic though. #mtedchat
A2 one thing I know I try to do is focus on telling kids they will be missed let them know they are appreciated at school and try not to focus on their plans what they want or what they got #MTedchat

A2: I like to have Ss talk about what they may be doing and make a plan of possible activities. Whether they do them or not. I also have sent home an activity packet for Ss to work on if they want to. It keeps the school connection too. #MTedchat
A2 Don't keep overselling "the break." That much "break" much actually break our kids. Many are going into situations that are already uncomfortable and for some, violent. Tell them you're waiting for them upon return #MTedchat
A2)As a HS teacher who’s semester ends AFTER break, the holidays also mark sort of a stressful time for teachers as well based on this year’s calendar. Lots of discussions with colleagues on how to treat the last couple weeks. Imagine how some S’s feel this time of year #mtedchat
"As we move on toward 3rdQ, excited over all the possibilities of progress, we know how quickly time moves. Let’s take a few moments to reflect on those students who won’t be fortunate enough to enjoy what some of us might take for granted." #MTedchathttps://t.co/NhC5econwU
Q3: Self care this time of year is more important than ever. What can you do to take care of yourself? How can the #mtedchat community help you do this? #MTedchat

A3 for me it is focusing on one day at a time and each day is a new opportunity to bring my personal best regardless of what happens the day before. I also listen to a lot of music and take time appreciate all of the positive things in my life #MTedchat
A3 For the last 2 weeks I have met with so many Ts who are sick and exhausted. I borrowed this idea from @rachelmarker to sprinkle some fun where I can, https://t.co/IBldGSHCNU#MTedchat
A3) do not mistake secondary things with primary things. Remember what is primary in this season of advent. Let primary be primary and secondary be secondary ie will anyone REALLY care if your 122,358 lights don’t get up..? #mtedchat
A3: I take some serious "me time" this time of year. I make sure to do something for me every day or two, like run, read, watch TV, etc. #MTedchat gives me a chance to take "me time" to connect with colleagues and improve my practice.

A3 this is always such a tough one for me. I work way too much, so I’m trying my best to leave at a decent hour at least a couple times a week. The problem is shutting off my brain lol #MTedchat
I have this problem too. I have been reading Onward by @brightmorningtm There are some good tips for shutting down the brain. They have helped! #MTedchat
A4 we do a spirit week to celebrate the holidays and we have a trivia day as well as movies the last day before break. Our teachers also take part. #MTedchat
A4 My former school collected gifts for a family in need in the community and had a school wide read aloud on the last day before break. I remember it fondly! #MTedchat
It was fun, always got kind of rowdy and not appropriate for kids. We didn't bring them to the staff party. It was fun to laugh and be silly. #MTedchat
During November, we have a school wide fundraiser for local food pantries, and the winning advisories (8) get to participate in a dodgeball tournament #mtedchat
We did the white elephant gift as well ;-) there are now a couple of items that get regifted each year. Definitely a time for the school adults to just relax and enjoy. #mtedchat
A4: My fave tradition happens on our last day (always an early out) We have a schoolwide lip-sync event. Student groups sign up a couple of weeks prior & get an opp to practice at school. Staff does one or two performances as well. It’s both hilarious and heartwarming. #mtedchat
A5: I am heading to California for the break. While there I plan on relaxing. Doing that will help me recharge and refocus to make it through the second semester. #MTedchat
A5 I am going to try VERY hard to take the week OFF and do as little work as possible. It will be such a nice break from grad school work and time with my kiddos! #MTedchat
Q6: Share your favorite holiday activity! High or low tech! What do you LOVE to do this time of year with students or the other teachers in your building? #MTedchat
