Jonathan Weinstein, VA psychologist from NY, I train and teach medical students, psychology interns, and VA psychologists in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy. I also consult with school about how they can empower their students. #EduGladiators
A1) I was scrolling on FB, a friend posted a GIF of a map showing exploration and colonialism (trying to make a political point, which failed). it was an excellent resource to use in my class to show the spread of language! #EduGladiators

A1 I read in a History of the Vietnam Veterans Movement that more US veterans died after the war than during. This fact helped me conceive of my favorite affirmation about the resilience of my patients,”If you made it this long, you’re officially hard to kill.” #EduGladiators
#EduGladiators A1. There've been a few times I'm out on the weekend and randomly meet other educators from other districts = New Relationships and how I like to hear what other districts are doing too
A1: I discovered https://t.co/6IBegUyCVA from a colleague and it changed how I teach teachers - instant feedback and audience engagement #EduGladiators
A1: Ss love to speak to one another about things happening in their personal lives. I found that by honoring these thoughts, I was able to select texts & tasks that would interest, inspire & engage my Ss based on what they shared. Ss are often a great resource! #edugladiators

A1a: This year the timing was perfect. Someone shared an image from one of those workbooks that are notoriously marketed as help for kids either outside of school or as a homeschool curriculum that established a false narrative #EduGladiators
A1. This answer is kind of cheating because my brain is still in sleep mode… I read #PlayLikeaPirate and cannot wait to implement things like action figures into my classroom!
Last year we used play-doh to build models in science. #EduGladiators
A1: When I was teaching 7th TX History I was watching CBS Sunday Morning & they featured a man named George Dawson who learned to read in his 90s and wrote his life story called “Life is so Good”. I read it & ordered a class set for my Ss. Lots of life lessons! #edugladiators
I also love flipgrid. I'm still in my "infancy" stages of really knowing what it can do and using it to it's full potential. But I love it and so do my kiddos. #edugladiators
A1) I was in class & didn't want to take the time for Ss to get their small whiteboards. So, I had them use their whiteboard markers on their regular desks. I didn't need anything special or fancy. That was a game changer. #edugladiators
A1b: about First Nations and European interaction. I brought it into class as we were looking at the devastation that came to first nations communities because of Europeans. Students were horrified at the inaccuracy of a "learning tool" #EduGladiators Served as a great resource.
A1 I remember thinking about how I can teach regions of the Philippines to my students. A colleague suggested I use a map and a few visible thinking routines to enliven my lesson.
Collaboration at its finest.
#EduGladiators
A1: Last summer at a conference I learned about @Flipgrid and modeled it with teachers first. Then we did a PD and sooooo many teachers used it with students this year! #edugladiators
A1 Kept seeing @Flipgrid over and over. Wasn't sure it would work well in a music classroom... Just because. Turns out to be a Great way to provide onging, asymmetric dialogue with Ss while removing the barrier of sitting right next to the teacher while playing #Edugladiators
A1.2 I have worked with a lot of VN veterans over the years. They have contributed most of what psychology has learned about evidenced-based psychotherapy. Psychology owes their generation a debt of gratitude. #EduGladiators
A1 I read in a History of the Vietnam Veterans Movement that more US veterans died after the war than during. This fact helped me conceive of my favorite affirmation about the resilience of my patients,”If you made it this long, you’re officially hard to kill.” #EduGladiators
A1: I think my morning routine of greeting Ss, high-fives & fist bumps! Established a fun routine for Ss that they didn’t even know they were learning #EduGladiators
A1 Was invited to a student quinceanera...being from TN, never experienced that part of this RGV's culture...started making it a regular part of my math lessons #EduGladiators
A1: Constantly happening thru informal hallway convos to formal meetings to Twitter. Most recently from sitting on interview panels & hearing innovative approaches to coaching Ts; approaching coaching from perspectives lost to me. Adding to my bag of tricks #edugladiators
A2) I listen to @MissedinHistory it gives me great and interesting material to use in class. I can use stories from the podcast as hooks or insert links into hyper docs to personalize learning! #EduGladiators
A1: While reading What Every Middle School Teacher Should Know for a grad class, I found a solution to my 10th grade students’ argument writing project. There it was like magic! #EduGladiators
A1 reading @edutopia is also another way to get me thinking about how to integrate technology, how to reflect on my teaching, and how to push myself to be innovative as well #EduGladiators
A1: I realized that the best resources for my classroom were human ones- my students. An artist to use images to clarify, linguist to translate, researcher to find out, etc. Using learner’s natural talents and skills- inspired by @makingoodhumans focus on agency. #edugladiators
A2 I love this one podcast--the History of Philosophy without any Gaps. Reading Aristotle’s obsession with naming/classifying kinds of predication has taught me to be patient with naming experiential and educational exercises for our new book. #EduGladiators
A2: me and @BradShreffler are going to be considering the pedagogy of The Empire Strikes Back in an upcoming podcast, so I'm really jazzed to see what comes of that! #edugladiators
A1 I read a book called "Deep Work" (not an education book) & made so many connections to our Ss lack of ability to concentrate. Began finding ways to help them focus
#edugladiatorshttps://t.co/eRrKzcyzdk
A1) I have received various messages and ideas about resiliency and overcoming obstacles while listening to #GospelMusic and going to #Church. #edugladiators
A1. Not your conventional “everyday” activity, but I run a lot of @ToughMudder & @SpartanRace events. Love the teamwork & “extreme obstacles” appeal of these events. So I started building team-based academic relay races. #gamification twist on old-school centers! #EduGladiators
A2 I love the Great American Farm Tour Yuotube Series. I think it would be a great model for students to discover the content in classes rather than "learn by lecture" #Edugladiators
A2: Having recently read For Everyone by @JasonReynolds83 I can't think of a better text to look at goal setting and overcoming the road blocks that often make us detour. I will be utilizing it next year with students #EduGladiators
A2: Mastery-based learning via video games. Is learning a text-based tutorial (lecture-style) or learning by doing (failing until you get it)? Which sticks? via this video: https://t.co/hN0AS1ibBc#EduGladiators

A1b: Just scrolling through Twitter I find so many great ideas. These chats provide more in 30 minutes than some PD sessions do in days. #EduGladiators
A2 Right now articles about mental health are coming out. Reading stories of people we considered successful who suffered inside is helping me pay attention to students I might assume are “fine” or even superstars, and rethink how schools define success. #EduGladiators
A1 Finally taking the leap by buying books on teaching and learning. Book recommendations from twitter are the best...because you know they’ve been personally vetted by teachers everywhere. #EduGladiators
A2: I've restarted golf this summer. It's certainly a practice in focusing on improvement, not competition. The same lesson I can apply to students and writing. They're in different levels of ability, but they shouldn't compare to each other. It's about improvement #edugladiators
A2: I loved Maniac Magee as a kid and the lessons it teaches can truly inform #socialjustice#equity education. It’s a book that speaks very loudly to our current climate... @JerrySpinelli1#EduGladiators
A2: me and @BradShreffler are going to be considering the pedagogy of The Empire Strikes Back in an upcoming podcast, so I'm really jazzed to see what comes of that! #edugladiators
A2: TV show Jane the Virgin was my go-to for encouraging Hispanic students to use both English and Espanõl in conversations and learning when they were skeptical of its benefits. #translanguaging#multilingualism#edugladiators

A1) Reading the newspaper and having students be more aware of their communities and world by critically analyzing what is being presented. #edugladiators
Yes! Sometimes edu books have too narrow of a scope. Have you read “Thinking Fast and Slow” ? Not a quick read but full of insight into thought processes #EduGladiators
A2. Hands down, @survivorcbs is the best non-teaching “teaching” show I’ve ever seen. @JeffProbst is a great host & an engagement master. The game is constantly evolving. Blending social strategy with smart gamesmanship & calculated risk / reward scenarios. #EDUgladiators
A2 I love using picture books for PD. The first time I did it, I was a bit nervous, but they responded so well. The messages are deep & we have incredible discussions. #edugladiators
#EduGladiators A2. Partner with those people and organize meeting between educators from different districts...fun, coffee, lunch..I know this happens, but not enough where I live. 🙂
A2: Grey’s anatomy as a TV show PD! Imagine if we reflected on how the doctors in the show learned their craft and connected that to our role as educators. #edugladiators
A2 Right now articles about mental health are coming out. Reading stories of people we considered successful who suffered inside is helping me pay attention to students I might assume are “fine” or even superstars, and rethink how schools define success. #EduGladiators
A2: addicted to @pintrest ; finding ideas there all the time - inspiring quotes to mindset activities to culture building strategies. All by accident while trying to clear my head. Also listening to @audible_com & pondering ideas, phrases, concepts there #edugladiators
A2.2: Something else I’m seeing is the use of comic books to get kids excited about reading. We don’t like it, but I’ve seen comics used to start kids off and it has led to more reading and engagement with traditional books. #EduGladiators
A2 I’m watching Suits now because of Meghan Markle and it made me realize the power of questions really lead us to wonder and come up with new ways of thinking and doing #EduGladiators
Two of the most profound books I have ever read. They remind you of the importance of humanity, long term effects of social, political, economical, and ethical choices on future generations & the least known heroes in our midst. #edugladiators
A2 Watching the NBA Finals and Golden State Warriors shows the value of teamwork and how one goal can unify a varied group of individuals...this lesson is always preachable for all campus stakeholders #EduGladiators
When scrolling Facebook, I discovered an intense video clip of a mother eagle uncovering herself (& eggs she was protecting) from a mound of snow. This clip inspired my K in our bird inquiry. Ever since, all my K/1s have watched live eagle cams. #KidsAsResearchers#EduGladiators

Last summer, while visiting family in Spain we went to “Caminito del Rey” (King’s pathway) world’s most dangerous walkway. A total of 7.7 KM & took approximately 3 1/2 hours to complete. We had to collaborate, listen, encourage, problem solve in order to hike. #edugladiators

A2: Also reading books about motivation and momentum. Breaking big tasks down. I use these lessons when helping kids who are getting behind. We focus on one simple task and build momentum from there #EduGladiators
A3 @Colossal is an art and design blog that has brilliant examples of creativity. It’s one thing to tell people to think outside the box, but looking at art shows students (and teachers!) where creative thinking can take them. #EduGladiators
Yes! And they help to make us more relatable to students. Think about how something like Chopped could be used as a formative assessment 🤔 #EduGladiators
A3: @smartereveryday is a fantastic resource for all teachers looking to inspire their kids with curiosity, creativity, and a desire to learn. The YouTube channel is also a big favourite for me! #edugladiators
A1Reflecting on my own growth moments, I put a finger on the power of talk. Most of my growth has come from talk—at a table. So I took the idea of the “table talk” to my clsrm. Instead of individual wkshts, kids talk at the table, “talking” on shared butcher paper. #edugladiators
A3) It is Reese Witherspoon's bookclub @hellosunshine, also follow on @instagram it is dedicated to female storytelling and giving females a strong voice. #EduGladiators
I love the show Happy Days—-it dealt with social issues of kids! Time to bring Richie and the Fonz (so)back! #EduGladiators I know the social issues and mental health are up a notch these days!

A3. If you’re looking for a game-changing approach to education, then @yukaichou is a guru of all things #gamification.
Seeking simplicity in your instructional design? @MarieKondo is where it’s at.
And everybody should follow @DanielPink. Motivation master!

Yes! And they help to make us more relatable to students. Think about how something like Chopped could be used as a formative assessment 🤔 #EduGladiators
A2: I think pop culture influences us on a daily basis. Everything we read, see, and hear affects us in some way and we bring that to the classroom. Sometimes without being aware of its influence! #edugladiators
A3: @Lin_Manuel & @VAMNit both are people we can learn from (and bed to share with students) @VAMNit is especially amazing as she didn’t want to give up on either of her dreams so became an attorney & chemical engineer! #inspired#EduGladiators#WhatATeam
A3: She works with teachers but @JodyCarrington has a message that I think all staffs would benefit from. https://t.co/j5HOnTFcDk I quote her often in conversations when colleagues are expressing just feeling worn out. #EduGladiators
I don't care for comic books either but I am willing and going to learn more thanks to @historycomics. I'm going to the Denver Comic Con next week to learn more & as my husband said, "connect with my students". I just want them to know & have a love of reading. #edugladiators
A4 Healthy cooking, hiking, and observing nature help me restore myself and come up with new ideas for writing, and self-care is itself an important topic to discuss with students: https://t.co/mhAaZdzAxp#EduGladiators
The novel The Night Circus was filled with stunning descriptions of creativity in unimaginable ways that challenged my own creativity. Want to encourage other educators to read it! #EduGladiators#theNightCircus

A4: I am working on gathering ideas for room transformations for next school year. I have already started reaching out to establish relationships with business owners in the community. I need to re-read Wildcard so I can jog my ideas back to potential #EduGladiators
A4: Playing golf. I'm not good, but it's about the experience. Walking the course and taking in the scenery, staying in the moment, breathing. It's a good analogy for teaching and for life. #edugladiators
#edugladiators A4 This summer, I am taking a class called Writing for Television. I have always been interested in how far our #writing can reach, and I want to give #students the opportunity to #write in different formats to reach others.
A2 F.R.I.E.N.D.S will always resonate with me. The comibination of friendship, belonging and humour is a great role model for any learning setting #EduGladiators
A4: Learning Berber. My goal is to be able to buy items successfully at the market (bargaining, numbers, items names, money and greetings). This will put me in the shoes of many of my emerging language learners. #edugladiators
A4: I have a list of things
1: Workshop model for JH
2: Personalized Learning Plans
3: Looking in to the Grid Method
4: Talking about it all on my blog and maybe a podcast.
5: Just reading a lot.
#EduGladiators
A2: I read this little gem to my kids at the beginning of the year as an introduction to building community from diversity. Classroom community matters. #edugladiators
A4) I have decided to find a new podcast on topic to listen to that I wouldn't ordinarily listen to. Not something I hate, but something I wouldn't immediately listen to. This is just to broaden my knowledge & perhaps find a new area of interest. #edugladiators
A3: hmm just discovered that since I use twitter almost exclusively for #edu learning & resources I don’t have many outsider accounts I follow...? Suggestions welcomed #edugladiators
A4 with our summer ending (PH follows the Jun-Mar calendar)
Last summer I took the leap to present at a conference and facilitate a workshop. I also started reading on topics on tech integration and inquiry learning.
#EduGladiators
A4 I want to finally write a Picture Story Book! A passion of mine and would love the learning it brings from experience that I can share with my students #EduGladiators
A4 cont. the experience got me thinking on how I can help teachers in our country and how can I get this message across to a wider audience #EduGladiators
A4: I just picked up the ukulele and I plan on going hard at it this summer. Playing it around school has already proven to be a valuable connection tool and has helped create a more relaxed atmosphere. #edugladiators
A4: Paddle boarding. I’m always encouraging reluctant Ts & Ss to try new things that may be outside their comfort zone or something they don’t think they can do - so I need to model trying new things as well. #edugladiators
Over already??? Thank you for an exciting and idea-filled chat, and thank you @mgrosstaylor and #EduGladiators team for inviting us to moderate today! Have a great weekend, everyone!
A4 Professionally, I'm going to (hopefully!) take the plunge into blogging. I'll also reflect on these last 2 yrs of lessons & units to curate the good, tweak the bad, toss the ugly. #edugladiators
A4: to dive right in and learn as much as I can about Frenchtown JH! The new challenge awaits! A ton of reading and following my boys around playing baseball in the PNW! Gonna be a great summer! #EduGladiators
A3: Account will be diff. for everyone, but city/county events. Knowing what's going on + attending events = more outside connections and interaction with families. #EduGladiators

Q4: I am determined to learn and use Google slides so my littles can make #booksnaps to share their comprehension and learning. i have an article saved from @TaraMartinEDU on how to do it. I just need to take the time to sit, read, and do. #edugladiators
A4: Lesson planning! I hope that i will start this year more prepared and develop a goal for my students. (instead of weekly plans) *Last year i was new to the profession and did not get the chance to adequately pre-plan.#EduGladiators
A4 presenting at my 1st conference Monday- @Region10ESC tech conference. Excited to grow from this. I am also working on archery skills with my new compound bow. Archery takes a lot of practice, focus and patience- three things that any educator can use. #edugladiators
A4: 3 summer goals 1) improve school FB account to engage community 2) make another attempt at blogging 3) team to design engaging pd for other APs in district #edugladiators
A4 I plan to continue tweeting daily, recapping my inquiry tchg with little kids. Hopefully, I'll blog professionally & actually attend that writers' group I've found! Reflecting is huge, truly setting the stage for my best work with my next loop of Ss. #EduGladiators

A4. Considering Frisby Golf PD. Read an article or listen to podcast and then discuss in groups of four as we play 9 or 18 holes of Frisby Golf. Great for learning and building relationships...plus 3 miles of walking. #EduGladiators
A2: (TV: Full House) Teaches us to have a strong sense of community/family. In order to be supportive to students we have to support one another (faculty/staff).#EduGladiators
I hear ya! I usually have about 2-3 blog draft sitting there unpublished. I found adding time in my calendar 📆 to work on them (with reminders) really helped also. #EduGladiators
A2. Read The Power of Moments by Heath brothers. Excellent book. It has motivated me to look for opportunities to create lasting memories for my family and school community. We just just welcomed our incoming Kinders like this... #EduGladiators
A1: I was shopping in dollar tree and found packages of dry erase foam die. I bought 6 of them and use the dice when giving students choices. (writing prompts, review games)#EduGladiators
Oh, they do. But, I've discovered that we teachers and parents (their grandparents, too, and aunts!) have learned just as much as the kids have! #EduGladiators
