Nick Davis from Nebraska, high school science Teacher. Favorite moment this year was watching my friend @mrmatera crushing his intentional driven presentation for the first time at #usmspark#iste18#notatiste#tlap
A1. To me, "Be REAL" means to share my genuine self, the good and the not so good, with Ss to model forging ahead no matter what to show them that I don't want them to be perfect, but to be themselves. #tlap
A1. Being real is staying true to yourself. Chasing your dreams and not letting anyone stand in your way. Being real staying true to yourself. #TLAP#REALedu
A1: being real to me means tiy are authentic with your S's. its not a you and them or a you vs them. Its us together and really caring about your S's and their success's #TLAP
A1: Be REAL to me means that I am not putting on a show. I am who I am with my Ss & colleagues. If I mess up, I own it. If I fail, we talk it through. If a S has a great idea, we use it. I am me 100% of the time so I can role model that for Ss. You be You. I be Me. #tlap#REALedu
Hi #tlap friends! Sarah, 6th grade ELA teacher in GA! My favorite moment was when a student told me that she finished 15 books this year. In the next breath she said that she had never read that much before & that she hadn’t ever read a whole book by herself.
#TLAP my favorite experience was when my #teachersquad began our #twitterwar which was the beginning of our transformation as a team, as connected educators, as #twitterwinners 🌟
A1: Vulnerability that gifts you the opportunity to tell your story! As you my friend have taught me always go to your why... BE REAL! #tlap#REAledu#ISTE18#Nan3EDU
A1: “Be Real” is being proud of who you are!! Be transparent, be vulnerable, be TRUE to who you are!! Honor your story & journey! Just do YOU! #tlap#REALedu
A1: Being REAL means following your passions, even if you do it alone. We have to show Ss that whatever their passions are they will always be worth following! #TLAP
A1: to be real I am learning is to show your messy side. Showing the process of evolving my craft which I have done quite a bit of the last few years (good, bad, and ugly) I think helps others want to jump in and doing something outside their comfort zone as well with me. #tlap
A1: Be REAL means that I am able to be authentic with all of who I am and clear about communicating my needs and expectations. Allowing myself to Be REAL helps me to accept others (students, colleagues, friends, family, etc.) who are also proud to Be REAL. #TLAP#REALedu
A1: Be myself. My strengths, my weaknesses, my quirks, my crazy energy and crazy ideas, my failures, my triumphs, my love of pink, 😂 my life story. And be so transparent so all of that shines so I can be REAL #tlap
A1: being REAL means owning failures and successes alike. Taking everything in stride. striving to be a better teacher for yourself and others around you. #tlap
A1 Being willing to let people know your good and your bad and own them both. Enhance on your good and make it better. Learn from your bad so you can turn it into good. #tlap
“Being real” to me means speaking, thinking and acting intentionally, in line with your genuine personal philosophy, and “real”-izing that those ideas will and should always evolve based on your experiences. #tlap
A1 Real is being 100% genuine with the kids at all times. Ss are smart enough to know when you are faking. Let them see you at your weakest and most vulnerable. It will let them see they are not alone. #tlap
A1: Being REAL is embracing vulnerability and showing the world that it's ok to have highs and lows! Check out my blog at https://t.co/5lWx2NLTvo to see how REAL I am! #tlap#iste18
A1: Vulnerability that gifts you the opportunity to tell your story! As you my friend have taught me always go to your why... BE REAL! #tlap#REAledu#ISTE18#Nan3EDU
A1-Be Real means following your ❤️, gut, and 🧠. You might stand alone, but staying true to yourself. Not faking what you think others want you to be/doz #tlap
A1 Being willing to let people know your good and your bad and own them both. Enhance on your good and make it better. Learn from your bad so you can turn it into good #tlap#REALedu
A2: I move to a new grade level (7th grade) and I hadn’t taught some of the content before. BUT I had a great colleague to help guide me through it to make sure I didn’t mess things up! haha. #TLAP#REALedu
A2: a risk that i took this year is really trying to implement small groups. i felt like i did a good job of that during my intervention time but need to do that during my regular class time as well #tlap
A1: I think being REAL is letting your personality and enthusiasm shine through in your classroom. Students respond to authentic and appreciate it so much. They even love it when you mess up terribly if you try something new. Very forgiving. Dont try to FAKE what youre not. #TLAP
A2: For me, taking risks means that we may not succeed the way we intended...
Case in point, our Innovation Lab was a big risk, but we are already revamping it to version 2.0 due to the mistakes we made!
#tlap
A2: I took a risk this year and created a PD challenge to #gamifyPD, and it pushed both myself and Ts to try new things outside of our comfort zones. While some didn’t like it, many FLOURISHED with new ideas! #tlap
How exciting & thrilling for you! So amazing! I can only imagine the joy you have! I don’t even know you and I’m excited for you. It’s just how us pirates roll, I guess?! 😁👍🏻☠️ #tlap

A2: I took a risk and did something completely out of my comfort zone. I have a hard time having difficult conversations but I needed to do it. So I jumped in head first AND I did it! Also I survived and I think it even strengthened a relationship with that educator too! #tlap
A2: Definitely a risk writing my thoughts, reflections, and ways to implement each @dbc_inc book on my blog! It holds me accountable for implementing and that's a bit scary! Also... 50 (+3) books in one summer - whew! #butsomuchfun#learninglots#DBC50Summer#tlap#REALedu
A2: I rolled out #flexibleseating w/HS Ss. It is a complete SUCCESS but letting go of the control of so many things has been scary at times. I love it and am glad I did it. Won't go back to desks in rows. Nope. Not gonna happen. #tlap live from #ISTE18
A1: BE REAL - Besides the acronym, which we know... It means that you show truly who you are at all times and aren't afraid of the critics or the naysayers and you continue to grow in all areas #tlap#BeRealEDU
Ivy Rebecca teacher/librarian from Texas. Favorite moment… seeing a particularly shy student speak boldly and confidently on a subject she was passionate about #tlap
A2: I developed a full STEAM rotation this year with my Kinders working on Design Thinking projects, Genius Hour, Art, and STEM Bins all at the same time. It turned out to be our favorite time fo the day. Embraced the chaos and it was awesome! #tlap
A2: This year I completely transformed my computer room into an innovation lab. I had NO CLUE how it would all end up, but WOW - it was transformational! Check it out! https://t.co/4iS7y4bYGE#tlap#iste18
A2: I've taken several risks this year. One of the most rewarding was helping to put together and facilitate a district book study that is going on it's 3rd cohort! Woohoo! Providing "constructive" feedback to your peers can be challenging at times. #tlap
A2 - We had our secondary staff focus on their own learning and growth by creating personalized PD. Teachers chose how they wanted to impact students, not the same district PD for every teacher. We differentiated PD and nailed it! #tlap
A2: Advocating for Ss who defy stereotypes of what a "gifted" or "talented" student should look like to a cynical few. No cookie cutter kids...giftedness comes in all shapes and sizes and yes...even challenging behaviors! #TLAP#REALedu
A2 5th grade was added to my caseload. I wasn't completely ready for the drama issues that was 5th grade. I had some difficulty adjusting on how to best meet their needs, but working w/ the 5th grade team and my principal things settled down and I was able to adjust #tlap
A2: most of this past year was a risk to me. Opening my Twitter account. Creating a blog and podcast. Dressing up as a “guest speaker” for lessons. Room transformations for lessons. Havin. Students design questions and rubrics for an entire project. #tlap
A1: Be myself. My strengths, my weaknesses, my quirks, my crazy energy and crazy ideas, my failures, my triumphs, my love of pink, 😂 my life story. And be so transparent so all of that shines so I can be REAL #tlap
A2: After 28 years as a classroom teacher and then a district leader, I returned to the classroom to teach Kindergarten for the first time this year...big risk for me! 😊 No regrets! ❤️ #tlap
A1: Be REAL means just being yourself and being proud of where you came from. Good or bad, past experiences shaped you into the person you are today. #tlap#RealEDU
A2: Biggest Risk I took was moving forward with change that was completely questionable. To be me and be okay with that not being what others are looking for in a colleague. 100% focus on my kiddos! No apologies #tlap#REALedu
A2: @joliemorgan and DCG coaches introduced personalized pd and sharing thoughts on #ditchhw in front of peers was little intimidating, but well worth the work! #tlap
A2- A risk that I took this year was jumping in on Twitter chats and then sharing what I was doing/learning with my co-workers and strangers. It’s kind of scary to share your ideas hoping not to be judged. #tlap
A2: I made it through a challenging year to the door that opened to be an instructional coach for a K-8 school next year! I'm #superexcited#tlap#REALedu
A2: J totally changed the direction of my career path so that I could continue to gamify my classroom. I took a new job in a new school district and I can’t wait to get started #tlap#epsachieves#iste18#realedu
A2: I took on some district technology training projects to teach fellow teachers about #edtech. Gave some great sessions on Gsuite and other neat apps. #tlap
A2: Stepped outside of the box and revised curriculum incorporating innovative lessons with Ss choice. Experienced success and failures - learned from them all. #TLAP#ISTE18
A2- Starting a blog! I don't always feel like I have a message others want to hear. But getting positive feedback from my #PLN improved my self-confidence! #tlap
A2: My biggest risk this year was leaving a secure job, a newly built house & the only place I’ve ever lived to move to Singapore. If I’m going to be good for kids I need to spark my passion. That is traveling and connecting with others! 🇸🇬🇸🇬 #tlap#iste#iste18
A2: I took a risk this year and created a PD challenge to #gamifyPD, and it pushed both myself and Ts to try new things outside of our comfort zones. While some didn’t like it, many FLOURISHED with new ideas! #tlap
A2 I had some very strong personalities this year, but a risk I took was going to complete flexible seating this year. From the moment they stepped in the room they chose their spot. #TLAP
A2: oh my goodness...so many risks!!! Writing #MLmagical, accepting new position as Tech Integration Coach for district, and being a People’s Choice presenter for #iste18 were among the BIGGIES!
#tlap#REALedu#xplap
A2: I tried to change the lens of the campus by creating a team of teachers to educate & implement restorative practices. As a new concept, there was resistance. #TLAP
A2: A big risk I recently took was presenting at my first conference!! I loved being able to share with others about my #globalcollaboration journey! I’m eager to do it again! #tlap#REALedu
Hi! #tlap Andrea Paulakovich, Passionate Instructional Coach from Kansas. My favorite experience this year was facilitating a PopUP PD w/shark tanks @burgessdave@TaraMartinEDU@casas_jimmy. They joined our teachers via GHO to discuss how to redefine the 1st days of school.
A2: A risk well worth taking was the release of our #LeadLAP guides! Lead with Culture by @jaybilly2 and Lead with Literacy by @mandyeellis have been amazing resources! #tlap
A2:
✨〰️❤️〰️☠️〰️❤️〰️✨
“Our students can teach us so much about our teaching practice and life in general if we are willing to listen.” -@TaraMartinEDU
Be vulnerable and open to student feedback! Learn from your students!
#REALedu#TLAP#EduGIFs#ISTE18
1) Transparency leads to vulnerability which leads to trust. So often in education we are told what to do, tell kids what to think, and then we question why there is no original thought or ingenuity. #bereal#tlap
Awww!! Would love to meet you F2F! Come to Lansing, MI real quick!! Just a few hours away!! We just missed each other, I left #ISTE18 this morning :( Will either of you be at #NPC18? We will meet up!! #REALedu#TLAP#Path2Serendipity
Thanks, Kristen! It was an unexpected EDU reflection as I refelcted in other areas of my life too. Thanks for reading! Heart you, girl! #RockNTheBoat#tlap

Q2: I applied for a job that I wanted but didn’t get and then took the risk of applying for another job I wanted. It was difficult but totally worth it!! #tlap
A2: Tried some new staff meetings this year with my staff. The last one was all about wellness. Teachers got to choose between yoga, art therapy and badminton. Turned into team building fun and "Can we do it again!" #tlap
i love being married to this guy right here. why because we both like doing #twitterchats he is the one that got me to try all these chats and even some new ones on my own #marriedteacherlife#tlap
A2: I took on some district technology training projects to teach fellow teachers about #edtech. Gave some great sessions on Gsuite and other neat apps. #tlap
A2: A risk I took was to present at NCTE as part of a panel with @nsteineke on using picture books to create classroom community in the HS. #tlap#REALedu
A2 I started my blog, I was scared no one would read it and it would be a flop, then @ShakeUpLearning read it and retweeted and it reached people in 8 different countries! #tlap
A2b: Another risk I took was presenting for a national conference. I had never presented for a group this size or in this style of presenting (theater style). Had to try some new things.
A3: Finding common ground with everyone. Looking for the positives - finding the good in each person I meet & every situation I experience. High fives and hugs are a must! #tlap#REALedu
A3: I share personal stories about past struggles, and always keep my office door open. As a principal, I hope all staff feel welcome to approach me at any time! #tlap
A2 I started my blog, I was scared no one would read it and it would be a flop, then @ShakeUpLearning read it and retweeted and it reached people in 8 different countries! https://t.co/h2OsYQnO5I#tlap
A3: My Ss know I'm not perfect! I trip over things, write down the wrong numbers in problems- I try to let them know it's okay to not be perfect! The "perfect" person is unapproachable and hard to relate to. #tlap
A2 We recently told our Assoc. Super that we want a new title. Out with Instructional Technology Facilitator and in with Digital Learning Coach. Looks like she is gonna go for it. YAY #tlap#REALedu
A2 #tlap#NewBeginnings#VBHasJoy🌻 Hi everyone! Akilah, from VA, popping in a little late-A risk I took this year was starting a new chapter-administrative journey-I begin July 1st...my heart is so full❤️
A3: I think it helps to listen more than you speak--people relate better when they feel they're being heard. Not saying I'm always successful, but I try! #tlap
A3: Being able to embrace your emotional intelligence to put yourself in the position of others can help you relate. Sharing stories of how you got through similar situations can make people open to suggestions. #tlap#REALedu
A2: I took a risk and hosted a webinar this school year. Definitely different from teaching or presenting live, but I’m so happy I did it! #tlap#RealEDU
A2: I presented at the @ilprincipals first ignite session! Timing my presentation to auto advancing slides was an amazing experience, but required me to push my comfort zone #tlap
A2: This year I completely transformed my computer room into an innovation lab. I had NO CLUE how it would all end up, but WOW - it was transformational! Check it out! https://t.co/4iS7y4bYGE#tlap#iste18
A3: I try to be relatable by finding common ground with my students. Greeting them in the hall. Finding ways to be visible in their lives beyond my classroom (i.e., other school events, recitals, concerts, games, etc.) #tlap
A3 tell them stories of yourself. Tell them times you failed and messed up. It makes you feel human to them, it also gives you a chance to share how you overcame. #tlap
A3 I always admit when I am wrong. I also have lunch with my Ss, weekly, to learn more about them, their interests. They ask me to try new things they are interested in. #tlap
A3: Oh my I mess up... fail... try again. I laugh, cry, worry alongside my people big and small. I stop and remember that all stories are different and unfold as such so we need to listen to one another. #tlap#REALedu
A3: I love getting to know the latest trends with the students, especially the dance trends. I know they are laughing AT me instead of with me when I try them, but they always encourage me and say that I’m doing a great job. #tlap#iste18
A3 this year my S's and i talked about being friends with people on FB vs friends with people in real life. we talked about the importance of being friends and having discussions when we disagree. it was a very powerful conversation & my S's brought alot to the discussion. #tlap
A3 I never meet a stranger. I’m a talker and people supporter. I share my struggles and how they’ve made me who I am today. I’ll encourage you too! #Realedu#tlap
During my second read of @burgessdave's #TLAP, he discusses creativity in "Ask and Analyze." It is a great reminder that ANYONE is capable of being creative and bringing that creativity to the classroom, you just have to be willing to do so. @dbc_inc#KirkROAR#HeardItFromHankins
A3: Oh my I mess up... fail... try again. I laugh, cry, worry alongside my people big and small. I stop and remember that all stories are different and unfold as such so we need to listen to one another. #tlap#REALedu
Coming in late to #tlap on A2 I took a risk at the end if the year and went for a new position in a new district. I'd planned to pursue a position working with older grades at some unknown point down the road but something opened up this year and I went for it.
A2: I stopped saying no and always said yes. Except for when my 6 yo old asks for 3 pieces of candy at 3 am. Then I say no. 😂 no but seriously. What the ss asked me to do was amazing and would hwve not happened had I not changed that mindset. #tLap
A: I share stories about myself as a student- my struggles and challenges. I share with them who I am as a person and use IG to show them my personality... Even out of class time! #tlap#REALedu
A3 I try my best to practice listening. I have to know what they are about so I can start relating to THEM and then help them relate to me. #tlap#REALedu
A3. I'm relatable when I'm honest, when I show my colleagues and students that I stuggle, like them, and I need their help to get though the worst of it. #TLAP#BeReal
A2: I took a risk by being a part of one of the Mercury Redesign school redesign teams with the mission to reframe what school looks like in the state of KS. It was intense, scary, frustrating and awesome all at the same time. #tlap
A3: Being relatable means establishing relationship with your audience. Spend time with folks/students to work with them where they are at. Celebrate victories and relationships #tlap
A2: Sharing my personal stories on my blog. #tlap Embarking on reading/writing about all of the #dbc50summer books w/@iluveducating. Designing a PD-On Demand website w/@RHuffIRT.
A2 My biggest risk this year has been putting myself out there through my blog and twitter chat https://t.co/F4bbs4f4zm I was scared to allow people to read my writing and then I realized the goal is to connect and reflect! I have ❤️ it so much #champforkids#tlap
A2 - We had our secondary staff focus on their own learning and growth by creating personalized PD. Teachers chose how they wanted to impact students, not the same district PD for every teacher. We differentiated PD and nailed it! #tlap
A1: Being real means being authentic, genuine and unashamed of what you say or how you act. It’s being vulnerable and doing what’s right in your heart regardless of what others say. #TLAP
A3: Every day of my life!! I love sharing stories with my students, letting them know about the ups and the downs. I’m not good at the facade thing. What you see is what you get! #tlap#realedu
A3: I love sharing stories from past experiences and love hearing the stories of others. It’s easy to share stories at my school since I graduated from the district 2001. Plus, the Ss love looking at my old yearbooks! #tlap
A3: Being relatable means being open...
People want to know that you have failed as much as you succeeded...they want to see beyond the "Facebook Story" and know they are seeing the flaws and all!
#tlap
A3: I’m honest with them. I try to connect with them through their interests. When I don’t have that interest in common, I encourage them to be my teacher. #TLAP
Being relatable to me means accepting highs, lows, and in-betweens about myself and sharing those with my 8th graders. They need to know I’m just as human and insecure at times as they are. Showing my humanity to my kiddos builds relationships and makes me relatable. #TLAP
A3: I try to own my shortcomings. But also my strengths. People really want to help (right @JoyKirr?!) & when I need it, they jump in! But also, I know what I do pretty well. Because I also like to help! Both aspects make me feel REAL. #ISTE#REALedu#tlap
A3- I try to stay true to who I am. Whether teaching my kids, or presenting to other adults, I don't put on a false front- I am who I am, mistakes and all! #tlap
A3: “Relatable” has a lot to do with maintaining an ‘open door’ policy, remaking non-judgemental, listening with intent, and being ‘down to earth’! #tlap
A2: My long-term professional goal is to teach teachers.I have been trying to immerse myself in opportunities to practice leadership and coaching.I risked applying for positions at my school and in my district that I didn't think I would get, but did end up getting! #TLAP#BeREAL
A.3 From day one students I let students know that what I do in teaching them is for the very selfish means of protecting my future golden years by making them better thinkers and better LEARNERS. The RELATIONSHIP begins.... #tlap
#tlap A2 took a risk this year letting Ss choose new seating for the library. Got lots of input and it was a huge success. I even got worried after placing the order and tried to cancel it but was too late. And the end result was a huge success.
A3: Smile, be easy to talk to, avoid being opinionated, being optimistic, willing to compromise, agree to disagree, be sensitive to those around me, carry my perspective with confidence not conceit. BE NICE! #TLAP#REALedu
A3) My Ss see me make mistakes often and own them. They know I can’t spell, they see me be silly, and I share my family and life during morning meeting with them #TLAP
Haha, absolutely! That GIF is supposed to be excitement, not frustration, lol. It provides an amazing global view on teacher life and admin life. #TLAP
I cannot even imagine the tremendous impact that had on Ss achievement and enjoyment of the class up to the very last minute!! So awesome! #REALedu#TLAP#ISTE18
Q4 How might you empower those you serve to embrace this quote?
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu#tlap
2) we all have to decide which battles are worth fighting and which will allow us to come back and fight another day. This year, I was all in on endurance. If education doesn’t endure, it’s not real learning. #myfight#tlap
A3. I tell stories about myself to the Ss to try and relate to them and let them know we are not perfect! We all make mistakes, own up to it! If we model problem solving to our Ss, our Ss can also learn from us. #tlap
A2: After taking so much time creating “perfect” rubrics with all levels of indicators, I (unknowingly) transitioned to (what I would learn are called) single point rubrics to only show the high expectations I have for ALL my students. #tlap
Yes! This is so important, Todd! If we believe "failure is an opportunity to learn" we have to be willing to embrace and share our failures, too! #iste18#tlap
A3: I show my Ss that I’m human and make mistakes and struggle just like they do, just in different ways. I share stories of my mistakes or disappointments and discuss how I overcame them. I model that even when obstacles get in my way, I don’t let that stop me. #TLAP#REALedu
A2: A risk I took this year was to apply for a position at my daughters school. There were unattended consequences but at the end of the day, even though I didn’t get the job, I know in my heart I did what was best for myself and more importantly my family! #tlap
A3: Empathy made me relatable, because I'd BE there with them, listen to their stories, delight in their presence and celebrate their successes, show compassion at their hurts and offer kindness and hope. They all wanted me to know their stories! #tlap
A3: I try to teach as often as I can by providing PD and model lessons. I also smile, laugh (sometimes at myself), high five, make mistakes, and HAVE FUN!! #tlap
A2: @PollyRyonMS teachers added mini “magical” transformations per content...that created 7 magical learning experiences in ONE year for our 687 6th graders! #tlap
Q4 How might you empower those you serve to embrace this quote?
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu#tlap

A4: Failure will always happen and is a chance to evolve and grow....there’s no shame in that. It’s all about how you model what you do after a failure! #tlap
A4:I share my own failures and how I reflect, grow, and evolve. I did this with my students and will strive to do the same as an administrator—hopefully without too many failures! 😂 #tlap
A4: #tlap#REALedu Honestly, Tara, you have to model it & inspire people to see the beauty in it. For example, #JoyAmbassadors🎉are teacher leaders who model vulnerablity;it's one of their superpowers-tagging some that bring me pure #joy
A4) mistakes are learning opportunities so I NEVER penalize them for practice. If I did I would be a hypocrite! I make unintentional mistakes all the time in front of the kiddos. I don’t sweat it at all. I’m super casual so they can see we don’t have to freak out. It’s life!
A4: being vulnerable makes us more relatable and leaves Ss and Ts ready and willing to trust us and our motives and guidance; we need to show our own vulnerability and growth/recovery to those we expect vulnerability from #TLAP
A4: To empower others, a culture of safe failure must occur. If others are able to try new things without judgment, learning from mistakes, problem solving & collaboration increase. #TLAP#RealEDU
A4. I teach at an all-boys high school, so vulnerability and acceptance of it is a tough sell. But it starts with me and showing them that there are cracks in my armor, but together, we can mend any cracks and become stronger and more closely bonded to each other. #TLAP#BeReal
Q4 How might you empower those you serve to embrace this quote?
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu#tlap

A4 It is important for Ss to realize that they will fail at some point. They need to learn the importance of failing forward. I would relate by discussing the setbacks that I have had in overcoming my weight. Letting them see me and how the struggle is real. #tlap
I really want you to come to Lansing for my presentation tomorrow to make me look this awesome! LOVE this! You are so talented Kim!!

A2: I took a risk on May 24th (after a #KidsDeserveIt chat the night before) and turned in my letter of retirement. It took great courage to leave my school family of 17 years, but as I launch myself into my encore career, I'm so SO glad for that leap of faith. #tlap
A4) It’s about taking the time to teach kids that Fail means First Attempt In Learning and that you can and you will do things in your own way at your own time! #tlap
Q4 How might you empower those you serve to embrace this quote?
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu#tlap
A3: I listen to conversations and I jump right in with my 2 cents. I smal walk around my roOm. Amazing what happens when you leave your seat or the front of the room! #tLap
Q3: Being Relatable means putting your guard down and allowing yourself to connect with others on an individual level. Relationships begin with the willingness to make connections and to nourish those personal connections. #TLAP
A4: So much wisdoms here. Failure is one thing. It’s what we do with the lesson that counts! Sharing the story of transformation leads to REDEMPTION. #REALedu#tlap
A3: When students come to me with an academic or personal struggle, I try to think of a story from my life that could somehow relate to theirs. I also try to bring in personal connections regarding the topic of the lesson. #TLAP#REALedu
A4: By modeling what it looks like in a classroom so they can see that quote in action! Also by continuing to share your what came next. You will have some who may not see but sometimes you have to focus on the willing & build capacity! #tlap
A4: You need to share how you have learned from your mistakes. Being vulnerable in how you worked to improve on a failure or overcome a mistake. Empower others by supporting them, nurturing them and celebrating their successes (and failures). #tlap
A4: Failure isn't final. We must be cheerleaders and encourage others to keep trying. Everyone has failed and by sharing our stories, we can inspire others. #TLAP#ISTE18
A4: One of our class mantras this semester (repeated together at the beginning of each session) was "Fail Forward!" Ss talked about mistakes as "forward fails" and explained what they learned / how they changed #tlap#iste18
Way to go Mandi!! With great risk can come great reward!! Let me know if you'd like any help getting ready for an interview!! We got you girl! #REALedu#Booksnaps#TLAP#ISTE18#Path2Serendipity
#REALedu#tlap Q4) infusing a culture of wanting to do better and learning from each other. Get in each other’s classrooms, talk to eachother, play off of each other’s strengths!
A4: I absolutely love this quote! It’s about how and what you do with adversity shows your true character! Its Anot about the failure, it’s about failing forward #tlap#iste18#realedu
#tlap Isn't that the real challenge? Being able to pick yourself up after a failure, to reassess the situation, to create a new outcome that's hopefully better than the last. We have to be willing to share that part of the story as models and give room for others to do the same
Q4 How might you empower those you serve to embrace this quote?
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu#tlap

Q2)
I started teaching in the community college. AP is a full time position, and I took the risk to add one more challenging task on my plate, it is a different way to serve.
A4 support their search for solutions! Don’t try to fix their failures but help them sort through possible solutions! Be there to bounce ideas off of and listen to reflections! Be available! #TLAP
A4: CONTEST - Whoever fails but can then shares how they learned from their mistake wins the FBL Award for the week/month/year (FBL - Failed But Learned) !#TLAP#REALedu .... make it meaningful with teachable moments!
A4: Oh lord! I feel like adding: What do you think? at the end of the vulnerability shifts the focus to camaraderie. Maybe? What do you think 🤣 #tlap#iste#iste18
Q4 How might you empower those you serve to embrace this quote?
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu#tlap
A1: authenticity in my interactions, conversations, relationships and instruction. Staying true to my beliefs and values while remaining respectful and open to differences of opinion. Speaking my truth and recognizing the experiences and perspectives of others. #tlap#REALedu
A4) It also means they need to learn that the risk is worth it! “You miss 100% of the shots you don’t take” even if it ends terribly you learn and bounce back stronger #tlap
A4: Share your experiences. Stay positive and with a growth mindset. Validate the feelings of those around you and show them you are a team, working through failures together. #TLAP
A4: Group problem solving with a focus on "how can we take what we've done and make it better?"is a great way to start. Stop thinking of setbacks as failures and start embracing them as part of the journey. #tlap
Q4 If we don’t show Ss and Ts that it’s ok to fail, they won’t try it themselves. I admittedly have a really hard time with this, but I’m working on it!!! #TLAP
I’m late to the party, but my favorite #TLAP experience this year was using creepy music to set the mood and my skull and bones jacket and goth dress/makeup as a costume to get my 8th graders engaged in “The Tell-Tale Heart”.
A4: Failure leads to success. Quitting is not an option in my room. Ss learn that we push through and when they succeed they know their biggest cheerleader in school is loud and ready to publicly praise right then and there. #tlap
My mama told me this all the time as a kid... "It's not what happens to you, but what you react to it that defines you and makes you who you are" #tlap#REALedu
A5: My daughter teaches kickboxing!
I had to train myself to use the WAIT (Why Am I Talking?) acronym, to listen to understand rather than respond! It worked to train me to be a better listener.
#tlap
A4: We learn so much through the process rather than the product. Reflection is truly the key to move forward- don’t get stuck in the past and what was, focus on what it can be and make it happen! #TLAP#REALedu
#tlap A4: Tell YOUR story. Share your F.A.I.L.S (First Attempt In Learning). Share your personal growth. Apologize. Write about it...share your writing.
"Exposing vulnerably isn't about glorifying our failures; it's about sharing what came next." #REALedu
A2 I returned to the classroom and at the end of the year realized it wasn't where I could really shine as a teacher. I decided to return to being a "tech teacher". It's hard to try something new and admit that it wasn't the right time for change. #Growth#tlap#REALedu
A4: during tennis season I always focus on failing/losing/having a bad day is going to happen, but it’s all about the Response when you have another opportunity. #tlap
A2: being honest with myself and with colleagues when feeling overwhelmed professionally and asking for help. Seems silly, but that was a huge step outside of my comfort zone. #tlap#REALedu
A5 One way I relate to students is to know their struggles as struggling learner. The same is true with adults. I don’t know it all. I want to learn from you. #Realedu#tlap
A5 We all come from different backgrounds and learn things in different ways. That is what makes learning personal. I model how I learn In order to own my learning. #tlap
A5: My daughter has sensory issues and developmental delays. This has completely changed me as a teacher and a person. I try to give everyone the benefit of the doubt and can have a conversation w/anyone. I’m so much more understanding to issues! #TLAP#REALedu
A4 .we try to teach students Growth Mindset and perseverance we have to model it. They have to see we don't know everything, we try try again until we get it #tlap
A2: I took a risk on May 24th (after a #KidsDeserveIt chat the night before) and turned in my letter of retirement. It took great courage to leave my school family of 17 years, but as I launch myself into my encore career, I'm so SO glad for that leap of faith. #tlap
A5 This is so key for all educators, but especially counselors. I am present when talking to the Ss. I am interested in all they have to say. Many times Ss come to me frustrated b/c their T doesn't listen to them. Give them time to be heard. Give them a voice! #tlap
You share the entire process, not just the final result. Great things happen with highs and lows. Start with small changes to set the stage for greatness! #tlap#iste18
So glad I could jump on for a bit. I think I may be in Jurassic World...definitely going to fasten my seatbelt! #tlap@casas_jimmy if I don’t show up tomorrow to #VASSP18 now you know why😂
A5 An acquired skill for teachers and students. Listening is for sure important to learning. I think it's important to listen to non-like minded people as well and your tribe. #tlap
A5: Before responding to anyone you are talking to, try to clarify their position which allows you gain more understanding and not give your knee jerk reaction. :"So what you are saying is.." "Is there anything else?" #7Habits Seek first to understand.. then be understood #tlap
A5: Regardless of where they
start, ALL students are capable
of accomplishing extraordinary
things in their future.

A5: It is tough to Listen to Learn and not to judge, but it is important. As a HS T, I get plenty of chances to model this in REAL time. Help Ss. Don't judge them. It's easier when I tell myself that they are kids. Their brains are still developing. It's tougher w/adults. #tlap
A4: Vulnerability is best when you trust those around you! When we are vulnerable amongst our peers or those we serve, then they are more likely to be vulnerable themselves. #tlap
A5: I try to find the why behind the situation and look at things from positive intent. Rather than judge, really listen to what the individual is trying to communicate. #TLAP
A5: I want all around me to know (both colleagues and Ss) that you “come as you are” and we grow together from there. We don’t all innovate or evolve at the same rate or level. But any pace forward is the right direction for kids. #tlap
Yes, yes, yes! It is so hard not to say anything in response... just pause an extra couple seconds and let them talk it all out. Usually folks don't need your advice, just your ear. They can talk through the problem and figure it out themselves. #tlap#REALedu
A5) I have tough kids that is a fact but where many look at my kids and write them off I listen and learn. I relate to them and trust them. They just want to be respected and given a chance. #EveryoneNeedsAChampion#tlap
A5: When listening to learn (and trying not to judge!), ask clarifying questions to make sure you're hearing what the speaker actually means not what YOU think they mean #tlap
A5: By listening and showing compassion. Letting them know that I’m there to help them overcome struggles whatever hey may be. Also, being relatable helps with this too! #tlap#ISTE18
Awww, Allyson, you always make me feel amazing! I was terrified to make these changes, but WOW! So glad I did! Can’t go back now; having SO. MUCH. FUN! #tlap#iste18
A5-I think that we build relationships and learn so much when we stop judging and look stem to learn. We all have different views and experiences, when we come together without judgement we can all learn and grow.#TLAP
A5 I model this principle by not being distracted when my S's are talking. i really try to keep an open mind. i have learned that not all T's do this and try to make it so my S's feel heard. #tlap
A5: This is tough for me because I'm 100 mph, but I have to slow my roll and make sure that I really Hear what is being said. This makes me better. Often what is being said isn't in the words... pay attention #tlap
A5) be comfortable with silence and truly listen. Allow time for pause and reflection. Have questions at the ready and get to the heart of what is making them tick #BeComfyBeingUncomfy#REALedu#tlap
A5. I let my Ss know I don't know everything and love learning from them. I want them to teach me and I teach them. The classroom needs to be a symbiotic relationship...a loving, breathing organism. #TLAP#BeReal
A5: @kimdarche has perfected the listening a coach must do! Loved being able to learn from her!! We must listen and show we are focused on their words not just going through the motions. This means tilting screens, making eye contact & engaging by posing ? as needed #tlap
A5:I’ll admit it’s sometimes hard not to judge, so I actively try to apply perspective and context before choosing how I respond. We’re human and innately judge, but that doesn’t mean we can’t control what we say and do and look at as an opportunity for all to grow. #tlap
