The #INeLearn hashtag is used for both asynchronous sharing and synchronous conversations. Include #INeLearn in your tweets if you want to share resources or questions with Indiana educators and school leaders. Asynchronously, the #INeLearn hashtag provides educators across the state of Indiana a central space for sharing. On Thursday evenings beginning at 8 CST/9 EST when you use the #INeLearn hashtag, you are joining a live conversation--the #INeLearn Twitter Chat. For one hour, we interact in real time having a virtual discussion.
Welcome to tonight’s #INeLearn chat! I’m Amy, principal/lead learner from Angola, your moderator tonight!
We are finishing our series on Digital Opportunities! Tonight, our topic - Extending Opportunities Beyond the School Year! #INeLearn
Hello, #INeLearn. Shoutout to those showing up for tonight's chat. Thunderstorms are rolling in down here. Michelle with the #INeLearn team-will chat in all weather conditions.
Q1: Digital leaders are always learning. How do you extend your own learning opportunities throughout the school year? Have digital options changed your approach to learning? If so, how?
#INeLearn
It's that time in the school year. I suspect there are a number of award nights, concerts, etc happening #INeLearn Lurkers, tonight is YOUR night! Say hello.

R1: when still in the classroom I would always try to set aside time every week or so to "play" with something new I'd heard about or seen someone else using. When I discovered Twitter, that was the game changer. #INeLearn

#INeLearn A1 Being able to take our Ss beyond the classroom walls. This year able to participate in two cultural conversations. One with a class in Argentina 🇦🇷 over gender inequality & one in Monterrey Mexico 🇲🇽 over current issues. Students enjoyed sharing views/listening.
Q2: Digital leaders are always trying to find ways to make themselves better, even when school is not in session. What are ways you extend your own learning opportunities during the summer?

R2: Summer of E-Learning conferences (obvi), but also end up playing around with some sites I run across in my online travels. Reading too, sometimes ed books, sometimes other stuff. #inelearn
#INeLearn A2 Looking forward to attending several Summer of eLearning conferences. Also accompanying my wife to LA for her conference. Goal to visit and connect with the Reagan Library to see if we could put something together for our 80s class.
R2: I spend a lot of my free time reading! Also I am in three education summer classes right now that I am really enjoying. I just recently got a job at the youth center in Martinsville to get more experience around kids! #INeLearn
R3 I'm looking forward to meeting more educators who are sharing their expertise this summer! Have you all seen the presenter Flipgrid for https://t.co/Lb8gcrw4Sd Let's Amplify #INeLearn

#INeLearn A3 Shout out to both @LREC18 and @eVillageNWI conferences. Both will have excellent keynote speakers and presentations. Attending/presenting for the first time @LakeMiTechCon in July. Always looking for new ideas!
R3: three summer of eLearning session (to participate and present), ISTE, and Instructive arm with a trip to Europe thrown in where I want to play with the 360 camera and creating images and videos our teachersight be able to use. I'm just looking to soak up all I can.#INeLearn
I also encourage my #INeLearn friends to seek out Be Internet Awesome in Indiana sessions this summer! There is a great group of leaders helping launch a new project! #DigCit

Q4: Instructional Design for ELearning: Essential guide to creating successful eLearning courses is one on my list. This book and others will be a great resource for our future PD. https://t.co/k1AHUF7sxf#INeLearn
R4 Honestly, I'm looking for some recommendations. I'm reading some non-edu things that apply to networking and collaboration. I am excited about the #INeLearn book club selection-I respect the authors.
I’m about half way through. Stopped due to busy time of year, but can’t wait to pick it up again and keep going! I’ve been really trying the small breaks in the day to boost my productivity! #INeLearn
Will do. I have a pretty good idea what mine will look like, but I want to soak up as much as I can from smart people who've been doing elearning days for a while. #INeLearn
I’ve been reading a lot by @JonGordon11 lately. Love his positive leadership! If you haven’t already, check out The Energy Bus and The Power of Positive Leadership! #INeLearn
A4. Hopping in late from other chats. Hi all! Makers with a Cause is a PD book in my summer #tbr pile. I hope to implement many of the ideas in my school’s #makerspace next year & find ideas for tie ins with humanitarian projects some of my teachers do. #INeLearn
R5: Invite them face to face to attend or present at summer workshops/conferences. Many just need words of encouragement to get out there and give it a go. #INeLearn
I’ve read The Culture Code, Radical Candor, Great at Work this year. 🤓 All three have 2018 pub dates, are non-edu, and talk about networking and collaboration #INeLearn
R5 Make sure your colleagues and friends know about the #INeLearn hashtag and SHARE your learning, processing, and great finds over the summer. Even share awesome things you do for fun.
R5: PD has been something I've tried to be very intentional about this year. For the first time I can remember we are offering optional, in-house opportunities for our Ts. All are invited to learn about @gsuite and secondary Ts who use @CanvasLMS will have a day. #INeLearn
I am so excited for the teachers from #EastPorterCo who are presenting this summer! #INeLearn I felt as though an entire new world came into view when I started sharing by presenting.
A2. Conferences through @INeLearn around the state, @EdChangeGlobal, and usually I participate in #notatiste, which I definitely recommend, but this summer I’ll get to go to @ISTE. And lots of brainstorming, book reading, and taking some needed down time too!#INeLearn

Q6: Digital leaders are continually seeking ways to extend learning opportunities for their students. What are ways you support your students’ learning during the summer?
#INeLearn
A1. Twitter, Twitter chats, webinars, blogs, books, @INeLearn book club, etc. I’ve started always keeping an eye open for digital resources or tools and finding ways to curate them. #INeLearn
R5: Communication is such an easy way to spread knowledge. Spark a conversation with a stranger about something you know! I have learned in college that you can learn so much just by talking to new people. #INeLearn
A5. Share out ideas. Encourage others to attend or present at conferences. Tag them in things of interest to them if on Twitter or shoot them an email. Save some things to share out in the fall. #INeLearn
R5: We've definitely got some on-fire-for-learning teachers in the math department, and our tech coaches (building & district) do a great job of baiting the hook. I've just been trying to low-key share some things I've picked up, and hope enthusiasm is contagious. #inelearn
I'm trying to empower our teacher leaders to feel more confident in sharing what they know. And at the same time let our reluctant learners find someone they are comfortable working with. #INeLearn
I was part of a conversation at Purdue last week in which an edu professor expressed how important it is for us to actively learn instead of simply saying "life long learning" not just a buzz phrase! #INeLearn
I've seen a number of districts offering Makerspace and STEM camps-if yours isn't, check with your local library and see if they have plans #INeLearn For older learners there are so many online offerings: MOOCS, challenges, etc
A6. I’ve been promoting the public library #SummerReading program. I’ve found some free #ebook or #audiobook resources to share. I’ll share things I make this summer or read and encourage them to make and read on Instagram. I have summer reading recs on Canvas. #INeLearn
R6: since I’m teaching new curriculum next year, I’m doing lots of planning and preparation. I’m planning on reaching out to my Ss and Ps in early July to set expectations for them for the upcoming year. #INeLearn

#MishawakaWay educators share your summer learning and growth with the #INeLearn and follow the learning of peers statewide. So many amazing learning opportunities this summer!

Q7: What needs have you identified this school year or ideas you have researched that you would like to try next school year to extend learning opportunities for your students?
#INeLearn
Amen to that! When I completed my MA with Pepperdine, I had a whole new understanding of what it means to be a learner! #hardfun#INeLearn the struggle is real AND it's important!
I was part of a conversation at Purdue last week in which an edu professor expressed how important it is for us to actively learn instead of simply saying "life long learning" not just a buzz phrase! #INeLearn
Couldn’t agree more! Our Ss are outstanding and we could really tap into their ideas and foster knowledge even more to empower them as leaders! #INeLearn
R7 Kind of a one off, but with the iCAP being available now, I want to find/design more resources to support students making informed choices about online courses #INeLearn
R7: we are switching to Chromebooks & implementing @CanvasLMS next fall. We plan to create & share short tutorials to guide Ss through these new tools for their learning & also hosting parent nights to bring them on board. Baby steps, but I want to build a foundation. #INeLearn
Q7: What needs have you identified this school year or ideas you have researched that you would like to try next school year to extend learning opportunities for your students?
#INeLearn
Wrap Up: We know that leaders must take time for themselves to rejuvenate in order to be their best for those they serve. What is one thing you can commit to this summer that will be about taking time for yourself?
#INeLearn
A2. Conferences through @INeLearn around the state, @EdChangeGlobal, and usually I participate in #notatiste, which I definitely recommend, but this summer I’ll get to go to @ISTE. And lots of brainstorming, book reading, and taking some needed down time too!#INeLearn
R7: I plan on continuing with flipped instruction, and I want the videos to be more compelling. There will always be students who will "go thru the motions", but I want to hook as many as I can. One way to extend the timeframe for math learning. #inelearn
