    A1: students need check in points for them to stop and see where they are in comparison to what is being asked of them. I like reflection at the end of projects as a way for personal growth but instructor feedback to better serve students. #LearnLAP

    A1: Being intentional about building in enough time for reflection - it shouldn’t be rushed! Having students reflect on their mastery daily through the use of a mastery tracker. Modeling reflection as a teacher (and making changes so Ss see the purpose!). #learnlap

    A1: One of the most important things we can do is provide Ss with TIME to reflect. Reflection is an integral part of the inquiry cycle, yet far too often it gets neglected in a push to "fit more in." We are actually accomplishing much less when we neglect reflection. #LearnLAP

    A1: As a history teacher, what we have previously learned continues to affect us. As I ask students to draw on a previous lesson or unit, they are bound to reflect on what/how they learned it. #learnlap

    A1: We promote a culture of reflection by ensuring clarity of learning & that students know what the need to do to succeed, & ensuring students have time to use this to identify what they've done well & where they need to improve. Then set goals for themselves. #LearnLAP

    I agree and feel grateful that in my class I can always find time (or make it). However, in talking with math teachers, I find that they feel constrained bc their content is so rushed/packed. How do we shift the culture? Our Ss need it. #learnlap

    A1: At the end of major papers/projects, my Ss reflect on the standards and how well they met them. Only then do I share my own feedback. Then we discuss what their next goals are. #LearnLAP

    I forget sometimes how much we have to model over and over again for Ss. This is my weakness a high school T. They get so many different inputs. I forget they need a lot of repetition for it to stick. #LearnLAP

    Yes! And it's especially good if they can actually 'see' where they are. Are use all their senses to self evaluate. You can tell this kid has practiced & improved her comm skills. #LearnLAP

    A1- anytime you have to really explain the WHY you do something, along with the what to a genuine audience - real peer or near peer mentoring. And I agree that purposeful, timely reflection is key. #LearnLAP

    Agree that self assessment of mastery is HUGE! Way more important than our feedback. Equally important is helping kids reflect on their process - what went well, what they would improve, what they’d do differently. #learnlap

    It’s a tough balance. Some people commit to posting one a week or once every other week. That doesn’t work for me...the deadline takes the fun out of it. I simply blog when I’m inspired...may be twice a week or once a month. #LearnLAP

    I’m in MS but used to work with college Ss. I struggle with this, too! I think it has to do with the fact that they’re in 6-8 diff classes with 6-8 diff procedures. It’d be awesome if ind. schools could teach a set of reflection practices to be used in every class #learnlap

    One succes I have found for students to reflect on their learning is by offering constructive and actionable feedback on their work. It helps them see both their strengths and areas for improvement. #LearnLAP

    I do all I can to reduce the power that grades hold over students, a power that often prevents them from doing their best work. Students self-report their grades based on my feedback + their own self-reflection (sometimes with me face-to-face). This demystifies grading. #LearnLAP

    I love PBL. Reflection is a key element in it according to @BIEpbl. It was an element I was horrible at for most of my career. Have focused on it a lot the last three years. I now know how to make it ongoing in a PBL thanks to BIE. #LearnLAP

    One of the techniques we use in #HumLit1819 is a Commonplace Book, which is a kind of thought space + metacognitive journal to keep track of thinking throughout the course. I make comments on the side with Google Docs + create dialogues with students about their work. #LearnLAP

    A6: I have never really had them look on past reflections. I do spiral warm-ups from previous topics & we will discuss. In the learning support classroom we do budgets so they have a chart the complete weekly. This way they can monitor their spending and earnings. #learnLAP

    A6: By keeping student reflections (images, videos, drawing, writing, etc) in a portfolio (digital or other), Ss can go back and look at their learning over time and select items that show their growth over time. #learnlap

    A7: Tech is how I have encouraged student reflection. I have been able to receive more feedback from Ss because they feel more confident (sadly) behind the screen. It's hurtful for Ss who lack literacy skills and don't want to reflect due to spelling difficulties #LearnLAP

    A8: Ss don’t know how to do it because they do it so rarely. Some get frustrated because it’s hard. The trick is starting small + building into their routine. I also model reflection by asking for feedback on my teaching + then asking questions to help myself improve. #learnlap
