I've done a version of the name tag that @TechNinjaTodd has previously mentioned with teachers. It was a great way to break the ice when Ts first returned from break. Kept it visible so they would have something positive in times of need. #LeadLAP

A2: I would say that one of my most effective strategies takes place during lunch. As we walk to the cafeteria, I select one student to walk with. During this time, I have a 1-to-1 discussion with the student about anything going on in his/her life. The students love it. #leadlap

A2: I concentrate on being present in the moment and focus on asking purposeful questions during class, meetings, and conversations that break any preconceived assumptions. I ask questions that give me insight into their values, beliefs, frustrations, and goals. #LEADLap#REALedu
#LeadLAP A2. Many teachers lay down the lay with students on the first week. I take the week and create engaging activities to get to know them as a student and a learner. STEM or create a me collage, M&M sharing and 7 up writing are winners.
To have admin show a genuine interest in our activities in and out of school definitely adds value to the relationship! I love that you do this! So important! #leadlap#REALedu

A3: Value Individuality - I make a real effort to help teachers grow based upon their individual strengths, they don't need to clone the master T down the hall, they can be one using their own strengths and adapting strategies to their strength. #LeadLAP

A3 #LeadLAP#REALedu I empower students and teachers to try new things, take risks, you'll probably fall down but get back up. I try to model this everyday myself.
A3: We used Garmstonâs Norms of Collaboration as a basis for the creation of our own norms. They helped us talk about how to collaborate, inquire, share ideas and value each other in respectful and productive ways. #leadlap
A3 Empower. Sometimes Ss and Ts need that little push to help them break barriers and push to new summits. Supporting others and believing in them can make all the difference #leadlap#REALedu
A3: As AP part of my duties also include athletics. I value individuality by not telling each coach, "You have to do it like this, and this, and this." I also like to ask deep questions to get staff to think and reflect. #LeadLAP

A3: value individuality: the role of choice has always been huge to me with students and adults. My early learning with #loveandlogic principles helps me put choice in academic contexts by letting Ss choose own books, activities and would like Ts to choose own PD. #LeadLAP
As a lead mentor:
Listen to Learn - honor new T celebrations (highs) and concerns (lows)
Empower - share resources to help Ts in their 1st year
Provide Accountability - 2x/semester, new Ts go on learning walks. 2x/semester, I observe their classroom & provide feedback
#LeadLAP

A3: I believe in empowering those around me!! I like to provide opportunities for my Ss to take control of their own learning & make their own discoveries! Additionally, I like to support my fellow Ts as they step up & take the lead!! Weâre better together! #LeadLAP#REALedu
A3: I love giving open exaltation by taking pics of Ts and Ss doing awesome stuff and sharing it out on Twitter, @Smore newsletter, at beginning of class, and giving f2f praise! So important we recognize each other and make people feel appreciated! #leadlap#REALedu#MLmagical
A3: Listen to Learn would be the one that I try to focus on. In every meeting I have, I set aside my agenda and my preconceptions to truly see the issue through the eyes of the other person. #enlightening#leadLAP

Mini golf, eating at Pizza Hut for a volleyball fundraiser, and we're having a cook out on the Fourth. Family friendly so staff can bring their spouse/kids. It's been good to get new people plugged in! #LeadLAP

E- Expose Vulnerability
Describe a time you had to quiet the critics (be it real people or in your own mind) and make the jump!
What was the impact of your splash upon those your serve?
#LEADlap#REALEdu@BethHouf@burgess_shelley@burgessdave
A4: Sometimes it's not critics of me, but of admin or the system. I listen, but purposefully do not join the conversation. I do look for ways to make the systems better. I try to talk about things that are going right. #LeadLAP
A3: EMPOWER! Empowering Ss of all ability levels to be self-advocates and self-determined in their own learning is a PRIORITY.When I lesson plan these concepts are always embedded in everything we do! I guide, but they learn to lead, and they learn so much more! #leadlap#REALedu
A4: Recently listened to @jasontoddgreen who challenged us to be vulnerable by asking ourselves about what we are willing to learn & unlearn to foster authentic generativity. #leadlap
A4 I tried starting a conversation with our campus staff by posting a Question of the Week on #flipgrid . Shared the task with another coworker. We had some response, but we will persevere and continue the concept next school year. #leadlap
Either have staff utilize google slides and make it theirs. Then use a slide show to discover eachother and their uniqueness. Itâs really cool to see the differences and similarities. #realedu#leadlap
A4: Last summer, I had just completed my second year of teaching. SDSU informed me that I had been selected to give an Ed Talk. I couldn't figure out why I deserved this recognition! I went back and forth in my head. Ultimately, I did it! https://t.co/45MpNcnmCU#LEADLAP
A4: When I first decided to "leave the classroom" my brain told me I was inadequate, especially going from a MS T to an elem IC. But it was my biggest year for growth and I learned a lot about myself and others! Silly brain! #LeadLAP
A4: Sometimes we are our worst critics! My greatest critic is fear and boy, what a year it's been overcoming THAT! Whether diving in as a keynote speaker, sending in a book proposal, or changing schools for next year, having a PLN cheer you on means the WORLD! #leadlap#realedu

#LEADlap#REALEdu@BethHouf@burgess_shelley@burgessdave
A4: I had a teacher who wanted sit-and-get PD rather than time to explore the interactive resources I provided and then create based on individual teaching context. Fortunately, superintendent was on my side and we moved forward, received great feedback from others. #LeadLAP

4b: starting Instagram, Twitter, YouTube channel etc in our district last few yearsâhas been a game-changer, but definitely unsure if would be well received #leadlap
A4: Quieted the critics in my own mind and spent this past year writing my first book #MLmagical to be released this Fall! đŤâ¨
So grateful to @dbc_inc for believing in me and giving me this amazing opportunity to share my story! â ď¸â¤ď¸ #LeadLAP#REALedu#tlap#xplap
A4 I wanted coding clubs and Mystery Skype for students. Ts were stretched thin, so I created a club. I also let a second grader create a Fantasy Football club. Some were skeptical, but several boys looked forward to school bc of the club. #leadlap
A4 This past week I started blogging again. I was fortunate to meet Vicky Davis at #iste18 and she told me to own my ideas and share them. So I stopped making excuses for myself and started typing! #REALEdu#LeadLAP
Genuis Hour and/or other time set aside for student choice in learning projects should be the new prescribed curriculum embedded in every master schedule in every school! #leadlap#REALedu
A4: 5 yrs. ago, a school I served at made me feel like I was not fit to be an educator. I actually resigned and decided to go into another field.
It's 2018, here I am...still an educator! I squashed the pesky voice in my head that told me I wasn't enough. #LeadLAP
A4: I need to quiet the inner-critic everyday! đ One specific time that comes to mind is when I joined Twitter. My inner-critic told me that no one would care about what I had to share. What I have learned here for this PLN has re-motivated me in my enthusiasm #LEADLap#REALedu
A4) I remember my 1st year teaching 5th. I was a 2nd year T &had no idea what I was doing. I recall looking up &down my hallway & I had no1 who was like me. I was loud, silly,I dressed up & had Ss on missions. I kept going & was given T of the month by a Ss. #LeadLAP
A4: Right now my district is taking the plunge and developing a beautiful, team-developed linguistically & culturally responsive MTSS protocol. The work is INCREDIBLE and I'm lucky to work with a truly empowering team of teacher-leaders who truly embody professionalism. #LEADlap

A4: When we expose vulnerability, we allow others to see that we are human, too. We make mistakes. We bruise and bleed. We survive. We get back up and try again! I wrote a little about valuing vulnerability here: https://t.co/tsVas9kdfc#leadlap#realedu#iste18

A4: I need to quiet the âinner criticâ every time I decide to share a new graphic. I worry that it could be better, there will be a mistake in it or someone will disagree with the message. I take a deep breath and share anyway. #Inclusion#leadLAPhttps://t.co/tuPsugWZJn
Yes! I started a blog this year too! I had all the same feelings...But, I love it! This is a great example of taking a risk! Stay with it! It is a great way to showcase the awesome things happening in your school! #REALEdu#LeadLAP
A4: When I first joined my current middle school, there was a huge focus on reading levels.đŤ Ss could only read from specific bins. I went against that tide and advocated for agency. Now, there are no bins and they are empowered to read what they love. #LeadLAP#kidsarepeopletoo
A4 99% of critics are whisper-quiet making each jump easier & easier! I have met so many amazing colleagues, parents, and students. I know my students better, my purpose better, and I wake up excited to go help out at work each day! We collaborate now across sites. FUN. #leadlap

YES! Your insights are GREAT, Anna! I think that's a common critic: "Nobody needs to hear what I have to say." Completely FALSE! We can learn SO MUCH from you! #realedu#leadlap
YES! Exactly! I loved the opportunity to share what was happening in our schoolâso many amazing things that could easily have been hidden under a cloud of test scores! #REALEdu#LeadLAP
#Goals This is on my professional bucket list!!! This summer I plan to start writing but I'm so intimidated! I'm constantly inspired and motivated when I see amazing leaders like you and all the Pirate camp going for it! #LEADlap
A4) I have always wanted to write about my experiences but never felt like I had any good ideas. I always felt like maybe I was too new as a teacher to share or my ideas werenât good enough. I finally pushed my fears aside and started presenting in my dist and blogging #LeadLAP
A5: I think being âapproachableâ is my number 1 goal when building relationships with being ârelatableâ as number 2. If you canât even begin the conversations, you canât move forward. Itâs easy to seem closed off when things get busy so it takes effort. #LeadLAP
A4: It's modeling vulnerability & empowering those on my team to be vulnerable. We value risk-taking, are REAL about, when you choose to be different, there will be critics. We have shared WHY, support one another, realize that challenges are just opportunities to grow. #LeadLAP
A5: I reject a one size fits all approach and seek to meet teachers where they are at. I tell them I am not asking them to throw out all the great things they are doing in the classroom, but to "level up" by trying one new thing at a time. Success breeds success. #LeadLAP
A5: That's a really good question. I have always been known as the "people" person, but apparently that was a turn off since I was too sociableSo for me I am more willing to listen and then show new ideas and show that they don't go always go right the first time #LeadLAP
Me too, Tara! I cannot express enough how much you all inspire me to focus on what is meaningful and possible, not just in my classroom, but in my relationships with people in my life. #LeadLAP#REALedu
https://t.co/YlaT9du6aT my head, I wear this billboard around me that says two things.. 1. Are WE doing what's best for kids? 2. How may I serve you? #leadlap
A5: It sounds kind've simple, but I just like being nice. :) I truly believe we have the power to change the world for good with kindness! Here are a few examples of kindness
from this week: https://t.co/EmQqlpHXMG#leadLAP#realedu#passionforkindness
This year, I started using @Wakelet to share all of the great things we were doing on social media! I published a new wake every Friday before I left the building! It was an awesome tool to showcase our branding efforts! #LeadLAP#REALEdu@TaraMartinEDU@burgessdave

You slayed LOTS of dragons writing and sharing your book with the world! Your words inspire! I was so blessed by the stories you shared - oh, how they inspired me to keep going, too! #realedu#leadlap
A5 I believe my brand to be my care and compassion for others and my desire to show appreciation for who they are, what they do, and how they treat others #Leadlap
A5: ZEN's the name. Grace is the game. I hope others know that I am a judgement free zone & LOVE to listen, lift, and love #EverybodyAlways.

#LeadLAP
A5: People know I care. I make a point of scheduling time to make positive phone calls home. I calendar visiting colleagues each day at the beginning of the year before or after school just to check-in and listen. #Leadlap
A5: I have an open-door policy and am super responsive and listen to anyone who wants to talkâone of the biggest though: king of positivity and finding solutions #leadlap
A5 I am genuine. I want others to know I'm "real" and always approachable. Kids know when something is not "real". Teachers and staff at my building take pride in being "Real". #LeadLAP#RealEdu#MCLeads
A4:Had a "lets get real" chat w/a parent, reminded although their kiddo is destined for greatness they are only 8!Kids need time to process their learning, apply it,generalize it & those things happen thru experiences, it does not mean something is wrong w/them! #leadlap#REALedu
A5: I think Ts see me as someone on their side and a support in any way they need. I try to keep it real and not sugar coat things. I let them know that it's ok if they don't know how to do something and we figure things out together. #LeadLAP#REALEdu
A5: I LOVE this question. I want to be seen as an encourager, a motivator, a dreamer, a cheerleader, a tryer of new things, an advocate (for Ss, Ts, and Parents) & a collaborator. #LeadLAP#REALedu
Oh my goodness, our all-boys classes would LOVE a Fantasy Football club! I would love more info if you would be willing to share! This is SO COOL! #realedu#leadlap
A5: I hope people would see me as a genuine, joy-filled educator that is passionate about making learning MAGICAL! #MLmagical#REALedu#leadlap#tlap#xplap
#LeadLAP A5. I hope people can see it is all about the students. From planning, relationships, lessons, goals, feedback, or results from learning. What is the best we can do to help STUDENTS be successfull?
Sorry to leave the party early today, so loved learning with you all! Have an awesome weekend and 4th! Remember the #LEADlap hashtag is open 24/7! Thank you @TaraMartinEDU for leading us today!
A5 I hope my brand is that I always want to get better & others feel they can approach me w ideas or suggestions for us to try. I want Ss to view going to the principal as a good thing. Even when there is a issue, I want them to look back and say I helped them succeed. #leadlap
#leadlap Q5 Hope they see a warm smile and ability to empathize and kindness. When there is a difference in language with many of our parents, a warm smile can go far.
I am SO excited to read you book, Tisha!! #MLmagical is on my must-have list FOR SURE! Your book needs to be on every bookshelf! It's going to be AMAZING!! #leadlap#realedu

A5) My brand I guess would be crazy hockey teacher...who isnât afraid to dance it out! Lol I try to be approachable by being willing to help others &give my time to create and help with school events. Iâm on the leadership team &I try to help the school the best I can #LeadLAP
A6: Despite the many problems and dark days, I keep trying. I have had my Ss tell me I am inspiring because they have seen things complete blown up in my face. Sometimes even literally and other Ts try as a result too. #LeadLAP
A5 #unlimitEDteacher I believe in an unlimited education. I believe we, as teachers, have made these limitations we now try to escape. I believe we imagine more limitations which keep us from trying. I believe in removing limitations to improve learning for our students #LeadLAP
A5: I hope that others can see that Iâm passionate, committed, & open! I want others to feel that they can come to me for ideas & support! My biggest thing is I want people to âJust Do YOUâ! I hope that I model being the best version of me! Donât try to compre! #LeadLAP#REALedu
I hope my team members see me as supportive and empowering. Itâs my job to provide resources and support when they need to climb a mountain. I want them to take risks and be solid teacher leaders #LEADlap#REALedu
Hey #LeadLAP, I invite you to join our global network of #EDULeaders. Visit https://t.co/IOnnoHUAEO for resources & searchable database of leaders to connect with, and/or sign up to share insight with our network.
A5b: I want everyone to know I will always make and support decisions that are best for kids and support a #cultureofyes where risk-taking and new ideas are supported #leadlap
A5: Approaching new staff and telling substitutes, "Thanks for being here," creates a culture others can approach me. Listen, but don't spread negativity. Some need to vent; if I do, it's in a journal, not to colleagues. #LEADLAP
A6 the reason I push so hard is that we donât have time to wait. Letâs move now! I havenât accomplished all the things I wanted for my school when my daughter was in K, now she is in another school (6th). We canât let Ss miss on opportunity. #leadlap
A6: My heart-healthy salt is believing that every single person reading this tweet has value, has purpose, has something to share that can make this world a better place. Let's work together to discover what that is then sprinkle it EVERYWHERE! #leadlap#realedu
A5: I believe everyone is doing the best they can. I hope people sense that from me and know that I believe in them and want to help remove any barriers in their way to keep doing well or to do even better. I want people to sense curiosity, compassion & kindness from me. #leadLAP
Hey #LeadLAP just jumping in. Great topic with @TaraMartinEDU and #REALEdu! Love this question:
A5: Hope they see an empathetic, nonjudgmental ear who is willing to hear their story and support their journey! #LeadLAP
A5: By getting to know my each through an investment in relationships. Also, by shining a light on my high admiration for Ts through appreciation, celebration, and recognition of the transformational work they do for students every day. #LeadLAP
A5: I hope that we are always thinking of our students first, making sure that #EveryFalconCounts and showing that #KindnessMatters in all that we do! We are educating studentsâchildren...We need to remember the humanity in what we do! #REALEdu#LeadLAP
A5: My brand is A SMILE. I hope that students and staff know that having A SMILE invites them into conversation and experience. #LEADLap#REALedu#TeachingWithASMILE
A5: I hope others see that I am willing to learn and try things out. I don't act like I know everything. I am humble and willing to share, collaborate, and grow my PLN. I am more focused on #gamification and #GBL, but those aren't my only interests. #pln#LEADLAP
A6 Connections. The impact that twitter has had on me this last year is invaluable. I went from feeling like I was stuck in a box to being able to reach out and make connections with others around me. Twitter has empowered me to share my learning with others #LeadLAP#REALEdu
A4 Unfortunately I was told a lot of my students couldnât do certain things based on their ability and we provided them wrong & shined in the process. #realedu#leadlap
You just made my eyes leak out all kinds of happiness! Thanks for being such an amazing and encouraging friend! Canât wait to share my #MLmagical story with the world! #REALedu#leadlap

A6: My heart healthy salt would be that everyone is ENOUGH. Just the way they are. Knowing you are enough, allows you to show up wholeheartedly and authentically.
#LeadLAP@BreneBrown
A5 Be present and encouraging. I love to greet others first thing and all day. Sometimes that acknowledgement makes a day or gives me insight. #realedu#leadlap
A6: Stories of what I have overcome in my personal life to commit to serving students and teachers inspires others to focus not on work-life balance but work-life fusion. I am still a parent when at work & an educator when at home. #LeadLAP
#LeadLAP A6. Increasing my own personal learning through DBC books and Twitter has inspired me to try and sprinkle new ideas everytime I find something great.
âthe best policy is to be transparent. Be humble. Be honest. Be you.â đ wise words by @TaraMartinEDU in #realedu! Keep sharing, friends... we are all better for it! #tlap#leadlap
A6: I want to sprinkle joy, passion, play into schools around the world to create MAGICAL learning experiences for all kids! #MLmagical#tlap#xplap#REALwdu#leadlap
A6: Smiles season the world with positivity. Sometimes when I am deep in thought, I don't smile, but can be reminded to do so. I believe in NOT waiting until December to smile. Smile on day 1 and everyday. #LEADLAP
A6) My passion is that I believe everyone can grow and learn. To me itâs about teaching Ss to be better people and stronger people who will shape the world. I love teaching and being the underdog because we will surprise you every time. #LeadLAP
"Just Do YOU!" YES! This is so great! I love the best version of you! You are kind, caring, humble, and wow - so much passion for others! You inspire me always, Brandi! #leadlap#realedu
A7: As they say: Do don't just talk and show. When you can show how it works and make others feel great about trying something new or different. You are being real. #LeadLAP
A6: I have found that in admitting that my first years as a teacher I made decisions I now disagree with pedagogically, teachers I serve let their guard down and don't feel judged. They are more willing to move forward, question the status quo. #LeadLAP
A6: I think the power of giving to others is huge! Give of your time, talents, trust, love, etc. The đ will be a much better place when we realize itâs not all about us & that weâre better together! #LeadLAP#REALefu
I think that is so important to remember, esp during times of crazy stress: "I believe everyone is doing the best they can." Sometimes we need to recognize when others are drowning - don't just offer a hand, jump in to bring them back to the surface! #leadlap#realedu
A7 Be real by sharing what makes you...YOU. What are you passionate about? I'm passionate about rabbits and diet Mt. Dew, but from that we might make a connection. Share your story and encourage others to do the same. #REALEdu#LeadLAP
A6: My whats: Equity, Access, & Advocacy. I work with great teachers who always are looking out for those who were historically underserved in our community. #LEADlap@REALedu
A2: I â¤ď¸ to start a new year by hosting âStaff Chatsâ. Staff sign up for a 20 min time slot (covered by a sub) & we sit & chat about whatever they want to talk about. I provide their fav beverage and I get to listen & learn about them! Itâs super powerful! #LeadLAP

A5: I'M IN THIS teacher gig w/you FOR THE LONG HAUL! I want my Ss, their fams, my school, to always know I am here & that does not go away when a school yr ends! I know this works when my former Ss come back to say hi, ask for help,& ask to help me if they can! #leadlap#Realedu
A6: Providing ALL Ss with the opportunity and skills to be successful in their life is what drives me in my work. Also, although they may add a layer of complexity, demographics DO NOT and SHOULD NOT determine oneâs destiny. #allmeansall#averageisover#LeadLAP
Thank you so much to this amazing #LeadLAP crew for talking #REALedu with us this morning. Thank you Tara for sharing your REALness and for hosting today!
A6 I believe everyone CAN do whatever they want, that they have gifts and wisdom to share and I want to provide the space and push them to practice the skills they'll need to do THAT, whatever that may be. I believe in people, from my 2 year old on up! #leadlap
A5 #Leadlap I hope that my enthusiasm shines as well as my passion for helping others. I am rewarded when I meet and help other educators in some way. I want my brand to shout âhave fun with me learning something new!â
A7: Embrace the REAL you and shine in all your brilliance. There's enough sunlight for us ALL to shine brightly! Check on your pals, let them know you are there for them, let's get through this together! #realedu#leadlap
A7: I think that answer lies in being real yourself. Teachers and kids can spot someone that doesnât truly âwalk the talkâ a mile away. When people know you truly care about them all the resp falls into place. #leadlap
A7: I want to encourage others to tell their stories! Share your highs & lows! Let others know about your journey! We can all learn from each other! By being REAL, true relationships can form & you might be just what someone else needs at that moment! #LeadLAP#REALedu
A7: I have realized the power of storytelling. As I tell stories of struggles I have faced in personal and professional life, I have found that this inspires others to also be real. In this way, we are better able to support each other. #LeadLAP
A7: I can encourage those around me to be real by celebrating who THEY are as individuals- their professional passions, their likes, their ideas, etc! We've gotta celebrate each other more. There's so much passion in our schools! #LEADlap#REALedu
A6: I encourage professional growth and do what I can to support it. I encourage them to share out the great things that are being done via Twitter and submitting conference proposals. I am constantly trying to keep the spark alive in my team. #LeadLAP#REALedu
A2: Joining late from Springfield, MO. I try to survey my summer school staff about what they are reading and favorite summer activities. Helps me to know goals and outside stress relievers. #LeadLAP
