Teachable moment- snow in Oct not normal for PA. Went outside w/black paper and magnifying glasses. Fabulous instant science lesson.

I used to hate day's off. tried to get kids "back on track from before we left". Now I love them for the unexpected value they bring

When I was in high school a hot air balloon accidentally landed around 10 AM. Our Ts wisely let us out and the pilot answered Qs!

Q3: many Ss r afraid of Tstorms-we researched and Ss made models of a tstorm from - faced their fears/learned from fears
Game Shows are great for math. How else do you use them for other subjects?
A3: thunder and lightening during a fire drill, evacuate to shelter, K-5 building........talking about procedures
A4: I use , as a metaphor for group work - if they group votes you out.(w/ proof).. you've got to do on own.
