Next Wednesday, @MrTomsWorld will be here with his amazing gadget creations including Micro Simon, Mega:Bit and a VIC20 controlled tank! Come along to try them out - and ask him any questions! https://t.co/Zw9Cx5xtgv

Hi, Dan from the North East, summer highlights were escaping a lousy school, getting time to explore some more fun school activities, and spending time with my own kids! #caschat

Evening, hope everyone is well, it doesn’t feel like we’ve had a whole summer since the last #caschat does it? Highlight and proud Mom moment was my eldest getting his gcse results :)
I'm starting this year with:
Y7 Algorithms with Flowol, Y8/9 Python (chatbots etc). I always talk about robotics and AI, show videos and have a big debate about the future of computing. And I juggle and do a Rubik's cube.
#caschat
A1: I like to start with coding, make links to maths and try to instill the idea that problem solving and collaboration are going to be key to our lessons. Also is a chance to show children free software they can use for homeworks and code club! #caschat
Hi, Alan here, CAS Master Teacher at @WHGSComputing#caschat
I read 3 fiction and 2 non-fiction books over the summer. That's my idea of a summer break!
A1 Online Safety, future tech (setting the foundations for why CS is important) and a bit of a free coding challenge to see how much they’ve forgotten #CASCHAT
A1 started with binary data representation for year 10 -converting a string of 0 and 1s tho a picture of a space invader. Most year groups start with some programming though. #caschat
A1 Checking whether holiday improvements have been successful (aka not broken anything) #caschat - summer highlight was introducing and leaving 2 microbits and a Pi for relations (10, 12, 15 and 45) in Canada
A2. #caschat Excited to try things again that were new last year. Using design process with programing. Want to try microbit and scratch integration out with a class.

A2 - We've been using the diagnostic questions - Quantum computing baselines with year 7 and 9(GCSE) Really pleased with how they are going, Also doing more physical computing #caschat
A2: I went to an interactive AR/VR art exhibit at the weekend using Blippit (?) so my current new obsession is to create an art exhibit linking kids art, poetry and coding, linked to WWI centenary - I should stress I have no idea how to achieve this! #caschat

A2 getting on with developing the EYFS Computing curriculum. I will buy a code-a-pillar and get down on the floor with the littlies this year if it’s the last thing I do! #CASCHAT

Really? Excellent thanks! I want to bring the kids artwork to life! I also bought a @MergeVR cube over the summer which I want to use to bring some of my science lessons! #caschat

I've saved that one, I find they tend to have done eSafety a lot in Y6, so I keep it for February (around #saferinternetday) and start with Flowol (algorithms) I think it's more exciting and a taste of what CS is all about. #caschat

A2 And I've bought @Baggiepr 's new Crumble book so I can extend the work we did with our engineering project last term! So many exciting things to look forward to this year! @STEM_UH@CAS_east@cas_london_crc#caschat

A3 Returning classes - programming challenges.
New GCSE, A-Level groups expectations for the year, computational thinking challenges - short snappy things #caschat
My Reception class are just starting their journey, so no need to 're-engage'! But with our KS2 I just start talking about @CodeClub and they are raring to go @StNicholas120#caschat
A3) Upper KS2 dive in with some physical computing (microbit is great) Year 3/4 trying Scratch for the first time is really visual. Looking forward to Scratch 3! #CASCHAT
A3 I get all animated about robotics and machine learning, hopefully it's infectious. I use @edmodo and let them discuss robots on there, and let them play with #chatbots like the now-famous @MitsukuChatbot#caschat

A3: I place some of my computing goodies around the room without comment, and then wait and see who spots it and asks questions! I find they want to find out what everything does, so try to give some free exploration time in the first few days #caschat

My robotics club turned up after school tonight - even though we haven't started yet, The older ones were planning how to choose the #FLL team from STEM club which starts next week #caschat

A4: For a few years, I have tended to overlook iPads in favour of computers/Pi's. I tried to learn more about iPad apps and uses over the summer as my new class have 1:1 tablets which I want them to use regularly #caschat
Our 9's get given a pioneer to research as their first task (normally whilst getting all the google classroom, diagnostic questions and @replit accounts sorted out) #caschat
A4) Had a dabble with web coding (HTML / CSS) last year children loved it would like to see how it can be applied - got to be part of a balance with all types of computing though. #caschat
A4 Going to a 3 year GCSE gives more time for feedback and longer to work on programming concepts to really embed them in. Also need a more structured approach to assessment as I am training 2 x teachfirst trainees #mustBeMad#caschat
We have some EV3 which we use for the First Lego League - For RobocupJunior we use a mix of Lego and Arduino buying in individual sensors (My finance office love my orders) #caschat

A5 if you get confused or lost within a program, concept or idea, just be honest. Tell them you will look into this and return to them. Make sure you do return mind. #caschat
Here is the robot that came second in the world at the International Robocup Competition Superteams challenge 2018 (joined with Hungary) when we represented the UK in Canada. #highlight2018#caschat

A5 You don't have to know everything before you start a lesson... Don't be afraid to make mistakes - we can all learn from one another! See yourself as a facilitator sometimes...#caschat
A5 In terms of primary school, write your own SOW. Improves subject knowledge, keeps you focussed on learning objective. And get lots of help from #cas#caschat
A5 #caschat Don't panic. Lots of unplugged activities, the links to maths etc will be more apparent. Build confidence and resilience in your ss. Use @csunplugged and @BarefootComp Dont worry to much about kit. You can deliver effectively without buying in software and gimmicks
.#caschat A5 Take things slowly, test things out before hand and don't be afraid to try new things out. Find a good SoW which gives a backbone to build from.
A5: Try new things, learn with the children! There will always be a question you can't answer, or a computer which does something it shouldn't. Teach the children to learn by problem solving and being resilient! #caschat
A5 if you’re in Primary - don’t worry, you’re already teaching a lot of CS already. Grab a mug of tea and some biscuits and spend a couple of hours learning Scratch #CASCHAT

A5 - use the resources @CompAtSch , take part in #Caschat and don't be afraid to ask for help. Things will sometimes go wrong - its how we deal with them that matters. Attend your local hub meetings (especially if they are held in your school) @GrahamMorphy@adjon5

A5. I guess my question is where's the best place to buy chocolate and are there any other must-have comfort foods when developing lesson plans? #caschat
Immensely proud - It was a fantastic experience for the boys to go out to Canada. Finals this year are in Australia - we'd best start fundraising now in case they win nationals again #caschat
NEW challenge! Each week we will finish with a question from Project Quantum >> https://t.co/lRurp5CLkf
Here's this week's question - note: only three students in seven get this right...
#caschat
Don't be afraid to ask parents and the wider school community either. Some of us are more than happy to help out, especially at primary level where teachers have very little time to train on things like Computing.
