#TOSAChat is a chat on Twitter every Monday night at 8pm PST for TOSAs (teachers on special assignment), including all edtech and instructional coaches.
Welcome to #TOSAchat! Kelly from Tahoe. Ed Tech & Curriculum Coordinator. My fave coffee is blond roast with heavy cream and a splash of sugar free salted caramel syrup.
Hello #TOSACHAT I am Josh from Salinas, Dir. of @alisal_edtech. And I can't drink coffee for a while, but I do kins of mis my Breve Lattes. So creamy and delicious.
Hi! My name’s Ashlen and I have am a grad student about to begin student teacher and eager to learn about tech in the classroom. Favorites coffe drink is a Cold Brew w/ a shot of caramel 😋☕️ #tosachat
Hi friends! Amanda, Digital Innovation TOSA in Campbell. My preference is just a plain black coffee... maybe a regular latte when I’m feeling fancy #TOSAChat
I worked up to a 7 second pour from those sugar jars. Normal amounts of sugar tasted bad. Decided to just have it taste bad and drink it black. #tosachat
A1: My faves are usually interactive where I learn something and get to play/talk about it. I like having the how conversations w/ the group as a participant & leader. #TOSAchat
A1: I always love participating in PD that involves hands-on learning on STEAM, NGSS, & inquiry-based learning. @trev_mackenzie I love leading ones that involve the same. #tosachat
A1: well being a vendor we’ll pretty participate whenever a district will have us (or pay - but then we refer them to our PD partners: @friEdTechnology@blancaedu ) #TOSAchat
A1 I like face to face training with lots of audience participation. I'm all about modeling what needs to be going on in classrooms! #TOSAchat create > consume
I’m at Converse College in South Carolina, earning a MAT degree in Early Childhood. Our professor @JuliePJones encouraged us to join in some twitter chats to learn and I came across yours. Thanks for the warm welcome! #tosachat
A1 My fave PD is that which I can use immediately and balances theory w/ application. The worst thing I can do is waste a teacher's time, so I aim to create PD that is fun, useful, and gives participants multiple entry points. #tosachat
A:1 I like to lead and participate in PD that works on participants creating g something useful to their classrooms. I love the CUE Rockstar Model. #tosachat
A1: My favorite PD has become any conversation with district leaders from everywhere. I get the most insight from sharing ideas. I love leading hands-on sessions, where Ts get to implement something learned right away. #TOSAchat

of course! So good to see a prof encouraging Twitter chats! I finished my masters last year and lead a chat for the cohort. Such a great learning tool! #TOSAchat
A1: I like participating in a variety of types of PD. Often I like to have some kind of making, doing, exploring time, but sometimes I just want to sit back and listen to a good presenter or storyteller #TOSAChat

A1: I have hard time with a lot of PD...share your resources...digitally...and stop talking every once in awhile so I can do/make/discuss something.
as for leading...I try to practice what I preach, and I like to lead intermediate to advance #gsuiteedu stuff. #TOSAchat
A1: I was going to say Tech PD but I remembered listening to a district cognitive science guy speak on brain theory. I chewed on that one talk for a few decades. #tosachat
Well, we’re definitely glad you’re here. #tosachat is a fantastic community of coaches&TOSAs and all educators. Check out the resources on our website too. https://t.co/UY6oYgsQ1c

A2: Everyone is at a different place just like everyone likes their coffee a little different. We need to keep that in mind when we're working with Ts. #TOSAchat
A1: I love getting teaching wisdom from experienced and adventurous educators who teach outside the box, as well as collaborating with others. You can learn so much from others to help your self develop more. Especially as a new teacher #tosachat
Just dropped by. Are having decaf coffee right now? BTW, I’m with Jody. The best PD I enjoy is hands-on “hands down.” Tee hee... Seriously, “hands-on!” #tosachat
A2: Like a coffee chat: really important to listen to learners so you can support what they need. If learning needs not met, it's important to adjust to meet learners where they are #noegoallowed#TOSAChat
A2 Isn't it the same with PD as it was/is with our students? Relationships and trust are critically important. And then the inclusion of content that is meaningful and relevant. #tosachat
A2: realize that everyone is starting from a different place and that your deep love of the topic doesn't mean that everyone in the room shares that love #tosachat
A1: hi! #tosachat... I appreciate #PD with some work or think time built in - sometimes need to force the time to plan or ponder, even if just to get the next steps started. Also, just black coffee - it's the simple things :)
A1: I like hands on PD where we the audience can do something besides sit there. PD needs to be centric to the needs of audience/teaching staff. #tosachat

A2: I think everyone has their own teaching preferences like coffee, but most have a common goal to educate their students in such a way that makes them enjoy learning, grow as individuals, and become life long learners. More minds collaborating can reach more Ss #tosachat
A:2 When leading PD and in individual coaching sessions I try to first and foremost, focus on respecting the individual tech comfort levels of my audience. #tosachat

A1: Give me choices so I can choose what fits my need and speed! A presenter’s dream is a curious audience who is there because they WANT to be there! #tosachat
A2: One commonality is that we are all here for the betterment of the students. We all teach because we care about our kiddos. Ts can rest easy when they know I am a teacher too. #TOSAchat

A1: I like my PD hot and energetic, but also smooth and zen-intiating; basically I like it tailored to the needs of the time and level of the day #tosachat

A2: Building on A1...Different brews for situations. Sometimes a relaxing mint tea and others times an Americano is needed. Try to think about the audience, purposing, etc, and brew the right cup #tosachat

A3: Trying to get people doing, creating, talking sharing... basically anything that is going to get them producing and implementing learning asap #tosachat
A3: The common feedback I’ve gotten from PD include the need for hands-on learning & time to process. Including these will always help your PD become winners. #tosachat
A3 Elevate "student" voice. I talk less than I ever have. Digitizing content and creating a fun, safe environment where small groups are the focus has made such a difference! It's not my PD; it's OUR PD. #tosachat
A3: is chocolate and coffee really all it takes? Love to see the mixture of candy and great ideas in one chat (well candy is a great idea I guess?... #TOSAchat
A3: The coach that I admire Don Davis (AVID Guru) uses Disney characters as Tinkerbell, The Lion King to illustrate key points to inspire thought. #TOSAchat

A2: I think every educator (yes, this includes admin) should have a PD-IEP. The goals must be measurable & attainable. Ts meet w/a TOSA over the summer, identify personal goals, then district provides avenues to meet the goals of every person. #TOSAchat#caedchat#edtech.
A2: It’s all about the students and the teachers. We should continually ask ourselves if what we are doing is good for our students and teachers. #tosachat
Gosh, love how this is making my brain hurt thinking about response.. And that’s actually my answer. I would tell my ST that it should make your brain hurt. Means it’s working that muscle! Why not have some engagaing challenges for audience & not just sponge presenting? #TOSAchat
So much wisdom in this young one. Shake It Off is my go-to, "i'm having a bad day and everything is bad" song. It just puts things in perspective. #TOSAChat

A3: Seeing qualities that I really admire in Ts fires me up for evolving my PD. When you’re around someone who’s passionate about what they do it’s impossible not to be positively effect. Energy, passion, creativity, collaboration and FUN is always great. #tosachat
A3 #tosachat smiles are contagious! Let Ts get up, move around...and DO SOMETHING! Sit and get is not what I want... I'd rather up the energy than hear crickets...
Oh my goodness #tosachat! I'm so sorry I'm late🕖!!! Totally lost track of time trying to put my little night owl 🦉Karly, Tech TOSA and comp sci teacher from SF Bay Area.
Agree 100%. Tried doing this with two of my schools last year. It didn't work very well, but that just means we'll have to try again. Didn't abandon the idea-- it's just tabled for a bit. #TOSAChat

A4: What we try to build into our gamified PD with @AlludoPlay is to have Ts share out what they are learning. Twitter is ideal but we have found that our Ts like posting articles to our G+ community. #TOSAchat

A4: group activities. Our new guy @nalang1 has loads of great ones he was telling me about today. Hay Nathan? Also (of course) collaborative movie making #TOSAChat
A4: Turn and talk, protocols we would have in our classroom (eg Notice and Wonder)...let them connect with each other...build a bond...follow up with the group #tosachat

A4: I would say turn at least one PD into an EdCamp style. It would be nice as a teacher to have a say in what we are learning. For example, I would like to learn how to make instructional GIFs without paying an arm and leg. #TOSAchat

A5 Million Dollar question...don't try to defend. Model, model, model....don't force it. Nudge them along. Luckily, no once can read the thought bubble above your head! #tosachat
A5: It’s really about time - more specifically their time. Be there to share the positivity in the new choices, benefits, & more but remember to ppl will choose on their own time. #tosachat

A4 #TOSAchat I love how @weskriesel facilitates PD discussions in #fsdlearns... the strategies he uses to get folks to connect and talk are awesome. Conversations are key and critical to building relationships, building community and fostering professional growth.
A5: Can I #KeepItReal for a moment? I've been doing #edtech PD for 4+ years now...I am getting less & less interested in motivating ppl who lack the initiative to grow in their profession, or to put students needs ahead of their desires. #ImproveOrDie#TOSAchat
this is a very tough and real space to be in. I think if we're being honest, we all have teachers like this and I'm not sure what the solution is. Thanks for your honestly. #TOSAchat

A5: What I have seen one coach do is sit down with the particular reluctant teacher and just talk. Not confrontational but more of a coversation to see if he/she has a better way to get a similar result. The personal touch can sometimes move mountains. #TOSAchat

A5: I've been discussing doing a Pub PD with our union so we can co-host. I'm thinking it may get some peeps who don't normally attend to show up and participate. #TOSAchat
A5 #tosachat bite size, taste test, "try it ---you'll like it" opportunities. #PlayPD, hands on time to try new things... folks don't know what they don't know and if we don't provide the chance to even try, then a whole world of possibility could slip by...

A6: This really speaks to the importance of having a clear objective with the PD so that the closure goes back to summarizing the learning of the objective. #tosachat
A6: I try to close with the question-what did you take away from this session? get people reflecting on the time you spent together. And how are you going to implement what you learned. #TOSAchat

A6cont: The closure of PD doesn't actually have to happen at the end of the PD session. Don’t forget the follow up. @nzefeldt & I are firm believers of post-PD follow ups. #tosachat
A6: I just learned from @TechCoachSusan the idea of a not just a reflection, but like a guided agenda-walk. "Hey, look at all the stuff we learned/did./made/discussed" I think it really helps them realized how much they learned, and to focus their reflection & planning. #TOSAchat
A6: I have seen PD's closed with something to remember, final thought, musical exit, Disney Trivia Contest, jumping rope, and my favorite using Tinkerbell Dust to give us the magic to go forward and try new things. #TOSAchat

A6: Rewarding their time and effort as well as offering next time practical advice. How to take what you’ve learned and practically apply. As well as keeping in contact and checking in with the process and progress and maintaining the community of Ts #tosachat
