Karly, TOSA from SF Bay Area, CA. So pumped to see moderating #
-
. moderates on . Who's w/ me?
-
Share one goal you have this summer for your own PD before we turn it over to
-
Personally, I really want to focus on blogging not only to share info, but to reach a larger audience. https://t.co/aRdaerT08S
-
-
One goal I have in my own pd is to learn how to narrow my focus in order to support my Ts w/ what they really need.
-
I've always wanted to do that as well!
-
AWESOME! Can't wait to read your blog!
-
Make sure to follow as she moderates tonight on
-
YES! I was nervous too. Just do it! It will be great. =)

-
A1-It's a place where anyone can "tinker", "create", or "make" something or try something. Creativity & hands on learning isfocus
-
A1.a A makerspace is a place where you can use your imagination to tinker, design & create.
-
-
A1.b It fits wherever you can find time! Have students design and create prototypes to help solve probs for characters in books!
-
How about letting Ss have the option for a project to complete any assignment.
-
A2-Used so students could think of ideas. Only 1 of 6 groups were successful, but that's the whole point right?
-
Ohhhh yes! That would be VERY cool. Another option to show what you know!
-
A2-Used Dash & Dot for Ss to create activities using legos & other supplies. Totally fun.
-
Huge outcome of is "failure" - it'll lead to success. Love it!
-
A1: a maker space is where materials are spread out and people can just build. Kids can build different projects in class.
-
-
A2 We had a cardboard challenge & it was AWESOME! Also had a Maker Faire instead of a Science Fair . VERY successful!
-
This is required reading for Admins in Dublin Unified who want to begin
-
A2: Catapults because they are the most simple and most common maker space project
-
-
Yes! This is a great low tech cheap project!
-
A3-All of the above. It's really a space for you to try...so sometimes you need low tech & other times high tech + no tech
-
Share an example of no tech please-
-
A3 Ahhhh this is hard to choose! For maker projects low tech. For STEM Lab challenges I like high tech. But I like low tech too..
-
I'd have to say where you are building tech or just using raw materials to create something. Taking an idea to a visual?
-
A3: High tech-because they're more challenging for me.
-
I am often concerned high tech means high $$$ too. Want all to benefit at every school.
-
Yup; I know you live for high tech
-
Q4: How can you create a with no budget?
-
Yes! It can but there are many high tech low cost options like & =)
-
True! we're getting some of both soon....
-
A4-Using the community, finding spare parts from others, but taking what is not being used in the school to start with...
-
Use items that you already have like rubber bands or paper-recycled materials are great too!
-
I love this idea. Reuse can be powerful in & families always have cardboard too.
-
A4 Ask for donations! Local hardware stores. Write grants. Cardboard is easy to get!
-
-
I heard Home Depot will partner and do projects in your schools--Winner winner....reach out to regional managers
-
Final Q: Q5:Can projects help you deliver instruction and if yes; how?
-
A5: It can be used as a hands on explanation
-
A5 Hands on exploration! Having Ss CREATE the bridge for the 3 billy goats to cross is a fabulous way to incorporate literacy!
-
A5-Yes! @ high school level I've seen it work as & Senior projects. Plus lots of K-12 applications to learning
-
-
Thank you for moderating tonight's on
-
-
Continue the conversation by using the hashtag all week long!
-
-
sorry I missed but I would have been the same as currents Ss talking about how to beat Super Mario 3 with me talking
-
Hey HUGE thanks for Chat involvement tonight. You're a wealth of knowledge for Ts! is lucky to have you!
-
Aww thank you so much! I am still learning a TON from experts like you. Would not have missed w/ you as mod!
