    #sschat A1 We brought in Philo Barnhart, creator of Ariel from The Little Mermaid and his friend Charles Moisant. They shared their story of art and animation. He talked with our 1980s class about the reemergence of animated films. Great experience for our students.

    1- I’ve seen some world history Ts let SS spell their name in hieroglyphics or in Chinese letters or whatever unit they are on.I also like when teachers use modern songs that relate to history (Katie Perry’s “Dark Horse”, “High Hopes” references Manifest Destiny, etc) #sschat

    You are exactly right! Our National (and state level) fine arts standards place a great deal of emphasis on responding and connecting, not just creating/performing/producing, etc. #sschat

    A2 I don’t know that it reaches ALL learners, but there are definitely some kids who are drawn to art in a way that others are drawn to text or videos or storytelling. It’s part of a balanced diet of teaching! #sschat

    I've found that it gives students another avenue in which to express themselves. So far this year, I've seen incredible protest posters for the Progressive Era, postage stamps for WW2, and more. #sschat

    A2: By encompassing multicultural art all students to connect with the content. Without this connection students have difficulty wanting to learn because it is irrelevant to them. Further the art is a stimulus that allows different types of learners to understand the info #sschat

    A2: I think the arts provide a method for tchrs to reach ALL students. Everyone connects in some way to music, dance, theatre, and art. These are great ways to reach students of different development levels and provides a great springboard for differentiating instruction. #sschat

    I believe a lot of art gets left out of curriculum in general. It is important to change things up and try new things. Dancing, singing, and learning about different cultures can be very useful and important things for students to learn about and can incorporate art! #sschat
