#ECEchat
A1: Making time for read alouds & discussion, modeling, shared reading, flexible small group instruction, writing & reading interactive writing. Most of all, share the joy of reading! #ecechat
A1: When I read-aloud, I love engaging the early readers in repeating phrases, in making noises, in using different voices; really involving Ss and making stories come alive reel them in to reading, hook, line, and sinker! #ecechat

A1: Modeling having a authentic responses to texts (laughing, voicing concern for a character, even tearing up, if appropriate, expressing awe or wonder at a cool fact, etc.) #ecechat
A2: I love using stations that are engaging, aligned and rigorous. #QRcodes with audio are amazing for developing phonological awareness. #ECEchathttps://t.co/5k4EXxWutb
A2. By making all centers print rich: including vocabulary w/ pics, books & opportunities to write in all centers to support the theme & instructional purpose of the center #ECEchat
A1: Letting the students know what YOUR favorite books are! Showing them how excited you can be about a book and the adventures it takes you on. #ecechat

A2 library for Ss choice, QR code for stories to read to Ss, art to retell stories, story figures/puppets for retell or create new ending/new story #ecechat
A2: Each of our centers has its own word wall, set of books, writing utensils, paper, magazines and newspapers. Change them out every few weeks. #ECEchat
hi #ecechat. I'm Sara, a K teacher in Lake Tahoe, NV. A bit late ... I love to have lots of letter/sound practice, care & love of books, listening to reading thx to @operiumj, writing exploration centers this time of year, @Seesaw recording, @mrswillskinder games in centers!
A2: Rotations where they can have independent word work, reading to self, working with the teacher, working on writing, and listening to reading. #ecechat
A2 We are at the point in the year where there is quite a variety in the Must Do & May Do options. Ss usu start with an adult then migrate when they're done. They're happy and learning the whole time. hopefully! #ecechat
A3: During my early years of elementary, we'd have someone from the local library come and read to us and at the end of the workshop they'd have all kinds of books on the table and would let us choose one to keep and take home #ecechat
A3. Just had this conversation with several families tonight! Talk about the importance of reading to children and fostering their natural curiosity but refraining from applying pressure. #ecechat
A3: Demo read alouds & small group literacy activities at monthly parent mtgs. Parents rotate and complete the work just like students. Talk through examples to use at home #ECEchat
A3: Sharing online resources (Tumblebooks, Storyline Online, RAZKids, etc.) & sending books home to be read including books in home languages if other than English. #ecechat
A3. We share student's nature journals using seesaw, so we talked about how Ss can "read" to the parents what they wrote when reviewing the day & looking at the photo. #ecechat
#ECECHAT nothing like coming in at the last minute. Heidi Vazquez PK teacher. My son's teacher let him record a story retell we loved hearing him and then we talked about the story at home.
A3: We have a new program with character-themed read-alouds that we share monthly in each classroom; Ss can check them out of the library. The plan is to post follow up Qs on social media to engage families. #ecechat
A3: We send home one book every week. Families keep it for 7 days then get a new book. A girl came in so excited, reciting the book to me, "Ms. Samantha, I can read!" #ECEchat
A3b: I also have a list of our favorite character-themed books that parents can access complete with links to enrichment ideas. https://t.co/VSC95JsoJo#ecechat
Definitely! Many families talked about the differences they noticed between their child in #NaturePreK where curriculum is emergent & concepts integrated naturally vs older children that attended academic/traditional programs where it seems forced #ecechat
Our school did a reading thing where you did a cool reading activity and then "camp" all night inside the school. Basically a sleep over. Included all kinds of activities. I never went...but my classmates that did always shared how much they enjoyed it #ecechat
Families are really seeing the value of fostering Ss intrinsic desire to learn and natural curiosity - don't see battle or reluctance to do tasks that incorporate academic concepts like letters/numbers #ecechat
Q4. Keep tasks open-ended and focuses on the process over the product. Allows room for differentiation without it feeling like "one more step." #ECEChat
A2: Signs in the block area, grocery lists in the house area, clipboards around the room, the greatest books in library area. Letter games have been a favorite at the toy table recently. #ECEchat

oh! We keep track of the Books We've Read in the classroom to get ready for March Book Madness (ala @nkrayenvenger). I could take pics of our display every couple weeks and share through @seesaw. Thanks for the idea! #ecechat

I, as a kid, did not care really about reading until about third grade. I preferred to play outside than to stay inside and read a book. However, despite not wanting to read, I payed attention to the literacy activities in class. #ECEChat
#ECEchat A4 I think the obvious answer is small groups. To reach students where they are we need to know where they are. I love making my small groups fun where they feel successful.
A4: Flexible small groups for different purposes (heterogeneous & homogeneous), 1 on 1 conferences/support, differentiated center work. Always base T decisions on knowledge of Ss & what they need next to grow. #ecechat
A4: Use a range of instructional strategies to meet the needs of diverse learners, and of course make it fun! Provide many opportunities to see how students learn best. #ecechat
A.3 In our #PreK class we are doing Wacky Reading at home for our annual Celebration of Books. Parents send in pics of kids reading with a flashlight, in a bathtub (no water), to a pet, etc. HT #CCSDReads#ECEchat
Probably explains why I was placed into "speech therapy" thing. I didn't like having that and the speech teacher would always get mad when we didn't get it right and would rudely correct us. #ECEChat
I did a week of @mrsjumpsclass Camp Learns a Lot in June last year. No sleeping over for kindergarteners but tons of camping inspired reading fun! #ecechat
#ECEchat A5 I think drawing their favorite part and then writing about it or dictating to me what they want to say. Also a shared writing where we create a new ending to the story.
A5: I think young students benefit from having visual writing prompts. It helps them add detail, stay on topic and connects the fact that pictures tell stories. #ECEchathttps://t.co/Y9PS4ekoZa
A5 At 4 & 5 yrs kids are eager to communicate in writing - notes to parents, signs for dramatic play. We try to capitalize on their initiative. #ECEchat
A5: Finding ways to bring writing naturally into teaching. I love tying writing into read alouds. The reciprocity between reading and writing shows that the more students can write, the better readers they will become. #ecechat
A5: We focus on the fact that we are ALL writers, self confidence is key! We accept writing at all stages! Reading and writing go hand in hand! #ECEchat
A5. Nature Journaling - we start with simple prompts (ie acorn) and get more complex depending on their findings outside. Tchrs write down Ss ideas about the items. Ss start to write on their own as yr goes on #ecechat
Also great when it comes to talking about things -- maybe like a character punches the other character -- use it to talk about the reasons why what that character did was wrong. #ECEChat
A5. Shared writing experiences, creating class books, writing that spins off of familiar books, anything that enhances & solidifies the Reading & Writing connection. #ecechat
A5: Shared writing, writing in writers workshop, interactive writing, writing about reading, science journals, math journals open ended & self selected writing in centers... #ecechat
Write the Room is one of the most popular Must Do choices in my room! They also love to label a lot with seasonal/monthly cards from @recipe4teaching and @mrswillskinder#ecechat

Q5: Daily journals where students draw/write and adults transcribe their descriptions. Showing Ss their ideas are important and words have meaning. #ECEchat
If you want to incorporate technology - we went on an adventure and documented it with the iPad. We then used the pictures to help recall the story and recreate it in our nature journals #ECEChat
