The Breakfast Club – #BFC530 – is a 15 minute, 1 question Twitter chat every weekday. We chat in 4 timezones Mon-Fri – 5:30am Eastern, Central, Mountain, and Pacific Times. The mission of BFC is to empower participants to make a difference in education by engaging in consistent reflective practice in a supportive community that inspires and challenges one another.
Nantucket Golf Club Foundation 2018 Scholars named tonight are seniors Carter Snell and Deanna Weatherly standing with Executive Director Tom Bresette. Check https://t.co/NwaaqXKYUR later for more. @InkyM
I am a blended learning environment ... my kids can learn at home or in the classroom ... kids use tech to get content and to create learning artifacts ... and sometimes we go old school with the pen and paper. #bfc530
ESOL Services also holds a three day PD over a semester that gives school teams face to face work sessions mixed with online resources. We know leaving school for PD is difficult and want to make the best use of teachers' time. #bfc530
The media center is a blend of sorts. It has been more of a testing center this year. Hoping to reclaim it to better serve my babies next year! #bfc530
I have 4 classroom computers and the computer lab/iPad cart are hard to reserve for 4 periods, so not much blending learning with technology here. Should be 1-1 soon. Living in a rural area does not help with students having access to internet at home either. #bfc530
Right now, schedules just don’t allow our MTSS District Implementation Team to have face-to-face or even virtual meetings to learn and process content. Trying out a hyperdoc embedded with reflection, connection, and collaboration activities. #acsmtss#bfc530
As much as I can. Turning over much of the responsibility on the students. Watch videos, do research, do readings in class, then expand through discussion #bfc530
Blended learning looks different at each level, in each academic discipline.
I'm more interested if this integration is authentic and purposeful?
#bfc530
#bfc530 In our district we are using an LMS for content delivery in many classrooms. Some Ts are embracing the station rotation model. Of course F2F leads the way!
Good Morning #BFC530
Ok blended in my classes: I teach Personal Finance & have a @google site for the class and much of the content is on my site with articles and videos kids watch/read then have assignments: Blog posts, presentations etc.
Good luck with that ... from April thru May they should just rename th media center to testing center #bfc530 we have the same issue ... with the “dont touch the computers they’re for testing”
Blended learning makes things a little more personal for the students. Students have more ownership and creativity over their own learning. It’s not just how we use the technology it’s the what and the why. This is one of our goals. #BFC530
Every day I see variations of blended learning, rotation centers with various tech options, T centers for conferencing, kids using multiple means to produce thier authentic learning! #bfc530#lcps18
#BFC530 For blended learning aim for an appropriate mix of chunked, traditional text-based content with accessible multi-media supplements that allows for Ss' interactive responses..
LOL I looked it up before I answered. Here is what I found: Blended courses (also known as hybrid or mixed-mode courses) are classes where a portion of the traditional face-to-face instruction is replaced by web-based online learning.
#bfc530
I’ve used blended learning extensively with Gr12 final year High School Ss. My results were always well above state average. Ask the Ss what they want! I built a class website, to discover all they wanted was a shared Google Drive where everyone could add resources

I provide lots of alternative learning experiences but I don’t consider it blended yet. I think it will have to have a more flexible timeline to be truly blended #bfc530
Part of the problem with education is that everyone in education has a different definition for different practices. Okay, I just confused myself with this thought. #bfc530
I always struggled with that when I was supporting tech in a middle school. I spent three quarters of the year encouraging teachers to integrate tech into their classrooms, and then had to take it away from them to setup for testing. #bfc530
I always construct my site mindful of Blooms Digital Taxonomy. Worst mistake Ts make is to put a digital text book onto a computer or in a shared drive & call it blended learning or ELearning. Use properly, it can yield results #bfc530
I use technology daily with Ss for learning, practicing, and applying. However, I wouldn't call it blended because they only do review (little homework) outside the classroom. #bfc530

My ELs require a good amount of time to complete assignments. I usually have the reading, viewing of materials at home and the completion in class. Having the materials in OneNote, using Flipgrid, and Newsela makes this much easier. #bfc530
I agree. We are 1:1 Chromebooks, but I don't use them everyday. Some Ts do, I guess. I see Ss needing, and asking for, breaks from screen & tech. #bfc530
Oh..so that is completely different. So it then it my expectation that students use technology at home?? If so,I can’t do that..many don’t have access. #bfc530
Without all students having equal home access to devices and internet it’s not feasible to truly blend but I have a bunch of kids who use our online platforms and resources outside school to continue/deepen learning. #bfc530
Yes!! I cannot tell you how often I walk into Ts rooms who are so proud of their "digital classroom" and all it contains is a copy of their syllabus and a PDF of the textbook. Technology should enhance learning, not just save trees. #bfc530
It can be! This is a critical Q. Is it authentic in purpose, in design and in achievable outcomes? Does it enhance Ss learning? If no, it probably is a computer being used in a classroom. #bfc530
So, as @gcouros says, you are innovating within the box. I love what I have seen of your class, Kathy. If I were in 3rd grade, I would want to be there! #bfc530
We are 1to1 so students have easy access to tech. We use it for research, creating videos, fluency and creating artifacts of learning..we also practice skills with a pencil/book in hand. BL experiences make students ready to tackle problems in a variety of ways! #BFC530
@TCMSPrincipal@DennisDill
Blended leaning's definition is not necessarily shared. Means many different things to different stakeholders.
It's more of an umbrella heading from the current "word wall."
#bfc530
Looks different everyday 😊tools like chromebooks, print resources, interactive board, big books, paper books, digital resources, muti age peer groupings -
Have a fantastic Friday friends! If you are being run out of town, get in front of the crowd and make it look like a parade 😉 enjoy the weekend! #bfc530
Technology is in a perpetual state of evolution ... paper revolutionized education ... one could argue, without paper there would be no concept of homework ... except the “go home and think about what we did today” which is maybe what we should go back to #BFC530
Spot on! Whilst head of Curriculum in gr7-12 HS of 1200 Ss & I had to introduce 1:1 Learning across the whole school-enrolled into a post Graduate Certificate of Education (ICT & Online Learning & Teaching). Authentic eLearning Pedagogies was a mandatory subject. V.Useful #bfc530

I’ve been seeing new teachers talk (yell) over students—that sabotages their management. Wait for silence, then speak! It works with adults too. Saves time. #bfc530
I'd like to be more impactful in my one-to-one conversations with students when I address an issue after class. I sometimes find it challenging to come up with the just-right words on the spot. Or better yet, the just-right questions to be asking to make them think #bfc530
Good morning my wonderful #bfc530 folks! Happy Friday to you! My class is a blended environment because it combines teacher-directed learning as well online learning. Source: https://t.co/Y316jQIImO
I define technology as anything using a computer or tablet in an innovative way. However, you could probably include engineering type activities. #bfc530

"Dear Students,
There are no rulers or scales or numbers or tests that can calculate YOU."
For all the educators, parents, & kiddos enduring testing now...remember, the most important human qualities are often immeasurable. My post on @ClassroomUnity.

Blended learning: Having some of our learning & collaboration take place in digital spaces.
Some tools:
🍐 @PearDeck for student engagement
🍃 @khanacademy for differentiated Math practice
💻 #GSuiteEdu tools for creating in slides, docs, drawings, sites...
#bfc530
It is also what we do with those tools ... are we really blending ... new ingredients or just pulling out expired ingredients from the dusty cabinet? #bfc530

Treat myself every Friday to diner run after morning workout & participation in #bfc530 eduTwitter chat. Re-reading Split Season about 1981 baseball strike. Remimds me of summer that only baseball were the games I played. Great book @SplitSeason1981
Hard to answer bc I struggle using technology as an enhancement tool. I’m currently enrolled @SIUE in the Teaching with Technology courses. I’m hoping to understand blended learning better for next year. #BFC530
When I think blended learning, I think about giving Ss access & opportunity to practice the 4Cs (creativity, communication, collaboration, critical thinking) & going deep into SAMR (Substitution, Augmentation, Modification, Redefinition). #BFC530
Morning, #bfc530. It aspires to be, purposefully integrating technology as part of fostering engagement, along w/multiple means of representation & expression. Yesterday, not so much, when construction crew accidentally cut cable connecting our school to Internet. 😳
Research on sleep, cognitive load and PBL makes me think that no high school should start before 8:30 nor have more than 4 classes each day. Any good models out there as @saes launches such a daily schedule next year.
