This past week we were lucky to have meet with our Ss Ambassadors.
I sent my book to publisher last week!
Excited.
A2: I allow them to exercise it. Give them responsibilities. Conference with them, encourage and support them.
A2 I'm trying hard to give my students CHOICE- where, how, what they learn and to share it with the world Not perfect but trying
always great to see you Angela
A2: Well, we told them they mattered and that they had a responsibility to lead. Now they are and I can barely keep up. :)
Here is Q2 --->>> https://t.co/fyVNCsywIl
Q2: In what ways do you support & empower Ss to develop their leadership?
A2. In our school district, we have a STUDENT TRUSTEE & district student leadership team. Also have Ss forums to gather Ss voice.

A2: We recently allowed Ss to submit writing for a blog about our MS, so they can tell their story, had some Ss run our PBIS Store
A2: Giving Ss a voice in the classroom and in the school. Provide opportunities for them to take the reigns.
Hal! That's awesome! I'll have to DM you :)
A2: Empower Ss through school based committees that make meaningful decisions within the school
Leadership is extremely important in today's society. We need more leaders in all fields our Ss will pursue
A2: Provide them with leadership opportunities. The Leader in Me was an inspiring read to do more in this area for students.
A2 Open ended discussions, projects, problems that require Ss to make decisions, evaluate progress, decide if they can move fwd.
A2) We do have students in groups. Need to have more opportunities for leadership.
A1: Ss need to learn how to act/behave in many diff environments. Listening, consensus building, leading, settling are all vital.

A1 Situational leadership taught to students in K-12 enables collaboration. Ss' strengths & interests motivate them to step up.
Good for you! Choice empowers students....and adults

https://t.co/6aEsDjmbf0
A2. In our school district, we have a STUDENT TRUSTEE & district student leadership team. Also have Ss forums to gather Ss voice.
A2 it's all about giving them voice & choice..if we just tell, they will never grow or lead.
Great to see you in the stream tonight!
Love that Sandy, we need to always strive, learning is ALWAYS messy!
A2 Give them choices for showing what they know/can do, ask input, show I value their thoughts/perspectives,
So great to have a student trustee at the table. Makes our conversations more meaningful & purposeful. https://t.co/yBGrMTO6OF
Love the authentic opportunities for students to lead!
A2 allowing Ss to voice their opinions in school change, class instruction, learning experiences is a 1st step. Can be done in K.
A2: I split them into educational games and rotate team captains. It forces them to develop plans&teach how to inspire followers.
Great way to put it, we can lead best by providing Ss opportunity/ability to lead us!
A2 allowing stud eye to fail and helping them develop grit. Ask emPower questions not just give them answer
Promoting risk taking is key! https://t.co/m5SlrVs7tV
A2: assign collaborative group work w/ checklist and rubric. All Qs answered by group, encourage risk taking and problem solving!
So true!! And a great reminder to take a look around! https://t.co/cym3CNezfc
A2: The role of any leader; but especially an education leader is to develop the people around them.
A2: Do we ask our students to lead often enough? Students need an invitation, a chance and opportunity to do the work.
That is awesome. Then are they able to take action and change the world?
Ss and adults are more motivated to learn when it's on their terms-
Sometimes too many chiefs and not enough Indians is a bigger problem then too man followers! https://t.co/frUbT03BNe

Yes sometimes the key is the invitation. Critical first step.
A2) I ask the Ss what they think is important to tell their parents at conferences and they design the presentation
A2 have u tried not naming a group leader and see how the dynamic works out? It provides multiple opportunities for diff leaders.
Following my friend's lead to provide more ops- it's a win-win https://t.co/Zl5KCounXC
A2: Do we ask our students to lead often enough? Students need an invitation, a chance and opportunity to do the work.
it's not about who follows us, but who we create as leaders
A2: I did Ss led conferences for the first time. Greatest decision.
So MANY tasks in schools could be lead by Ss. Why don't we think of this 1st before asking a staff member?
Q3:What roles student leaders have in your classroom, school, district?
A2: Ss need to know that failing is necessary part of learning! Failure leads to growth and new ideas!
A2: Give them choice & allow them to think on their own. Don't spoon feed. Group projects. Also, encourage Ss to join clubs.
A2: It's giving them leadership opportunities & highlight leadership qualities in what Ss already do
I'm learning to innovate within the box as would say- some roadblocks but won't stop me
Watched kindergarteners lead conferences w/ their families - AMAZING!
A2 YES! Empowering Ss is all about Ts stepping out of the way to let Ss lead. & others
Meet with my student government team bi-monthly and this year videos for our Facebook page

I trust you.
I am proud of you.
I was wrong, I am sorry.
Love that way of putting it! I look at it as if we should teach ourselves out of a job & empower learners
A3) We do have a student council at our school. IN the district, student reps do address the board.
A2) Heard of classroom system where Ss earn more pnts for assisting/building others in group than just themselves. Builds leaders

So many great people on chat tonight it is very hard to keep up... https://t.co/V6r4WmGtDb
A2: Sts have to KNOW you believe they are capable. Just knowing that empowers them to move mountains. It is all in the mindset
Absolutely. Ss have a voice at the table where decisions are made. An opportunity to influence & lead. https://t.co/qagYefvzjf
That is awesome. Then are they able to take action and change the world?
We know that is moving fast, but don't worry. We archive the chat and post it on https://t.co/EWg05xhZdW each week.
: not enough! Starting small is ok! Tweeters, project leaders, conference leaders, genius hour...let them choose!
The next generation of leaders is already in r classrooms; are we asking them to live up to their potential?

Yes. The challenge is to create the right environment, stand back and watch great learning take place. TRUST them
That is right. We are preparing them for jobs that do not exist! Thats why we must let them venture out https://t.co/mjwqIpFpBH
we must remember we are preparing kids for jobs the don't exist now, we MUST teach them to lead, take risks!
A3: Students today want 2 act. They want 2 solve hard problems; 2 collaborate, create, and most of all change the world!
A3 My kids helped welcome littles at drop off zone. Later as color guard leads. Oldies kid daughter was class prez & prom planner
Yes, T presenter used Classcraft and it had setting where more pnts earned for helping others vs.self. Loved concept.
only cats must stay in the box!
Yes! Ss need more opportunities to have their voices heard in a "formal" way! https://t.co/NV7VS9RugA
A3: Sts don’t have enough roles. We need to listen and let them lead, but we need leaders willing to let them do so.
A3: Design lessons that allow for choice, rigor, & creativity. Not all leaders are vocal; celebrate all learners.
A3: We have a great Student Council in our K-6 school that has worked hard to build school spirit as well as being involved
A3. As mentioned, we have a student trustee & sec school reps. In some elem schools, we have Ss Councils. Ss are LEADERS.
A3: I have kids who have chosen to lead. They have said, "this matters to me." Then they have embraced the role. They ROCK!
A3: A student doesn't need a role or title to lead.
A3: We need to be careful not to confuse leaders with popularity contest winners. Big difference.
It always amazes me how much more motivated Ss become when they realize kids can make a DIFFERENCE! https://t.co/KgGIutOKiE
A3: Students today want 2 act. They want 2 solve hard problems; 2 collaborate, create, and most of all change the world!
Question 4 coming up in 2 min.
A3 I had a superintendent & principal student advisory group

Q4: Is empowerment of learners the same as helping them develop leadership? Why/why not?
Tonight's is moving fast but don't let that stop you from JUMPING in! We will archive it too and post on https://t.co/EWg05xhZdW
A2 one way was to have lead convocation this year! Her message spread like wild fire throughout
A2 Our Super has a student advisory committee which encourages
A3 I see loads of leadership in my classroom & school wide. Great Question. Where is the District demand for Ss voice?
A3: I give my student leaders as much autonomy as possible. If they want to take initiative, I will give them the responsibility
A3) our elementary Ss totally run the school store by themselves/my students also write real earthday letters to local leaders
Q3: Most student "leadership" roles come w/limitations. Students can lead on their own; by effecting or demanding change.
Colleges look 4 students who make a diff in their schools/ communities. Its imperative we give students chance 2B ready.
A3 MakerSpace provides multiple opportunities for leadership&decision making. I provide a small intro with goal & its up to them.
Q4 retweet --->> https://t.co/v5hrjoYGux
Q4: Is empowerment of learners the same as helping them develop leadership? Why/why not?
A3: Ss may need help to see what role they can play in facilitating change. And the confidence to know they can!
Yes, so true! I have always loved hearing the saying that leaders serve others and not the other way around.
A4: Once you empower learners you are on path to building the leardership skills in SS which will be reflected in their actions
A4. I want to believe so... but seen Ss leaders who may not feel "empowered" with their learning & vice versa. So, not the same.
A4: Empowerment allows Ss to see their own potential which = Leadership
A4) I thin that developing leadership involves coaching. I think that empowering them is the first step.
Here is Q4 --->>> https://t.co/RqSIC9PaAP
Q4: Is empowerment of learners the same as helping them develop leadership? Why/why not?
A3 Ss research and share with me. Many times their choice of subj is unfamiliar making it more of a challenge.
A3: Don't do for students what they can and must learn to do for themselves!!! (This is a BIG list!)
A3: Leadership roles can start at school, but must connect to the bigger picture and developing
A4: I think there needs to be both Allowing them the empowerment will help them to discover, but we need to develop those skills.
Hello my friend great to see you in the stream!
A4: some Ss just need empowerment to lead. Others need guidance & encouragement.
Agreed. But Ss could feel empowered about learning and not be leaders. Does one rely on the other? https://t.co/AYwhnlJ5u7
A4: Empowerment allows Ss to see their own potential which = Leadership
Empowerment is a chapter in my book!
