A1:
Augmented keeps a little of what's in front of you and enhances it.
Virtual transports you completely and immerses you via multiple senses to a new environment.
#MasteryChat
Hello! Vanessa Houston, TX, I teach 2nd grade and I cannot live without google docs, flipcharts, and Class Dojo. Not sure if Class Dojo counts. #MasteryChat
A1: AR/ VR to me is the opportunity to go beyond the four walls of the classroom and explore different aspects that you cannot receive in a textbook. #masterychat
A1 #masterychat The use of technology to enhance learning through virtual labs, #D travel and other visual representations that take you beyond the classroom.
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1 It is easier for me to describe EX for each to help define them.
Augmented reality? @PokemonGoApp- use your device to see Pokemon layered onto the real world!
Virtual reality? The book/movie @readyplayerone- Immersive experience in a completely artificial world!
#masterychat
#AR turns ordinary things into extraordinary things, look at Merge Cubes, by replacing digitally. #VR transports you to somewhere not possible like space or to the world of a cell. #ARVRinEdu#MasteryChat
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1 AR/VR brings the 2D to 3D. It provides a new dimension for student understanding and allows us to escape to new worlds that we could not visit otherwise. #masterychat#edtechchat
Just real quick. I speak for piano tuners everywhere. Please do not let kids abuse pianos in your schools. You may not know how long it takes to go through the (begging) process to get new ones. Thanks! #Masterychat#gtchat@antraasa (Yes, that is a Steinway)
A1: AR/VR is the PRESENT and FUTURE. It allows students to reach BEYOND the four walls of the classroom and experience an ENGAGEMENT piece of learning that may be different than they ever experienced! #MasteryChat#TeachBetter@jeffgargas
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1 - augmented reality is taking a real life thing and putting computer aspects into it like @PokemonGoApp. Virtual reality is taking the person totally into a virtual world like @google expeditions #MasteryChat
A1 VR give us as ts the ability to bring our ss any where in the world without leaving the classroom and allows us to provide experience that enhance our teaching and further ss understanding #MasteryChat
A1 AR is layered on real envt, can still see the space just with objects to interact with, VR you are immersed in environment, using headset, #masterychat
#MasteryChat Hello from Ottawa ON Canada. Previous home of @ErikKarlsson65 I teach youth who have to battle real hard to be ready to learn each day and ❤💖💕 my job
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
This is oddly tricky - I know what VR is, but I'm not sure how I would define it. I suppose it's an experience simulated in a virtual environment. #masterychat
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1 Augmented Reality superimposes or projects digital content in real places or live video. It tricks you into thinking it’s there. Virtual reality is a simulated space that you experience sensorium as if you are there. It tricks you into thinking you’re there. #MasteryChat
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1. AR is like an overlay of the digital world over the physical material world.
VR is exploration of the physical world via a digital platform. #masterychat
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1 It’s new to me and just now delving into it provides a visual representation and helps Ss test their knowledge in practice. Makes learning more engaging and fun. #masterychat
A1 - Augmented/Virtual reality to me is experiencing something in a controlled environment, it is taking a risk without the fear, it means experiencing driving without being in a car, skydiving without stepping off a plane, it has infinite possibilities #MasteryChat
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat
A1 To me, it's about being able to jump into the virtual world and in some cases experimenting with things or places you might not be able to otherwise. #masterychat
I've never used it, but I've seen / used it during art exhibitions to convey essentially a performance a la virtual experience. I play video games, so loads of horror games us VR to enhance the player experience. #masterychat
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
A2: I have absolutely no experience with either AR or VR! Once I've had the opportunity to learn about it and experience it, I'll be able to share more. Looking forward to reading other people's opinions though. #masterychat
Connect with the folks in this chat that have tried it Brian. Pick some brains. Search YouTube. Tons of awesome videos out there with cool things to try. #MasteryChat
A2 I've played a bit of Pokemon Go in the past & had a cool app once that let me point my phone at the night sky to see constellations mapped out.
It is a bit embarrassing that I have used almost no ar/vr in my classroom! (Have I really earned my Twitter handle?) #masterychat
A1 - augmented reality is taking a real life thing and putting computer aspects into it like @PokemonGoApp. Virtual reality is taking the person totally into a virtual world like @google expeditions #MasteryChat
A2 - I’ve worn VR platforms on numerous occasions. Never innthe field of education, but for exploration and some minor gaming. It’s going to change much of how we perceive what’s around us. #masterychat
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
Jump in head first! Go to your App Store or Google Play, do not pass go, download a few apps for both augmented and virtual realities. Get a headset (super cheap now) and play! #masterychat
I loved using #AR & #VR during our Family Road Trip Unit in Math Class! We explored 5 locations and compared our experiences to Maps! Then we Plotted our Locations #masterychat#TeachBetter#MakeItReal
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
A2: I mean Flight of the Navii is one of my favorite experiences with it! I've incorporated some of it in my class utilizing @nearpod and the Ss have really enjoyed it! Our school just got headsets, so now I've got even more toys to play with! #masterychat
A2: In my personal life I’ve watched some movies with AR/VR, but that’s about it! I’ve seen the white pods in our malls with the AR/VR sets... I’ve never taken the risk to try it out! Maybe... now I will! @jeffgargas let’s DO IT! 😂 #MasteryChat#TeachBetter
A2: Being a mom of a 10yr old I am trying to just be at least one step ahead of him in all things virtual. Personally I don't do well with it as I am prone to vertigo #MasteryChat
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
That sounds pretty good to me. VR is a whole new environment. Whereas AR is experienced in your current environment, with additions, changes, etc. #MasteryChat
A2. My kids and I love using LEGO AR Studio on iOS. It allows us to place different LEGO creations all around an area. I've also been using the new iOS "Measure" tool to measure misc items, level pictures, and align items in my house. #MasteryChat
A2: My daughters loved doing the scavenger hunts in the Christmas catalogs lately using augmented reality. I also played PokemonGo like crazy when it came out. #masterychat
A2 I have been teaching it for 2 years, presented at conferences and learn a ton from #arvrinedu and I spend a lot of time creating using diff apps and also use it in my Spanish classes and STEAM course #MasteryChat
A1: I define AR (Augmented Reality) or VR (Virtual Reality) as:
AR:
Amazing Real World Experiences
&
VR:
Very more exciting than pencil/paper activities Real World Experiences
#MasteryChat
A2: My Ss maximize the VR experience during our Travel #PBL ... we jet off to new and exciting places then take excursions to take our learning to deeper levels all while immersed into the culture of that very destination! #MasteryChat#Nan3EDU
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
A2: VR, i have experienced through the NY times App and once at a tech fair and tried it with Ss. My students who are in science research have studied AR as a way to treat phobias and to teach social skills to people on autism spectrum, so I learned that from my Ss. #masterychat
#masterychat I have used the gear for my iphone but we do not have any yet for our classrooms. Hoping we can get some with a grant- especially for virtual labs
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
A2 I’ve used VR with my class and my own children with google cardboard. I remember the buzz when we were studying France and they used the device and felt like they were standing on top of the Eiffel Tower. That was a moment none of them forgot. #MasteryChat
A2 - Personal would be gaming VR goggles, undergrad we took part in simulated classroom, Teach Live Lab, to learn how to use various classroom management skills, that was pretty cool! #MasteryChat
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
A2: Disney is my most recent experience! Brought a VR truck in for my students last year and toured the White House with Obama and my 4th grade Ss. #MasteryChat
A2: AR is used in other social media platforms- Snapchat, Instagram, and Facebook filters! If you’re in Philly, check out the VR at @TheFranklin about outer space! Super fun for all ages 🔭 #masterychat
A1: not really sure what the difference is. I know that it is a great tool to engage students with and I would love to try it in my classroom! #MasteryChat
A2. I was super excited for Pokemon Go when it came out! I still love it, but haven't played in over a year because life is too busy! lol. #masterychat
A2 AR puzzle boxes scavenger hunts and small stuff like That. We also have VR headsets for different explorations that Ts use but I’m not overly experienced. #masterychat
Q2. Augmented and Virtual Reality are becoming popular around the world in many industries. What is your experience with either AR or VR in your personal life? #MasteryChat
A2b: I guess my "research and development" aka playtime in the @htcvive I facilitate at school counts as personal time too, even though I really try to think of it as professional, lol! #masterychat
A2 - I’m sure everyone has done AR with Snapchat (dancing Bitmoji). That being said, I’ve done Google Expeditions at home with my oldest and my kids at school (VR). #masterychat
I got Google cardboard when it first came out. Was so excited! Then, almost immediately upgraded my phone, and the cardboard wouldn't work. That was the end of that:( #masterychat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
Ive framed our use within an Internship learning design. When our students learn within a themed internship, VR and AR find practical ways to appear in our learning! #masterychat
A3 - I think AV / AR could be a game changer for education. Depending on how far the pendulum swings VR could literally make geography a non-factor in quality of education. Every student could receive a digital experience from wherever they are in the world. #masterychat
#masterychat I think it has its benefits for sure- virtual labs and such. I like having cool gadgets but my heart is still very much with the digits over digital- hands-on makerspace STEM activities with some AR/VR thrown in for good measure.
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3: Everything is good in MODERATION. We must always have a BALANCE with everything we do in our classrooms and the world of education. #masterychat#TeachBetter@jeffgargas
A4: I feel like all things can be good and bad. I like that VR can take my students beyond the 4 walls of our classroom just like #mysteryskype. It can enhance my instruction and allow students to see things they have never seen before. My Ss are into technology. #masterychat
A3: I trust so much in the VR education angle that I made it one of my obs goals for this year. A lot of info from #ISTE18 this year too.
Already have taken Spanish classes to Spain virtually. Very cool for them to see what they study.
#masterychat
A inexpensive way to start is to explore the app store (if you have an iPhone. Merge Cube is also a very versatile, but cheap tool to start with as well. #MasteryChat
A3 Just like any #edtech, it's all about how you use it! If it used to create rich learning experiences- Yes, it's awesome!
Unfortunately, I have seen many ppl use it w/o purpose.
Ed tech must be used to improve learning, not just as a cool gadget. #masterychat
A3 Yes, when used with purpose, so focus on the WHY to use it, but benefits are enables Ss to interact with objects, immerse in an envt, explore places from wherever they are, using the tools, also builds #studentengagement#MasteryChat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3 I think the rise of ARVR is great for education. Many opportunities for experiences our S’s would never have. Virtual Field Trips, Walking Tours and learning about other cultures and lands #MasteryChat
A inexpensive way to start is to explore the app store (if you have an iPhone. Merge Cube is also a very versatile, but cheap tool to start with as well. #MasteryChat
A3 - Absolutely! How else can my kids visually see Gettysburg battlefield or others see the anatomy of the digestive tract? Ts still have to remember that providing the VR doesn’t replace teaching: it simply adds experience and promotes engagement. #masterychat
A3: I think it is safe to say that if it is coming now and in the future for our students, what better place for them to learn about it and how to use it than in education #MasteryChat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3: I wish I had more experience with AR or VR but from the other comments I read,it seems like this would be a good resource for students to have. Especially the students that have not had the opportunities to travel. #MasteryChat
A3 I think it's good. Anytime we're able to make the world a little smaller and reachable to students, that might not otherwise leave their block, can be a good thing. There's so much out there and sadly, I know adults that are afraid to leave their comfort zone. #MasteryChat
A3 Anything that can engage Ss and create opportunities for them they might not have otherwise is a good thing! Like anything else it is all about how the T utilizes the tool. #masterychat
Just saw #MasteryChat in my feed! I love the idea of AR for education. So many amazing applications to aide in a true learning experience. I am running an #AR pumpkin patch at our school this year and I so excited for the 31st! Many Ss have asked me what it will look like...🤫
A1 Augmented means to enhance so to me I use it to enhance my materials. I just learned about HP Reveal and really excited to use it in my note packages! #masterychat
A3: I definitely believe it will have it's place. As the world changes so do the needs of our students. As a teacher I try to be equal in their knowledge to keep current. #MasteryChat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3: It is like any technology...it all depends on how it is implemented. Is it a babysitter, or is it used to enhance students learning and making the lesson relevant to Ss lives? #MasteryChat
haha Yes you would have! :P
During our last unit, students explored 5 locations before taking on the roll of a Travel Agent to apply Integers and Plotting on a Coordinate Plane. It was very fun #masterychat
see a few Videos here under "Themed Units" https://t.co/uq7bRgez9a
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3 like any other new tool it’s effectiveness will be determined on how it’s used. With purpose and practice it will enhance our practice and provide opportunities to all ss to grow. #MasteryChat
A3 As with anything, there are pros and cons, but I think it has the capability of providing our lower SES and rural students with opportunities they never would have otherwise. Maybe it can help bridge the gaps. #MasteryChat
The tech is becoming more available / affordable, which is great. I'd love to use it in classrooms, but I'm leery of revolving all teaching around tech. It's important to remember that it's first and foremost a tool. #masterychat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3: I say YES! We want students to be engaged in what they’re learning & with my district having such a hardcore push on writing/literacy, we need some AR/VR in our classrooms to get the excitement back into learning! #masterychat
A3: If we respect ethics & morality in AR/VR, then I believe it's good for education. Being aware of complete immersion for Ss cannot be overstated! There are so many experiences I can give Ss that they would've never had otherwise. It's a highlight in our school. #masterychat
A3 It's great! Ss learning and growing through a connection with people and places that aren't in their immediate surroundings will benefit them and their community #MasteryChat
A3 Did humans benefit from video, when motion picture was invented? #masterychat
Some complain about watching movies before reading the texts. VR may endanger actual field trips, but what about the millions that never would have afforded those field trips? Yes, beneficial!
A3: So much tech so fast! I just need time to learn, play and try so I can try with my Ss. Intentionality is key when using VR/AR or any edtech. What's the purpose? intention? #masterychat
Q3: oh it’s here! No brainer... why would one deny an opportunity to “fly” across the world and experience walking the alley ways of Italy or seeing the wonders of the world? All this while enriching your education for free! Best free field trip ever! #MasteryChat#Nan3EDU
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3 - From my perspective in the Special Ed classroom absolutely yes, elsewhere in the school, again yes. You are providing experiences for Ss to learn without being confined to the walls of school or an expensive field trip you can do it all here with VR #MasteryChat
A2 I haven't really used it. I attended a Google Camp and learned really cool things to do with VR and went out and bought a class set and there they sit in my closet. I am an old dog learning new tricks and it's been slow going. #masterychat
We must expand learning outside the walls of our classrooms!
In this day and age with content is so accessible, ignorance is a choice.
So.... Yes #masterychat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3 - I think that any type of technology is a tool that can enhance instruction if it’s used correctly. Ar/VR are no different. 20 years from now people won’t even blink about what’s coming next. We must always adapt to what’s coming down the pike. #masterychat
A3 My students were very excited to use #googleexpeditions and they like using #GoogleCardboard for many different activities in the classroom They also enjoy using @MergeVR I think that it can only be GOOD for education! #masterychat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
A3: I think AR/VR is a great way to provide students with experiences they might not be able to have any other way. As a science teacher, I can take my students into an operating room or on the surface of Mars. This is a way to make learning relevant.
#MasteryChat@InstantRel
Agreed!
If our students are fully immersed in technology at home we have to have some at school. Create an experience students will never forget!
#masterychat
A3: Anything that will give students authentic opportunities for practice and application of learned concepts, is definitely valuable in education. I believe AR/VR would provide this opportunity while also increasing student interest and overall engagement! #MasteryChat
A3 No doubt that there are some cool things available for AR in science and VR with virtual field trips. It’s probably here to stay. We aren’t taking math notes with it yet or anything, though. #MasteryChat
Like most technology, it depends on how far down the rabbit hole you want to go. Highend headsets can be very expensive, but are getting more affordable with every iteration. Likewise, there are free options for AR. #masterychat
There may be a cost, depending on how you approach it! There are a LOT you can do with even one phone these days!
Never the less, there are always tech grants out there for larger items or Community Sponsors #masterychat
Finding purpose to use your tech tools is essential to effective implementation. Find your purpose. Then, make it happen! #teachBetter#masterychat#makeitreal
A3 No doubt that there are some cool things available for AR in science and VR with virtual field trips. It’s probably here to stay. We aren’t taking math notes with it yet or anything, though. #MasteryChat
Thanks. Right now I have spots reserved for pumpkins, but will not post them until the 31st. I took the day off and plan to run the pumpkin patch all day allowing students to interact with each pumpkin. The orange papers are for the student created pumpkins.
#masterychat
I like to think of AR/VR as 1-1 five years ago. A few were using it, but it was still an outlier for most. Today 1-1 is almost a necessity. #masterychat
Love it, cost is coming down. AR is excellent need a way for VR management if a whole class. Students Need to create it for true learning. #masterychat
Q3. There's no denying the fact that AR/VR is coming (some say it's already here). What are your thoughts? Is the rise of AR/VR good for education? #MasteryChat
Community sponsors are a GREAT idea! Have you found any in your community that you have worked with?
Anyone else have ideas for possible community partnerships in their area? #masterychat
There may be a cost, depending on how you approach it! There are a LOT you can do with even one phone these days!
Never the less, there are always tech grants out there for larger items or Community Sponsors #masterychat
I like the way you phrased this! So many Ts (I’m guilty of this too) look at Ss video gaming as a bad thing but if we can bring a bit of the AR/VR that our Ss are using at home, they may become more interested in content! #masterychat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
Find something Ss will enjoy.
I saw a lot of #AR for International Dat Day and loved it.
I saw @quivervision had a free pumpkin that students can carve and set up an AR pumpkin patch at my school.
#masterychat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4: AR is useful with the Merge Cube for creating a hand-held virtual model... of anatomy, of the solar system, of the ocean, etc. for up-close study.
#MasteryChat
#masterychat In social studies- tours of far away lands and for us in science frog dissections or even a journey into the blood stream or digestive system is awesome. Just getting to see things they other wise would not be able to experience in such a visual way
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4 I have really only dabbled very little in AR, but a textbook series at a school I used to work at had embedded AR into the curriculum. Ss could scan a page with their iPad and see 3D representations of the content.
A neat idea, but I'd like to see AR go deeper! #masterychat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4: I’ve used it to bring ART and WRITING to LIFE!! My students and I have conversations about how we can UNFREEZE our characters and stories with AR to bring them to life with expression!! #masterychat#TeachBetter@jeffgargas
A3: The rise of #ARVRinEDU is promising. The best idea that came from our exploration of @MergeVR cubes was the idea of using it show off architectural items. One side could be a whole structure, turns could showcase different room designs.
#masterychat
A4 Interacting with different shapes and places, also using @MergeVR to explore solar system, the cube can be used for Ss to even record and narrate #MasteryChat
A4: I introduced AR to PreK/Kinder/1st grade Ss by reading Corduroy and then using @quivervision's Pudsey (https://t.co/oSyBdcrnMC) to allow Ss to create their own Corduroy. Then, we made it dance using the Quiver app. It was so much fun! #masterychat
Used @MetaverseApp and @hpreveal for test questions and to play games, enhance worksheets with video. Used Merge cubes to provide 3D models of objects using objectviewer in presentations . @QloneApp to scan the images for the objectviewer. #MasteryChat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
It has to come down to the purpose for using it Evelyn. If the use is connected to the content, and it is purposeful for your Ss learning journey, use it. If that connection is not there, it's not as powerful. #MasteryChat
A4 - I’ve helped coworkers use it in their content—specifically science using Quiver. Printed cells on coloring sheet and the app turns the cell into 3D AR that asks questions and has study cards attached. #masterychat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4 Digital Puzzle Boxes- similar to @breakoutEDU but challenges on a computer and Ss engage with tablet or phone. Scavenger hunts with QR codes or @GooseChase. #masterychat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4: I don't have experience with this BUT I am thrilled to be in this chat tonight to learn from others. So far I've been clicking away to follow all the different sites people are discussing. I can't wait to check them all out tomorrow #MasteryChat
Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4: I have not seen it as much as others! I know it has its presence at particular schools within my district, so I will be looking into the possibility of implementing it within the ESOL Program. #MasteryChat
I saw this the other day from @mraspinall and it resonated deeply with me.
We have to be able to find new ways of reaching students incorporating what they already know and are interested in. We cannot afford to ignore technology and neither can our Ss.
#masterychat
This is why I love twitter! Now I want to know more and see how I can help the Ts find more ways to incorporate AR/VR in our classrooms!!! #masterychat
A2: I remember reading an article about sporting events using AR/VR to bring fans even closer to the action than ever before. The challenge they face is in determining who owns the rights to the service: the sports team, the stadium, the league, or the provider.

I originally saw #AR being used on International Dot Day & I loved it.
I decided to check out @quivervision & found lots of awesome stuff!
I notices the pumpkin that you can "carve" and knew immediately I wanted to try an #AR pumpkin patch! So excited for the 31st!

Q4. While VR may be a bit further out, AR is becoming more common in classrooms by the day. What ways have you seen AR being used in education? Maybe you've tried it yourself? #MasteryChat
A4 for Hamlet and Gatsby we did Snap Stories for characterization. Using Snapchat filters and themes created AR and made for quite the complex conversation. #aplitchat#masterychat
A4: The only thing I can think of that’s similar to AR is the DoInk app with the green screen because you’re able to use an image and then place an object or person in front and manipulate it however you want. #MasteryChat
A5: I found a variety of FullDive apps on the Google Play Store for VR and am still exploring them in students' hands when they're in the library.
#masterychat
A4: I don't have experience with this BUT I am thrilled to be in this chat tonight to learn from others. So far I've been clicking away to follow all the different sites people are discussing. I can't wait to check them all out tomorrow #MasteryChat

A5: Here are the experiences we own for @htcvive - many of them are also compatible with @OculusRifthttps://t.co/MtudbINQ0r (this is a live doc and a work in progress - may want to bookmark & check back for more info) #masterychat
Q6: Challenge accepted? Think of a way to use AR or VR in your classroom. How will you enhance your instruction, a routine, or an experience for your Ss? Commit to trying it out and sharing your journey with us! #MasteryChat
A2. My kids and I love using LEGO AR Studio on iOS. It allows us to place different LEGO creations all around an area. I've also been using the new iOS "Measure" tool to measure misc items, level pictures, and align items in my house. #MasteryChat
sorry #masterychat for not providing any new info. This is all new to me, but love learning about it. Just got the merge cube app on my iphone so will start there like was suggested.
A6: Made it a goal before I knew how. Hoping to bring virtual field trips to multiple content areas.
Next level? Students creating and curating the VR experience themselves.

A6 I am going to get with our district tech coach tomorrow and see what more I can do with what I have and see if he would be willing to come and coach some willing Ts. Also look into some tech that would be useful in our building. #masterychat
I will get some good footage of my #AR pumpkin patch and let you know how it goes. It should be a pretty cool experience for students. I am always on the hunt for new immersive projects for my school.

A5: Main goto was @nearpod@quivervision There are many different apps for free that can be downloaded in App Store. Image recognition and cloud storage can be factors #MasteryChat
A6: I am going to make a list of all the AR/VR tools mentioned in this chat for my students to check out and test and then reflect on which ones they want to learn more about or try in the future. Basically... make them do the work and I will learn from them. #MasteryChat

A6 Think of something you teach that might be better explored by Ss using AR and VR, history, re-tell a book summary, create a timeline, anything #MasteryChat
A6: Our 7th graders put together a skeleton in @htcvive using the Bone Builder experience. They were timed and are now seeing who had the fastest time in the grade by following along with the brackets outside the media center. #masterychat
A4 I think any of us who “teach like a pirate” augment our classrooms everyday. It’s the little sprinkle of gamification “magic” that makes our ss want to sit up and listen a little more and hang on our words. @burgessdave#MasteryChat
A3: AR/VR has infinite possibilities! Simulating open heart surgery, exploring the Congo, enabling student visits to Mars. Just imagine! However, I fear a diminishing sense of reality for students, a loss of our humanity, & the effect on emotional intelligence. #MasteryChat
This is why I love twitter! Now I want to know more and see how I can help the Ts find more ways to incorporate AR/VR in our classrooms!!! #masterychat
A6-- last year I had my Stagecraft design students use a Go Pro Fusion to capture a design entrance presentations. It was a battle scene between two opposing forces. We then brought in an Oculus Headset to experience being there and defining better mood for it all. #masterychat
YES! I love this. I've been reading a few articles on some doctors in the UK using VR to ease the tension for kids getting immunization shots. Very cool. #MasteryChat
A5: I don’t have much to contribute to this question because I haven’t used AR/VR in my classroom yet but you all gave me tons of ideas on how to get started. #masterychat
Not going to lie @jeffgargas, I've really struggled with tonight's #masterychat topic of AR/VR due to my lack of knowledge. After viewing tweets of different apps, what other suggestions do you have for a newbie?
I'm with you Tiff! probably my weakest area of practice, knowledge in current ed tech, and initiatives right now. Good thing we have #masterychat and our awesome PLN to help us out!
Hey #masterychat - I so enjoyed getting to hang out with y'all tonight and chat #ARVRinEDU - thank you all so much! Gotta go put the kids in bed. Be sure to follow one another to keep the learning going! I appreciate learning with you all!
I want to enhance it even more this year. It was super fun and my high schoolers got very involved. It was like bringing a theatre audience member to you and how to deal with that. #masterychat
I wonder what it would be like to walk into a room full of people who have VR goggles on. How would we socialize? Would we have avatars like in the movie Ready Player One?
PS- Great movie to help you see some of the pros & cons of VR/AR
#MasteryChat
You are all AWESOME!!! Thank you for another amazing #MasteryChat! I am super excited to hear all about your journey with AR/VR in your classrooms! Thank you!!
A2: My understanding (and this may be unclear) is that AR is something like Minecraft where you create your own reality and VR is the ability to be present in another locations via headsets or similar tech. I may be way off. #MasteryChat
Q1. Tonight we're talking AR/VR in education. To make sure we're all up to speed, how do you define/describe Augmented Reality and/or Virtual Reality? #MasteryChat

A6 the social studies teachers have used Google cardboard while studying the Olympics taking Virtual Field Trips to Greece and to Rome to visit museums around the world and to climb mountains! #masterychat
A3 I think balance is key but #AR and #VR extend the walls of the classroom to encompass the world and all things imagined! Resources, while still necessary, need not be the sole consideration. #masterychat
