Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.
How might applying routines to lesson design help a lesson run smoothly? Go beyond passing out paper to how kids engage with the process of learning. #tlap#EduProtocols
#tlap
Hello everyone! I'm Leticia, rhymes with uh-fish-uh. Professional Learning specialist with Corwin Press. Excited to have just met @burgessdave on Saturday!!
A1 When lesson designs are consistent, students can focus on thinking critically and creatively about the content instead of trying to make sense of the directions or figuring out how to please the teacher. #tlap
A1: I like to use each morning to intro a lesson with our morning activator and the stem Bins. So much student choice, yet familiar structure. #tlap#EduProtocols
Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.
How might applying routines to lesson design help a lesson run smoothly? Go beyond passing out paper to how kids engage with the process of learning. #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: I think my lessons would go more smoothly if I provided more of a runway before takeoff... More time built in for prep and exploration before an assignment begins proper. #tlap#eduprotocols
A1 A lesson routine is important so Ss are not caught off guard & lose class momentum figuring out where the class is If a class has routine they are more apt to be comfortable, secures, and take academic risks #tlap
A1: I have protocols for writer's workshops and for class discussion. The students know the format, and anticipate the process. This format takes the anxiety out of what could be stressful for some students. #tlap
I love seeing all the happy, smiling faces in @teachnpineapple#alted PE class. She brings it everyday!
Look at those beautiful #pbis posters in the background. 🤣
#powellpride#tlap
A1: Routines create confidence in students’ actions and give the kids more brain power to be exerted on the learning. Without routine, kids are searching for clues and answers to what the teacher wants, leaving little room for creativity and thinking. #tlap
A1: For my 5 year old on the Autism Spectrum, routines are everything! When Ss know what's coming, it frees their mind to think creatively in other ways. #tlap
A1 When you establish routines and students know what their “sandbox” is, they can gain more leadership in their learning. When you involve them, you give them choice and voice in a strictured environment. Engagement goes up, students shine. #TLAP
Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.
How might applying routines to lesson design help a lesson run smoothly? Go beyond passing out paper to how kids engage with the process of learning. #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: I feel setting up expectations at the beginning of the lesson helps students succeed. If students understand what they are learning and why, and also what is expected of them while they learn the lesson, they will more likely be successful. #tlap
A1: I like utilizing @KaganOnline structures in my lessons!! Ss know the expectations & they can be used in any lesson! It’s an established routine that promotes collaboration & student engagement! #tlap
A1: offering consistency helps students critically and creatively think about the learning and process rather than directions. This is definitely an area I need to improve in next year as I have been trying new things all year. #tlap
A1: The format/expectations of the product become 2nd nature/reflexive. Ss then can focus sole energy on the content being delivered by them... of course this takes time to develop #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: I’ve been dabbling in QFT (Right Question Institute), which has been great at establishing directed, useful, and unique routines to any lesson #tlap
A1: I have the Ss annotate and analyze the proficiency scale so they know what they have to do or know. Because that step is repeated over and over they catch on that they are accountable for moving forward and designing a plan. #tlap
Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.
How might applying routines to lesson design help a lesson run smoothly? Go beyond passing out paper to how kids engage with the process of learning. #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: I do try to maintain a routine to my lessons. There is a warm up section, storytelling section, discussion section, and application section. My hope is that this gives students the structure they need to feel comfortable in the learning process! #tlap
A1 I try to limit the number of "new things" I introduce at once. If a tool takes too long to explain, it had better for worth the time to explain it. I have a nice bag of tools this year that Ss are comfortable with right now. #tlap
A1: I’m a little weak in routines other than our 1st 10-15 min. We start almost every day w/ SSR & Ss know to check the board for what they need/agenda. #tlap
A1) Make sure students are engaged and have a purpose/ job. The more students feel invested the stronger the learning becomes and the stronger the classroom. Make it routine for Ss to be creative, lead and uncover the why #TLAP
A1: offering consistency helps students critically and creatively think about the learning and process rather than directions. This is definitely an area I need to improve in next year as I have been trying new things all year. #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: Routines and Procedures help the lesson run smoothly. For example, when annotating Ss follow the same key and know my routine for annotations. Just like in @EduProtocols mentions- they are focused on content not the "new" procedure. #TLAP#EduProtocols
A1 Routines ensure that nothing gets missed. As a T I felt like I always had grand intentions to promote HOTS, but often fell short in my practice. A routine of including HOTS questions/tasks in my lesson plan helped a lot!
#tlap#EduProtocols
Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.
How might applying routines to lesson design help a lesson run smoothly? Go beyond passing out paper to how kids engage with the process of learning. #tlap#EduProtocols
a1: routines are built in with 'hidden steps' - how to get papers, how to hand in papers, how to get digital work. each common routine helps Ss be successful #tlap
A1: The key to success is consistency. Consistently applying routines to our lessons helps set students up for success and allows them to focus on the objectives and critical thinking. #tlap
Hi, Christine from PA joining in here. I teach US history and sociology!
A1: routines prevent time off task as Ss understand their roles in the classroom. There’s something to be said when they can predict a classroom routine. Better classroom management! #tlap
PS, Addison from Franklin, TN. Teach high school, desire to build new schools for new types of 21st century learning, and I hate the words “You can’t do that” without reason or proof. Hello!!! #tlap
A1: offering consistency helps students critically and creatively think about the learning and process rather than directions. This is definitely an area I need to improve in next year as I have been trying new things all year. #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: routine definitely helps to build confidence so students can lead! When kids know what to expect and what’s coming up, they can take charge and transition more easily. #tlap
A1 I definitely like to spice things up all of the time. But I put activator and daily goals on my whiteboard everyday and students, always look to see what is happening for the day. #tlap#EduProtocols
A1- I love this idea because routines make your classes a much "safer" place for a kid to learn and function well. If they know the "how" then they can get to the "wow" much faster!
A1 Students like consistency. That does not mean everyday a new worksheet! That means consistent directions, how to turn it in, deadlines, expectations #tlap
A1: Structure your lessons in a similar way every time so your students know what to expect. For example, always have a hook that will let them freely explore the topic without fear of being wrong/criticized. #tlap
Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.
How might applying routines to lesson design help a lesson run smoothly? Go beyond passing out paper to how kids engage with the process of learning. #tlap#EduProtocols
✨☠️A1: BITE SIZED PIECES! Our classroom routines come in bite sized pieces, and so do our lessons! I try to keep things moving at a lively pace and in "bites" that are easy for the students to swallow! ☠️✨#TLAP
and the more consistent we are with routines, the less time we have to spend reinforcing them and re-teaching a new routine. Good to see you my running friend! #TLAP
A1: Establishing routines creates a structure where Ss understand expectations and feel safe and then allows for lots magical learning to happen! #tlap
A1 Routine implementation and lesson design go hand in hand...For Ss it builds trust...Trust that things will be consistent...For Ts it creates time instead of draining it #tlap
I wrote all about these #EduProtocols can bring your teaching to the next level right here: https://t.co/xeph7STUgD These Lesoon Frames and Smart Starts are MAGIC!!! #tlap
A1. I made a Conversation Box for students to put suggestions or complements (or private notes for concern) in at the beginning of class. Always good to hear what's on the kids mind. #tlap
A1: Thinking routines help practice th skills of deep thinking and understanding. These routines then become habits of mind and dispositions which empower our students to think critically independently without the help of a teacher. #tlap#EduProtocols
Q1 - - - - - - - > Think about the routines established in your class that make the day to day run smoothly.

Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: In one classroom at #QuincyOn, there are Ss leadership jobs for all parts of the school day. The classroom runs like clockwork and it is managed by Ss. SO empowering and the teacher is able to focus on individualizing instruction. It is beautiful! #tlap#EduProtocols
A1 When I was in the classroom I had ss leaders every day they were responsible for running the morning meeting and brain breaks activities they loved that I trusted them and did way better job than me since they planned it ahead #TLAP
✨☠️A1: BITE SIZED PIECES! Our classroom routines come in bite sized pieces, and so do our lessons! I try to keep things moving at a lively pace and in "bites" that are easy for the students to swallow! ☠️✨#TLAP
Covering expectations/goals/objectives each and every lesson is key to the success if a classroom and of learning. You've got to know where you are going if we are going to get there. #tlap
A1. With routine and consistency Ss can become empowered as leaders of their own learning. Without consistency we allow for creativity, Ss curiosity in seeking learning element, exploring, reasoning, problem solving. #tlap
What a cool idea! Ss record themselves giving feedback then share the video on Flipgrid, allowing me to assess their thinking AND them to continue the discussion another day. @JakeMillerTech = brilliant! #edtech#ditchbook#tlap
The #EduProtocols allow students to more effectively and efficiently learn the curriculum...that frees up more time for creating #tlap experiences, genius hour type lessons, and #pbl Do it!!! #tlap
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A1 Eliminate confusion I am a creature of habit As a teacher I wrote my expectations on a chart in the front of the room daily, I followed the same routine everyday Ss knew what to expect Classroom ran like clockwork the expectations were very clear.#tlap#EduProtocols
A2 Ask your Ss some Qs about the tools they learned to use, get feedback to use to grow on for next year, also by talking w/other Ts to see the types of skills Ss will need, help make connections #tlap
A1: When Ss know what is expected of them during any given lesson, they can concentrate on the actual material. Less confusion on everyone's part and should lead to greater content retention. #watlap#tlap#EduProtocols
A2: Now is the time to test our tools you are considering using, and ask current students for feedback. Also build student portfolios if attainable and attractive exemplars.#tlap#EduProtocols
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2: I am planning on having Ss create guidelines for their favorite projects completed this year, with advice and helpful "tidbits". Keeps them engaged and helps develop sense of community by guiding the next class. Can use diff ways to do this. #tlap
A2 This point in the year is a great time for a lesson on how tech moves students toward their values and how it gets in the way of values-consistent action. #tlap
What about students writing letters to incoming classes? Here is how you can be successful as a student in Mrs. Or Mr. X's class. Do this or do that. Hear it from the kids! #StudentVoice#tlap
Yes!! A lot of times we assume kids know what they’re doing with technology and they’re too afraid to tell us they’re struggling! Google forms are a great way to get feedback. #tlap
A2: Because I get to work with all students in the school, I'm working to be sure I have leaders in my 7th/8th graders who can mentor the upcoming 6th graders. #tlap
A2 My 3rd graders still have trouble collaborating within a Slide document... so more reps with that can surely help as they do this more and more in the future (hopefully) #tlap#EduProtocols
A2: Build a #PLC of fellow teachers to examine, develop, and plan new strategies to incorporate tech with fidelity to maximize learning, engagement, and fun in class. And do it together so when the obstacles appear (and they will) we support each other in helping our kids. #tlap
A2: Next year we go 1:1! I am constantly reading, learning, experimenting with different tech tools to help promote student learning. We did web-design, blogging, twitter chats as a class WITHOUT 1:1. Can't wait for next year! #tlap@Stella_Pollard@burgessdave@ERobbPrincipal
A2: This is an area I need to improve, so I have already purchased books to start research and plan to have a block of time when my younger kiddos are learning more tech skills. #tlap
A2) I always use this time of year to try something new for next year. Ask Ss their feelings and suggestions. They can offer so much to the discussion. #tlap
A2: Make sure we are modeling technology & what we want to see in the classroom for our Ts through professional development for them to see the transfer of learning. #TLAP
A2: With school being almost out I have attended quite a few edcamps the past few weeks. I plan on trying out a bunch of tech with the kids so I can see what worked and what didn’t. This will help me with planning lessons and what technology I plan to utilize next year. #tlap
A2: My 1st graders just finished working on a goggle slides team project for our global friends in @tishrich’s class!! My brain is already thinking of tasks for next year’s class to start doing such projects earlier in the year. #globalcollaboration#tlap
A2: I need to GOAL SET and work backwards! When I know where they can go... where I can take them I then need to know my starting point. That will come when I meet them where they are at. Each st their own spot! #tlap#EduProtocols
A2 One thing I am thinking of for next year is sending home team "paperwork" through google slides, mabe have them sign off on forms. I want to streamline that whole process! #tlap#EduProtocols
A2-End of the year is a great time to let the students explore apps you haven't gotten to yet. Let them teach you a few things. Maybe they can create a portfolio site of their favorite tech tools and techniques to show their next teacher what they can do. #tlap#EduProtocols
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2 I began making a Google doc with all of the new cool things I would like to try next year. I keep adding to it and decided to make it collaborative with teachers so we can begin planning for next year #tlap#EduProtocols
A2 The key is to offer variety and choice. It is never too late. When you use tech to empower, to share with an authentic audience, to learn beyond the four walls; it is never too late. Teach students to adapt, to take risks, to learn. Model that same learning as adult. #TLAP
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
✨A2: TECHNOLOGY BOOTCAMP!✨Going to start off the school year teaching my fave tech tools (#EduGIFs, #BookSnaps, #Sketchnotes, #Flipgrid, etc.) in conjunction with "get-to-know-you" activities. After tech bootcamp, Students will have choice in how to demonstrate learning! #TLAP
A2: I want my kids to memorialize their favorite tech activities of the year, challenges they faced, and advice they would give the kids coming up next year in helping them to face their fears and challenges by discussing how they faced theirs! #tlap
A2: LOVE the ideas I am seeing. The end of the year is a great time to empower students to create projects that can help guide next year's class & to ask for their feedback so you can improve the experience for the next class. #tlap#EduProtocols
The #EduProtocols allow students to more effectively and efficiently learn the curriculum...that frees up more time for creating #tlap experiences, genius hour type lessons, and #pbl Do it!!! #tlap
A2: Eschew being “tired” at end of year and amp up o ideas (from chats/PD like these) that current students can do that will inform our work as T for next year. Don’t give in to fatigue—BITE the opportunities #tlap
This is definitely one of my favorite things to do, try those new ideas, takes some risks, see how it goes, it is great for keeping Ss active and pushing through to summer #tlap
A2 I had ss write letters to the next year class about their fav activity maybe blog to ss in next year or record video or podcast about their fav project and what to expect #TLAP
A2: I've been trying to use more creation tools where they use what they learned... For example a sketch video on how they wrote a theme statement for a book. I'm learning that retention and engagement go up as we move up to those higher thinking skills. #tlap#EduProtocols
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2: I have an appstravaganza day where teams of 2 randomly select from a bowl with cards holding various apps. They have 20 minutes to learn about it and then everyone shares by mirroring their ipads and teaching the class. I always learn something new! #tlap
A2 Ask students how the tech tools they use have changed over the year, or how they have changed how they work with them / what they do with them / what they like about them. Ask which tools they liked more or liked less as the year progressed.
#tlap#EduProtocols
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2: I want to do an empowerment renaissance lesson with 7th grade. Give them background info and let them run with it. They ask the questions, design the rubric, reflect and then get feedback. I want to incorporate more of his next year. #tlap
A2: I think this is a good time to reflect on what worked and what didn't with your present students. Analyzing the struggles they had, so you can anticipate those with your students next year and be more proactive working on avoiding them. #tlap
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2 By doing everything your admin said no to...But in a respectful way😉😂 Google Hangout with a class around the world, projects, Have Ss run the discussion... #tlap
A2 Last summer our staff created a Digital Skills Map for Ss K-12. This spring and summer our staff will be creating common assured experiences for each grade level based on the map. #tlap
A2: #tlap I’d review and reflect upon digital citizenship and how the tech tools supported or took away from Ss as digital citizens. What could I stop/start/continue to support next years class? What is the feedback from my current Ss?
A2: One of the things that I have found that Ss are lacking are typing skills. I am planning for next year a Start Smart in which students will learn typing skills as they introduce themselves to me and their peers. #EduProtocols#tlap
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2 So important!! Goal setting helps to know where we’re going and not introduce every new thing under the sun! Pick a few, do them well, and use tech to support in meaningful ways! #tlap
A2: I need to GOAL SET and work backwards! When I know where they can go... where I can take them I then need to know my starting point. That will come when I meet them where they are at. Each st their own spot! #tlap#EduProtocols
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
Q3- - - - - - - - > Marlena repurposed Caine’s Arcade into a “Smart Start” activity to build culture at the beginning of the year. What is an activity you do already that you might move up in the year and adapt to build culture with your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2: LOVE the ideas I am seeing. The end of the year is a great time to empower students to create projects that can help guide next year's class & to ask for their feedback so you can improve the experience for the next class. #tlap#EduProtocols
Love that, Kim! I was thinking that I would also create a choice board that we fill as well learn new tool so that they can have a choice of their favorite or the best fit. Of course, #sketchnotes will be a choice. 😉 #tlap#EduProtocols
The #EduProtocols allow students to more effectively and efficiently learn the curriculum...that frees up more time for creating #tlap experiences, genius hour type lessons, and #pbl Do it!!! #tlap
A2: My 1st graders just finished working on a goggle slides team project for our global friends in @tishrich’s class!! My brain is already thinking of tasks for next year’s class to start doing such projects earlier in the year. #globalcollaboration#tlap
A2: Try new things out and refine some of the things already put into place!! Also, my kiddos LOVE to either write, create, or make videos to the incoming grade! #tlap
Love you, Stacy! So glad I got to spend the day with you on Saturday! Let's do it again soon! I would travel the SE to see Dave knowing I'd get as energized as I was today! I was so pumped to be back at work! #tlap#mightneedtravelbuddy
A2: The media center should be the hub of the school. Highlight tech tips each week and encourage classes to visit for lessons that incorporate the apps/tools being used. Create student ownership of the space and turn it into something that can springboard into next year. #tlap
A2: Create more of an online presence for my classroom and enlist their help in coming up with the format that will engage them most effectively. #watlap#tlap#EduProtocols
A2: I’m wrapping up 1st grade and gearing up to teach 3rd grade next year! My students are currently into making videos for their #passionprojects so my next step is to try @Flipgrid as a way to empower Ss to reflect, share, teach others with video! #tlap
Q2 - - - - - - - - - > School is almost out. Think of the tech skills your students are using right now. How can you start doing things NOW that will benefit next year’s class? #tlap#EduProtocols
A3: I LOVE the Smart Start called "The Worst Presentation EVER!" Students learn the rules of great presentations while competing to break them and be the worst!! Fun, fast, effective!! #EduProtocols ROCKS!! #tlap
A3 great Q - I'm thinking of the fiery debates that happen later in the year - open with a general one on current events or school topics to teach agreeing to disagree, evidence, listening, counter argument #tlap
A3: Ask Ss to present on a topic they care about. Ss interview each other to learn more. Also, Hangman is old and not "techy" but my Ss have loved trying to outsmart me. #tlap
A3: Sounds pretty cheesy, 🧀 but I also gave each student a nickname and they couldn’t wait to get theirs. Each student by the third week of school had a nickname that we all had used #tlap#EduProtocols
Q3- - - - - - - - > Marlena repurposed Caine’s Arcade into a “Smart Start” activity to build culture at the beginning of the year. What is an activity you do already that you might move up in the year and adapt to build culture with your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A2. I have used more tech this year than ever before, which has resulted in a lot of failing forward. I am taking notes on how to avoid the big problems and get into routines. #tlap
A3) I really enjoyed using @Flipgrid this year and having Ss teach other classes how to solve problems, create videos together, or share their favorite book. #tlap
A3: Creative passion projects to allow students the chance to find kiddos in their class who have similar interests OR for them to learn about something NEW! #tlap#EduProtocols@burgessdave
A3 Build a learning community all year with this activity, Represent & Respond. Honors the diversity in the room while helping students appreciate each other. #tlaphttps://t.co/5phcSbXyVw
A3: I LOVE the Smart Start called "The Worst Presentation EVER!" Students learn the rules of great presentations while competing to break them and be the worst!! Fun, fast, effective!! #EduProtocols ROCKS!! #tlap
A3: Field trip/get off campus as a class. Always a huge boost to class culture. Want to do it earlier and as often as possible. Any time out of the classroom as a class boosts culture #tlap
A3: Definitely repurposing some apps like #padlet#flipgrid to build culture. Also know my 30 Second Pitch needs to find its place much sooner as the culture I am creating is founded on empowerment! #tlap#EduProtocolshttps://t.co/UGJmfq2vJu
A3: I do an activity in January that mirrors the #MyOneWord challenge. I'd love to start that earlier in the year as a word for the entire school year - posting the word where Ss would see it every day! #tlap
A3 I am huge of @responsiveclass go slow to go fast, establish routines and community of learning that’s why the first 6 weeks of school r so important #tlap
A3: Personal stories - Each student writes for 5 minutes a personal story from their summer. Then the stories are mixed up into a pile and students seek out the authors by asking Yes/No questions with a max of 10 per student. The search is where the fun is. #tlap
R2: Great idea! So many times I give my Ss my expectations, but coming from another student would probably be more effective. #watlap#tlap#EduProtocols
A3: This was my first year in 3rd grade after many, many years in middle school. A lesson I would move up is a room transformation or something to show we have fun while learning in my class. #tlap
A3: Our classroom is built on #kindness every day. From #KindnessCapes to taking part in monthly @the_kind_club challenges to global and community kindness collaborations, I would like to grow and extend these culture builders next year and start them earlier in the year. #tlap
#tlap A3 Continue to build our cultural conversation program. @1988project sociology class spoke with a class in Argentina 🇦🇷 about gender inequality. Our HS CE class discussed current issues with a class in Monterrey Mexico 🇲🇽. Ss are engaged and enjoy learning from peers.
A3) This year I also had Ss sign up and do kind acts to earn the chance to be team leader. They got to pick their team, create their logo, name, and cheer. I might pick groups but I want to see my Ss work together at the beginning to create their team. #tlap
A3: I would use a digital breakout as a way to have students work together as a team as they solve codes and learn about history or I could switch up and have them learn about each other or the school. #tlap
A3: We started Jan w/ a read aloud - A Long Walk to Water, sketch notes, and one pagers. One of my favorite units of the year. Good content, engaging, world view…I could go on.
A3 We have been doing #pbl and I am rethinking how we have been using some of the tools for it, @padlet@Flipgrid and @Buncee and doing something more for the connections. #tlap
A3: For sure online chatting, whether through Flipgrid, Google Classroom, or our Class Blogs. I want my students to be comfortable sharing their voices with each other and learning how to positively dialogue with each other. #tlap
A3-Instead of doing "memory book" activities at the end of the year, what about creating community from Day 1 by collecting moments that you tell them will be a part of the class memory slidedeck? #tlap#EduProtocols
Q3- - - - - - - - > Marlena repurposed Caine’s Arcade into a “Smart Start” activity to build culture at the beginning of the year. What is an activity you do already that you might move up in the year and adapt to build culture with your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A3: We did a goods and services project where Ss created goods, advertised them, and sold them to the rest of the school. They used the money they earned to buy canned goods for a local food drive, which they went to the store and purchased themselves...and delivered. #tlap
✨A3: ONE WORD COMPLIMENTS!✨ I do this activity before state testing as an extra boost of confidence for my Ss, but it'd be great at the beginning of the year as well to get to know students better. #TLAP
A3: I love Twitter chats that start with an introduction and some question/whacky fact about yourself to share with group. Awesome to do this as much as possible when a class starts #tlap
FlipGrid is amazing! My Ss don't mind it, unless I make it visible to others. Then they get a little camera shy. I think creating a culture in which these videos are the norm, earlier in the year, would be beneficial to all! #tlap
A3: We did a goods and services project where Ss created goods, advertised them, and sold them to the rest of the school. They used the money they earned to buy canned goods for a local food drive, which they went to the store and purchased themselves...and delivered. #tlap
Q4 - - - - - - - - - > In The EduProtocol Field Guide, Marlena talks about creating memories for kids through meaningful work and activities in class.

Yessss!! Takes what is usually boring...or completely ignored...and make it engaging and effective! They remember them because they had to break them...and they saw how bad it looks! #tlap#EduProtocols
Yes! Couldn’t agree more! It’s SO IMPORTANT for the students to create the rubrics/checklists, etc. for them to have a VOICE, CHOICE, and OWNERSHIP! I mean, come on, we all love to have a CHOICE! #EduProtocols#tlap
A2: Even my PreKers are more tech-smart than I am! What I need to do for next school year is get new and updated apps loaded onto my student iPads. #tlap
A3 #tlap we do open and close the year with a #breakoutedu - shows us early the leaders, problem solvers, avoiders ... and lets us end with a bang @DrLWalczak
A3: We should do more collaborative work at the beginning of the year instead of later. Students get to know each other better as they work to solve problems. It builds an atmosphere of teamwork. #tlap
A3. I used a puzzle and had Ss color pieces of it to explain culture. Each piece they learn it represents them as an individual. Tog. we are a school, and then we take it a step further and apply it to the world!Sim./Diff How do other cultures see us as a welcoming cult? #tlap

A3: PD that has been the most meaningful is that in which teachers get to share their craft with one another, when they are designing something, or there is a challenge. #TLAP
A3: Having to think about this one... I think I'd so more to build a personalized learning community earlier. It took me awhile to really let go -but it's been worth all the work for sure. #tlap#EduProtocols

#tlap. #watlap. #EduProtocols. Hi! I agree that we need to teach the students how to use their phones appropriately. Using them in class to play review games like Kahoot and quizlet shows them fun ways to study.
A5: My goal is to make sure I am using Tech as an authentic tool. If I am just having them make a powerpoint that is not authentic. Having them build a powerpoint and then give a shark tank pitch is. Web design, blogging and other things to prepare them for THEIR future #tlap
A4: Any lesson that brings a little #tlap MAGIC keeps my Ss talking about it for days! The student engagement is at an all time high & they are in control of the learning!! It’s some of our favorite days when magic is involved!
All those things is what helps kids to remember the lesson. For me, in 5th, it was carving a soap ancient Egypt artifact. Can't remember anything else that year! #EduProtocols#tlap
#tlap A4 Our Ss have been fortunate to interact with many history makers through our primary source speakers program. It has engaged our Students and made history relevant. Here are a few of our speakers.
The most memorable lessons are the hands on lessons! Things they create, make, reactions they mix with their hands and can observe the changes with their eyes, observations, building, etc. #tlap

A4: We read the book The Recycled Orchestra— about kids in Paraguay who live on a landfill but use their creativity & innovation to turn trash into recycled instruments. We used the design process to make our own instruments out of recyclables! @landfillhrmnic#tlap
Q4 - - - - - - - - - > In The EduProtocol Field Guide, Marlena talks about creating memories for kids through meaningful work and activities in class.
What are some of your lessons that are memorable for kids? #tlap#EduProtocols
A1: I apply the mantra, “high structure = low stress and low structure = high stress.” My routines provide my students with consistency for expectations, as well as chances to practice, reflect on progress, and improve. #tlap#EduProtocols
A5) I feel like I use tech to allow my Ss to take advantage of experiences and participate with a community beyond our classroom. I want them to learn from and share with others, but also take them places they never have been. Make magic happen! #tlap
A5: I use webquests frequently: why should I lecture via PPT when they have the tools to explore content on their own? Tomorrow’s webquest: exploring 1960s pop culture and analyzing 1960s song lyrics ✌🏻#tlap

A5 I always ask these questions and ask my Ts to do it as well ...is the tech allowing ss to do something that would not b possible...is it empowering ur ss #TLAP
A5: We are focusing on augmentation and https://t.co/tkEkvxeUqM should transform a lesson and take it to the next level. Students are importing data to google my maps and determining earthquake and volcanic activity in relation to plate boundaries #tlap#EduProtocols

A5: I work to create ways of exploring concepts rather than seeking out knowledge or repetitious reinforcement. Tech gives us the ability to explore and I remind myself of that greater purpose whenever possible. Ex: Open-ended question, shared Google Doc discussion. #TLAP
A5: I use #HyperDocs constantly, I want my Ss doing more than just "busy work" it's about research, interaction and collaboration. When it's on paper it's just another worksheet. #HyperDocs with @Flipgrid give students more choice and their voice heard. #tlap
A5: Always wanted to try building a class "green house" and having students track/document with something like SeeSaw. Teacher and classroom goals!!! #tlap
A4: My students participated in a service learning project, and then made a YouTube video of highlights. Watching themselves in action helped keep the memories fresh!
#tlap#TED9190
A5 I try to think, what has not been done. Global collaborations to colearn with other students from various levels. Use video to share learning across the world and collaborate with others. Learn with questions, not only assessing answers. Be different. Be unique. #TLAP
Q5 - - - - - - - - - > When Jon opened Minarets High School, he worked to keep it from becoming an ‘institution of substitution’ for students. How are you making sure that you are not using tech to do what can be done on paper? Share your ideas and examples. #tlap#EduProtocols
A5 #tlap simple - I still use paper, even in 1:1 classroom - pen in the hand is powerful! Sketch notes, quick writes, annotated docs, Ss created cartoons and murals - gotta love it
✨☠️ A5: LOVE using tech to enhance, engage, and experience repetition. A fave is using paper and pen to make #Sketchnotes, then color them in to interact with the content a 2nd time, and finally turn them into an #EduGIFs creation to engage and review! ☠️✨#TLAP
A5: My biggest reason for using tech is to give Ss a choice in how they share their voice. Oh and it’s fun. Fun is sometimes undervalued. Bring the noise, bring the fun (or something like that). #tlap
A5: The only time my Ss have tech. in their hands is at Centers. My Ss don't do much paper/pencil at all! Most of my instruction is learning by doing, hands on. #tlap
A5: I use tech to ENGAGE and MOTIVATE, not REPLACE! Today, I engaged my second grade friends with an ocean 🌊 feel in our classroom with calming music as we created the three main ocean zones! #EduProtocols#tlap Students used Chrome Books for research on plants 🌱 and animals
A5: as long as we remember that modern digital tech is a tool for creation, it's fairly straightforward to stay away from the bottom of the SAMR model
#tlap#eduprotocols
A5: Paper can’t be used in the same way for our #globalcollaboration projects. Using @Flipgrid@Skype social media and other tech tools have allowed our learners to connect with classrooms in a way they never have before! #tlap
A5: Students should not simply answer questions using tech, they should be able to interact with teachers and fellow students, allowing for collaboration. #tlap#watlap#EduProtocols
#tlap A5 We use @TeachingLC resources to assist us with our speakers in class The LOC provides many great primary sources analysis resources to assist Ts in the classroom.

A5: before using tech/paperless, I ask myself if it makes sense, does it add meaning and depth, or does it create an authentic learning experience? #tlap
Q6 - - - - - - - - - > Ken Robinson: “For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail - it’s just the opposite - we aim too low and succeed.”
What is one expectation that you can raise for your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A5. Tech is a valuable asset, especially when we combine it with our knowledge of circuitry or coding and design or develop cool projects which our Ss love doing! #tlap
A5 EMPOWER helps me look at tech. How can it help students explore what matters? Motivate them to pursue meaningful goals? Help them participate in creating meaningful experiences for themselves? Open up to each other? Willingly struggle? Develop empathy and resilience? #tlap
A5: In many situations, the tech/paper “substitution” should be about CHOICE. And, Ss also have the power to show us what can and cannot be new with tech or paper, both #tlap
A5: I 💙 using tech so my Ss can participate in #globalcollaboration projects! My Ss learn so much during these connections & use a variety of tech! It’s been an incredible journey that far exceeded my expectations! They’ve covered so many standards & gained new friends! #tlap
A5- What about allowing the students to make the connection to a substitution or redefinition use of tech? If they decide tech is just a substitute, then let them choose paper or pixel! #tlap#EduProtocols
Q5 - - - - - - - - - > When Jon opened Minarets High School, he worked to keep it from becoming an ‘institution of substitution’ for students. How are you making sure that you are not using tech to do what can be done on paper? Share your ideas and examples. #tlap#EduProtocols
A5: Think #flippedblooms Have students start with creating in mind. What is their artifact of learning? This forces all the rest of the triangle. Create: Blogs, vlogs, writing, video, comics, books, gifs, memes, skit...anything that will make learning sticky!
#tlap
A5: We utilize the SAMR model for tech integration. Technology should REDEFINE the way the lesson occurs.
ALSO VERY IMPORTANT ... remain cognizant that all instructional strategies were once innovative... #tlap#EduProtocols
A5 big focus of mine this head has been using tech to take our learning outside of the classroom walls and connect with others. It’s led to powerful learning! #tlap
Great point! Sometimes if I plan a tech lesson, I have a hard time letting S use a more traditional option…gotta work on really putting it back into THEIR hands. #truechoice#TLAP

A6: Expect every student to accept failure/when something goes wrong. Expect students see the learning opportunities in the "uggghhh" moments. Prepare students for life outside of school!! #tlap
A6: A huge piece that I need to raise is keeping firm due dates. They need to meet deadlines and if they are not met, there is a penalty. If we don’t expect this of them we set them up for failure.#tlap#EduProtocols
Q6 - - - - - - - - - > Ken Robinson: “For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail - it’s just the opposite - we aim too low and succeed.”

I cannot tell you how many times I see teachers missing opportunities to get kids doing just this! The insightful teacher will notice and make that just the thing that we do! #tlap#EduProtocols
A5: Challenge and design promotes blueprint that can then develop into other areas. The quickest way to sketch it is with simple pencil ✏️ paper 📝 #TLAP#EduProtocols
A6 I want my students to challenge & question the status quo. I want them to have fun everyday and create learning adventures that are meaningful and have impact. I will challenge my students to always think differently and create new learning. No limits. Reach for the sky #TLAP

A6: I tell my Ss, "As long as you're doing your best, that's good enough for me!" Everyone has their own level of what they can/can't do. As long as they put forth their best effort, that's all I can ask of them. #tlap
A5: Ss are working towards understanding through our #passionprojects that tech can 1. help you find answers to your questions and 2. when you learn something you have the responsibility of sharing it with others and tech serves as a vehicle to do that on a global platform #tlap

My American Literature students have enjoyed opportunities to write poetry that mimics the structures of classic poets while personalizing their work and style by expressing modern themes and ideals. #tlap#EduProtocols
Ah, so true. And we must remember that what we know today might be outdated in 6 years. So important to keep our own learning moving forward! #tlap#EduProtocols

A5 As a writing teacher, I don’t want students to think they can’t experiment with new techniques and devices if they haven’t “mastered the basics.” Exploration, play, developing a voice, and using it creatively to communicate about what matters—that IS basic. #tlap
A6: this is tough. One thing that has worked is giving rubrics before collecting projects AND having students self-assess. For the most part, they’re honest about their work & give themselves the grades they deserve. I’ve seen improvement and set my expectations higher now #tlap
Q6 - - - - - - - - - > Ken Robinson: “For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail - it’s just the opposite - we aim too low and succeed.”
What is one expectation that you can raise for your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A6- We can definitely raise the bar for the entire class. Use the "big" words. Talk the "smart" talk. They'll ask what it means if you have created a culture of safety for them. So fun to get into those conversations. And they remember most of the time! ☺️#tlap#EduProtocols
Q6 - - - - - - - - - > Ken Robinson: “For most of us the problem isn’t that we aim too high and fail - it’s just the opposite - we aim too low and succeed.”
What is one expectation that you can raise for your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A6) one expectation I want to raise the bar on is allowing more Ss inquiry. I always worry they won’t get their without me guiding so I need to expect more from them more often during the lessons to figure things out on their own. #tlap
A6: I hope to raise their expectation for what assessment looks like. Ss have been trained to think that a single multiple choice test somehow represents everything they have learned in the past several weeks. They deserve better than this! #tlap
A6 raise the rigor stick to deadlines have clear goals with a clear rubric outlining specific expectations everyone should not get an A teachers should not be afraid to let Ss fail forward #tlap#EduProtocols
A6: One big goal for next yr is to try and put more of the actual “grading” into my Ss hands! I want them to be able to better assess their own work! #tlap#eduprotocols
A6: My expectations are already pretty high for my Ss, I think. They usually rise to the occasion. I think one expectation I can work on is the use of the VR Lab without my constant supervision. This would free me up to work with others, too! #tlap
A6: One expectation that I can raise is the power of opportunity. I always thought I had to create it for them and I am learning that they themselves are fully loaded with ideas to create moments! 💡 #TLAP#eduprotocols
A6: I struggle with keeping deadlines- my struggle is with Ss learning at different paces and/or not being able to access tech at home. Every student is different and I just want to be fair to all needs. #tlap
Q7 - - - - - - - - - > In the EduProtocol FIeld Guide, Marlena and Jon talk about fostering creativity through lesson design. What will you commit to do tomorrow to grow creativity in your students? #tlap#EduProtocols
A6: #tlap One expectation that we can raise as teachers is that all Ss can learn to read. There are no “bad” readers, only Ss who haven’t had opportunities to read with a fluent adult & interact w/ text in meaningful ways. Reading is about understanding & meaning making.
A6: My Ss want things to be completed or given to them right then and there. I want them to understand that it is OK for projects to take a few days, or to leave something at school for an extended period of time. We don't need to rush and have everything now. #tlap
A6: I want to continue to empower my Ss to take control of their own learning! By letting go of my need to be in control, I can better support my Ss on their journey to self discovery! I’ll give them the platforms to find their passions & create their own #lastinglearning! #tlap
A5: This one is super important to me... I try to focus on creation - I want my students to make something - a video, Gif, write a story, produce a podcast - I want them to be able to impact the world with their ideas and we start that in the classroom. #tlap#EduProtocols

A6: this year I've been focusing on raising my kids' self-reliance. No coming to me for help until they can demonstrate that they've attempted to solve their problem on their own first! #tlap#eduprotocols
A7: Ask them about their day, their lives, their families. Firm believer in rapport! When Ss trust you and know you care about them as individuals, they will be okay with taking risks and being creative! Create a culture that welcomes the creative. #tlap
A7 Planning on offering some random items for them to create a story about their childhood, not totally sure what, but hoping they will lead the way :) #EduProtocols#tlap
A7: I have a group of Ss creating a BreakoutEDU to use as a class review before exams. I'm going to get out of their way and let them go at it! I know it will turn out awesome! #tlap
Isn't that the truth. In fact, I think we need some projects to be multiple days or weeks long to build that in for kids. We want to free up time for this kind of depth. #tlap#EduProtocols
A6: I think an expectation that should be raised is productive struggle. Students need to understand the value of perseverance and flexible thinking. We need to let them know that we expect them to try and fail as an essential part of the learning process #tlap

A6: We don’t need to show them how to do everything— when offering Ss to create Google Slides, I was nervous that they wouldn’t know how but if motivated by an authentic purpose to create, they will investigate, try, fail and learn how to do it on their own. #tlap#EduProtocols

#tlap A7- creativity is the backbone of my classroom - innovate-share- and create. Allowing my students to make their own choices allows for creativity 🎨
A7 Get students involved in the design process. Have then create the way they will demonstrate learning. Avoid “no” and find ways to empower and say “yes”. We all need to dive and practice creativity. Break limits. Create new challenges. #TLAP

I find it incredible when they come to me and I simply have to ask them one question before they continue on to figure it out! We, too often, simply give the answer. Leave it to them, they can and they will. #tlap
A7: student choice on end product. Some are strong at writing essays while others are strong presenters. Let them choose how to show you mastery of their learning.#tlap

A7: They are planning a service project and are far better as coming up with ideas and donations than I am - I'm going to keep empowering them by saying "Yes" to their ideas as often as I can. #tlap#EduProtocols
