Anne here from the Southwest corner of Ohio. I will continue as a math coach with HCESC next year. This summer will be full of relaxing and family time. #octmchat
Hi, everyone! I'm Jodie Bailey - next year I'll be a K-5 instructional coach (math & literacy) in @HilliardSchools. I'm also President Elect of @ohioctm This summer I'm looking forward to relaxing with some non-professional reading! #octmchat
Jacqui Lehmkuhl here! I will be teaching high school math. This summer I plan on lots of trips to Columbus for Family Fun Days and to read, read, read. #octmchat
Brooke Lovely, @WilsonElem. This summer I’ll be going to Las Vegas, Red Rocks/Denver, and Disney World! I’m making up for last summer spent taking too many classes! #octmchat
Hi, friends! I’m one of the math consultants/instructional coaches @HamiltonCoESC and current President of @ohioctm ... excited to relax, read, & refuel this summer #octmchat
A1: I'm going OLD SCHOOL tonight! OMAP (anyone remember that program?) & @IMPACTmath were awesome because we had indepth PD w/follow ups that allowed us to try things in our classroom then return and discuss. #octmchat
A1 My favorite PD was the summer of 1995 - Project Discovery, an intensive 6 weeks of math constructivist learning which helped shape my thinking #octmchat
A1 My favorite PD was a curriculum fair that Teachers for Social Justice held yearly in Chicago when I taught there. I loved getting ideas for infusing math with justice issues. #octmchat
A1 I think my favorite PD is watching someone else teach my students. I’ve been lucky enough to see this with @cincy_mathanne, @Mrs_Bryant11, and @mathbarb (today)! I think it makes everything more real and approachable when it’s in the classroom with you and your kids. #octmchat
We math coaches agree that we see more growth and change when we are in the classroom with teachers. We love when you invite us in and let us come along beside you! #octmchat

A2. I like to read books about ways of thinking about mathematics. I would recommend Polya's How to Solve It, Mason's Thinking Mathematically. Anything by James Tanton. #octmchat
A2- I highly recommend How to Become the Math Teacher You Wish You’d Had by @TracyZager and anything by @joboaler. I also like Solving for Why by John Tapper for assisting all students. #octmchat
A2 I have been getting a lot out of Visible Learning for Mathematics this year. I also love The First Six Weeks of School and The Morning Meeting Book from Responsive Classroom. Great for new or new to elem grade level tchrs with great ideas for getting up and running #octmchat
A2 Reading @chrisemdin 's "For White Folks What Teach in the Hood...and the Rest of Y'all Too" and enjoying it--great thinking about how to connect to students by understanding their own backgrounds. #octmchat
A2: I loved @TracyZager Becoming the Math Teacher You Wish You'd Had for ideas specific to math teaching. @DavidGeurin Future Driven & @gcouros Innovator's Mindset make me think about how we structure our schools and how we might continue to innovate. #octmchat
A2: my professional read that I love and refer back to is Young Mathematicians At Work series by Fosnot and Dolk. Anyone teaching math or thinking strategies can learn something and have huge takeaways. #octmchat
A1: My favorite Professional Development is Math Camp, @BGSU_CTM. Math Camp provided me the opportunity to engage students using critical thinking tasks while making math fun. #octmchat
Here is Q3: Can you tell us about a great professional learning opportunity that you’re planning to attend in the next few months?
#octmchat@lisageggie@mathrocks73
What is Math Camp? I am teaching at a Math Camp at Xavier this summer for my Math Specialist endorsement. Not sure if that is the same thing? #octmchat
A2 I borrowed Good Questions for Math Teaching by Peter Sullivan and Pat Lilburn from @AngieGarber and it helped refine my thinking on open versus closed tasks and questions. It’s an easy read and you can just flip to your grade and the content you’re studying. #octmchat
A2 Also any books from the publisher Rethinking Schools. They have a Social Justice Math one and other great ones about gender in the classroom, climate change, and so many other important issues. #octmchat
A3: I highly recommend Jo Boaler’s classes How to Learn Math and Mathematics Mindset. They are $99 each and take about 30 hours at your own pace. My district gives 30 contact hours. #octmchat
I love diversity, equity, and inclusion work. I will personally be taking Spanish this summer along with exploring some of my personal identities and how that impacts my teaching! #octmchat
A2: I am currently looking into reading “The Formative 5”. It’s my goal to establish a classroom where the students and I are in constant communication while learning towards an objective. #octmchat
