Good Morning ... another day awaits (or is winding down if you are living in our future in the Land Down Under) ... just be the Best You, You Can Be #bfc530
I've got two:
1. everyone talking at me at once.
I tell them I can only listen to 14 voices at once, and 13 of them are already in my head, so out here it's one at a time.
2. Crinkling plastic water bottles. I just pause (OK, freeze) and wait until they're done.

I get all weird when people won't just sit in the circle, but sit just outside it. So I make them come sit with us and let them know it's my pet peeve. Now they police each other. Hahahaha. #bfc530
I tried to handle situations in class with some humor. Our Humor in the Classroom page https://t.co/FkyyjgCtsw We must be cognizant that our students use as as role models so we have to be careful how we communicate. Model learning from mistakes too. #bfc530
I have...a lot. Ss taking things off of my desk. Or from inside my desk. Or writing all over the whiteboard. Gum chewing (although I’ve gone soft on this one). And leaving things behind and then asking me where their —- is...#bfc530
Students who go behind my desk or take things from it. My desk is my house. If they want to get or see something, ask. If they "enter" without permission, I repeatedly yell "Get out of my house!". I tell them its my alarm system #bfc530
Worries about the freezing rain down here. We were closed yesterday. Could have gotten in a half day. Meh. Whatever. Those decisions are above my paygrade and always wrong now matter what decision is made,.
#bfc530
I probably have a lot of pet peeves, so I’ll continue to list: not picking up your feet and squeaking down the hall, stating, “I need a pencil,” rather than, “may I please have a pencil.” #bfc530
Good morning @SusZanti5 The aunt would say: The past is gone, the future is unsure, but today is an open door, and that's why we call it the present. Smart aunt. Enjoy Tuesday. #bfc530
One weird pet peeve is the sound of plastic water bottles being played with/squished. It almost physically hurts. There has to be a name for that! Or, I’m just a weirdo...probably the latter.
#bfc530
Outside of the classroom, I hate it when students drag their hand along the wall when walking in the hallway. I tell them that I can get them a bucket of soap water and they can clean the walls that they are touching. #bfc530
Yes! I always own it when it's something dumb that bothers me, and ask the kids for cooperation. I'll explain it distracts me or bothers me and request their help. They're always happy to help when they know they're not getting in trouble. #bfc530
Another pet peeve is when people talk in the middle of the hallway and expect you to walk around them rather than being off to the side. But its like the chicken & the egg, did it begin before or because Im a teacher? I don't remember #bfc530
Chairs being pushed in is mine. So, I tell the kids that since I can trip on flat surfaces, they need to help keep me safe by pushing chairs in. It almost always works—unless they are in a hurry! 😁 #bfc530
I share that I will be in my classroom more over the 180 days of school than anywhere else in the world. I know some in educircles want it to be "our clssrm" not mine, but I see it like Im Mr. Rogers inviting kids into my "neighborhood" to learn about history #bfc530
#bfc530 we also have kids who chew constantly on their sweatshirt strings. I've got a daughter who used to be a chewer. It's an oral thing, I guess? We have a LOT of carrots at home and that helps.
I always remind them all of the places the card has touched, and all the stuff that has been on the bottoms of shoes that have touched the same ground. #bfc530
#bfc530 Morning! Sad but true...kids bringing me little treasures (think pencils, a hair tie, erasers from tops of pencils, THREAD for goodness sake) while I am teaching. Their intentions are good but...🤣
Its like Pavlov Dogs, and we don't even have bells. They see the minute hand getting close to the time to leave and they will start packing while Im finishing up the lesson. Im not sure if they even realize what they are doing #bfc530
It makes sense that little things would get to teachers. We are with our Ss for many days in an intense relationship with so many personalities involved. It is funny what gets to me sometimes. #bfc530
Always say its funny that teachers will do everything that we get discipline our students for during faculty meetings, talk quietly, leave to go to bathroom b/c we are bored, play on our computers, etc #bfc530
Oh, the pencil tap! YES!
I usually say, Tappy McTapper, can we save the percussion for music class?
I often get an air-drum solo in reply.
#notwinning#bfc530
We are all home today. Im going upstairs and talk to my wife before the kids wake up. It may be the last time we have this time to talk like adults all day. Have a great day! Im out! #bfc530
This whole thing has made me laugh. I'm going to go be extra patient with my pencil tapping, bottle crinkling kids who sit outside the circle...while I look for my lost whiteboard supplies! Early release today, should be an adventure! #bfc530
My pet peeve is when students leave their lockers open...I leave a little reminder on bright orange paper inside their lockers to close their lockers! #bfc530
We don’t have locks either and our lockers are in the classroom...so I have to see open lockers all day. Kids have been better at closing them since the reminders! #bfc530
As an educator, to some extent, you have to have the abilities to block things out, operate in chaos, and choose your challenges. Modeling this for students is so crucial... in a world full of... many potential things to block out, chaos, and challenges. #bfc530
When students ask for paper, pencil, eraser, etc. I now have a “student center.” Ss know the location and realize the pencils are a “return please” policy. #bfc530
I put a line on the floor about 5 feet away from the actual door. The kids are not allowed to pass that line when they line up! Without that line, someone inevitably ends up in the hallway during lineup. #petpeeve#bfc530
Pet peeve: not putting the Chrombook back in the correct spot - and then not plugging it back in. . . . Or leaving it on the table altogether. #GrewUpInBarns#BFC530
Hey #PLN looking at different and new perspectives on special ed inclusion and self-contained models. What do you use? Teams? Sped T follow studentd all day? By content area? TIA for any and all insights or things youve seen! #bfc530#edchat#edtech#mtbos#sped#Read2Lead
Next Tuesday at 7pm CST. #ShiftThis chat will be moderated by yours truly (aka me). No pressure, right? 😅 It should be fun, so put it on your calendar.
