A1: Clint Winter - Elbert Co. Instructional Tech Coordinator. I need to move around in a non-edu setting #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:01 PM EST
Hello, #TECHtalkGA! I'm Angela, Dist ITS for MS/HS in Forsyth Co! I struggle with following oral directions or something being read to me out loud. I need to see it written down. Tell me a story? All day long! Read me one? I'm lost!
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:02 PM EST
A1: Justin Mewborn ITS Vickery Creek Middle School Forsyth Co. Food for sure has to be differentiated. Especially bbq. Vinegar sauce for the win #TECHtalkGA
  • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:02 PM EST
Craig Ellison Executive Director of Technology Floyd County Schools #TECHtalkGA
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:02 PM EST
A1: I'm Sarah, a 6th grade ELA teacher in Forsyth County. Differentiation outside of edu? How about I need pictures of the new exercises that I'm trying at the gym so that I can understand what I'm supposed to do #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:03 PM EST
I used to work with a T who had to do that in faculty meetings. She always stood at the back so that she could move around! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ClintWinter
  • SFMSBen Feb 5 @ 9:03 PM EST
A1: Ben, AP in Forsyth County! I need Dif when I go to all you can eat places. I need extended time and bigger plates. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:04 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA Q2: How are Ts in your building/district using technology to successfully differentiate instruction for Ss?
  • kdhtigerpaw Feb 5 @ 9:04 PM EST
A1: Kim Hoy - Hart County Secondary Math Instructional Coach. I need structured plans like a couch to 5k to meet my fitness goals. #TECHtalkGA
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:04 PM EST
I did that when I was pregnant! I couldn't handle sitting on our cafeteria stools for more than a few minutes. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess, @ClintWinter
  • ClintWinter Feb 5 @ 9:05 PM EST
A2: Our teachers are using technology to give our students different choices in how to display what they know. #techtalkga
  • mrschz Feb 5 @ 9:05 PM EST
Hi 👋 My name is Cori and I am a HS math teacher in Gwinnett. As for differentiation, I like to be shown how to do something, especially new exercises too #TECHtalkGA
  • RhondaStroud9 Feb 5 @ 9:06 PM EST
Rhonda. Gwinnett County. Lanier HS. LSTC. I need to be comfortable. If I’m not comfortable or the environment isn’t welcoming, I mentally check out. By anticipating basic needs of participants differentiation is automatic! #TECHtalkGA
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:07 PM EST
A2: assigning tasks to individuals or small groups through Google Classroom, using @Newsela to give texts to students at their just-right level, working on giving effective feedback DURING the writing process #TECHtalkGA
  • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:07 PM EST
Q2: They are using multiple sources for instruction and allowing students to select various ways that interest them to show learning took place. Not always new tech, old tech like drawing, acting, and writing work great. #TECHtalkGA
  • kdhtigerpaw Feb 5 @ 9:07 PM EST
A2: Our Ts are using @Flipgrid, @nearpod and Google Forms/Sheets. We are always on the lookout for other options to include in choice boards too. #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:08 PM EST
That is fantastic. We pick different ones around the south to try. Fox bros in Atlanta is my favorite, but Zebs just outside of Athens in Danielsville is what I grew up on. #techtalkga
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:08 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA A2: In my district, I think that Ts are doing a lot more to differentiate by allowing Ss more choice in HOW they show what they know. Rather than just "make a PPT" Ss are allowed to design a presentation around a tool of their choice!
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:10 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA Q3: What strategies do you use to help Ts choose digital tools for differentiation?
  • cybraryman1 Feb 5 @ 9:10 PM EST
My Differentiated Instruction - Pathways to Learning page https://t.co/hPvUPGGbGk #TECHtalkGA
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:10 PM EST
Yes! It used to be make a PPT or poster. Now the options are endless! And students always come up with great ideas that never crossed my mind. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • RhondaStroud9 Feb 5 @ 9:11 PM EST
A2: The LMS we use allows Ts to create learning modules that can be locked for groups of Ss or just 1. It allows for remediation based on quiz grades. And some are allowing Ss choice in the tech tool used to demonstrate knowledge of content. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:11 PM EST
Oh wow! Honored to have you pop in to join us, sir! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @cybraryman1
  • mrschz Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
A2: Ts are using technology I give some choices about how they turn in work I look for different types of assignments to use in math like practice or something they can create (write their own problems) #TECHtalkGA
  • DeborahHuggard Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
    #techtalkga
    • DeborahHuggard Feb 5 @ 9:11 PM EST
A1: Deborah Dawdon County HS media and tech specialist. I need a story to remember facts like history. I've learned so much by watching Crown! Sad but true.
  • ClintWinter Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3: I think I good discussion with Ts would be "What do your students struggle with and what tool can help students overcome that barrier" #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
A2: The ability to choose which students get certain assignments un Google classroom is awesome. So many teachers are finding creative ways to enrich and motivate #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
Right! And how boring was it to see the same PPT or poster for every presentation!! Love the variety now! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MrsBayerLSMS
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3: model strategies and tools for staff - so that they can try the tool and have some experience with it before assigning it to students. I think many teachers are finally realizing that it's ok not to be the tech expert in the room. #TECHtalkGA
  • kdhtigerpaw Feb 5 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3: We try to give Ts new ideas and options and then encourage them to use the data and knowledge of their Ss to make the best choices. #TECHtalkGA
  • CatFlippen Feb 5 @ 9:13 PM EST
A3: As cliché as it may seem, you can’t go wrong starting with learning styles. Also, I enjoy introducing digital tool differentiation via project-based learning (giving students a choice of tool to use) #TECHTalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:13 PM EST
I love "The Crown"! So much time googling what really happened! But then again, historical fiction has ALWAYS been my jam! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @DeborahHuggard
  • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:15 PM EST
A3: We provide PL options for teachers to learn how to integrate various tech tools into the workshop model. We also use gamified PL to model instructional practices with teachers that focus on differentiated learning style. See one, be one. #TECHtalkGA
  • CatFlippen Feb 5 @ 9:15 PM EST
A1: Better late than never, #TECHTalkGA friends (plus @MmeBurgess would get on my case)! Cat Flippen/Jackson Co Schools/Director of Personalized Learning & Innovation. I need to be allowed to show my learning in alternative ways. :)
  • RhondaStroud9 Feb 5 @ 9:15 PM EST
A3: Survey burn out! Plus my Tech Tip Tuesday documents. Last year I started a series of lessons around the GTES standards and I introduced tech tools that will help enhance their ratings on those strands. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:15 PM EST
From your mouth to the ears of the Ts! #TECHtalkGA
    • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:12 PM EST
A3: model strategies and tools for staff - so that they can try the tool and have some experience with it before assigning it to students. I think many teachers are finally realizing that it's ok not to be the tech expert in the room. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:16 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA Q4: What is the role of the ITS, MS, and/or admin in helping Ts choose and implement digital tools for differentiation?
  • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:16 PM EST
This is the correct path! #TECHTalkGA
    In reply to @ClintWinter
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:16 PM EST
Love the idea of gamified PL! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @thecraigellison
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:18 PM EST
A3: I am finding ways to expose teachers to new tools. My Techie Tuesday fearure that I share always has suggested uses. Sometimes they find ways that I didnt think of. #TECHtalkGA
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:19 PM EST
A4: understanding the needs of both students and staff, model best practices and a growth mindset, build a culture that encourages teachers to take risks, and being accessible to teachers #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter Feb 5 @ 9:19 PM EST
A4: #Techtalkga I think that our role is to model research and show tools that will make differentiation happen in the classroom. By no mean, should we be the masters of the content but we can be advocates to show teachers how our Ss can maximize their learning opportunities.
  • kdhtigerpaw Feb 5 @ 9:19 PM EST
A3: #TECHtalkGA I am looking for the best ways to get info out to Ts. We tried a weekly Google Slide update and are thinking of a website to house ideas. It seems like Ts are overwhelmed sometimes with what to choose! I am open to any and all ideas!
  • SFMSBen Feb 5 @ 9:19 PM EST
A4: i try to find ways to say "yes" to teachers who want to try new digital tools in their classroom. #TECHtalkGA #postedthistotlapfirst
  • CatFlippen Feb 5 @ 9:20 PM EST
A4: ITS/MS/admin first and foremost should always MODEL implementation of digital tools for differentiation. Practice what is preached! Another best practice is to provide a menu of supported tools for differentiation with a variety of PL options for Ts to learn more #TECHTalkGA
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:20 PM EST
A4: I am finding that the role is ever changing. I try to expose teachers to new tools that ate easy to implement, then coach them on ways to implement. #TECHtalkGA
  • mrschz Feb 5 @ 9:21 PM EST
A3: I try to find tools to use in math class that I could share with others like the activity builder in Desmos #TECHtalkGA
  • CatFlippen Feb 5 @ 9:21 PM EST
This is beautiful, @SFMSBen. This is the example for school leadership to follow: saying "yes" to the teachers! #TECHtalkGA
  • DeborahHuggard Feb 5 @ 9:21 PM EST
A4: Help them narrow down the choices! I use padlets for each subject area and quickly save resources to it when I find new ones. Allows for likes and comments which is nice so teachers can share their feedback. #TECHtalkGA
  • crazymrst Feb 5 @ 9:21 PM EST
A4: Communicate. Find likes/dislikes with digital tools. And then ease in one thing at a time. Often times we bombard with the latest/greatest and overwhelm Ts. See how one tool will work before adding on. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:21 PM EST
Yes! This is SO TRUE! I hope to do ALL of these things, but I know that it's hard sometimes for Ts (just like Ss) to try something new. Our fear of failure is so deeply ingrained, it's hard to ignore! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MrsBayerLSMS
  • RhondaStroud9 Feb 5 @ 9:22 PM EST
A4: At the moment we’re revamping how technology is being presented and used with instruction. The MS and I are working together to make the media center a more collaborative work space than what it currently is. #TECHtalkGA
  • mrschz Feb 5 @ 9:22 PM EST
A4: we have a specialist for our LMS assigned to our building who I work with and she shares ideas with me that I can use in class. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:23 PM EST
Last question coming up in 1 min, #TECHtalkGA!
  • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:23 PM EST
A4: ITS are leading the charge with PL. Simple guided instruction for all levels and always seek Ts out for one on one collaboration. Our MS are supporting growth with modernized media centers. Admins are the lead learners and support their Ts in the classroom. #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:23 PM EST
Stepping outside of the comfort zone is the battle we fight in this role for sure. It is something I am trying to embrace, but it is tough. #techtalkga
    In reply to @MmeBurgess, @MrsBayerLSMS
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:23 PM EST
Yes! I try to point out that I can NEVER be the content expert (unless you're a #langchat T!), but that I can work with you to design instruction that lets your expertise shine! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @ClintWinter
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:24 PM EST
#TECHtalkGA Q5: What are your top 3 tools for digital differentiated instruction?
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:26 PM EST
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:26 PM EST
As a T, I like short updates. Or a resource like "need help w/ x? Then try y." Maybe Padlet wall or flipgrid where Ts could share ?s or strategies. I really would like a drop-in help time where I can see the ITS w/ my questions #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @kdhtigerpaw
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:26 PM EST
    Forgot to add...and WHY?? #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:27 PM EST
Absolutely. Once they see the relevancy, they are hooked. #techtalkga
    In reply to @DeborahHuggard
  • ClintWinter Feb 5 @ 9:27 PM EST
A5: we have a subscription to @texthelp that has helped many of our students overcome barriers. @googlemaps to help making the abstract concrete for some learners. feedback from Google Quizzes. And @Flipgrid to make learning colllaborative. You said 3 but I went 4 #techtalkga
  • mrschz Feb 5 @ 9:28 PM EST
A5: my top 3 are our LMS for our district, Google form with release conditions, and websites like Delta Math or Desmos where I could pace or assign to different Ss #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter Feb 5 @ 9:28 PM EST
@design2research welcome to #techtalkga my friend!
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:28 PM EST

    In reply to @JustMewborn, @Flipgrid, @nearpod, @blendspace, @Flipgrid
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:28 PM EST
I used to do this! Every Tues AM, my "Tech Café" was open with coffee, snacks, and I was ready for whatever Qs popped up! It's now one of my goals to somehow start in my new role! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MrsBayerLSMS, @kdhtigerpaw
  • kdhtigerpaw Feb 5 @ 9:29 PM EST
A5: @Flipgrid to get all levels of learners talking about content; Google Slides/Drawings; @Nearpod #TECHtalkGA
  • JustMewborn Feb 5 @ 9:29 PM EST
A5 CONT: Engagement! All of these tools encourage student engagement. #TECHtalkGA
  • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:29 PM EST
A5: 1. Empathy for the student 2. An open mind 3. Never saying “That’s not how I learned it.” Three tools that will never go out of style. ;) #TECHtalkGA
  • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:30 PM EST
    Engagement is key. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @JustMewborn
  • RhondaStroud9 Feb 5 @ 9:30 PM EST

Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to all of you for joining in! Hope to see lots of you this weekend at #edtechteam's Southern Summit!
  • kdhtigerpaw Feb 5 @ 9:31 PM EST
Thank you so much! I have maintained a collaborative Google Sheets that is shared among math Ts that is similar to the Padlet. I also provide appointment slots in my Google Calendar that Ts can use to have one on one time. I'm a newbie at coaching! #TECHtalkGA
    • MrsBayerLSMS Feb 5 @ 9:26 PM EST

A5: all of the things I mentioned are integrated through our LMS #TECHtalkGA
  • mrschz Feb 5 @ 9:32 PM EST
A5: cont... like the tools that alllow the differentiation for remediation as that tends to be the largest group I work to target. The opportunities for extensions are there too when the basics are mastered #TECHtalkGA
  • ClintWinter Feb 5 @ 9:32 PM EST
.@design2research great idea to turn the town purple last night. That was a great touch. Justin Timberlake looking like he got his outfit from the goodwill in Gatlenburg TN. . not so much #techtalkga
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Feb 5 @ 9:33 PM EST
LOVE THIS! Tools are more than just specific sites - they are also engagement strategies that help make us good Ts! It's important to remember that we were good Ts before tech was a thing (or at least, some of us...others were good Ss before tech was a thing LOL)! #TECHtalkGA
    • thecraigellison Feb 5 @ 9:29 PM EST

  • CatFlippen Feb 5 @ 9:34 PM EST
A5: (1) Tools that provide an equitable learning experience district-wide, (2) tools used appropriately + routinely, (3) tools that are effective at showing student learning/mastery. No one tool can do that. It’s really how the TEACHER empowers the tool. #TECHtalkGA #justsaying
