A1: we assess our students so that we can better understand what they DO know in order to continue to foster strengths and support challenging areas #AppleEDUChat#d100inspires
A1: I assess to get to know my Ss misconceptions and to find my holes in teaching. I assess to see how my Ss can explain their task using their voice! #AppleEDUChat
A1: we assess our students so that we can better understand what they DO know in order to continue to foster strengths and support challenging areas #AppleEDUChat#d100inspires
A1: To guide where I am headed with my next lessons. Who needs more work on what concepts. Communication between myself and the students, as well as their parents. #appleEDUchat
A1: I assess to see Ss progress; to find areas for improvement and celebrate successes. Pointing out S's success is key as it helps to build confidence as they see how much they've grown. We keep working to improve where they struggle & their successes feel them. #AppleEDUchat
A2: Delivering assessments allows me to deliver content to all Ss at THEIR own rate. Do not underestimate the power of pause and rewind. And I can then focus on a small group of Ss in a calm environment. #AppleEDUchat
A1: Hi #AppleEDUchat! Casey here from Philadelphia. I assess to see what my Ss know and can do based on what they have learned - to see if my objectives have been met.
AppleEDU: RT ms_carbone: Today is the day! Lights, camera, ASSESS! #AppleEDUchat can’t wait to hear your awesome ideas tonight at 9pm! https://t.co/LPvOzrmM7N

A1: Track progress to adapt or CELEBRATE, discover an prior knowledge or missing links, identify what is next. Challenge some and support others. #AppleEDUchat
A2 having instructions on video allow students to replay directions as many times as they want so they have a firm understanding. Having captions on video help to make it UDL friendly. #AppleEDUchat
Q2 video assessments allow students to explain their thinking and the process. This helps teachers with any misconceptions or AHA moments students may have really caught on to. #AppleEDUChat
A2: I love that video pairs so easy with systems like Schoolwork, or most LMS. You can easily record yourself giving directions and send it to your Ss. If they have questions they can refer back to it. You can also easily show examples, talk rubrics, resources, etc #AppleEDUChat
A2: I have not done a ton of video assessments, but using it in spelling has helped me give multiple tests at the same time. This allows me to meet each kid where they are at and push them to their next level. #AppleEduChat
A2: Video helps me assess my ELL Ss speaking and listening skills. Ss can watch a video and create a product to demonstrate listening skills. Or Ss can create videos to practice speaking skills #appleeduchat
A2: It is a great way for Ts give prompts, pose questions, or even have students reflect in their own self-assessment! :) Video isn't reliant on an S's reading ability which removes some of the limitations of traditional assessment. Plus, it's way more fun! :) #AppleEDUchat
A1: Assessment is critical to support and modify our approach with learners. It helps us know if we are really teaching what we think we're teaching! #AppleEDUchat
A2: What was the question?
Replay.
Can you repeat that?
Replay.
What was that 2nd piece of a multipart task?
Replay.
Video is a really practical way to make sure that students have access to the assessment.
#AppleEDUchat
Video helps students to understand the task regardless of language acquisition & allows students to replay parts that they need to hear again #accessibility#AppleEDUchat
A2 I use video in all of my assessments as I teach ASL!! The last quiz was a video of me signing a story and they wrote what I was saying...simple but awesome! Each student could watch as many times as needed!! #AppleEDUchat
A2: I love using video to have my students explain their process. It's so much more important to me than a final answer. @Flipgrid makes it easy to share and screen recording over note taking apps is super easy! #AppleEDUchat
YES! I love using video for this! :)
I also just finished a "Frida Kahlo" symbolism project with my Ss. With Clips, they explain each symbol, & label it as direct, indirect, or abstract. At the end we will watch and learn more about each other! Fun assessment! #AppleEDUchat
A2: Giving the option of turning in video assessments or written assessments makes it less stressful for students who struggle with writing. Gives a voice to Ss who may normally not write anything. #AppleEDUchat
A1: Assessment plays a vital role in special education, in determining student eligibility and needs. I use assessment every day with my ss #AppleEDUchat
Yes, and... they can help ensure the same information is delivered to multiple groups of Ss, and are a great resource for anyone who misses class. #AppleEduchat
A2: I use video to assess learning, but to deliver the assessment-it would be powerful for a student to hear from me! (Something simple-but even on a sub day...upload to LMS... make the sub’s job easy!). Playback over and over as many times as the kids needs! #AppleEduchat
A2: right now my CS students are screen recording a level they completed in Swift Playgrounds and using Clips to make it into a cohesive explanation of their problem solving #AppleEDUchat
A2: with programs like #Seesaw Ss can easily video themselves reading text or a writing sample aloud. This video can then be shared with parents. #appleeduchat
A2) Video removes the reading, understanding & responding on a short timeline for many Ss. I can model in a video they can replay. Responding in video allows all Ss to show what they are learning/know. #AppleEDUchat
Q1: To improve student learning and help teachers plan effective instruction. Video allows for teachers to see student misconceptions on a concept. #AppleEDUchat
A2: Video helps students to go back and check their understanding of the expectation. It allows for auditory and visual support. It also free up teacher time. "Wait what do I do?" "There is a video for that!" #AppleEDUchat

YES! Dictation can be so helpful for this too! They can speak to their iPad and level the playing field. Even better, it helps them connect the words they speak to the way they spell/read them. #AppleEDUchat
A2: I love using video for assessment in speech therapy because it increases student reflection and engagement. It’s an effective way to track data and support self-monitoring #AppleEDUchat
A2 They can be a way to make individual connections with students. For those who teach distance courses, videos can also be a way to have more presence - show that there’s a real person behind the curtain. #AppleEDUchat
Seriously, the loons of the left can't get Trump so we go after Melania? These people are gross! BREAKING: Melania’s Spokeswoman Calls For Boycott After Rapper Depicts Her Stripping In Oval Office https://t.co/5ErqMOSgD9 via @ILMForg
YES! I love using video for instruction in this way! When an absent S returns, they can have the EXACT same instruction! Even better...I just had a S refer back to something we learned last year and ask how to do it. Within 2 min he was relearning from the video #AppleEDUchat
A3: My go to tools are CLIPS, and just the camera app! Clips is so easy to use, super engaging and allows for accommodations with foreign language (live titles) and many others, and easy to share out. #AppleEDUChathttps://t.co/joLR95eabm
Often we try to remember what we taught or scramble for makeup work. Video instructions allows for present and absent Ss to receive the same information! #AppleEDUchat

A3: currently I have them use the built-in camera app on their chromebooks to record their explanation. They submit via google classroom. Next week green screen is being introduced. #AppleEDUchat
A3) i like Clips it's super fun and engaging. It makes S's think it's a lot like social media websites with all the different options it has. Also, the basic camera app can be powerful as well. #appleeduchat
A2 Video is my FAVORITE for students & teachers! So many reasons-better understanding of directions, shows student creativity in responses. Speech to text is awesome for both! I love #appleclips#AppleEDUchat
A3: There is no video tool my Ss use more than Clips! They love to use the features and filters to prove their knowledge in vocabulary or fluency! #AppleEDUchat
A3) We are using Keynote to demonstrate & animate learning - using screen record then into CLIPS! Young adults enjoying @bookcreator & @explainevrythng templates #AppleEDUchat
A3: Love @Flipgrid, Clips, @Seesaw, and camera app for creating videos. If we’re doing a more complex task and want to capture the process iMovie is also a great tool. Plus the creativity that green screen like @DoInkTweets allows for is great for engaging kids. #AppleEDUchat
A3 My Favorite video tools... #Flipgrid! To easily view videos right after each other...#SeeSaw To Comment back quickly and #AppleClips because students love it and all the features that enhance their responses! #AppleEDUChat
A3: Clips is great in the history classroom (or any classroom!) It’s so easy to use, yet very powerful in spawning creativity in conjunction with other iOS apps #AppleEDUchat
A3: Ok...so I say this every chat....but it is SO TRUE.....CLIPS! :) #ClassroomClips is the BEST! Fast, easy, copyright friendly, and students love it! :) This was a fast easy reflection on their self-portraits :) #AppleEDUchat
A3: A student of mine created her 🥈 award winning @NationalHistory documentary using Clips, all while having no previous editing experience! #AppleEDUchat
A3) We are using Keynote to demonstrate & animate learning - using screen record then into CLIPS! Young adults enjoying @bookcreator & @explainevrythng templates #AppleEDUchat

Tools like @goswivl allow teacher to focus on teaching & then get a truly objective view of their teaching from the video to reflect on & improve #AppleEDUchat
Yes! We are building our learning artifacts for each quarter in Pages or Book Creator. We no longer consider it app smashing - it is what we do to show what we know. #AppleEDUchat
Tools like @goswivl also allow teacher to curate videos for LMS or website for students who need to see/hear/watch again or who were absent #AppleEDUchat
A3: clips of course!!! Seriously though I tried a new thing where I only used one app to create last year...Clips was it! What a powerful tool to share learning. Here is a video of parents using clips to share with their kids #AppleEDUChat
A4 Videos lower my Ss affective filters and boosts their confidence! This is a StoryChamps that @speechydoesit helped with in giving Ss voice about stories! #AppleEDUchat
A4: it lets the students who have challenges showing what they know on paper have the ability to explain and show through examples what they know on video. It’s a game changer #AppleEDUchat
Already kind of said this but it makes the assessment verbal, which can help those who struggle with reading/writing. It takes away some of that nervousness/discomfort and allows the S to shine! #AppleEDUchat
A4: editing video focuses us on both the content spoken and the fluency with which it’s communicated. Just holding up the camera causes subjects to up their game and the audience filming to lock in on what’s being said. Video is how we enter into active listening #appleeduchat
A4) When the class is using video assessments - Ss that struggle do not stand out as different. They can show the creativity they don’t access when using so much energy to “keep up” #AppleEDUchat

A4: video can give so many options! Different languages, add text to enhance communication. Help get a student out of their comfort zone! #AppleEduchat
AppleEDU RT ms_carbone: Today is the day! Lights, camera, ASSESS! #AppleEDUchat can’t wait to hear your awesome ideas tonight at 9pm! https://t.co/NbFUnjmlns
A4: Makes it 100 times easier to meet each student where they are at, instead of trying to fit all Ss in the same box. Opens the door to know more about what each Ss knows! #AppleEduChat
A4: Video is assessable for my speech Ss because it lends itself so well to scaffolding. All of my Ss from PreK- 5 love learning through and about our video tools. It’s incredible to see their expression and independence grow #AppleEDUchat
A4: Many kids love to tell stories about themselves; It's the whole "show and tell" or "star of the day" idea. Video allows them to be the star and tell their story in a way that can be much more fun than writing! Especially if they struggle with reading/writing. #AppleEDUchat
A4) It gives them the option to level the playing field. They can talk their answers into the video if they struggle getting their thoughts down on paper. #appleeduchat
A4: It can be a real picture into students understanding of concepts. So many times we are asking students to respond in writing. Video helps learning styles and abilities respond in a way that is meaningful to them! #AppleEDUchat
A4: I like video because it doesn’t deter kids from using certain words because they are afraid they will misspell them! It also gives them an opportunity to make a stance and support it! The communication skills it teaches are great real-world skills as well! #AppleEduChat
A4 Accessibility is what I love about video… In the past the students would have to ask to repeat what I was signing & it would be obvious to everyone who needed repeats. Now they watch the video as many times as they need and no one has to know. #AppleEDUchat
A4: video can not only make the content of assessment accessible to learners through on-demand replay, captions, and modeling, but it also provides another way to make learning more accessible to teachers. Not all learning shows up with 📝 #AppleEDUchat
A4: Video assessments allow all learners to participate and really show that deeper learning rather than just guessing on multiple choice test. Audio, visuals, connecting to real world, having a voice that means something. You can really get inside ALL S thoughts! #AppleEDUChat
A4: When described and captioned, video is accessible for all. It supports the needs of english language learners and learners w/ more traditional print disabilities. Pairing visuals with audio is powerful! Allowing learners to repeat as much as they want. #AppleEDUChat
A4: Video allows all students to show their creativity, in addition to their abilities! The results with video are way better than fill in the blank/bubble sheets that all look the same. It even makes reviewing their work more fun! #AppleEDUchat
A2: I used video assessments with my students to progress monitor toward IEP goals. To help them make meaning of their learning by explaining their process. #AppleEDUChat
A4 It’s another tool/method to reach students in a way they may learn best. The accessibility of video is improving too: automated captioning is getting better and faster. #AppleEDUchat
A5 As education should be accessible to all students, we should make coding accessible as apart of education. Even with minimal technology tools, sequencing can be used in literacy and math lessons.
YES! It reminds me of the old Sing Along videos! The combination of hearing/reading makes it so much more powerful for learning than receiving either verbal/written exclusively. It helps them build the connection between the sound and how it is written/read. #AppleEDUchat
A4: Video utilizes Universal Design for all students and allows accessibility through resources like visual, auditory, close captioning, and braille allowing students to demonstrate their strengths and what they know. #AppleEDUChat
Video allows students to process or rehearse their thinking or performance, watch, reflect, & revise giving them more ownership over improving their learning #AppleEDUchat
Thanks for a fun chat! @FelecityTreptow@ms_carbone When working with learners on developing their own strengths and passions, video is an incredible powerful tool to show what they know and document their journey! Artifacts to showcase the journey! Love it! #AppleEDUchat
YES! :) So true! <3 That's a huge part of it! Lots of adults don't believe they can be creative...so we make excuses! That's the whole idea behind #ArtWithoutExcuses! :) #AppleEDUchat
Just jumped on twitter right at the end of today’s chat. But I have it in my calendar for next week. Good to see some familiar faces here! #AppleEduchat
A4 it has been my experience that student created videos saved in @seesaw promotes student review sessions in class without the teacher even asking #appleeduchat
How fun and engaging is this assessment! @KristenBrooks77 teach us all your ways! Holy cool! What did you use so that her Keynote was the green screen? #AppleEDUchat

Me too!! I don’t do it everyday, but often. We also have block schedule, so sometimes a video as bell work is perfect! And then we get to the critical thinking! #AppleEduchat
Thank you everyone for sharing so many thoughts and ideas. This has been a great 1st experience (of chatting on Twitter) for me. I look forward to attending more such chats and learning more from you all. #AppleEDUchat
A5: here’s a clip from an interview that students submitted to apply for a reporter position. It told me a lot more about their comfort interviewing and being on camera than anything else could have! #AppleEDUchat
