Hi Paula & @JennRegruth How are you all doing? We are finally thawing out - all our 15 inches of snow might disappear by the end of the week...Crazy! #4thchat
A1: I think that if you have a goal you shouldn't wait until the new year, you also need to have a place and time assigned to each goal. I did set several goals over Christmas break and have done well so far. #4thchat
#4thchat A1 Honestly haven't ever been much into New Year's resolutions, however I am conferencing weekly with Ss to help them choose a weekly goal for learning. We also talk about a 10 year goal and how life is the balance of those two goals.
A1 Always good to feel like a fresh start. Setting goals that are both achievable and measurable are important. My Ss set a school goal today & are working on breaking 1 bad habit! #4thchat
#4thchat A1: Working with Ss more from a #growthmindset approach in the conferences. Listening to Ss to see what they say they are doing well and what would be a good goal. Learning lots.
A1: I think setting New Year's resolutions or goals is a great way to get students motivated when coming back to school after the holidays. Setting short and long term goals could also be a fun way to assess students for the remainder of the year #4thchat
A2: I had the best intentions of doing so! I'm thinking I will end up focusing on making new goals for the next quarter instead in a few weeks. #4thchat
A2 We shared our goals using @Seesaw. Ss set a goal and responded to others, so we can all support each other. My goal with the class is to leave no papers on horizontal surfaces. #4thchat
#4thchat Long and short term goals are interesting. Several Ss say they want to play professional sports. They hadn't thought that most pros are recruited from colleges. Best to be in college then if that's your main goal. (Other good reasons of course).
What do you mean...place and time? I try to make some smaller, specific goals that are more manageable. #4thchat Nothing worse than giving up because goals are too LOFTY! #4thchat
place and time as in if you have a goal to read more, you need to have a place where you will read and a certain time each day you will do it. #4thchat
It's hard for students to set goals - I love that you're listening & helping them through it. Heard some gr8 goals in @MzEngasser 3rd grade class today! #4thchat
I used to set SMART goals with my students in the past. I found don't think I followed up as often as I should have. But I think they understood the idea instead of saying "I want to be better at Math". #4thchat

A5: I think we/students need to work on those all the time. Perhaps make a goal for all three, and then pick and choose when to focus on each type. #4thchat
They say that sharing your goals with others makes it more likely you will achieve them. Good luck with your goal. I have been known to have papers on flat surfaces too. #4thchat Good luck!!
A4 #4thchat I would choose #mindset. Beyond the buzzword there have been some deep places to reflect from @joboaler@gcouros C.Dweck and others. Also some warnings about things like #falsegrowthmindset. I keep finding nuances and redefining mindset, reframing things.
A5 Yes. Setting goals for Ss based on their needs is so important. So many come to school with more needs than just academics, it's important to encourage these goals with conversations. #4thchat
A6 #4thchat I would like to give quicker and more meaningful feedback on S writing. Am thinking this needs to be one on one and lot earlier in the writing process. Lower tech more relational. Less comprehensive and more effective.
That is some deep thinking! It makes sense the way you explained it! #4thchat BTW-I #appreciate (#oneword18) you for encouraging me to go for Google Lev 1 and 2.
A6: As a student, 1 goal I want to accomplish during the second half of the school year is finding a balance between academics and a social life. College is a great opportunity to build relationships & make connections with peers & professors, so I should take advantage #4thchat

I love that you chose the word balance because that is something I need to work on as well. It's hard with so many things going on, but it is so important! #4thchat
A6 I am working to better my communication with families. Sending out personal @RemindHQ messages sharing positive stories helps create community #4thchat
Once they get logged into our Google account and make a copy of the hyperdoc with their name on it, took them about 15 minutes to revise the template to their #oneword#4thchat
A7 I want my students to connect globally and start to understand how large and different our world is. I just signed up @Belouga_ and have been matched with a class in Ghana #4thchat
A7: I established the 40 Book Challenge at the beginning of the school year with my Ss. Will revisit and see where they are. Set 20 Book Challenge for second semester. #4thchat
Also if a student wants to have all of the Battle of the Books read by March, they may want to instead have a goal to finish one Battle of the Books book each week. #4thchat
These get out of date, but here is a #4thchat Google Certification help I made. https://t.co/HkjyYkDvAZ The main issue I would say for most people is not "passing" the exam, it's managing time during the exam. The trainings/exams are well laid out and are things to do not facts
A6: For me one goal I have is to begin blogging again. I would like to blog at least 1x/month. I used to be very consistent & then I lost the drive..hope it's back. It was a great way for me to reflect on my practice and my day. #4thchat
It gives you a record to....That's why I love "to do lists". When I cross off each item I feel like I'm doing something. If I write goals down I can look back to see what was accomplished or tweaked. #4thchat
Place is often overlooked. I think the time is big too because it's easy to just keep pushing a daily goal back further and further until somehow you end up in bed. #4thchat
A8 I think setting up structure to do either would be great! My vote would be read more books. The benefit of reading can benefit so many more. #Inspired#4thchat
You are very insightful and optimistic! Great qualities for life. You are well on your way! Glad you are here tonight to add to the conversation. #4thchat
Thank you for welcoming and including me in the conversation tonight! I always get a little nervous doing these chats since I don't have the experience you guys have!! #4thchat
Absolutely!!! Make sure you take time to find that balance...having fun & learning too! Some of those relationships will last your lifetime! Enjoy! #4thchat
But you have all the newest practices and enthusiasm! Good ideas should be shared by anyone who has one! This chat is very helpful and uplifting, so the more the merrier. And brighter! #4thchat
GUILTY too!!!! haha This cracks me up....because I get so distracted from the list that the original items stay uncrossed while I add others already completed. #4thchat
Q9: Right now I would probably say planning lessons, since I don't have any experience, but once I become saturated in the classroom I would rather collaborate with other educators. You can learn SO much from others! #4thchat

A9: I will always choose collaborating because I love connecting and building on an idea until it becomes something special. Twitter is a perfect place to do that! #4thchat
Excellent! Love that your sharing what's happening in the classroom with the local paper! Great way to get the word out there about Computational Thinking. #4thchat
