I always like to start out with some type of Tidbit. Here is tonight's abt Summer
-
-
-
-
-
Q1: What are some of you biggest hopes/goals/priorities for your students/children during the summer?
-
Two months to regain learning after a new school year begins. That speaks volumes...
-
Oh, very nice! I'm not familiar w/Ontario education system...just visiting crazy Greek family on holiday
-
-
A1: That they enjoy the summer, play outside and think little about school. This is what I hope of teachers too :)
-
-
-
Unbelievable. And for kids who have special learning needs, that gap is likely wider/longer.
-
Crazy huh?!?! (Welcome, Kristen!)
-
But I haven't turned off my school brain into summer mode yet :)
-
-
-
Bonjour ! I'll be popping in and out tonight. Sorry.
-
I hope students get the opportunity to experience some awesomeness of nature
-
A1My biggest hope is that our students stay safe, joyful & engaged this summer. Just like I hope they r everyday at school
-
Hello ! First time here! Ready to learn!
-
BONJOUR!!! I am almost fluent!!! ;)
-
✋🏾 It has been a while... Sherry from Greensboro, NC!
-
Great to have you here, Aija!!
-
A1: For my "kids" who are transitioning to college and have special needs, I want them to relax, plan, and prepare.
-
A1) That they feed their curiosity and interest, learn something new/keep on learning, take some risks, try something new
-
A1 That the summer provides active & fun learning opportunities for them. Here's a link re summer ed
https://t.co/QJE9x2jdbB

-
Thanks- Elem prin from PA
-
A1 I want my students to have time to explore their interests, play, spend time with their families, read, relax, sleep...
-
YAY!!! Love Newbies!!! So happy you are here, Sarah!
-
A1 Hoping to work with Kid Q on math skills. Gonna do some physical therapy with Kid O. Gentle stretching.
-
-
A1: I hope that my kids remember to be kids. That they can be free and soak up all that life offers them. Be inquisitive..
-
A1 I hope my students have a safe and fun summer. Unwind before getting ready for another school year
-
A1: explore stuff, do stuff, laugh be foolish
-
THANKS for the resources!! Always welcome!
-
-
A1 As for my son, I'm thoroughly enjoying spending June w/him as he prepares to move to NYC and start his job.
-
Oh no, Kirk. &here I just wrote the opposite. Sort of: active learning that is wonderfully fun &restorative.
-
A1: I want every child to read daily over the summer ! https://t.co/ExemoHHGOv
-
-
Q1: What are some of you biggest hopes/goals/priorities for your students/children during the summer?
-
Love the "gentle" aspect of stretching.
-
-
Wonder to wonder is what it's all about--as a kid and as an adult--but sometimes we forget.
-
new to hope I am answering correctly
-
YES!!! ...and welcome (I am originally from NY)
-
The restorative benefits of the natural world--that every person needs. Thank you for pointing us to this.
-
Hey Brian!! Good to see you here on !!!
-
Gonna try and work on her feet.
-
I think it would be easier for some Ss to take risks w/o classmates around, especially for G&T students
-
There are no wrong answers here on We are a welcoming-and resilient- crowd!!!
-
I wrote this "summer blog" this morning and got some nice feedback. Y'all on might enjoy it too. https://t.co/EbRDlaK17M
-
from Long Island teach in the city
-
-
-
I look forward to reading it!!
-
A1) I wanted my Ss to keep writing in summer so I would send them each a letter in summer to surprise them & most wrote back
-
Q2 coming up...the anticipation is mounting...
-
Q2: What concerns do you have about summer break?
-
A1 Now that Kid Q is entering high school and no school uniform, she is going to need real clothes. Is shopping a goal?
-
-
A1: I hope every student gets a chance "To find the world is mud-lucious & puddle wonderful"... https://t.co/1Rcr1lde5L
-
It ALWAYS is in my book! ;)
-
-
Then my goal is to buy her some clothes. She needs a real wardrobe for high school.
-
I absolutely LOVE this idea!!! Thanks for sharing it and for being here tonight on !
-
A2: regression working with students that fall out of a routine and comeback to school and need a month or two refresher
-
A1: I want my students to have fun!!! Summer is so stressful for so many of them.
-
Yeah. This is always a toughie--and unfortunately all too often much of a reality.
-
A2 That we have summer break. Challenge to figure out how to spend the time. And so hot.
-
A2: student and teacher learning regression
-
A2: My only concerns are getting done all the stuff I say I'm going to do when break comes...then don't finish any of it! Ha
-
YES!! Fun is what summer is all about!
-
My biggest concern is trauma. S's I teach are often faced with challenging circumstances in their neighborhoods
-
-
-
A2: Ditto, esp. for those with special learning needs incl. social skills, behavior, etc.
-
A2: the situations where school is the best thing, best place for certain kids
-
-
This is a big concern for many. Good thing to recognize among our Ss so that we can address it appropriately
-
Agreed, and for their parents, many of whom lack flexible work hours, affordable childcare, etc.
-
A2 I really have very few concerns for my students and my son.
-
A2) Enjoy personalized learning, what they want to learn about, meaningful to them, sad when they don't have opport to do so
-
A2: Brain drain, the loss of owing to learn, the death to exploration. 😢 https://t.co/m7kbibyW3R
-
-
Q2: What concerns do you have about summer break?
-
Yes, for many the 7 hrs at school are the safest, warmest, and best hours of their day.
-
So sad to hear this Aija. They are fortunate, however, to have you when they return.
-
You are blessed! ...and they must be too.
-
We have a year round school where Ss get Dec, April & Aug off Less opportunity to lose skills
-
A2 I have many concerns for kids who're going hungry & have other needs going unmet. I know people are stepping up for them.
-
A2 Wish every student had a wonderful summer experience: safe, loved, w great experiences.
Far too many spend it all inside.
-
That's terrific. I support year-round school with shorter breaks throughout the year.
-
I have found year round schools to be able to address summer slide
-
Here comes Q3... But always feel free to answer any from
-
Absolutely. Never understood 3 months off. Makes no sense re: learning.
-
Q3: What activities are good for summer fun and learning?
-
Parents are very supportive of shorter breaks & Ss & Ts seem more refreshed
-
Students do not get burnt out?
-
-
And this may work better too for working parents re: schedules.
-
. Not that we've seen. 12 weeks on and 4 weeks off. Seems to work...
-
A2: I worry that kids aren't in a safe environment with food and adult supervision during the summer.
-
YES! (as long as siblings are on the same schedule)
-
Todd from NY via Denver tonight! HS Assistant principal. Good evening!
-
I think technology can be a great way to keep kids engaged and learning through the summer.
-
Yes, this worries me too.
-
Whoa!! A multi city tasked!! Love it and welcome, Todd!!
-
A3 Varies by person. Reading, athletics, random play (in- and out-side), indoor games, going to movies/plays/concerts, etc.
-
Hi Dana! Yes, look how it is connecting us tonight on !!!!
-
A3: nature hike, museum visits, road trips to historical places.😊
-
Hey , I see the search feed is still glitchy. It gives me four tweets w/i Twitter web client. Leslie in Ontario, Canada!
-
A3 Great question! Far too many children spend the summer in front of a screen: movies, videos, gaming. Passive or iterative
-
A3: Our district provides summer access to Amazon's TenMarks for review or enrichment. Khan Academy is also good.
-
A3: Going w/ their interests & passions. Beach. Camp. Nature. Arts. But R&R for sure.
-
Getting S's in group activities with diverse groups of children.
-
Hi Leslie!! Back from Mexico?
-
A3: Bookclub w/ a relative far away. Skype, FaceTime or email @ what you ❤️'d about the book https://t.co/0MUUbYBqxk
-
-
Q3: What activities are good for summer fun and learning?
-
A3) Any outdoor activity, let inspiration come from nature, summer is perfect time to be ores & get creative/innovative
-
-
A3) Any outdoor activity, let inspiration come from nature, summer is perfect time to be bored & get creative/innovative
-
A3 Never been good at summer fun and activities since it's such a miserable time for me.
-
Agreed. Diverse groups. New cultures. Helps to combat what's going on in this world. We need acceptance.
-
A2: Absolutely no concerns; it's the only time we (Ss, Ts) get to do what we feel like more often. Personalized learning!
-
Yes, as long as it's not the only activity. We're all still figuring out this new evolving tech culture.
-
A3: Nothing better than a road trip to high interest places
-
So sorry to here that. :(
-
A3 Special yoga at least happens over the summer. Not sure yet what else. Just started.
-
-
A1: That they have fun and learn about the world. I know my own kids are doing so!
-
-
Trying to maintain my perspective. Two years ago I spent my summer undergoing chemo.
-
And I understand for people who don't love summer, it's especially tough because of cultural expectations.
-
A3: Walking, hiking, road tripping, family visits, reading, zoo/museum visits, chatting, reading, playing, dreaming...
-
Summer time is also good@to engage in life skills (cooking, banking, sewing)
-
A3 Keeping journals, informational trips (would be amazed how many Ss have not been to parts of their city, library programs
-
I understand. I hope this summer is a great experience for you!!!!!!
-
Kids should be able to do what they love in the summer and also try new things. Kids should be creative in the summer!
-
I know!! It doesn't take much to "get away"
-
One summer I was in Alaska in August. Just send me back there for summer.
-
-
Yes, back and taking a break in my hometown!
-
Something that most educators miss! Thanks for pointing it out-- educate in every way, right! https://t.co/duhtLqswtE
-
-
Summer time is also good@to engage in life skills (cooking, banking, sewing)
-
Let's focus a bit on ourselves, shall we?
-
Q4: What are some of your biggest hopes/goals/priorities for YOU during this summer?
-
Been already very hot. Like we went from 60s and 70s straight to low 90s.
-
we were close in the 100's today!
-
I so want to like this multiple times. There are so many important skills for students: K12&college
https://t.co/eep6PNTb8w

-
-
Q4: What are some of your biggest hopes/goals/priorities for YOU during this summer?
-
A4) recharge, hang with family, brainstorm new ideas, stay connected to keep learning, build more networks for Ss learning
-
-
So far so good.I see the oncologist in couple of weeks. No relaxation 4 me tho.Not w taking care of Kid O.
-
I've learned to love summers in southside Virginia. Warm you bone-deep, night insect songs...
-
Well said and something for all of us to remember!
-
Q4: hope to read all the books on my desk, dream of traveling to places I haven't been (2 down lately), see good friends too
-
A4) I hope I get a chance to enjoy summer & rest, lots of traveling, visiting family, conferences, camps ...oh my!
-
-
I don't even want to hear about it. We'll probably have at least one of those days, too.
-
A4 I really want to enjoy being a mom watching my baby explore her world
-
Q4 New math curriculum starting in the fall. My goal is to not be clueless on day 1. Should I be hoping for more?
-
A4: Some "new" -- perspectives, opportunities, doors. And some balance.
-
-
Yes, so much to do...the "rest" part is as impt. as any part of the plan!
-
-
A4 Family time. Reading. Running. Music. Writing. Maybe daring to start to seek feedback on a book draft I've completed.
-
A4: I need to find myself. I think I am still a little bit lost. I also need to brush up on the IC model for my new role.
-
-
There's some nice things. My garden helps me get through the summer. All the colors.
-
A4: Finishing my master's degree Friday! Then relaxing, reading and having fun!
-
-
The best. Nothing better. Remember those days well and with tender memories...
-
A wonderful goal. They grow so fast. Enjoy it!
-
Good plan!! It is the best plan!
-
-
Sounds like a good basic goal to me. Once that's met, you can think about others! :-)
-
You mean the taking care of Kid O part? Well that is year long but intensified in summer.
-
A4: Another goal is to explore/embrace change. Education changes often--
-
Congratulations Kim. Quite an achievement.
-
-
-
Nothing like a garden to brighten any day and any heart!
-
Mmmm. Nice. Maybe next you can share pictures?! :-)
-
-
-
I also want to write. Write whatever comes to me when I have time to.
-
it was great joining need to sleep. Last day is tomorrow in NY! I gave some of you a follow great connecting
-
Personally I would like to visit a beach..sip some sweet tea....and read a book for pleasure.
-
Awesome! How cool that will be.

-
What a great treat it was having you here! Pls come back to any Monday 7-8pmPST
-
You are an inspiration! I need to get on this too!!
-
A4: my biggest hope this summer is to rest for July to ramp up for the busiest fall I will have ever experienced.
-
A4. Not being clueless is definitley good. Being their for implementation is a great start too. Expectations get in the way
-
WOW!! What makes this fall so different from others?
-
Oh my goodness yes. As my son graduates from college/starts work, I'm remembering those days fondly. So wonderful.
-
A4: How about just being easy. Everything doesn't have to be hard but remembering that "We can do hard things" /2full
-
-
A4: read fiction without feeling guilty
-
-
-
I will have a great night and enjoy your summers
