A2 Leadership is getting in the game and working alongside people to achieve the goal/mission. It is getting in the grind w/the people on the frontlines of the work. I have had many great leaders who've gone the extra mile while bringing/building up others with them. #edumatch

Also love that the tweet and talk panel is bringing up something super important which isL leadership ISN'T about titles. Nope! It's about people who lead with grace, compassion, ethics, and purpose in all they do no matter the role in schools especially. #edumatch
  • JCampbellKSU Oct 21 @ 6:22 PM EDT
A2 Leadership, to me is making decisions and following through in carrying them out, and not following others blindly. Growing up, a lot of the people in my life who were leaders were women, so I often associate leadership roles with women #EduMatch

A3 Mean girls is such an unfortunate reality & not just in schools & same for "boys will be boys" mentality. Shift the conversation & get to the root. Model what helps while also confronting the issues we're facing. We need to get comfortable w/discomfort of conflict #edumatch
  • edu_match - Moderator Oct 21 @ 6:26 PM EDT
A5. What resources do you suggest for anyone looking to learn more about gender representation in leadership? #edumatch
  • MarviaDavidson Oct 21 @ 6:27 PM EDT
We can't ignore the issue because that doesn't help. We have to be willing to have tough conversations. Be the model. Speak life. Walk with them through it & help them see the impact of their actions. Leaders should be more fluid in ability to hold conflict with grace #edumatch
  • MarviaDavidson Oct 21 @ 6:29 PM EDT
Collaborate w/other educators especially those who have experience & training in having the tough conversations dealing w/social & emotional learning. It's unfortunate that we often don't know how to BE for one another or know how to raise others up in leadership. #edumatch

Show them what's possible. Respond in the opposite (positive) spirit. Don't be afraid to confront issues that must be addressed if we want our Ss & Ts to navigate the cultural, political, and other storms they'll face. #edumatch
  • MarviaDavidson Oct 21 @ 6:37 PM EDT
A4 Instill belief + Words followed by actions the prove what we believe about Ss is one way we can empower them. Put your action where your belief is and give Ss a chance to prove themselves. Be gracious cause it can be messy. Make it about progress & failing forward. #edumatch

Q4. How can we empower our students to view themselves, regardless of gender, as capable and worthy of whatever they set out to do? #edumatch
  • MarviaDavidson Oct 21 @ 6:39 PM EDT
Every one of our Ss need to know that they can have access to opportunity, freedom, and self respect (mantra of the @WhyTry program). We must help them see a better way forward and support them by modeling social/emotional learning skills which are critical skills. #edumatch

  • MarviaDavidson Oct 21 @ 6:40 PM EDT
Also, learn to listen better. Listen and learn so we can really hear what it is they want to do with their lives and help them discover, navigate, and create a way toward it no matter what life throws at them. Believe them too! #resilience #edumatch
  • MarviaDavidson Oct 21 @ 6:41 PM EDT
Indeed. They need to know that real life is about relating to people, connecting, to people, resolving conflict, and find a way forward. #edumatch

Loved this from @educatoralex that #leaders should expect their people to leave because they're growing into who their meant to be. She said it better, BUT, YeS!! Good leaders grow their people & know how to release them so they can come into their own. #edumatch
