I am in the process of Moving to Texas to coach Texas High School football this next season. Really trying to building up my network and contacts in the Lone Star. Texas coaches please give me a follow and DM me #Hogfbchat
A1 really paid attention to the stuff @slade248 was putting together since he was a big 2TE guy also loved bouncing ideas off of @harper_coach#hogfbchat
A1. I always pay attention to what Gus Malzahn is doing. Loved his play calling in their bowl game. Payed a lot of attention 21 pers gap scheme play action and RPO plays since that is will fit my personnel and n 2019. #hogfbchat
A1: the answer is always Gus Malzahn. We run single wing so I watch a lot of the service academies and see the different things they do up front. #HogFbChat
A1: I really like what Jeff Monken has been building at Army. I also like researching other high school programs that run a similar offense as us, like Pleasant Grove and Liberty Hill in Texas #hogfbchat
A1: Lincoln Riley at OU. Love his Trey/Counter stuff and all of the options off of it! #hogfbchat
Also Andy Reid/Matt Nagy in NFL. Stretching defenses vertically and horizontally & watching them squirm has me like
A1: We added some elementsof the read game so we went to two of the best in the state of Michigan to do it Muskegon High School and Ferris St University #hogfbchat
One of our local Defensive Coordinators Jimmy Tyson of Lincoln has some nasty pressures and run blitzes I watched a lot of that this year. Gotta know the other side to get better in my book.
#hogfbchat
A1: Wing T. Our conference is mostly spread but we get hit with a team that likes to pound clock and control the ball once a year. It can be a tough adjustment for the kids at times #hogfbchat
A1) Offensively spent more time studying wide zone, Bash variations& changeuls to traditional Air Raid concepts; looked at Leach, Kingsbury, Lincoln Riley, and others. Defensively wanted to learn more about Saban/Smart defense and odd man fronts in general. #hogfbchat
A1: I would also really like o study Army’s defensive Scheme. If anyone has film and learning materials about that defense, please let me know #hogfbchat
A1) Really like Noel Mazzone and his multiple designs. Like Quick game to one side and screen to the other. Other than this, just studied up how on how to control various tempos. We must dictate offensively. #hogfbchat
A1: A lot of teams are now. moving to triple out of gun, which we base out of. Executionally and fundamentally our OL will most likely study Army throughout the offseason #HogFbChat
A2: honestly the guys on this chat. Taking in knowledge every Monday. Listening to @RunThePower and the awesome guests. The guys from COOL this year. #TooManyToName#hogfbchat
A2. @TylerBrock72 my Juco line coach was teaching the angle A pass set in 2014 helped develop me from a 0 offer high school lineman to a D1 center #hogfbchat
A2. Most of my coaching buddies are OL coaches. My dad is an old OL coach. When I got hired to coach OL a couple of years ago I knew NOTHING about OL play. I met with as many people as I could and got it figured out. This chat helped a lot too. #Hogfbchat
A2: My HC in HS who is the HC of the staff I’m on currently. College coach Bob Colbert. Now a days I’m heavily influenced by any and everything Duke Manyweather does. He’s the best in the business. #HogFbChat
A2: My mentor. My biggest critic. My favorite coach. And most importantly he’s my uncle. The best offensive line coach in the nation. @MinOfOffense#hogfbchat
A2. Personally my biggest influences were my high school OL coach Kevin Engle, and my favorite minor-pro OL Coach George Fuller. Professionally it has to be @LeCharlesBent65. Built to Dominate Seminar in Cleveland was life changing. #HogFbChat
My coaching mentor and The Godfather to my son, Coach Don Dias at @ Half Moon Bay High School in Northern California. Love that man to death. #hogfbchat
A2: My dad. He lined up against me when I was about 12 years old to show me that it doesn't matter the size of the guy across from you. Fire off the ball, stay low and run your feet. And dont stop fighting! #hogfbchat
I don’t think I can truly claim one person as being most influential. I’m looking for the most simple and consistent teaching possible. I believe this is only found by searching different coaches and different levels. #hogfbchat
#hogfbchat A2: currently the entire team at @OLPerformance . I truly believe what they are teaching is the future of OL play. Also @Warhogs56@ChrisWard6275 have taught me a TON this last year.
In reply to
@CoachShiffman, @OLPerformance, @Warhogs56, @ChrisWard6275
A2: I was on the other side of the ball, but @WLC_OLcoach always had phenomenal relationships with the fat guy pushers when I was there. They were absolute dawgs during practice and games. Really took pride in keeping our QB clean. Always impressed by him #HOGFBCHAT
Got coached as a 9th grader by @CoachKehoe at @DownAndDLineman camp. His passion for great pass posture and playing with violence mad me love the job of a Lineman.
#Hogfbchat
In reply to
@CoachShiffman, @CoachKehoe, @DownAndDLineman
A2: my college coach was a huge influence on the way I do things. Also, @PatNorem the coach I worked under for 12 years made a huge impact on how I coach today. #hogfbchat
A2 - My HS defensive line coach. Stressed to me to understand the offensive line to become a better defensive lineman. And just like that I learned to love OL! #HOGFBCHAT
A2) Very grateful for all the excellent material the guys at @OLPerformance have put out. Kelvin McDavis here at Northside is one of the best in the business. Also see attached tweet for great twitter follows. #hogfbchathttps://t.co/7lsuaPYsYe
A2.) non OLine here but my Head Coach and my DBs coach. Both taught me more life lessons than I can think of. Both helped me tremendously with anything I needed even after I finished playing #hogfbchat
A2 my high school OL coach is a big influence in my coaching style. I also enjoy what Coach Jim Turner does at A&M and what Coach Herb Hand does at that other school #HOGFBCHAT
A2: My HC, Ken LaVigne, he was a great motivator and genuinely loved his players - he is everything I aspire to be. He just wrote a book and it's more insightful than any playbook has to offer (to me, anyway) #hogfbchat
Q2) 2 coaches. 1on the defensive line who I watched play and coach, and the other I got to see grow from a GA to a full timer. I won’t tag names cause they’re still friends of mine, but I’ve stolen both of their styles and meshed it into my own. Both of em hardly yell. #HogFbChat
A2: Going to be a strange answer but working alongside a guy that refused to learn and evolve was my biggest influence. It made me realize you never stop learning and never think you know it all. Really motivated me to go outside and learn from as many as possible #hogfbchat
A2 cont’d) But perhaps my biggest OL influence in terms of scheme and technique the last couple years has to be Alex Gibbs. His attention to detail and meticulousness teaching wide zone is unparalleled from almost any other coach I’ve seen teaching a specific topic #hogfbchat
A2. Learned about the OL when I was just a skinny WR coach watching and listening to coach Czytuck and also had the fortune to be around Joe Moore for three years. Kept my mouth shut and just listened to him base everything we do off of what he was coaching #hogfbchat
A1: Watched a good bit of Paul Johnson and Jeff Monken tape after our season. We don’t run the option, but there’s a lot of good OL stuff in those systems regardless. #hogfbchat
Probably two: Eric Driskell from Blue Valley Hs in Kansas (RIP) and John Strollo. Driskells stuff was the foundation of our zone scheme, Strollo changed how I thought about movement and blocking #Hogfbchat
A3 - My HS HC Dennis Hale. Minnesota Hall of Fame Coach and taught me the love of the game and how to do it right. How to go all in on something or don’t do it at all. #HOGFBCHAT
Q2: Who was your biggest influence as an offensive line coach? A1: my high school OL coach, and have enjoyed studying @mbloom11 and @CoachRhuleBU#hogfbchat
Q2: Who was your biggest influence as an offensive line coach? A1: my high school OL coach, and have enjoyed studying @mbloom11 and @CoachMattRhule#hogfbchat
First clinic I ever attended was Art Kehoe. I sat on the front row, and got hands put on me and I absorbed a lot of spit balls from his passionate speech. I also learned a lot of new ways to curse!!! #hogfbchat
A3: Tony Dungy, Robinson, Louie Smith, Gus Malzahn, Herb Hand just off the top of my head. I could come up with a ton more is I really put some time in. #hogfbchat
A3: a lot of the guys mentioned, also as an Iowa guy, I love what Kirk Ferentz does for Iowa. Hangs his hat on good oline play, runs a program based on what he believes. #hogfbchat
A4: As a young coach I’m really trying to build my network and get my name out there. I also would like to develop a deeper thinking about the game #hogfbchat
A2: without a doubt, my dad. Benched me after I didn't destroy a CB on toss. Taught me how to ALWAYS finish your block no matter how big/small the opponent. 2nd is my HS OC Ray peralez. Still call both of them regularly regarding football matters #hogfbchat
I think it is kind of interesting that a lot of the answers to questions 3 are regional!
#hogfbchat
I don't know peoples ages but I bet that changes stuff too!
I forgot Paul Brown! Changed the game of football, way ahead of his time!

A4. Continuing to learn, networking, and spending time with my staff in our second year together doing what we love and getting better to make our kids better. #HogFbChat
A4) Meeting coaches and just getting a chance to talk ball in person. Looking to learn a little more defense and passing game X&Os. I’ll be at both Glazier clinics in Atlanta, Alabama Spread Clinic, North GA OL clinic, as well as both UGA and Clemson coaches clinics. #hogfbchat
A4 getting to meet coaches from all over the state and country. Expanding my collection of drills by listening to new speakers, and tuning up the drills I use. Can’t wait til the Lone Star Clinic and the @THSCAcoaches Clinic! #HOGFBCHAT
A4: honestly just trying to constantly improve myself. If there is even just one teaching que or drill I pick up at clinics that help us, it was worth it #hogfbchat
Big time plug for these guys! If you’re not following @RunThePower with @CoachBradyWalz and @harper_coach you’re behind! Get following these dudes ASAP! Great coaches, great men and great content! #hogfbchat
A4: self plug but can’t wait to hear from the 14 coaches we have on our Free RTP virtual summit in February!! Gonna be so much fun and Im gonna learn a ton!! #HogFbChat
A2: way too many to list but Aaron Best at Eastern Washington and Mike Bloomgren at Rice (was at Stanford) helped me with scheme and technique issues that I had struggled with finding good solutions for.
#hogfbchat
A4: Getting work in. There’s a time and place to hang out during these, but as a young coach, I need to see as many speakers as possible. Make the most of the opportunities to help our kids #HOGFBCHAT
Q4: What are you most looking forward too during Clinic Season? A4: growing especially in my pass game knowledge, networking, bonding with staff, and just get better for my athletes!! #hogfbchat#alwayslearning
A4: Glazier clinics is putting on a special chalk talk clinic in Des Moines in March I will be attending. Sifting through online webinars, and making a couple visits to a few different colleges to meet with coaches #hogfbchat
And that is a wrap for the #hogfbchat at the @WeAreAFCA in San Antonio! Huge thanks to everybody who participated tonight and was able to drop in with great conversation and information!
A3: Andy Reid, Nick saban, buddy Ryan (I remember him being a bad ass), John Levings HS OL coach (RIP) a lot of guys taught me how to help players become better players, he's the one who showed me how to help them become better men. #hogfbchat
A4: Meeting up with other coaches, meeting new people, and learning. Specifically, I’m looking forward to learning more about passing game and quarters coverage. #HogFbChat
A4: hitting up a new, local clinic this month and it has some solid HS speakers that are coaching in my area. Looking forward to learning from those around me.
Ditching big clinics this year because of the new lads even though I wanted to hit Nike COY in PDX for Shaw
#hogfbchat

I’ve been your cohost Tony Shiffman, thank you all for participating tonight for a special edition live at @WeAreAFCA after a 2 week layoff! See you all next Monday at 8pm CST for the next installment of the #Hogfbchat#AFCA2019
A2: Any coach that is willing to take time out of their schedule to share their knowledge is an influence to me. Love that so many OL coaches are willing to share their knowledge. Just got an @OLPerformance membership. Love what those guys are doing too. #hogfbchat
#HOGFBCHAT guys wanted y’all to know I’m gonna go back and read what y’all all talk about tonight, but as a lifelong Clemson Tiger fan, I’m preoccupied. Go Tigers and the 🐐 OL Coach @OLCoachCaldwell#ClemsonvsAlabama
As I said before, I am making the move to the Lone Star state in the summer and I’m really trying to connect and meet with as many people as I can. I’m a young motivated coach who has a desire to be a Head Coach someday. Any advice would be greatly appreciated #HogFbChat
Iowa School: Bladt, Winkler, Hinkel, Schelling
College: Bear Bryant, Tom Osborne, Bobby Bowden, Ed Robinson
NFL: Bill Belichick, Bill Parcells, Marv Levy(Lovie Smith, Tony Dungy, D. Green)
#hogfbchat
@jdhorton99 I can't agree more with you brother. "It's not what you know; It's what you learn when you stop thinking you know it all". Those type of coaches help to motivate me every year. #hogfbchat
I learned so much from Hugh Wyatt, Brad Knight, @DWCoachK, and Gabe. These men taught me so much about coaching the little things on the OL. I later coached with Gaylord Schelling of Atlantic, Iowa. Wow, he was very detailed in his approach. #hogfbchat
A4: I'm looking forward to meeting new coaches with different ideas. I'll travel to 2 or 3 clinics and will make a visit to Iowa and Iowa State. I started a Football Bucket List that I'm forward to doing. I'm sure I'll contact a few coaches to visit with. #hogfbchat
