#6thchat: Tonight is my 6th grade recognition night. Our wonderful colleague @PrincipalSmart has agreed to substitute for me for tonight's chat. Thank you Michelle for helping me out! I hope to be back/get back to jump in as I love tonight's topic! Meanwhile, have a great chat!
#6thchat With fellow colleague @dmaj627 and #6thchat participant Deb Major at our 6th grade recognition! Please chat well and we still hope to make it tonight to join you. I know you are in great hands with @PrincipalSmart !
#6thchat#sdedchatHi everyone! I am Kristen, and I am from Pennsylvania. I teach sixth grade physical science and I am in full Lego Star Wars party mode! But I couldn’t miss these chats!
A1 I just finished my 6th book of the summer and haven't picked a new one yet! However tonight I am reading my online material for my research foundations class. Also reading Literacy Coaching by @AffinitoLit#6thchat
A2) I read so much for my professional life that I often neglect my own personal needs and wants as a reader. I love reading professional books, but I struggle finding a balance; I love reading books to recommend to Ss too. I love historical fiction. #6thchat
A2: I try to read as often as I can, mostly weekends. I really enjoy fantasy or sci-fi as a 1st choice and there are a lot of realistic dramas I have enjoyed though. Most of these are YA or middle grade #6thchat
A2 I am a “steal every moment” kind of reader. I read every single moment I can and feel guilty when I don’t (like now) My blog and Insta name is Mrs. Bookdragon. I devour books and hoard them as well. 😂 I read all kinds of books, science fiction fantasy is my go-to. #6thchat
A2 The past two years I have read 50 books during the school year. This year I was just above the single digits! Starting on my master's put a huge burden on my reading life. #6thchat
A1: literally in the middle of #LCInnovation! And I just don’t make the time to read. I get hooked on Twitter chats and can’t get away. And I’d say I have more time in the summer, but I have a 4,6, and a 2 year old. #6thchat
A2 I like all kinds of genres but like fantasy the least - too much world building boggles my mind! However I did read Red Queen last week and enjoyed that. #6thchat
A2: I read children’s books and articles. I did read Wonder this year though. I try not to use time as an excuse. It’s not that I don’t have the time. I don’t make it a priority with the time I have. But I need to. Joined a book club to hopefully hold me accountable! #6thchat
A3: I want to make sure that I am reading more during the week (more like every day). I would also like to get into more humorous books, I feel like a lot of the ones I read are depressing or not very funny.
#6thchat
A3) Yes, I want to dedicate more time to my own personal reading life. I'm fairly eclectic in my reading interests as far as genres go, but I find I just don't give my "self" enough time to really enjoy my own interests. Always feel rushed to squeeze in a book #6thchat
A3 I need to do better about writing about my reading. I share my reading life with my students and on a morning show for the school. When I don't write about the reading, the book talks are not as good. #6thchat
A3 I really like to stick to certain genres and don't like to branch out unless one of my students really wants me to read something. I never get enough time to read even though I try to fit it into every little spot. #6thchat
A3 I would like to blog more about my books. I have a blog I set up for #mglit and want my students to be able to find book reviews from me. I need to add more to it. #6thchat
A4) From striving to thriving : how to grow confident, capable readers / by Stephanie Harvey and Annie Ward; Read, talk, write : 35 lessons that teach students to analyze fiction and nonfiction / Laura Robb; Amal Unbound; Refugee #6thchat
I also have too many to list but I just finished ARC of @Dusti_Bowling’s 24 Hours in Nowhere. I will be reading @KateMessner Breakout next. Trying to read all the books on the Texas Lone Star List which is our states middles school book list. #6thchat
A5) I tend to talk about books with others, and sometimes I write about them in a journal, but not very often. I do highlight and take lots of notes or sketchnote about books. My interactions are more personal than collaborative or in the spirit of sharing. #6thchat
A4: I don't think I'll pick up a book this summer, but my next one might be one of the Inquiry books by @trev_mackenzie. 3 wk summer fills up quick. #6thchat
A5 I am often inspired to write on my blog about the things I am reading about and how they relate to my school like. I would love to discuss more. #6thchat
I love how writing after reading captures the essence of the book on so many levels within reflection. Thinking and working it out on paper brings new depth to the value of the story. #6thchat
A3 I need to do better about writing about my reading. I share my reading life with my students and on a morning show for the school. When I don't write about the reading, the book talks are not as good. #6thchat
A2: I read mostly MG and some YA Lit. I try to read every day.y goal is to read 100 books this year. I have read 34 so far. I’m hoping to read a lot this summer! #6thchat
A5: I think my highest level of engagement is informational. My Ss watch me read on technology then implement, read several recipes then integrate & simplify. #6thchat
A5: When I read a page that is meaningful to me, I will snap a pic of it to save. I will sometimes make a book snap@of it. I would like to journal more. #6thchat
A6) I guess I am looking for more advice than I have to give. I strive for balance but I am definitely professional reading heavy over personal interest reading. #6thchat
A6: Follow people on Twitter who read and post about reading all the time and utilize Goodreads or another reading source. I get most of my book ideas from Twitter
#6thchat
A6: Don't settle for I don't read or I'll watch the movie. I thought I only liked books by athletes. It turns out I like all biographies. Find your genre. #6thchat
A6: I follow educators who read MG books or review MG books which gets me excited about reading books. I realize I do a better job getting Ss excited about reading when I’ve read the books and can talk about them from a personal experience. So that drives me to read. #6thchat
A2: I LOVE reading and I'm either devouring stacks of books or going through long droughts. I love YA, sci-fi, fantasy, mystery, and probably 12 more genres! #6thchat
#6thchat
A3: I would like to carve out more time to read consistently. I find it too easy to fall into a Netflix binge! I also want to make sure to keep reading and sharing diverse reads! #6thchat
Well, I just got home, so now I'm reading all these goodies from all of you! Looks like another great #6thchat! Thanks again @PrincipalSmart for helping me tonight! :)
A4: Soooooo many books! A lot of LGBTQ+ YA books since I'm presenting about them at #AMLE2018 in the fall and I want to read the newest releases! #6thchat
A8) My reading goal is to complete 40 books in 80 days. This means being more intentional about my reading plans; Like baseball...I need an "on deck" pile ready to go. #6thchat
A5: I occasionally write reviews or talk about books with friends, but mostly I read just to enjoy reading. I want to do more of that with my students next year. I do track what I've read though. #6thchat
Now that @mrskochheiser is back I am going to step out. My daughter showed up and made us supper. She is a great cook! I don't want to miss out. Have a great week everyone! #6thchat
Gosh, thank you all for having such a great #6thchat without me! Thanks for subbing and moderating tonight for me @PrincipalSmart Have a wonderful week!
A6: Use social media to find book recommendations. Twitter and Instagram are great for this! Ask your friends, your students, your fave bookstore clerks! #6thchat
