To me, Differentiation means that each child is given the opp. to learn & show their learning in ways that best suit them. There are lots of ways to differentiate & when it is done well, it is seamless and not obvious to onlookers... except when you look at the results. #bfc530

Good morning team! I’m struggling this year with a county textbook implementation, so our reading time and individual conferencing has become more important as I find my feet & try to give my kids the best me I can. Getting to know them to offer better choice and support #bfc530
Differentiation has to do with equity, fairness, and providing students with the best/most effective support possible based on their learning needs...responsive pedagogy! #bfc530

I agree...often people do not see the differentiation that is happening. For me, a lot is in my head..I expect this for this child, I will do this for that child etc. #bfc530
I was able to meet up with my first mentor and his family this weekend. We live in different states so we rarely see each other. It was a wonderful time. #bfc530
This usually involves differentiating the content. Often teachers differentiate the process or product for “show”. However, differentiating the content is so much more effective in terms of student achievement. #bfc530 Good Thursday Morning Y’all ☀️
I picture differentiation as moving our group towards the same location but we are getting there using different routes or forms of transportation and we may do different things once we are there. #bfc530
Differentiation can be the basis for respect and equitable treatment. When differentiation becomes the basis for disrespect and inequitable treatment, the low road is taken. Stay on the high road to equitable treatment and respect. #BFC530
I think true differentiation in an elementary classroom takes practice and time. You also have to know the curriculum. I work on this all the time and this will be year #31 for me. #bfc530
Mentoring...One of the best forms of professional learning, BriAnne...especially when/if you can work alongside a mentor...co-teach, co-lead, etc. #bfc530
#bfc530 When I go the gym, some peope are running for an hour, some people are walking for 15 minutes, and some people are lifting weights. Oversimplified, perhaps, but each of them is using what they can already do to get better. To me, that is #differentiation.
Differentiation can also happen during conferencing. When meeting with a student we give them the specific mini-lesson they need to move forward in their learning. #bfc530
I want to say, “no,” but sometimes my goal needs to be changed and the bar hasn’t enough scaffold beneath it so it may appear that it is “yes,” when in fact I’m learning about my blind spots and assumptions and I need to change things. If that makes sense. #bfc530

Differentiation can be hard work but it offers opportunities for deeper, more meaningful and impactful learning...quite a bit different than more didactic instruction. #bfc530

Differentiation is tailoring the lesson to meet all of your learners (small groups for the win here) and then allowing choice so Ss can show their learning. Stepping back to let Ss lead, trusting them to do so #bfc530

Hmmm... differentiation in my classroom currently looks like ensuring the needs of each student are met. We have a daily goal, and it is my job to create an atmosphere so that everyone meets it. #bfc530
