As a teacher, the number one thing i don't have is time ~ Amen sister helps me save time!
is a tool, it's how you use it. Educators will be creative in how they adapt different tools. says at
is a tool, not the end all - be all
: "As a teacher, the one thing I don't have is time."
As long as Ss own the learning, they will work hard
It's easier to admit you don't know what you are doing online
Nothing at the end of the day is better than having a great teacher the classroom
for expression vs technology for - which is happening more ? cultural diff impact use, success
"We forget: technology is just a tool - it's all about how you use it" Amy
Testing brought tech into many classrooms and hopefully it stays all year and isn't locked in a cart
Technology is just a tool....can be used to connect disciplines, communities, learners. https://t.co/sxkoN9nQeX
Nothing at the end of the day is better than having a great teacher the classroom
It's everywhere! gives a SO to learning via
we have to build real competency skills in Ss to understand people, cultural, develop empathy
Until you build real global competence, you're not teaching kids to empathize or understand the world.
global competencies aren't taught throu a test-- need to focus on empathy, asking questions, & cultural context

love the thought of some Maasai showing up in Los Altos & ripping up pavement for cattle to help the "poor" w/o cattle

"Don't ask kids what they want to be when they grow up; ask them what problem they want to solve."
Ask Ss "what problem spins in your head?"--Kids learn differently than we did--they don't wait to be taught
Don't ask kids what they want to be when they grow up. Ask them what big problem they want to solve. -

Teachers study abroad at the second lowest level (only ag majors lower)
Maybe if we could get scholarships for traveling... :) I'd love to travel more! https://t.co/BYDFTu4Slw
Teachers study abroad at the second lowest level (only ag majors lower)
if we want young people to study abroad (in person or virtually), it needs to part of the structure of the school
If we want kids to have international experiences, it has to be built into the school design and valued deeply, says
If it's valued deeply, must be built into the culture from the ground up, not added as an afterthought.
global competency needs to be valued & built into the school structure-love that values this
Schools also need reliable access to power and internet.
: "20% of us take foreign language, 15% leave continent. So edtech becomes 1 way to increase global competence."
How do we build global into the classroom experience? ~
. speaks about the importance of an interdisciplinary focus when looking at global education
There needs to be a strategic plan that defines global competency in order to prioritize this for students
Two gaps: achievement gap and opportunity gaps need to come together according to
: Global Competency needs to enhance teachers' capacity to do what they have to do
"Global as a lens as opposed to an additional subject"
"Question I always ask principals: what does success for your kids look like?" - sounds like 's work!
Using global as a lens for teaching and learning & integrate global into all subjects is most successful --
"Global" has a lens rather than an extra subject; all teachers, of any subject, can teach content with a global lens.
Global learning is about blending-- love hearing talking about the lens
G-STEAM! Helping teachers integrate into our curric
Q:How can we shift 2 data that really measures skills we speakof &value in ed?
Use PBL to fuse core competences with global concepts; global ed. as a lens - should be integrated into the program
: How do we make global education not one more thing on the plate, but THE PLATE?
make global ed the plate--not something new I need to learn but if I am intentional, it is THE thing I am doing
Global is a lens, not a subject- David Young from . We love this paradigm because this is the world our Ss are in.
17 year old filmmaker travels world to find stories on what it means to be a global citizen https://t.co/ir0guoBX5s
: "I think being a principal is the hardest job in the whole ecosystem w/ all the demands on schools."
Intentionality is integral to all areas of says and
Global competency shouldn't be one more thing on the curricular plate... It should be the plate. -
Global is not just a fad. ~
"Like the Internet, Global isn't going to go away. The world our kids will live in will only get more global"
: "Everyone loves IB. But there are 140k schools in US, 858 are IB. We're talking about a 1% issue. What else can we do?"

: Technology affords us the opportunity to do things well, and then extend them to a global community.
Thomas Friedman: "...how we educate our children may prove to be more important than how much..."
says this is a survival issue. YES!
Global learning is not just a school issue. It's the core survival issue of our times.
global competency means global confidence-- you belong via
Global competence = global confidence
Yes! The global classroom should be the norm. Let's embrace it.
Global competence is Global Confidence

I sit in rural Iowa within 10 miles of 6 companies that hire locals to work for them internationally in manufacturing. Not imp?
"We need kids to use their inventive minds & global comp to solve big pressing problems of the day" tony Jackson
There is a need for supporting Ts and Admin in developing their own global competency before they can support Ss
. for society's survival we each need to develop dual- or multi-consciousness to be able understand each other.
"Global competence = global confidence: You feel you belong in these conversations & at the table" Tony Jackson
Policy and bureaucracy throughout the system perpetuates inequities for both students and teachers.

"It starts w/..large piece of butcher paper...a growth mindset" & a redefinition of our job as Ts~
Mill Valley educators at sharing how their schools integrate WorldSavvy themes across the curri ulum https://t.co/moCRnka74D
So impressed with the work/collaboration happening across all levels with and . Super inspiring.
"It takes a shift in how we see our job as educators:from content to start w/ what's important&link back to content"
It's okay to say 'I don't know how to use it, figure it out & LMK' Still need to help curate & guide.
Ss are shifting frm needing teachers for new info to looking for guidance how to filter and decipher the info they already have
What an incredible night of important conversations! Thank you for coordinating and inspiring!
Ss don't need Ts to give info. Siri does that. They need us to facilitate reflection and creation, says Mill Valley Teacher.
"How do I reflect on this info, how do I synthesize it,what do I do with this now.."What students need from teachers!
Kids see themselves as actors. They feel like they have a voice and want to take action to solve problems.
"Kids need to see themselves as actors. They're in school to take action, not just absorb what the teacher says"
S aha - "wait, is this about race?' from the mouths of babes
Kids now are purposeful actors-- can't keep them from bugging us with things they want to solve- Rod Septka
"When kids feel purposeful they take charge of learning - they ask for changes to schl b/c feel they have a voice"

Love hearing teachers stories from the classroom! This is the powerful "data" we should be focused on. https://t.co/gfVraAk8My
Really good teaching is inquiry based and the world is the stage to get the information
Inquiry-based instruction uses the globe as a stage, says Mill Valley superintendent.
"Inquiry is the highest level of tchg. Kids coming up w/their own probs & own solutions to probs...that's fun tchg!
Inquiry teaching. Ss solve problems that they are interested in. The world is the stage for information.
"Success breeds success" Thanks - need to come visit program and the true inquiry -- service learning
"Really good teaching = inquiry based instruction. Kids asking questions & finding solutions to them"
Amazing afternoon of learning Thank you
Transformative change requires tchg support network, time to collaborate, and a focus on helping each other grow.
Panel 3: : Going means collaboration, broad buy-in from diverse stakeholders, & willingness for risk-taking.
Huge takeaway from this panel: More important for students to learn to come up w/ solutions than to learn about problems.
We'll always need tchr facilitators to guide kids to formulate questions, discern b/w sources &communicate findings"
Thanks & for organizing a great event--very interesting & very informative. Love focus on global ed
. And of course for providing us a great space
"As an admin, I want our kids to be problem solvers & resourceful in finding info rather than feeding them answers"
Just about every innovative school district I've admired has a strong strategic plan built by stakeholders.
