Evening #PrinLeaderChat Meredith joining from SW Florida - 26 years as a principal in four different states. Now I enjoy watching the Gulf of Mexico float by each day.
A1: Renewal is about rebirth of opportunities, mending old, damaged, or broken relationships in the organization, a chance to reboot if the school community and culture requires it. Renewal is great for leaders and students! #PrinLeaderChat

A1: In our school, we are working on our #OneWord for 2019. I have shared mine & am excited to see everyone else’s! I think renewal gives us all time to think, reflect, & refocus for the second half of the school year! #LeadbyExample#Perseverance#PrinLeaderChat@casehighprinc
A1 I think you nailed it with the question; it is all about modeling. Showing all stakeholders that you believe in renewal and give them time to reflect and start fresh with every new chance, whether a new grading period, a new year or just another chance 2 change #PrinLeaderChat
Renewal can mean a lot of different things, but I think it's something that we need to constantly keep at the forefront of our minds as leaders.
The world is changing rapidly, which means schools are, too. We have to be constantly evolving or we will fail.
#PrinLeaderChat
#PrinLeaderChat A1 I finding renewal with a group of likeminded principals through our @MSAA_33 state association who are sponsoring our #SoulofLeadership group based on the work of responsive classroom and the center for creative leadership @rickrogers409@bmaurao
A1. Renewal is a terrific way to rise up, start fresh, see the bright opportunity in each day.
Greeting everyone with a joyful smile when saying hello.
#PrinLeaderchat
A1. Renewal is important as it allows us to be our best when needed for others; I model this by not emailing staff on weekends as I want them to spend time with family. #PrinLeaderChat
A1 Teach it not preach it- model it... intentionally! I need to do this for me, I need you to do this for you and we need to do this for us... it’s amazing where open, honest conversations will take you. Our focus has relied heavily on happiness via mindfulness.
#PrinLeaderChat
A1. We try to remind each other of why we’re doing what we’re doing after any and every break. For us, it can feel like just another day back, but for kids, it’s the only day like this they’re ever going to have. We try to remind each other it’s about them! #PrinLeaderChat

A2. Right here on Twitter! I moderate the #BookCampPD chat where educators who dive into their professional learning through books abound. I adore learning with them. #PrinLeaderChat
A2 I work in a great district with great colleagues I can trust. The @ilprincipals and @AWSP_Principals leaders give phenomenal opportunities for shared learning as well. #PrinLeaderChat
A1: Renewal - putting into practice at faculty mtg tomorrow. Staff creating flipgrid library of effective instructional practices they use so all can learn, grow, reflect together. #PrinLeaderChat
A1: I’m not one to set a resolution each year. However, it can certainly be a catalyst for change for others. Regardless of the reason for renewal and change, champion the efforts of all looking to make their lives and students’ lives better.
#prinleaderchat
A2 I found most through @MSAA_33#MSAAchat & through meeting at conferences as well as my ever-growing PLN through Twitter where I have maybe only virtually met some sensational ed leaders but those connections are so powerful to me. #PrinLeaderChat
A2) I've learned that my "tribe" looks different depending on where I am. My tribe is my wife who never lets me settle. My tribe are my staff who do a fantastic job for kids everyday. My tribe are my colleagues who push my thinking about possibilities.
#PrinLeaderChat
A2: This is a two-part answer...Last summer in Chicago, I found the most amazing tribe who supports me, encourages me, & fills me with energy—I love them!
I have my #FalconFamily! I work with the best people who share a great vision of learning for our students! #PrinLeaderChat
A2. I have found my tribe by finding others that want to be connected educators who aspire to learn, stretch themselves and influence others to make school amazing. It’s my PLN! #PrinLeaderChat
A2 I’m lucky to work with great educators who are a great support system. And of course, my Twitter friends are awesome. And my family is a huge source of renewal. #PrinLeaderChat
A2: I have found my tribe on Twitter (thank goodness) and I was reminded yesterday by Twitter that I've been a member for 7 years- yikes! #prinleaderchat
A2. It was interesting over my 40 year career in four different States to connect with those educators and still have marvelous conversations with many of them today. It was quite the journey! #PrinLeaderChat
A2: Reconnecting with my district colleagues and my cohort of admin working on rdg spec cert to better support our buildings. Back to class on Thurs night! #PrinLeaderChat
#PrinLeaderChat A2 I think many seek too many like minded thinkers when we need to be challenged by those who think differently and also push us. My PLN is awesome & diverse opinions but all life-long learners
A3. I have drawn great ideas from the best coaches - how they create a winning culture where the team holds each other accountable (collaboration)and they believe they can beat anyone (efficacy). #PrinLeaderChat
A3) For a long time, I thought we had to "teach it all." I let go of that this year. The world is no longer about what you know, but about what you can do with what you know.
It's time to make instruction mirror life.
#PrinLeaderChat
#PrinLeaderChat A3 During a difficult conversation with a teacher I realized that it is our love for students AND their learning not either or that makes our classrooms and our schools special places to be. We have to have both!
A3 Some of my best professional learning has been transferred from lessons I’ve learned as a husband and dad. I share a number of those stories in my book #FutureDriven. #PrinLeaderChat
A3: Being a parent is so humbling, and the simple way my 7 and 4 year old daughters see the world inspires my leadership. By just listening to and watching them, I’m often reminded of the principles that really matter. #PrinLeaderChat
A3. One day I was quite overwhelmed and wanting to avoid any conflict that came my direction.
A fellow principal shared with me, "With conflict comes change." Saying that in my mind sure helped. #PrinLeaderChat
I agree. One of the most important "readiness" skills is learning how to reach out for learning instead of waiting for a teacher to infuse information. #PrinLeaderChat
A3: I think finding like-minded leaders has been very important to how I lead. It has given me confidence & helped me take risks! I love celebrating successes & going back to the drawing board with my incredible #PLN. I love learning and being challenged to grow! #PrinLeaderChat
I find that the professional epiphanies that hit home most occur on the playground and cafeteria.
I’m on home turf with the students, and they teach me a lot. #PrinLeaderChat
A2 I found an experienced principal in another District in our area, and we share with each other at least twice a week. Developed a “Principals Roundtable” to ask each other’s advice and insight. 60+ principals now participate. Also, mentored three Admin. #PrinLeaderChat
A3 Interesting ? Brian...
I think my epiphanies have come lately from my personal kids... excelling and unhappy in school - how that is unacceptable for me and how I thought I was needed in high need schools to be “needed” for happiness agency #PrinLeaderChat
#PrinLeaderChat A3 During a difficult conversation with a teacher I realized that it is our love for students AND their learning not either or that makes our classrooms and our schools special places to be. We have to have both!
A3: I have learned to be transparent, honest and genuine...and human. When you truly care and help others find their WHY and support them...great things can happen! #prinleaderchat
A3 Great ? Just always keeping an eye on how to be more personable/relatable/better as a leader. Watching great people be “great” & trying to emulate those ideals in how I deal with everyone on a daily basis. #PrinLeaderChat
A3 The first time I ever saw @RStiggins speak. His explanations rang so true with me...I was never the same teacher again. My #1 leadership goal is to help the most important adults, the teachers, help the most the most important people, the students. #PrinLeaderChat
A3b) Nick Saban (Alabama FB coach):
1) Do your job 2) Focus on how you can get better, not what the other guy is doing 3) Little things are not things #PrinLeaderChat
A3: I have learned to be transparent, honest and genuine...and human. When you truly care and help others find their WHY and support them...great things can happen! #prinleaderchat
A4. I strive to find balance (Personal, Positional, Passions and Professional) from BLAP so I can grow in all areas and have the drive consistently to make positive change #PrinLeaderChat
#PrinLeaderChat Being mindful of the needs of others and myself. Adding myself to the mix is new but i am learning to care for myself too. Thank you to my #SoulofLeadership peers and @tconrad99 for help with that!
I find inspiration in others to push me ahead. @gcouros, @brewerhm, @SteeleThoughts... all three of these guys push me to become a champion for kids. Anyone have any other suggestions of people to follow?
#PrinLeaderChat

@casehighprinc, @gcouros, @brewerhm, @SteeleThoughts
A4: Great question...Connecting in Twitter chats is probably my number 1 answer, but reading, listening, writing, watching, & learning are a close second. But, I also believe that none of those strategies works without a willingness to try & take risks. #PrinLeaderChat
A4. I kept this as a reminder close by my desk.
Crazy how often people just want to talk about people. If we can steer toward ideas .... progress is being made. #PrinLeaderChat
Love to share with kids and adults the many many books I am reading.
My number in 2018: 92 works, mostly fiction, plays and educational books.
#PrinLeaderChat
a4 Keeping up with ed news on ASCD, EdWk, etc. I am better able to interpret what I see in my classroom when I hear from others in education #PrinLeaderChat
A4 My one thing is to empower others to find a path of purpose. No going through the motions or just playing school. Let’s make it meaningful, purposeful, and life changing. #PrinLeaderChat
A3b) Nick Saban (Alabama FB coach):
1) Do your job 2) Focus on how you can get better, not what the other guy is doing 3) Little things are big things #PrinLeaderChat
A)2 First and foremost, I have an admin team who support, question, celebrate, and question some more. This past year I have also been more aggressive in Twitter-stalking as many high school principals as possible. #PrinLeaderChat
A4. To remember that every person that approaches me to talk, share a concern, or idea has an important voice in how our school can take that next step to greatness. #PrinLeaderChat
A4 Facilitating Twitter chats and being more involved in Voxer groups. The interactions make me want to be better for our students and staff. #PrinLeaderChat
Mahalo for joining #PrinLeaderChat! Be sure to follow your fellow chat participants and grow your #PLN. See you again next week as 2016 @NASSP National Digital Principal @bobby__dodd discusses Improving Instructional Leadership.
It's almost that time. I hope you took away just ONE idea and found some inspiration to be on the road to professional renewal.
Positivity is a choice. You already made a great decision by joining this tribe tonight.
Happy New Year to all my #PrinLeaderChat friends. Cheers!

#PrinLeaderChat A4 Just be a continuous learner by continuing to learn from so many excellent and experienced educators in clinics, through Twitter chats, and doing ongoing educational research. My PLN has helped me grow a lot.
A3 Instead of trying to approach the challenges of our building through the idea that admin will solve, we instead create avenues to empower staff and get out of the way. No longer does our admin team get in an office and solve a problem. #prinleaderchat
Fastest 30 minutes in recent memory.
Thanks all for sharing and risk-taking.
I appreciate your modeling, especially in your vulnerability.
Happy New Year all!! #PrinLeaderChat
A3 Lots of people have been credited with saying it, but “People don’t care how much you know until they know how much you care” is something I got from William Watson Purkey...and he is one of the three wisest people I know! My epiphany.) #PrinLeaderChat
Why else get involved? Intentions and commitments for helping people to find passion and purpose beyond themselves. My closing remarks very similar here:
https://t.co/c1ktk8cPqr#PrinLeaderChat
A4. My 2019 OneWord is REFLECT. I think I need to take more time to consider each interaction and action. After 40 years in education, I tend to think I have immediate answers/solutions. Probably not in today’s changing world. Need to REFLECT, then respond. #PrinLeaderChat
