A1: Had kids in my office like this today.... I'm going to be on the playground tomorrow with them playing football. They need to see that I care about them as kids and individuals. The guy behind the desk is intimidating. The guy catching a touchdown is relatable. #eduAR
A1: The child in the ball cap, he didn't speak to me for an entire year in 2nd grade. By third grade, I'd learned to play the #ukulele and it somehow spoke his language. He started by grunting at me but it turned into a full-blown connection after days and days of THIS! #eduAR
A1 Start Every day with a positive and provide choices throughout their days. The relationship has to be cultivated first before any work can get done. #EduAR
A1: Put in the time to build a relationship. Talk about interests outside of school. Show that you care about him/her totally, not just how they do in school. #EduAR

A1: At the secondary level, my successful experiences includes daily, relentless, bold and loving actions that walked out the belief that all kids’ hearts need their rhythm revealed. Some are just more hidden. #EduAR

A1: Show them that they can trust you by listening to them and building a relationship with them. Give them reasons to trust you and show them you are someone they can and should trust. #eduar
A1. As all of you, oh so wise, educators have been sharing.
Yup, it's all about relationships that are developed through listening rather than too much talking. #EduAR
@Lindsey_Bohler#EduAR A1 Be real. Be you. Don't put on a show or be dripping sweetness kids know a show when they see one. Be a straight shooter. They appreciate and respect that way more.
A1 Start fresh. Whether its Thursday or 2:00, take a deep breath and start over. Pray lots & look for what they're not saying as much as what they are. Love unconditionally. They're worth it. #eduAR

A1 We must see them with the eyes of our heart, value them, love them like they’re our own blood. Establish an authentic relationship to build the foundation of trust. #EduAR

A1 Give students a reason to come back every day. Meet them where they are, celebrate them & the small successes throughout the day. They’re worth it. #EduAR
A1) There is an entry point to begin building a relationship with anyone. The problem is that we must remove the ideology of our minds that comes with the title of our position and earn the right to lead all children. #EduAr
A1: Trust must be built. Work on the relationship, have conversations, LISTEN. I often find myself talking too much talking and not listening enough. #eduar
A2: I think we need to have administrators who trust and believe in the process, who have our backs and understand the importance of relationships! #EduAR

A2: Teachers need their lead learners to be visible. They also need to rely on their colleagues for support, advice, strategies, and sometimes even a break. #EduAR
A2 A variety of tools never hurt for teachers to provide students with. If/then statements are huge for task completion, positive reinforcement consistently, find what a student will work for, and frequent breaks are my go-tos! #EduAR
So true. Thanks for the encouragement, reminder, and charge. Teachers need to know we've got their back so they can continue the charge of making a difference in the classroom. #EDUAR
A2. ALL educators need the collaborative power of helping each other. From within their caring, genius will come answers to reach the children who seems unreachable. #EduAR
A2) A space to speak truthfully about their current emotions and the ability to have their dispositions realigned to conquer the fear of the unknown to meet the needs of all kids. #EduAr
Counselors, admin that are committed to the same goal the teacher is. That means the teacher will have to share their plan with them and get them on board.#EduAR
A2: In the classroom, I needed my principal to trust that I was doing my best, give it to me straight when I needed to do better, and simply listen sometimes. #EduAR
A2: Teachers need support in the area of positive behavior supports and restorative practices.
Negative and punitive behavior management tools are ineffective. #EduAR

A2 A sounding board, a nonjudgmental colleague, a break now and then! My sweet secretary knew that if a child came to her with a scribbled nonsense note, I didn't need anything, except for a brief 5 minutes of peace! #eduAR

A2: We do kidtalks at our school. Ts share the Ss struggles, and work together with a team to find supports to put in place. This is a monthly meeting, but the discussion can happen daily through our shared document! #EduAR
Interesting comment! The most at-risk students I ever worked with didn't give a plugged nickel about my title of being principal. They had watched many principals come and go. They leaned back and wondered about trust. #EduAR

A2: Sometimes our Ts just need permission to step into their stories. Empathy leads to compassion; help them ask, "Do they want attention or crave connection?" Every behavior is a need, some for of communication. What are they NOT saying? #eduAR
Q3. Some see administration as the ‘go to’ people for kids with extreme behaviors. What do they need from teachers regarding hard to reach kids? #EduAR@bethhill2829@nortnik
Q2: Educators need Admin support and systems in place to help Ss in targeted ways. Also helps to have ppl on staff who can help us understand the diverse backgrounds of our Ss & staff. #eduAR
The key to supporting the teacher is to listen to them. We really want the same things our students want. Trust, support, acknowledgment of good things, and help for where we aren't doing so good! #EduAR
A2: As an admin, my T’s needed me to be consistent and present. At the secondary level, my experiences involved helping many t’s see how we can’t shut doors, and let them tag out sometimes. Punitive systems didn’t help anyone. #EduAR

A2: #EduAr I need to know beyond any doubt that the teachers/ supports/ and principals are student centered then I am open to all ideas. If I doubt I have zero respect for them and then don't care what they tell me I won't do it. I teach grades 6-12 inpatient psyche hospital
A3: Behaviors are a form of communication. By sending them away, what are we communicating? They need to know that we WANT them in our classrooms. This is a shameless plug for Peace Corners and Zones of Regulation. #EduAR

A3 Our teachers have to take responsibility for their students. Admin can be a resource but they are not a place where students go every day. We have to work with where students are together first! #EduAR

A3: Admins need to be able to see that the teacher has tried different avenues of behavior interventions. Are they trying to build a relationship with that S? Are the consequences something that means something to him/her? Has the counselor or another T been asked to help?#EduAR
A3 Background and a plan. It's definitely a team effort. When things are documented & communicated, it sure makes life for everyone easier (including the child.) The child sees they are a priority to us all. #eduAR

A3: Admin needs truth about the challenges w our school culture in regard to reaching Ss. Admin needs to know how to pull all Ts together on strategies that work. We all need to be reminded of our WHY in regard to serving ALL Ss. #eduAR
A3 Every time you send a student to the office, you break down the trust and relationship you build with that student. Use administration as needed but not as a dumping ground. #EduAR
Yes, I would definitely agree! Hard to reach kids are still OUR kids first and foremost, and we need them to know they have our support and that we care and are involved in this just as much as they are! We need to stand beside them, not in front or behind #eduAR

A3: Administrators are part of the team, NOT the answer to the problem! I'm their support, admin is their support, there is no bad cop. WE are the helpers and we take that away from the student when we treat admin like a punishment. #EduAR
A3: I think our admins and teachers need a clear plan of action per action/ consequence AND turn teachers & admin into people of reward to see rather than a punishment for for maladaptive behaviors. Focus on all the positives and quite expelling students from the classroom #eduar

A4 Provide the good you see along with what you’re working with the student on. Ask for suggestions on what they utilize at home and work together. It’s not a one way street. #EduAR
A3. I wonder .... if ..... we need to take a step back and realize learning together about how to best help a struggling student might not be the best plan? I believe the teacher is reaching out for help by sending the student. #EduAR
A4: We need to reach out to them and be welcoming right at the start of the school year. If we do this, if the need ever arises to have a difficult conversation, we already have that relationship. #EduAR

A4: #Eduar Send more positive emails about how fantastic their students are doing than negative complaining about behaviors. The whole world tells them they aren't parenting well and their kids are messed up, we don't need to add to that, we need to break the cycle
Amen! Principals get a very bad rep because of the stereotype of being the disciplinarian, he one who delivers the bad news, etc. We are helpers. #EduAR
A3: Administrators are part of the team, NOT the answer to the problem! I'm their support, admin is their support, there is no bad cop. WE are the helpers and we take that away from the student when we treat admin like a punishment. #EduAR
As an admin I need to know the teacher is in it to win it... all in, whatever it takes to make a break through. So often it takes many to help the hard to reach child and everyone must be committed. #eduar
@Lindsey_Bohler#EduAR A4 Again,be real. Parents of hard to reach Ss know they're hard to reach. They live with them. They may not admit it but talking openly about behaviors shows you are willing to be straight. Honestly is not mean, it shows integrity on your part.
A4: Never talk down to parents, no matter the situation. Go to them as equals, share your dreams for their child, because they have them too. Share with them how you can relate on a personal level (but not too personal) #EduAR
A4: Repeating this Q regularly should be part of our practice - “How can we support and engage the families of our hard to reach kids?” Coming back to it over and over and over again is part of the process .... #eduAR
Interventions .... YES! I believe sitting down and clearly identifying the challenging behavior and pin-pointing the intervention WITH the student being involved will be marvelous! #EduAR
A4 Positive calls home, emails, messages! Make sure they know we love their most valued treasure and that we are partnering with them to unlock the potential of their child. #EduAR
A4: The best thing I think I could do to engage families is the Day Maker calls when their hard-to-reach kids were caught making good choices. Also, those calls that just ask, "How are you doing? How can we support you?"
Reach out. It's a game-changer! #eduAR
A4 Communication first & early that I'm thrilled to have the child in our world. Later, when I call, we've established a relationship. When parents see I truly care for their child, life is better. I've also lrnd to talk directly & honestly, even when it hurts a bit. #eduAR

A4: I would say communication. Letting the family know that you are a part of their team working with them and their child to reach success for the S #eduar
I was a Guest Teacher in a district several years ago, where the kids who struggled had a Buddy Room. The classroom teacher would simply fill out a checklist w/ a brief description and the Ss would go to the Buddy Room, a teacher they had a relationship with. #EduAR
A4: By communicating without judgment! They know the struggle their kid is having. Most extreme behavior students have parents who are actively trying to find a solution. Help needs to come in a supportive package! #EduAR
A3) Administration needs to know that despite what is going on each educator treats the student with the dignity and respect they would want another adult to give their child. #EduAr
A4: We are forming plans right now to reach out by creating family nights at a few of our apartment complexes. Our expectation is that WE will go to them rather than expecting THEM to come to us. We want to form partnerships and that begins with us taking the first step. #eduAR
I tell them that they know more about their child than I could ever hope to and I need their knowledge and expertise about how to make school the best possible place for their child to be. #EduAR

We can support the families by connecting them with outside services, supports we're using in the classroom, calm down strategies, behavior plans, anything that they can do at home to reinforce what we are doing in the classroom or vice versa! #EduAR
A5 As hard as the push back is from students, never, ever give up on any student. Utilize your resources, ask for help, and put your students in the center of decisions. #EduAR
A5: Wear your strengths goggles and don’t ever let them come off your face. See the greatness and the awesomeness inside every kid, even if it is covered up with so many layers. #EduAR
A5: Contribute your TIME. If you see a kid looking down, go talk to them. They may not want to talk about their troubles, but there’s SOMETHING they WILL talk about. Find it. #EduAR
Help can come w/o having to send a student away. Say, I'm sending for some help bc what I'm saying isn't working. Let's see if maybe someone else has a better idea for how we can fix this. That is powerful! You just taught them it's ok to ask for help! #EduAR
A3. I wonder .... if ..... we need to take a step back and realize learning together about how to best help a struggling student might not be the best plan? I believe the teacher is reaching out for help by sending the student. #EduAR
A5: All of our children just want to feel loved! So many of our kids come to us from situations that would break our hearts. Treat them as the precious children that they are! You may be the only one doing it. #EduAR

A5: Look them in the eyes. Love them unconditionally. Don't just tell them they matter; SHOW them. They need to FEEL that they're important, so they can build those trust bridges and learn to love unconditionally back. It's a give and take and it can't be rushed. #eduAR
A5: Contribute your TIME. If you see a kid looking down, go talk to them. They may not want to talk about their troubles, but there’s SOMETHING they WILL talk about. Find it. #EduAR
A5: When you think you're not reaching them later on down the road they'll think of you and what you did in their behalf. Always look at the long journey and not the few miles because we are just cheerleaders on the sideline on our Ss journey! #eduAR
A5: As adults when we model some vulnerability it makes the us worth “reaching” for and getting to know ... open up so a S will be interested in the invitation. Keep trying - no idea how we’re really received. The effort matters. #eduAR

WOW! I haven't seen this before. I love it!! Please share it more often on Twitter. Just because I just now watched it doesn't mean I won't be uplifted by seeing it again. How powerful for a teacher to view it before starting off a day? #EduAR
