Yes I have. I was just so excited about this topic that I had to join. When I'm passionate, I commit.
welcome! is one of the few chats I try to catch every week - lots of great conversations!
A1 I try to lead by example. When teachers see the benefits they ask for advice on how to use the . I help when I can!
Good Morning, I'm Angie, an Instructional Technology Coach in Savannah GA

Good morning! Tech Turnkey trainer and librarian from upstate NY
Yeah...would love to tell you it was some sort of calling to be on but there were 20,000 mosquitos in my room.
Q1: skills for educators are essential today. How do you motivate other educators to learn new skills?
Good Morning ! Cristin from GA- Director of Instructional Tech
A1: Admin must commit significant time & $$ on professional learning to promote deep acquisition of tech skills skills
A1: To motivate others, lead by example & motivate your students first. Let your students promote authentically.
A1 There's a ton of tech available, help them start small, show the potential, let them ease into the process, nothing overwhelming
Hey there, my friend! Happy Saturday!
A1: I motivate colleagues by always showing value. Value for them and value for Ss. Also, It's not diff. just give it a try!
Not a bad Saturday morning, and
A1: Teachers should be given same training in tech skills as top chefs get in knife skills
A1: Similar process as with S's, we must provide T's with a safe, supportive place to take risks.
That is not good. Was over and left the screen door opened?
Morning ! Tony from Charlottesville VA here- I'll join in while I can. Great to see you all.
Good morning, Carl! Hope all is well!
A1: Give colleagues something they can hear about today and use tomorrow (or in their next class)
Good morning Mary, Bus Ed. T from CT, looking forward to another great chat!
A1) Last yr I held Think Tech Thursdays: 1/2 hour after school share one tech app or skill w/teachers https://t.co/UK8vyLT2im
A1 (1/2) Lead by example and model you expectations.
A1: provide coaching support. Lead by example. nurture and nudge
A1) The best motivator is either show relevant examples or help them develop relevant examples for their classroom.
Q1 use the skills yourself so others can see how useful they are. Motivate by example
Q1 Ts need to know tech is "doable" - model, model, model and support- tech learning coaches are essential
A1: Yes, model with your own Ss first. Let Ss help pave the way https://t.co/hUjlw7jSiW
A1: To motivate others, lead by example & motivate your students first. Let your students promote authentically.
Good morning! Valerie from Atlanta. Teacher of littles. Love all things techie!
A1: Communication. I think lack of knowing what's out there is a barrier for some & communicating possibilities can be a motivator
A1: Share the tech I love with anyone who will listen, Encourage others to join me on and .
A1: Adults like to know how learning something new is going to make what they currently do quicker and/or easier.
A1 - I believe its like learning anything new. It has to be relevant and useful
Q1....... Provide support that opens eyes and opportunities. Must be consistent over course of the year to support tech ambitions.
A1 I motivate by making them be open to any choice. First it's important to research and learn to get comfortable. Then the rest
Exactly-Ts want to see effectiveness before jumping on prematurely. Don't we all? https://t.co/QL6RdY8mAq
A1) The best motivator is either show relevant examples or help them develop relevant examples for their classroom.
Agreed, I think some Ts see Tech as a little overwhelming...start small!
A1- When I do PD on Google, it's very hands on and interactive. Ts are trying out what I'm presenting & I am walking around helping
A1: Demystify by showing how easy it's to use and how it will help.
It may seem like it but this is not rocket science!
A Pleasure to have you on Winston!
1A)Offer "User Group" sessions ongoing involving the technology innovation team
(Chromebook User Group AM & after school options)
A1: this is a great question. Start with the ones who are self-motivated and reach out to mothers through them.
A1 Let them see that it isn't difficult and encourage them to start small - Always be there to help
A1: Give 'em what they need and keep 'em wanting more!
A1. Create a culture that encourages Ts to take risks in instruction w/o fear of negative feedback.
You would think. The first thought I had was what was more annoying...20,000 mosquitos or Sinanis?
Great to meet a fellow tech integration coach!
A1: Model, model, model. Bonus points if admin is doing it to. Also to have a culture of risk taking
A1 Model and show examples of success. Be willing to demonstrate and help out. Let the kids talk it up.
A1: "Pay it forward PD." Share simple Edtech ideas and encourage them to do the same.
A1 Understand their needs and demonstrate something small that can personally help them become more effective educators.
Good point
one shot pd does not change teacher practices or Ss learning
A1(2/2) Ran weekly 30-minute PD on tech topics. Tech-Know Tuesdays became venue to help others get on board with technology.
A1:model,model,model.Give time for discovery and experimentation with support as needed.Recognition of risk taking and celebration!
I found that's the best way to engage others & motivate them to try something new.
Great answer. Really like "support tech ambitions"
https://t.co/sKraEc9577
Q1....... Provide support that opens eyes and opportunities. Must be consistent over course of the year to support tech ambitions.
A1 As a media specialist I offered tech training for Ts. As a staff developer I deliver tech training on a wider scale.
Good morning great to be back!
A1 I show them how the tools can be useful to them and fit into their curriculum with differentiated PD.
A1- you must be encouraging, open, &willing to help others. Also, expressing what Ss have done with tech is very motivating for Ts!
A1: connect Ts to tech that first makes their own current work more efficient or collaborative, then point to tech as tool for Ss
A1: Sometimes you also need to show the value of using it personally vs professionally to get the skill into the classroom.
not sure tons of $ is necessary. Find experts at your school to lead
A1: Model to create buy in- students vidoes, provide hands on opportunities for them to try. If it is a passion really sell it!
A1: be willing to share what you're doing, talk and show; be willing to help also
An excellent point! https://t.co/FOeqVziEN9
A1. Create a culture that encourages Ts to take risks in instruction w/o fear of negative feedback.
A1: One of the problems w/ skills is that they aren't well defined. Thus easy to fear. Maybe defining is all we need.
A1. I motivate other educators around by modeling, discussing offering support & using my Ss to share with other Ts.
A1: I try to teach that the + curriculum r intertwined this past week my curric. grad ss followed u
Great points https://t.co/WlENq5Kx4f
A1: Similar process as with S's, we must provide T's with a safe, supportive place to take risks.
Good morning, 1st year 7th grade SS T in NY, popping in and out this morning
how was the turnout? Did it increase or decrease over the year?
Good morning and thank you!
I still go back to when I had to implement email with our Ts. I taught them to us eit privately first
Yes! and this will lead directly to the classroom!
A1: I motivate others by presenting at conferences, blogging, and setting the example.
what's a screen door? Must be a country thing.
Use PD method. Share tech expertise with colleagues
Agree. . Effective marketing to your stakeholders is key.
A1 RE: motivation for change, I like the Drive approach- articulate the WHY, set goals & offer feedback on the HOW
A1: Motivate others to learn new skills by researching, exploring, and modeling benefits these tools have on learning
A1 Allow time for practice. Very frustrating for Ts to try to use new tech w/out practice. Often fails & then they quit.
A1: helpful if you have some that have already used it to provide feedback to the rest of the group. Show how to overcome pitfalls.
A1: model edtech skills. Take what a non-tech teacher does & show how it can be done with edtech. Guide and lead, don't criticize!
Celebration of risk taking love it! Definitely take notice when someone steps out of their comfort zone!
A1. I motivate others by sharing resources that fit their needs. IF possible I find ways to scaffolding learning.
So true! How do you think you develop that culture of risk taking?!
This is what I love & wish more people knew
Eds up early, on own time, learning where they are comfortalbe
https://t.co/RCDxj5Reet
A1: I think meet them where they are at(empathy), what are their goals and needs?
A1 Cogito ergo share..widely. Put it out there. Talk it up. Own mistakes along the way. Skywriting at the beach maybe?
and sharing something they didn't even know they needed :-D
A1. Ts are more receptive to tech coaching with a gentle hand.
A1: patience, not everyone will be in the same place at the same time, meet people where they are
A1 Showing and demonstrating how easy it is during presentations really helps out fellow Ts makes them feel comfortable.
A1: this is a great question. Start with the ones who are self-motivated and reach out to others (less motivated) through them.
A1 Ask them and then provide as many personalized PD opportunities as possible - let Ts lead.
A1 The Ss help. They talk about things they enjoy in class and other Ts catch on
Good strategy. Like learning to ride a bike. Training wheels first to build confidence https://t.co/3H9vD3bKer
A1 There's a ton of tech available, help them start small, show the potential, let them ease into the process, nothing overwhelming
A1: OWNERSHIP! We learn more when we own it...let your staff direct their learning. Don't get out of the way...just let them drive.
A1b- Also, be sure tech serves a purpose. T's feel overloaded by growing demands. Don't push new tech unless it's useful.
So important for PD to be hands on and interactive, model the learning you want my students to experience! https://t.co/xbJWkGxgqz
A1- When I do PD on Google, it's very hands on and interactive. Ts are trying out what I'm presenting & I am walking around helping
A1: Be there for the ppl you are encouraging. Having support is very comforting.
Great idea to create buy in!
following up with attendees after a PD session can really help the new learner, as some need that extra support
Showing the potential, getting others to see "what this thing can do"
Watch the Seinfeld episode where Kramer installs screen door in his apartment
A1 It's another reason I love learning experiences. Not everything I learn there is 100% thought out. Room for me, others.
I think it starts top down. Admin willing to take risks with tech and being vulnerable in front of Ts goes a one way
A1:Share, share, share the enthusiasm can be contagious
Absolutely correct. We need to differentiate learning for our colleagues when it comes to
https://t.co/dmBI7beL4R
A1: patience, not everyone will be in the same place at the same time, meet people where they are
Definitely something that we need to keep in mind!!
A1 Ts need to see how tech can help them increase Ss learning. Show them specifically how they can use in their classroom
A1: I had someone who kept wanting to do it for me, teach me so I can learn to do it myself
A1: I show them different productions done by Ss with apps & tools
A1: I make it about attraction, not promotion. Other Tchrs hear from Ss and get curious about whats going on in my classroom
Yes, especially by those who say "I don't have time for that" š± https://t.co/WoxiY4yh7B
A1 Allow time for practice. Very frustrating for Ts to try to use new tech w/out practice. Often fails & then they quit.
Depended on month more than yr; less in Spring most in Fall; also topic mattered; had regulars and others who popped in.
Great point!
https://t.co/HWAV8BC64k
A1 It's another reason I love learning experiences. Not everything I learn there is 100% thought out. Room for me, others.
Such an important thing to celebrate stepping out of the comfort zone! Having a supportive culture is key! https://t.co/oLium7TMiY
Celebration of risk taking love it! Definitely take notice when someone steps out of their comfort zone!
absolutely!! I give Ts my email address & encourage them to email me at any time.
LOL I remember that episode.
Knowing the purpose is key!
I so agree ! Teachers need examples just like kids do https://t.co/XEfou1wv3S
A1 Model and show examples of success. Be willing to demonstrate and help out. Let the kids talk it up.
A1 Nurture each other's curiosity & creativity along the way to innovation & entrepreneurship.. as read in 's Insight Out
A1 - We worked w/ our PTA to set up mini-grants to pay teachers to be innovative! https://t.co/3nvTDy6PEC
Q1: skills for educators are essential today. How do you motivate other educators to learn new skills?
A1. 2 turnkeys in all schools & have amazing i-coaches & push in 2 help Ts right in the classroom
A1: For hesitant T's, start with things that will help their productivity. Tools that just make life easier like Chrome extens.
A2 I learn new tech skills via Twitter, conferences but mostly taking time to play - playtime is essential
A2: I learn about new skills on twitter, research all over the internet, and fine-tune with
A2: I also learn skills at conferences, , & in conversations w/ other teachers.
Build a PLC & share your skills.
I'm interested, what is ??
lead with the benifits...this will set up the motivation
hi Larry great words of wisdom from a world class teacher
Good morning! Jumping in for a bit. Appreciate responses to Q1. Wrote about my communication mistake here: https://t.co/uQwd51cxmT
That's great. Ts need time to work with tech when help is present. Not just show an app and send home to figure out
A1: Demonstrate success and others WANT to be on board.
Good morning from French Guiana colleagues!
I agree - is there a way teachers can to help create a culture of risk taking?
- if T's can't justify purpose in their heads then it comes off as another non-essential exercise.
A1 Differentiate tech learning. Newbies get overwhelmed and more practiced get bored in all the same sessions. Teacher voice!
Absolutely! We had slates introduced to us in a quick mtg, & every T at school left theirs in the drawer! https://t.co/hNaYhtPrBY
A1 Allow time for practice. Very frustrating for Ts to try to use new tech w/out practice. Often fails & then they quit.
A2: Edtech blogs & social media are helpful resources as well as general tech resources to keep edtech skills sharp.
A2 I'm always open to learning about . Since it's always changing, you have to be willing to continue to learn in many ways
I also think it is important to show the pitfalls
Happy Saturday MN fourth grade teacher and a little tired!
A1 cont'd: Along w/that, I believe motivation is fueled by autonomy on WHEN, WHAT, HOW, & W/WHOM- offer a menu of choices as ideas
Iām still drinking my coffee and waking up (I didnāt even notice!)
A1 make the tech workshop hands-on. I've been to workshops where half the time is discussion.
A2) From students, from other educators, from real life, from my kids
Q2: As an educator where / how do you learn new skills?
A2. I connect through Twitter to other Ts. I also hop on chats where is a focus such as
A1- out district sends out a Google form as a pre-assessment in order to differentiate groups & give Ts what they need for tech PD
A2: I am constantly sharing what I learn from Twitter w/ a group that I work with. I love when they return the favor.
Hi Sandra. What time is it there?
I think just that, lead by example then tell their story and share. Kids get the word out too!
Sorry to miss but 14 yo has to get to work and Mom taxi is running. Have a great weekend.
Welcome! So glad that you joined us!
A2: learn from Twitter, PD, research and thru talking to other Ts from all around. Sharing of ideas is key
A1: My district provides online learning for Ts. They have designed courses about Twitter, and a variety of tech tools.
A2 Through twitter, social media, podcasts, learn by doing/trying not being afraid of failing; seeking feedback from students
Good to know Thinking about doing something similar. Didn't know if after school worked. Did you promote topic b4
A2: I learn new from paying attention to what my peers are using, what my Ss are using, & following other tech users
It's amazing what conversations in the hallways and classrooms between Ts can accomplish.
A2: I subscribe to a variety of blogs, I use the Twitter, I create a podcast () and use
A1b useful and relevant plus training needs to be provided to ensure Ts can deliver this tech
So true! Let your students share the skills they are learning! https://t.co/hJ64dRkF8m
I think just that, lead by example then tell their story and share. Kids get the word out too!
A2: Just dive in. If you can dedicate an hour to a new tech tool you will have a pretty good idea if it is a fit for you.
A1: model new tech use day2day, get ppl asking āhow did you do that?ā. Offer support before, during and after intro.
Not tons of $$ - but s/b recognized as a significant part of budget-most schools spend $$ on equip but 0 on PL
A2- I'm always looking up new websites, platforms, apps, etc. (finding them on Twitter or Pinterest) and then exploring them!
A2: learn a lot from Twitter
A2. I read blogs/books about ,explore diff. tech. I play with tech that I am not used to & problem solve.
Exactly, that is when I start making to-do lists and lose interest! Something I keep in mind with my 3rd graders!
We follow our ā¤& move on (if necessary)but no guilty/regrets..That'd close the door for a maybe ROI(ReturnOnInvestment)& b smarteršŖ
RT Q2: As an educator where / how do you learn new skills?
A1: Missy from UGA grad course ... have collaboration among teachers and learn from those that utilize it successfully.
A2- I learn a lot of "new" edtech skills from our students. Kids are natural risk takers w/ tech so they model really well!
A2 , how do I learn thee? Let me count the ways.. , twitter. Being mindful mostly.
A2 I find ways to solve problems or improve my practice then learn and use the tech
A2 - I learn new things by visiting lots of classrooms. Amazing teacher tech innovators/users in
A2
2 main ways I learn new :
1. Reading / researching on
2. Try, fail, try again, learn, try something new
A2- I also talk to my colleagues often and they always have good suggestions for new tech tools to try out.
A2 Often the best way to learn about new is from my colleagues and Ss themselves!
A2 I pick up tech skills via PD offered by district, webinars, Twitter, Voxer and word of mouth.
A2: My amazing PLN on Twitter is where I learn skills
A2 It took me a class to be open about learning tech. There was so much I didn't know & Twitter has helped me along the way
A2: colleagues, Ss, EdCamps, Twitter chats, PD, independent exploring! Wherever I am! Learning on my own is huge! Need to fail!
A2 Students, EdCamps, Twitter, on line webinars, podcasts, colleagues next door and on line.
A2: Lifelong learning. I connect with my PLN, my students & my friends outside of education. Always keep learning.
A2 I'm learning that developing a PLN thought Twitter is a huge help!
Good morning then. 9:47pm here
A2 Mostly self taught. Eventually found some good blogs, Twitter, etc. Not much support in my district
A2: Twitter is my go-to! I also use MOOC's, Pinterest, Fav. blogs by using BlogLovin. Working on L2 Google Cert. now.
A2. As admin, I have found that the more you allow Ts to learn from colleagues, the better the result. Have to have right climate
A2: These days, mostly from Twitter! Or colleagues
A2:many times,I will ask a few Ss that I know are very tech savvy. I have them help other Ss in class since they know more than me.
A2 From the kiddoes. If we tap into what they use it's relational & connective. & if Ss are comfy w/it focus is on content vs tech.
A2 I learn from my PLN, F2F with colleagues and conferences, and I READ great books like
can't wait to check it out, thanks!
A2: EdCamps are great places for educators to learn new skills. Low pressure and lots of 1-on-1 time with great educators
This can help overcome the "my way" paradigm!
A2 Twitter, edcamps, and conferences and f2f conversations are the best way.
A2: Twitter of course! This has been one of the most valuable /PD tools at my fingertips.
A2: from my PLNs like this oneš, liked minded educators in my bldg/district, social media in general, ISTE!
A1) I wonder about WHY with them- what are you wrestling with in your classroom? What's working, what's not, and why?
YES!! Also, when you see a group of Ss working on a project and you stop to talk with them! Can learn so much
A2: Word of mouth & seeking out information from outlier sources.
A2) Hi Good Morning, Spiri in NC, I like to browse EdShelf, see what's out there, I enjoy adventures in tech
A2: as an I have a global PLN of innovators like who inspire me 2 try new ideas
I always keep my eyes open when students use an app, website etc... that is new to me, have gotten some great resources
: from my PLN on Twitter, from my own research, & trial & error. I'm quite motivated!
A2: Twitter/Google/Colleagues/PD. I wish more choice/hands-on/playground/short sessions were standard. Learn new & move on.
A2: I ask the students! They have taught me a lot over the years!
A2 Funny thing.. being I'm not a K-12 educator a lot of what I learn from Ts isn't always directly applicable.. gotta play with it
help me understand the āmy wayā paradigm?
A2: I learn about new tools in spaces like Twitter and Facebook, and by reading blog posts
Good morning all. 9-12 ELA teacher in CT here. A1 encourage fearless tinkering. The interwebs doesn't have to be intimidating
A2) State tech conference , edcamps, unconferences, seek out workshops; blogs; twitter
The best teachers help other teachers. They don't selfishly keep good ideas to themselves.
A2: I forgot my PLN and YouTube.
A2- Same resources as others, plus we have a talented, resourceful sharing staff and tech guy.
Yes. They quit before they see it work and tell others it didn't work. Want to make sure experience Is positive
A1: I learn from either PD events or by simply asking around with our IT or Tech directors!
A2: Start with conversations. I learn a ton of new tech tools through convos with other leaders.
I couldn't agree more. And, my students love teaching and showing me what they know!
A2 And the Ss. My head nearly exploded the first time I saw Ss working on a shared
A2: I also ask my 16 year old daughters, but I can't keep up with Snapchatš± But some wise Ts are using that in their classrooms!
A2 Different forums are referenced on the many edchat I participate. I tag the ideas and play around at my own convenience.
A2 Be willing to spend the time researching and trying things out. Twitter, blogs, youtube, webinars, and experimenting.
Absolutely! They are my go-to experts š https://t.co/BNTpzVSFv9
A2- I learn a lot of "new" edtech skills from our students. Kids are natural risk takers w/ tech so they model really well!
How to learn new skills try, fail, try again, fail, try again, learn - repeat
Love this! https://t.co/cmCYmWNSjN
A2
2 main ways I learn new :
1. Reading / researching on
2. Try, fail, try again, learn, try something new
A1 or what tech is provided is often not up to it - slow & non-intuitive to both Ts & Ss
A2: I learn from students, teachers, administrators & Twitter
A2: Twitter, , webinars! We will soon have a gr8 event about tech intgrtn -unconference- will keynote it!
A2: I learn about online, with peers or at workshops such as PDWs
....... Learning new tech involves two things....1) connecting (Twitter, etc) and 2) implementing (experiences to test & explore)
A3 I've use resources like to help with behavior management by the class. Next 1 to try is
A2 Most of what I know today, comes from Twitter. W/o it, I would be lost in this new era. Much needed!
I know that same story. Wasted $ right there! š«
I love this!! Be WILLING to SPEND the TIME! Yes! I didn't learn anything over night! https://t.co/gH3BkhXVcx
A2 Be willing to spend the time researching and trying things out. Twitter, blogs, youtube, webinars, and experimenting.
Yes! Read this summer. Big help!! https://t.co/of51VFbR1u
A2 I learn from my PLN, F2F with colleagues and conferences, and I READ great books like
A2.2: Big fan of college classes and programs. I learned a ton from some great profs. who were darn good at the ED. business..
Ts are learning alongside their Ss, embracing new tech; great way to connect w others globally https://t.co/otSZXGXNd5
Love this Valerie. Let's empower Ss to share & teach. We aren't the only ones with the keys to knowledge! https://t.co/cHxsM08f6m
A2 From the kiddoes. If we tap into what they use it's relational & connective. & if Ss are comfy w/it focus is on content vs tech.
A2. Conferences have been invaluable to witness modeling in action on new technology. Great to see educators vet new products.
A2: I think exploring new tools helps in experiencing some failure and also gives you an opportunity to learn with others.
A2: Don't you enjoy the moment you try something new and go, "I didn't know it could do that!"?
If so, share what you learned
A2: learn a lot from Twitter, PLN, and the GAFE summit I attended
A2: Peers, Twitter, Blogs, Conferences, Trial and Error, My Husband
Great idea! Then Ts know they have more than just 1 T to help them. Different content examples t use.
A3: Iām a huge fan of for classroom management. Like any tool its all in how you use it.
Exactly! Ecldxamps are a great place to network and learn about new tools of the trade https://t.co/MY6Hnn3tsC
A2: Twitter, , webinars! We will soon have a gr8 event about tech intgrtn -unconference- will keynote it!
A2: Developing skills via my Twitter ...such knowledgable and innovative educators who openly share! Better together!
Being playful with ideas does it for me. Like when intro'd me to Plotagon. How might I use with doctors?
A2: Anyone else notice the irony when working w/ some that they need more time to learn, but expect their Ss to learn overnight?
A3- I went to an amazing session at the Tomorrow's Classrooms Today conference about 150 apps & tools. Still sifting through them!
A2- It pays to be curious. Just have to jump in and start doing it after seeing or reading about new skills or products.
A2: The best way to learn new tech is by asking good questions - starting with How might I do...
Yes, self-directed learning can be time intensive, but that's how I tend to learn the most.
A3 have S's fully engaged and class management won't be an issue.
A3 with standards embedded vs student management, running backchannels, using tech to keep engagement high

A2: Tech skills are the easy part implementing taking more practice.
Yes ! Making time to TINKER with new tech products important!
A3 Like us, when Ss can get lost down a rabbit hole from one topic to the next, and there is value in allowing them to explore
I love this too! https://t.co/covozWfTpK
A2 Be willing to spend the time researching and trying things out. Twitter, blogs, youtube, webinars, and experimenting.
Q3: resources help with classroom management. How have you used edtech to manage your classroom?
A3:When I had classes as a media spec. I used Edmodo in my classes. Providing lessons and op to earn badges.
Thanks for the recommendations! I'm a big Trello fan & need to add more.
Love this... Far less intimidating when boiled down to two steps. https://t.co/0OYjgciLAo
....... Learning new tech involves two things....1) connecting (Twitter, etc) and 2) implementing (experiences to test & explore)
A1. Edcamp model for PD. Ts learn what they want to from other Ts and no pressure is involved
I can be one of those who are overwhelmed! I need 1 at a time. LOL
Twitter gives educators an amazing way to gather ideas, share & be inspired ... and at any time, too!
A3 helps me keep students engaged, when Ss are engaged, classroom mangamnet takes care of itself!
Love using all these apps! Its awesome to extend learning beyond the classroom. https://t.co/6s5i8Yo6m5
A3: Some great resources for classroom management and are - help with parental engagement
A3: In our district, like Google Classroom has helped Ts to manage their classrooms and organize assignments & resources

A3. Have to train Ts in sound management strategies and then use tech to enhance them.
How did the students react to earning badges?
What grades?
https://t.co/t477hc06Hn
A3:When I had classes as a media spec. I used Edmodo in my classes. Providing lessons and op to earn badges.
I don't quite learn at the speed everyone else does. I am always a little behind it seems.....
This! https://t.co/NIHU1UyT9X
A3 helps me keep students engaged, when Ss are engaged, classroom mangamnet takes care of itself!
A3 When resources are used appropriately students are engaged and management is less of an issue
A3: I'm curious about this too because I don't like public classroom management. https://t.co/e0MQfaS9ch
Q3: resources help with classroom management. How have you used edtech to manage your classroom?
Good point! I was wondering in what ways do I use for classroom management! This is true. https://t.co/WZDxJEKPcE
A3 helps me keep students engaged, when Ss are engaged, classroom mangamnet takes care of itself!
A3- during reading/writing time, Ss ask a ? on Google sheets. Another S can then type in suggestions or I can go over and help.
A3: has been helpful-Ss love hearing the sound effects! Ss love to post their learning to share with parents
A2: self-directed learning and research. Online communities for fine-tuning before rolling out to colleagues the 1st time.
A3: has been a game-changer in terms of classroom management. and various apps and extensions
A3 Chromebooks & Google Classroom this September ~ as paperless as possible! Chromebooks not touch screen - suggs. for computation?
Yes, when Ss are fully engaged, it's not work anymore - it's a really cool project they're working on together!
A3: (cont) When these are in place, classroom management is not an issue. Build a community of excited & engaged students!
One thing I hope to do betterr this year is to keep up with my blog to show succes/failures of things I try.
A3 I waver on the notion of Edtech as classroom management. I like the human element. I use Edmodo but it's blended use.
A3a Whatās , really? Itās not always about powered devices. It can be empowering others with knowledge..+
A2: Twitter, blogs, book, Ts, Ss, PD opportunities. Easy to be overwhelmed, focus on one thing at a time https://t.co/LYPQaPVV6m
Q2: As an educator where / how do you learn new skills?
#2 Is it sad that no one mentioned higher Edu courses? Still too many professors that resort to old ways.
A3: I use to communicate with parents - last year we used to communicate with grade level team
Agree 100% Great reminder! https://t.co/azb3QSZ8HQ
A3 When resources are used appropriately students are engaged and management is less of an issue
A3: Love Daily 5. Helped set structure/management in class. & good resources.
A3: Engaged Ss are the key. Using edtech has helped me providing my Ss a variety of avenues to learn w/ a couple clicks.
A3. I use for communication tools which leads to management, when we are all on the same page.
A3 When you use edtech in a way that empowers Ss, it automatically affects management. Less behaviors when there's more engagement
Keep your eyes peeled, Iām sure there is one in your region.
https://t.co/t7AGQMoQ5Z
I'd love to take part in an before I retire. I'm in Ontario.
A2: Who do you discuss new ideas with? Where do you find sounding boards for productive discussion?
Me too! https://t.co/ZkgC0eYQK6
I don't quite learn at the speed everyone else does. I am always a little behind it seems.....
A3: I'm out if the classroom per se, but see my Ts use tech to mange by making it part of a routine they are excited to start with.
I use badges on too They love them! Next year I'll have them create their own w/Google Drawings
Some better attended than others, but didn't get hung up on numbers; where some gather use grows
This question is not about behavior it's about efficiency and collaboration
A3 my main focus is building my capacity with GAFE and Google Classroom to use it for more. I use it for assignments & announcement
A3: Hoping to explore , , this year.
I have concerns about EdTech being used in the same way as the red light/green light system. Public humiliation of kids isn't ok!
Me too. We just need to keep practicing until we become more proficient. We are smart cookies. It'll come.
A3: I've used in the past and use but good classroom management does not require
how's badging going for students? I have a group of teachers starting this year
Great resource
https://t.co/jRVTOmIMyF
A3: I use to communicate with parents - last year we used to communicate with grade level team
Give Ss time to think and explore https://t.co/eiVYmwolMv
A3 Like us, when Ss can get lost down a rabbit hole from one topic to the next, and there is value in allowing them to explore
A3 class Dojo. S earn points and they love it. Ps can see S behavior and progress as well. Printable reports and P interaction
BUT you keep at it and that is what is important - sad when many Ts give up because of frustration
A3- we have Hapara& we can see EVERYTHING on a S's Google account.ALL emails, docs, current website they are on. We can X out of tabs
Signing off thx done with 43 credits towards doctorate have to write an ethics paper now
I'm currently looking for a few good podcasts on this topic to share with principals ... Any suggestions? https://t.co/KPtEiAowdx
A2- I'm always looking up new websites, platforms, apps, etc. (finding them on Twitter or Pinterest) and then exploring them!
A3b Early things learned from were making learning visible, PBL & flipping. Get learners moving, (butts-out-of-seats)
A3: I'm a TA & used edtech to strengthen communication w/Teacher partners ~nothing like forms to deliver synchronous progress info
A3: Some schools rely too much on extrinsic rewards to keep kids motivated. When tech is integrated, it becomes almost unnecessary.
Just realized that. My bad https://t.co/31Xg1o150D
This question is not about behavior it's about efficiency and collaboration
thanks! We will keep focused!
A3: Not so much used to manage but to engage. and I just used as many new platforms as possible w/
...and guiding their owm learning. This also helps with time mangament!
A3 Funny. I use Remind. Don't even recognize my own Edtech use! š I blog. I don't like behavior mngmt thru tech. Personal pref.
I love the idea of using how do you manage the time it takes?
Tbh, I haven't yet. I've been asking others abt class Dojo & get mixed reviews. What about you? https://t.co/bNf0I6PJ9B
Q3: resources help with classroom management. How have you used edtech to manage your classroom?
I don't know of any podcasts, I'm sorry! This was just my strategy in my classroom.
A3: was great for me. It has helped me to build that home-school connection.
A3c So more often than not I engage learners with a story (clinicians call āem ācase studies) and have them work collaboratively..
Yes! Thank you! This is crucial. Otherwise we are creating Pavlov's dogs. https://t.co/gnsP8lOIuo
A3. Have to train Ts in sound management strategies and then use tech to enhance them.
A4: I know that they're people that do my job better than I do, so I follow them on Twitter and bounce ideas off them
Looks like added more student features, but I haven't explored yet for next year.
A3 helps tons w/ workflow. I also use for communication. Engagements helps w/ management, but need the personal
A3: Efficiency part of it is key. I can focus on helping the Ss more when I use edtech. Makes searching for content so much easier.
A3: Previously used for 2nd grade but will use as I move to Kindergarten. Accountability in workstations
Hey wait! I just did! You don't get alerts when I tweet about stuff Glenn?! Ha!
A3: Tech used to provide practice on skills , create and Blox 3D , share Twitter, connect Skype, GHO.
A3d No two learners are alike. They work it with what they have in their pockets. Peers learning while doing, watching, sharing..
I agree 100%! Intrinsic motivation is the way to go!
A3) I've used Remind app, also ClassDojo, excited to use Classroom app for iPad soon, it's a MDM solution
I'm well. Are you gearing up for first grade? https://t.co/PbSBt3OsbG
Hey Christina! All is well! Busy summer! How are you?
I've used and it worked out quite well, easy for Ts and Ss to integrate into course
I think apps like still allow us to measure and track engagement to celebrate the learning
I like human public management. Relationships. Not points or creatures.
A2. Main resource is Twitter but also blogs and
Anyone have any suggestions for what/how to use badges for teachers digitally?
Q4: Social Media has changed access to Ed resources & other educators. How are you using it? How can other educators use it?
A2: My colleagues-many in house experts, conferences/ edcamps- of course Twitter. Lucky to be in a job where most want to share
I think you have to make it your own and really push the parent connection piece.
A3 S's benefit too! Supplement notes shared via Google Slides, classroom vids embed, links to interactive sites extends classroom
Really keep it to 1/2 hour; often those who showed up did share w/others who didn't so word spreads, too.
A4: Leverage social media to connect students with experts. Show them the power of the PLN and now.
Good question-looking forward to responses. https://t.co/VliZSkTD7j

A4. I use it to connect with other Ts so I can connect to other classrooms. I gain lesson ideas from other Ts through social media.
Good resource I worry about Dojo as "binging" sts when they are doing right/wrong. You can foster self-monitoring w/o.
Playgrounds/poster sessions= fluid, Ts coming/going. No need to hold Ts captive for an hour if they don't need it!
A4 I mostly use Twitter as a PLN building resource although I know there are others like Voxer. All teachers should be connected
For sure...always good to have those tools in the tool belt! Not everyday is flowers and puppies! ;-)
Love the idea of having accountability in workstations using technology! is a great tool for that!
Morning! How was the conference?
A3 Idle minds aren't learning..
I agree. This does nothing & is humiliating. I still remember the ONE time in 6th grade when I was in the yellow zone
very true, Mary. We need to pick each other up.

A4: using SM to showcase what is going on in my class and expose Ss to a global world. Also using to learn from great educators

A6: The videos were helpful for a few Algebra Ss that were reluctant to ask Qs during class.
A6: Have to agree with others...Twitter development has inspired innovation for me! š
Why is it that podcasts never exploded the way we though they would? YouTube? Limited audience?

A6- no more flash cards for fact practice. Have you ever tried out Xtra Math? It's like a game!
A6 I don't see any of it as that innovative. has just changed what I do. But my Ss loved making podcasts this year.
It's the mindset. is so fresh and he's already connecting it to school. That is legit.
If we video record a lecture, isn't that just "S" on the SAMR? How does digitizing a lecture make it more engaging?
The app allows you to take a pic that serves as a "trigger" to launch a video. iPads scan the pics.

if a T is doing "fresh" but in reality is just doing old things in new ways, does that matter?
A6 It hasn't been about the EDTECH tool. It's always been about the relationships the tool has helped us build.
A6: I think it is to allow my Ss to send me back their work by email or ask them to make videos or trailers to assess them
I'll have to check that out! Thanks! https://t.co/V6xc0RA0ag
