Hello Everyone! Christian! Instr. Tech Coach/Co-teacher. Ready to learn from y’all and excited.
lol I hate that drive. esp going leaving on a friday to come back by Sun. Jesus by a Fence!
where did you get your cute avatar?
A1: Since I don't have a school, I get a taste of from all of my peeps!
a1: yes. I think many people though get STEM and Science confused!
Kathleen from Hillside checking in
no, I don't know how that is... It's been a long time for many of us! LOL.
We have a great STEM program built into our amazing technology and innovation lab through our IB program
A1. I don't think we have a specific STEM prg, but 2 members & Tech Club count
Abbotts Hill is a SEM school, but STEM can easily be part of the process.
A1:I’ve seen outstanding class lesson but look forward to a collective school effort in the future.
- But you're the T for them, right??
Im curious 2 see how IB looks n ES.I did ST n City Schools of Decatur.4/5 Academy does IB.K-3 does Exp. Learning
A1 has a STEM lab that our Ss visit 2x a month. Started w/ lego curriculum, has definitely expanded
STEM can be done many ways! A club is a great start what happens in Tech club? https://t.co/DzFfwDyJte
A1. I don't think we have a specific STEM prg, but 2 members & Tech Club count
One of them. I'm trying to recruit more.
Is the school planning a collective effort? Or are you lifting them up yourself?
A1 Love seeing the STEM integration pulled into PBL. So easily done at any level…ES MS HS!
- I agree. and are a beautiful educational marriage.
That's how we implement a lot of our integration.
Tech Clubs aka Innovation camps :)
Just another word for "MakerSpace"
It is a beautiful thing to have seamless integration of STEM and PBL
I'll be seeing you soon enough and I'll pry it out of you! I want to be part of the cute avatar club too.
I also like adding in the Design Thinking process with my students!
- Bahahaha! I will break eventually! :)
a2: Ss rotate every other week btwn the STEM Lab and the Literacy Lab in our building. I manage the Lit. Lab.
A2: developing toward PBL
STEM is actually interdisciplinary at many of the schools I have observed.
I'm not 2 familiar with the primary years program, but I know high point elem is involved if you know anyone there
We currently have SEM day one day a week whole school for an hour. Students choose cluster to attend. Lots of STEM activities
A2. Since left, STEM is MinuteMath, Tech Club, & garden.
How was your experience with this at first?
A2 Ss rotate between STEM lab, media center and guidance. Mr. M & I coordinate some things, also work w/ PLC's
what would you say is an important element in pulling that off?
Awesome! The Ss love it and so do the Ts. Gives more choice and flexibility than regular classroom.
I know of it 2 some extent. Almost did it as a magnet n HS.Went w the Honors Mag at the HS I grad from https://t.co/Ide52HR25I
Lots of American Schools on the international circuit use the IB/MYP/PYP. Don’t know if that helps though.
I was ready for this question
- I like this one! has a great opportunity to support the T for schools!
a3: I see kids using the tech to help them problem solve. like figuring out the design to code w Ozobots
catching your teachers during PLC is an awesome time to get STEM awareness out there Great Work!
Endicott here ready to add the "A" input for STEAM. :) music T!
A3: be present and open to be a part of cross-curricular discussions during planning
a3: I want to see them communicate there learning w what they are building/creating
A3 Understand the true implementation of it first. Then coach teachers to move toward that integration.
While working in schools around FC I have seen amazing work both in PBL and STEM
A2: Shana from Gwinnett, popping in..it is a connections class for all grades currently. 1st year that way
Q3: Show off/share our natural everyday STEM efforts we participate in
That is awesome! I love that you mentioned "Problem Solving" can we have STEM without those 21st century skills?
A3 Ts teach specific content, so it's easy to catch Sci Ts. Luckily, it's a 2 way street, bounce ideas around
just realized I typed the wrong homonym when typing too quickly…their
I agree! Great point!
https://t.co/BOxJyk3ORA
A3: be present and open to be a part of cross-curricular discussions during planning
our stem kids just got the A with a trip to the High in how Art integrates with design
Just remember - they have to attend or no stopping by for "leftovers"
I'm still working on getting Ts to use technology. It's working. More Ts checking out equipment.
No! It’s low level work w/o. STEAM requires thinking and creativity and integration.
I like to integrate STEM into our TAG PBL units. You can see the critical thinking in action. Any favorite lessons?
- Baby steps are still steps in the right direction!
Powerful things happen with our students when we allow this! I know you have great experiences
A3: Persistence and being patient. Empower Ts and value their time when you meet with them. Allow them time to tinker
That article I just posted spoke about that as well and used Leonardo D. as an example. https://t.co/aIDVBbx0DJ
No! It’s low level work w/o. STEAM requires thinking and creativity and integration.
- Very cool way to look at a cell! Love that!
That should be a poster or a T-shirt!! I love it
A3: Authentic learning. In music I teach them how to create music to add to presentations w/o "stealing"!
yes! but not necessarily with S or E completely. W T and M yes! I try to focus more on the humanities
have you tried leap motion ? It's really cool for augmented reality
A3- really does a great job when they practice what they preach! Ts need to see to do.
but I have done a few STEM related things n my room. Also just ordered STEM related things 4 Ss w Vanguard funds
What cool STEM resources do you use with you math teachers?
A4. Need Vanguard members to kickstart it. IMO
Go Chanel!!!! You are great!
A4 Ts must be interested in a STEM program
a4: I think a workshop/PD in letting Ts experience a true STEM lesson for themselves.
Great STEM conference is , first week in March come join us
What type of resources did you purchase? Always looking for good ideas.
A4: what about Teacher Buy-In Can?
A4 communication , communication, communication
- Good thing we have so many great ones in our schools!
A definition for your school. Goals to accomplish and ways to provide support to assist Ts in the transformation.
Saw a cool math science lesson using coordinate grids and circuits. They had to make a dance revolution mat!
A4 a good professional development team
A4: What about teacher buy-in can STEM work without the Buy-in?
A4: Majority of Ts on board. Thorough PD & resources provided to Ts. Ps support. Various type of equipment/tools for Ss to use
A4: a vision and consistent language that can be used to communicate with your community
love the model in PD idea!
A4 - 2 Admin must want STEM/ STEAM prg. Then Ts, Ss, Ps, and Community should demand it.
I really read more about BreakoutEdu and get teachers to go a session w one!
A4: Collaboration remember the driving force is STEM Careers
Nothing work without teacher buy-in!
Where's ? He probably knows about tons of gadgets!
There's and another cool avatar!
A4: I would also think PD would allow them to create a model lesson they can test out on Ss or fellow colleagues
YES!! That is super important. we all must be on the same page https://t.co/q36B4PfhtS
A4: a vision and consistent language that can be used to communicate with your community
I am putting gifs into Voxer :)
I have OZOBOTs, but my Ss have a difficult time with them.
We are thankful for the Vanguard Funds Gives us a chance to discover what goodies are out there
- If that's true, then I'm plotting my revenge.
haha I knew you were sitting back creeping on the feed! you probably have your tweetdeck right now!
Should I change my avatar to my super cool music pic? ;) (It is SUPER cute)
I know is using Ozobots in her school and I was going to ask her help for guidance on troubleshooting
There must be buy-in from the staff and a clear plan of implementation. The "why" of stem should be expressed
Praise God for it! https://t.co/EJPsEPJVyp
We are thankful for the Vanguard Funds Gives us a chance to discover what goodies are out there
That is a good point! I am wondering how we could get them interested! our kids need it
Part of being on should be a really cool avatar package! ;)
Very True! Possibly some follow up workshops so they can constantly build!
let it constantly be modeled so mindsets can change
OOOH Please share it! That sounds like fun!
A4 another thought, seeing folks in STEM field on Career Day gets Ss interested in learning more. Artists on Artist Day.
nope not a creeper wasn't even on till heather dinged my Apple Watch
Win them over. Show them success stories. High quality PL. Observe it in action.
I wonder how BreakoutEdu would work for a team building exercise w Vanguard
- Those are too darn cute! We need them as a giveaway for !
Come on and tell us some of those cool resources that are out there!!
Communicate the message that "this is real", be committed to development.
speaker opportunities in Metro Atlanta
EPA-energy lesson; GAtech students-engineering process; Rangers at CHAT NP biomimicry
One resource I really like is this resources provides the PBL and interdisciplinary lessons all in one
A4: I think a sense of student wonder and exploration needs to be present to really make STEM work
I really need to put some sort of alarm or schedule in my phone to remember the chats on Thursday smh
- I emailed this time! I think it helped get some folks! :)
Yeah. I am not going to lie. Over the past two weeks, I have been sending Calendar reminders to staff.
A5: Could I use or other apps to promote higher order thinking?
has been changing my life. Jesus be a fence!
- That expression is cracking me up!
A5: problem solving skills are developed by consistently using HOTS.
Study selling techniques and practice the Pixar pitch. People don't "buy" what you are selling but "why"
now you're just rubbing it in by changing back to your cute avatar!
A5. Our sch is not 1:1 or students using yet. I teach - take control & have papers, PPT turned in easily.
A5: Have them build something and text it could work well for that
You can even use One Note and Microsoft apps
This chat blew up my Tweet deck. Too much of a good thing... Had to switch to my phone. 😜
I saw the email and next thing I knew it was 8:10 haha
I have never heard it before. What does it even mean? Lol. https://t.co/gXdxoA01QA
- That expression is cracking me up!
Yes We are really getting into Office 365! I would love for Office 365 to have something like google forms!
Wanna have some fun? Everyone send a Voxer gif...go! just remember it's the gif that keeps on giving :)
it does though. In excel. You can create your own surveys and stuff in it. Very nice tool! https://t.co/Nh3HOQYFyf
Yes We are really getting into Office 365! I would love for Office 365 to have something like google forms!
- But are they really as cute? :)
That is cool! is this similar to BREAK OUT EDU? I just ordered my kit we are breaking out in STEM real soon
A6: Make learning all about the creation. What can they create to show learning?
OOOH! I am looking this up real real real soon have you used this for your students?
A6 had a blast before winter break w/ maker activities. Ss really had to think through problem
Are you viewing the chat through ?
A5 many times it's not the app but how it's use that makes it higher level
Oh yes! We preached this at our app-smashing presentation!! https://t.co/22iqtb7B4U
A5 many times it's not the app but how it's use that makes it higher level
I collaborate w/ 4th gr Ts & have Ss create an instrument that changes pitch & amplitude & present/perform for an audience.
That is a great point taking what we learned and creating something. that sure changes the way we grade
A6: There are SO many apps to suggest, but it really is more about what the student creates on it that matters
- You're right. It's cute! :)
OOH I have a 5 year old and 2 year old twins! I am going to try it on them! Thanks for the share
A6: providing students a safe environment to take risks and fail also fosters creativity
A6: It's about getting the students to struggle and works through it, to be curious.
A6 Set the stage for open ended learning/PBL. Ss do the work. Probing ?s for Ss.
100%! And I model that myself daily. :) https://t.co/X2I3TWrFr0
A6: providing students a safe environment to take risks and fail also fosters creativity
Yes. I also believe we have to encourage our kids to wonder and explore. we have to get them to that point.
my son is having a Lego robots birthday party this year. I can't wait!
by scaffolding this for them, they will run with it!
A6: It having students understand that problems aren't solved in 1 class period.
Thanks for the Convo - Homework calls!
We have these too! The kids love them!
Yes I loved your ! we learn from our failures, but that word is so scary for our students
A6: I love the idea of asking, "What problem can they sovle?"
A7 take the first step and hope everyone follows you :-)
The struggle is real!! I agree we have to let them work through it
Very true! let the kids do the work! STEM really does promote that!
If only all Ts asked that question of their Ss. How different the classroom would be! https://t.co/yl3Lq5XVqd
A6: I love the idea of asking, "What problem can they sovle?"
OOH That is a good idea!!!
