A1: IMO it's teaching INSIDE the box that's difficult. In Israel the education system is really centralized and the MOE has full control. Very little autonomy for the T. #dojochat

  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:32 PM EDT
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:33 PM EDT
Q4 for #dojochat your Classroom environment plays a big part when teaching outside of the box! It must be a safe environment that allows them to feel safe to take risks, make mistakes and have fun. It also must be one where expectations are set and consistency is key!
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:33 PM EDT
#dojochat here is my room set up as a learning safari!
  • ConnorHumphre13 May 2 @ 7:33 PM EDT
Environment is huge, in order to get out of the box ideas, there first must be an environment where creativity is celebrated and encouraged #dojochat
  • ClassDojo - Moderator May 2 @ 7:33 PM EDT
    Q4 is up #dojochat!
  • CaitClassDojo May 2 @ 7:33 PM EDT

  • missfox231 May 2 @ 7:35 PM EDT
A4 environment is huge for thinking outside the box .. have to be willing to change when things don’t work. Change to the task. I use flex seating, too! #dojochat
  • teaching_power May 2 @ 7:36 PM EDT
A4) Ss have to have a good relationship & understand classroom expectations to feel comfortable to do crazy or different things. I think it also helps the Ts feel more comfortable to try new & different types of lessons if they have already built a relationship. #dojochat
  • supervxn May 2 @ 7:36 PM EDT
I'm a TLDR person myself. Just scroll to the bottom line. (pun intended) #dojochat

A4: Is this a trick Q? If your school culture doesn't allow it, no one is coming out of the box. #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:38 PM EDT
Teaching outside of the box gives your students the opportunity to engage with the material! Therefore they learn more and internalize it!! #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:40 PM EDT
    Q5 for #dojochat
  • jenn2po May 2 @ 7:40 PM EDT
A4 I try my best to create a classroom environment where effort and personality are noticed and welcomed, where mistakes are safe starting places, where difference is celebrated, and where there is space to change. #dojochat
  • ClassDojo - Moderator May 2 @ 7:40 PM EDT
    Q5 with 20 minutes to go #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:40 PM EDT
I think it depends on the reason why school culture doesn’t allow it! Is it the culture because of administrators and the curriculum or is it the culture of teachers who do not want to put forth the effort to try new things or try novelty #dojochat
    • supervxn May 2 @ 7:38 PM EDT
A4: Is this a trick Q? If your school culture doesn't allow it, no one is coming out of the box. #dojochat

Q4 for #dojochat collaborate and support! Share share share! But don’t compare or make undesirable comments when others try this! It is intimidating to try new things! We should be encouraging each other!!
  • CaitClassDojo May 2 @ 7:41 PM EDT
A5 I think it's important to be bold and share new ideas. To offer up support and take moments to chat/collaborate even with teachers who are resistant to newness/change #dojochat
  • missfox231 May 2 @ 7:41 PM EDT
A5 share your ideas openly and willingly! We have a school hashtag on twitter where we can post awesome things our classes do! #dojochat
  • ConnorHumphre13 May 2 @ 7:41 PM EDT

I love your responses to question 5! Sharing is so important! Collaboration and encouragement!!!! #dojochat
  • teaching_power May 2 @ 7:45 PM EDT
A5) It starts with stepping outside of your own, planning things together, helping those who want to try something but don't know where to start and applauding those who take those risks regardless of the results. #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:45 PM EDT
    Yes! Great thought!!! #dojochat

    Q6 for #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:49 PM EDT
Q6 #dojochat teaching outside of the box just means to add engagement and to add handson! It is as simple as adding a tablecloth and some props! Take your curriculum and find where this can be best used to enhance it!
  • varkgirl May 2 @ 7:49 PM EDT
A5 - we have a team OneNote notebook where we share ideas/collaborate/long range planning etc. #dojochat
  • ConnorHumphre13 May 2 @ 7:49 PM EDT
While you may not be able to control what the curriculum is, you can control the way its presented and the tools you use. Presenting it in an interesting way is up to the teacher! #dojochat
  • ClassDojo - Moderator May 2 @ 7:49 PM EDT
Q6 #dojochat... because we've all had that scripted curriculum and an observation where we're supposed to turn it into "distinguished"
  • varkgirl May 2 @ 7:50 PM EDT
A6 - allow lots of partner/group work, create my own/find TPT related stuff to cover the same curriculum #dojochat
  • supervxn May 2 @ 7:50 PM EDT
A6: I use #minecraftedu for my science lesson. Now with the chemistry update it rocks! @PlayCraftLearn https://t.co/zLG9wWF0lP #dojochat
  • missfox231 May 2 @ 7:51 PM EDT
A6 supplement with visuals, hand motions, pre teaching of your own ideas, share stories- anything! In special education, sometimes scripted programs are exactly what we need and other times it’s the opposite so we have to be prepared for anything! #dojochat
  • jenn2po May 2 @ 7:52 PM EDT
A5 I look for what they are doing well and point it out. People take risks when they are admired. #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:54 PM EDT

  • ClassDojo - Moderator May 2 @ 7:54 PM EDT
A bit of reflection for our final Q of the night #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:54 PM EDT
    This sounds interesting!!! #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:55 PM EDT
Last question in #dojochat my students are so engaged and excited that they learn the skills so much more! This helps them internalize the skills! THey are learning so much more and I am saving trees in the process!! It is a win win
  • katietrivett611 May 2 @ 7:55 PM EDT
A6: Incorporating fun hands on activities is a big part in making scripted curriculum more enjoyable for everyone! #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:55 PM EDT
    Amen!!!!!!!!! #dojochat
    • ConnorHumphre13 May 2 @ 7:49 PM EDT

  • ConnorHumphre13 May 2 @ 7:55 PM EDT
There is no one set formula to get students to engage in material, the key is creating an environment where it is acceptable to, and encouraged #dojochat
  • CaitClassDojo May 2 @ 7:56 PM EDT
A6 Be flexible. The more rigid I was and tried to stick to a lesson plan, the faster it would spiral. Let students lead, listen, and they will be engaged. #dojochat
  • kindergatorss May 2 @ 7:57 PM EDT
The theme tonight seems to be environment is key!!! Yes!!!!! Collaboration!!!! Yes!!!!! Sharing!!!! Yes!!!!!!! Amazing chat!!!! Loved all of your thoughts!!! #dojochat

A7: designing my #gbl Space Adventure makes me more and more confident that learning can't occur if Ss aren't engaged. #dojochat
