#TECHtalkGA Q2: On Weds 11.07.18, @gabolhuis leads a session all about building your PLN & promoting school programming (Germ 1-2, 4:30p). Why is it important to network with others in similar fields, even though they're not always the same?

  • readmakelearn Oct 22 @ 9:06 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A2: You should always network with others in similar fields to learn from one another. I can't count the number of times I've been inspired to try something new or tweak something I've been doing.
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:06 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A2: I feel like we all have SO MUCH to learn from each other! Even if we're in different fields, I can learn *something* from everyone! And I *adore* @gabolhuis, so I will do all I can to make it to her session!
    • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:04 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q2: On Weds 11.07.18, @gabolhuis leads a session all about building your PLN & promoting school programming (Germ 1-2, 4:30p). Why is it important to network with others in similar fields, even though they're not always the same?
  • RhondaStroud9 Oct 22 @ 9:06 PM EDT
A2: For me growing my #PLN was the best decision I’ve made professionally. It helped me feel less lonely at times when it seemed like I was deserted by everything. #TECHtalkGA
  • lwilban Oct 22 @ 9:07 PM EDT
A2: I think it is so important to network with others even if they do not do exactly what we do. It's a great way to get new ideas and maybe refine what we are doing. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Oct 22 @ 9:07 PM EDT
A2. My #PLN inspires me to try new things. Plus, I always feel like I'm running to catch up. #TECHtalkGA
  • mlibber Oct 22 @ 9:08 PM EDT
A1: Libby Miller, Savannah-Chatham Instructional Technology Coach. I love learning and sharing with our LMTSs. They are our first line of contact at many schools. #TECHtalkGA
  • DeborahHuggard Oct 22 @ 9:08 PM EDT
A2: there's a lot of crossed and shared roles and they are in a constant state of change. Talking to others keeps you from getting stuck in"one way" to do what you do. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:09 PM EDT
Our jobs can DEFINITELY be lonely! It's important to make connections whenever...wherever! #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @RhondaStroud9
  • LintheLibrary Oct 22 @ 9:09 PM EDT
A2: Networking is key to representing and keeping our profession alive. It also provides much needed inspiration!! #techtalkga
  • jklcassidy Oct 22 @ 9:09 PM EDT
A2: we have to network to continue to grow professionally. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:10 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q3: Also on Weds, @drbooklady presents a session on digital tools for giving Ss feedback (Marriott E, 3:15p). How do you make it clear to those in your bldg that your expertise has a direct influence in the classroom, even when not specifically re: "library things"?
  • charpin Oct 22 @ 9:10 PM EDT
A2: I feel like there are always great ideas that I can take away even if we're not in the exact same circumstance. Adaptations are crucial to teaching. #techtalkga
  • hollyfrilot Oct 22 @ 9:11 PM EDT
A1: Holly Frilot, Supervisor Library Media in Cobb jumping in late. I love all the possibilities present in our school libraries. #TECHtalkGA
  • jklcassidy Oct 22 @ 9:12 PM EDT

  • gabolhuis Oct 22 @ 9:13 PM EDT
A3: Leading from outside the media center: edcamps, @glma events, @GaETConf and teacher collaboration. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess, @drbooklady, @glma, @GaETConf
  • Media_Barber Oct 22 @ 9:13 PM EDT
A3. Check out @bivlms session also at 3:15pm I think this makes it clear how the partnership benefits the school. #TECHtalkGA
  • DeborahHuggard Oct 22 @ 9:14 PM EDT
Q3: By making the Learning Commons a place students want to be we improve relationships and school culture and everyone reaps the benefit of that!#TECHtalkGA
  • hollyfrilot Oct 22 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A2: So much crossover work in library...and I like being with others who like to think and brainstorm about what we can do for kids. #TECHtalkGA
  • lwilban Oct 22 @ 9:14 PM EDT
A3: In addition to promoting reading, I help teachers see how things like robotics and 3D printing can relate directly to their standards. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:14 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A3: I know, I'm not a L/MS...but I am definitely friends with lots. And we encounter many of the same issues. As a "tech coach," I like to offer sessions on assessment creation & uses, or data interpretation, b/c they're not expected. ;) But those all have CR uses!
    • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:10 PM EDT

  • RhondaStroud9 Oct 22 @ 9:15 PM EDT

#TECHtalkGA Q4: On Thurs 11.08.18, @jennsaine will present her experience with collaborating with a classroom T to create dynamic, interactive learning experiences for Ss (Kenyan 1-2, 11a). How do extend your reach out of the MC to get into classrooms?
  • gabolhuis Oct 22 @ 9:16 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Agreed! We're all educators, and I'm some cases, we have to remind others.
    In reply to @MmeBurgess
  • mtartaro Oct 22 @ 9:16 PM EDT
A1 - Marc here from Cobb County, GA. I teach 5th grade and love the Research Room in our Media Center where kiddos can do computer research. #TECHtalkGA
  • LintheLibrary Oct 22 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A3: Student voice. I listen to my students' needs and then take these needs to teachers and admin to make the biggest impact. #techtalkga
  • charpin Oct 22 @ 9:17 PM EDT
A3: I like to utilize tools like @canva to create my 'marketing' materials for the LLC. Last month, I had teachers ask how I made my infographic. Things like that can open doors... #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:18 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A4: Now that I'm not IN a school, I have to work harder at this. When I *was* in a school, I JUMPED on those casual, hallway/lunchtime convos to see what Ts wanted and then just invited myself in. Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. 🤷🏼‍♀️
    • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:16 PM EDT

  • jklcassidy Oct 22 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A4: @siegmundIT does some great sessions with #novelengineering and I always think #bannedbookweek is a big hit. #TECHtalkGA
  • lwilban Oct 22 @ 9:19 PM EDT
A4: I show up to grade level meetings whenever I can. Even if it's just to listen. We have great conversations and come up with some great ideas! #TECHtalkGA
  • readmakelearn Oct 22 @ 9:20 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A3: Never stop talking about the cool stuff you know how to do & how you're willing to help them every step of the way Get Ss on board too - show them the latest cool thing and how they can use it with stds. They will beg their teacher to work with you!
  • DeborahHuggard Oct 22 @ 9:20 PM EDT
Q4: Be available. Offer! Make it known that they'd be doing you a favor if they allowed you to come in (they are!). I don't have classes and students of "my own" to do all this great stuff with, but I'd love to"borrow" theirs and help them. #TECHtalkGA
  • jklcassidy Oct 22 @ 9:20 PM EDT
    Lead by example #leadlap #modelyourvalues #techtalkga
    In reply to @charpin, @canva
  • mtartaro Oct 22 @ 9:21 PM EDT
Why am I not seeing any Qs? #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Oct 22 @ 9:21 PM EDT
A4. I'm reaching classrm teachers through the Tiger Tissue Tabloid that sits in the faculty bathrooms. It works! #TECHtalkGA
  • LintheLibrary Oct 22 @ 9:21 PM EDT
A4: I walk in to classrooms and see what my peers are doing. I don't wait for an invitation. A sense of humor works well, too. #techtalkga
  • mycalfdoll Oct 22 @ 9:21 PM EDT
A4: I think someone stated something similar, but Ts will see when it impacts another classroom. Water everyone, tend the few. Soon more will want tending too. #TECHtalkGA
  • gabolhuis Oct 22 @ 9:21 PM EDT
A4: I hear from MS from all over that it's very difficult in some cases. Admins don't see them as teachers and teachers don't come to the media center when planning. Fixed schedule Media Specialists really struggle. #TECHtalkGA
    In reply to @MmeBurgess, @jennsaine
  • readmakelearn Oct 22 @ 9:22 PM EDT
#TECHTalkGA A4: I've recently started using #MicrosoftTeams to help with collaborative planning. It's truly helped, created at least 6 opportunities in the past few weeks and sure beats trying to coordinate my busy schedule with Ts planning periods.
  • jklcassidy Oct 22 @ 9:22 PM EDT
    #Techtalkga
    In reply to @Media_Barber
  • charpin Oct 22 @ 9:22 PM EDT
A4: Be present. You have to market yourself and your service. Attend meetings. Eat lunch with them. Be visible. #TECHtalkGA
  • RhondaStroud9 Oct 22 @ 9:23 PM EDT
A4: Again, the MS at my school forged a partnership with several departments to come to MC and learn new library based tech tools. #scribble @nearpod We also put a link to the MC website on the landing page of our LMS @D2L for quick student access #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:24 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA Q5: Also on Th, @MediaBarber will present on the the new AASL standards and how they connect DIRECTLY to your media center! (Span 1-2, 4:30p) Why is it important to connect our work to standards? BONUS: Shout out who we missed that are must-see L/MSs at #GaETC18!
  • gabolhuis Oct 22 @ 9:24 PM EDT
Today, I was on site at an elementary school and the awesome @mathis_tommye had refreshments out for the teachers. #TECHtalkGA
  • RhondaStroud9 Oct 22 @ 9:25 PM EDT
We did a Blind Date with a Book session a few weeks back. #TECHtalkGA

  • jklcassidy Oct 22 @ 9:27 PM EDT
    A5. Standards drive everything. #TECHtalkGA
  • Media_Barber Oct 22 @ 9:27 PM EDT
A5. Connecting to national standards shows that we are doing things that are valued across the country. 11.8.18 @ 4:30pm in Spanish 1-2. #TECHtalkGA
  • mycalfdoll Oct 22 @ 9:28 PM EDT
A5: I think it helps connect to the work in the classroom. Showing how something connects back to student learning in the content area convinces Ts to utilize MC/MS #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:28 PM EDT
#TECHtalkGA A5: Standards are THE thing that connect "out of classroom" EDUs to "in classroom" EDUs. We all have them, we all should be using them. They can build the bridge between us!

A5: I’m presenting on Thursday afternoon on how #hashtags and pins are changing education. It’s my dissertation topic for #itecedd at @KSUITEC Come see what I’m finding bexcuting stuff to@be on@the cutting edge of education. #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:29 PM EDT
We like chatting but would love to see you! Mark your calendar for a F2F meet-up for #TECHtalkGA on 11.7.18 at #GaETC18! - hotel lobby after the after-party, 8pm. Come when you can, leave when you want!
  • DeborahHuggard Oct 22 @ 9:29 PM EDT
Q5: Whether we like it or not we are all bound by the standards and the inevitable lack of time to cover them. Media/tech services have to be proven relevant and efficient to Ts or they just won't use them #TECHtalkGA
  • LintheLibrary Oct 22 @ 9:29 PM EDT
A5: Aligning our work to the standards allows us to measure our effectiveness on student learning. It makes our work valid. #techtalkga
  • RhondaStroud9 Oct 22 @ 9:30 PM EDT
A5: Standards help guide you as you build your portfolio and get in a groove of what works and what doesn’t. They’re important because they help us help Ss and Ts create goals for their learning and growth #TECHtalkGA
  • MmeBurgess - Moderator Oct 22 @ 9:31 PM EDT
