Helloooo, #TECHtalkGA!
I'm Angela, Dist ITS for MS/HS + French 1 teacher in Forsyth Co!
Besides the books (#introvert), my fave thing about the MCs that I've had is the opportunity for learners to grown independently OR in groups!
A1: Hi! I'm Sherri Kenworthy and I'm an elementary librarian with @CobbSchools. My favorite thing about my media center is that it's different everyday! I love the challenges and adventures!
A1: Rhonda from Gwinnett LSTC at Lanier HS. I love the openness of our media center. Everyday it is full of students reading, collaborating, and enjoying the space. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q2: On Weds 11.07.18, @gabolhuis leads a session all about building your PLN & promoting school programming (Germ 1-2, 4:30p).
Why is it important to network with others in similar fields, even though they're not always the same?
Deborah, Dawson HS, Media and tech specialist, fave thing is that all different students come in and enjoy our space, it's noisy and fun and welcoming to everyone #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A2: You should always network with others in similar fields to learn from one another. I can't count the number of times I've been inspired to try something new or tweak something I've been doing.
#TECHtalkGA A2:
I feel like we all have SO MUCH to learn from each other! Even if we're in different fields, I can learn *something* from everyone!
And I *adore* @gabolhuis, so I will do all I can to make it to her session!

A2: For me growing my #PLN was the best decision I’ve made professionally. It helped me feel less lonely at times when it seemed like I was deserted by everything. #TECHtalkGA
A2: I think it is so important to network with others even if they do not do exactly what we do. It's a great way to get new ideas and maybe refine what we are doing. #TECHtalkGA
A1: Libby Miller, Savannah-Chatham Instructional Technology Coach. I love learning and sharing with our LMTSs. They are our first line of contact at many schools. #TECHtalkGA
A2: there's a lot of crossed and shared roles and they are in a constant state of change. Talking to others keeps you from getting stuck in"one way" to do what you do. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q3: Also on Weds, @drbooklady presents a session on digital tools for giving Ss feedback (Marriott E, 3:15p).
How do you make it clear to those in your bldg that your expertise has a direct influence in the classroom, even when not specifically re: "library things"?
A2: I feel like there are always great ideas that I can take away even if we're not in the exact same circumstance. Adaptations are crucial to teaching. #techtalkga
A3: offer to coteach a session on how to do citations or search the library catalog. You will be amazed at how many teachers will be excited to have an expert help out. #TECHtalkGA
Q3: By making the Learning Commons a place students want to be we improve relationships and school culture and everyone reaps the benefit of that!#TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3:
I know, I'm not a L/MS...but I am definitely friends with lots. And we encounter many of the same issues.
As a "tech coach," I like to offer sessions on assessment creation & uses, or data interpretation, b/c they're not expected. ;) But those all have CR uses!

#TECHtalkGA Q4: On Thurs 11.08.18, @jennsaine will present her experience with collaborating with a classroom T to create dynamic, interactive learning experiences for Ss (Kenyan 1-2, 11a).
How do extend your reach out of the MC to get into classrooms?
A1 - Marc here from Cobb County, GA. I teach 5th grade and love the Research Room in our Media Center where kiddos can do computer research. #TECHtalkGA
A3: I like to utilize tools like @canva to create my 'marketing' materials for the LLC. Last month, I had teachers ask how I made my infographic. Things like that can open doors... #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A4:
Now that I'm not IN a school, I have to work harder at this.
When I *was* in a school, I JUMPED on those casual, hallway/lunchtime convos to see what Ts wanted and then just invited myself in.
Sometimes it worked, sometimes not. 🤷🏼♀️

How do extend your reach out of the MC to get into classrooms?
A4: I show up to grade level meetings whenever I can. Even if it's just to listen. We have great conversations and come up with some great ideas! #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A3: Never stop talking about the cool stuff you know how to do & how you're willing to help them every step of the way Get Ss on board too - show them the latest cool thing and how they can use it with stds. They will beg their teacher to work with you!
Q4: Be available. Offer! Make it known that they'd be doing you a favor if they allowed you to come in (they are!). I don't have classes and students of "my own" to do all this great stuff with, but I'd love to"borrow" theirs and help them. #TECHtalkGA
A4: I think someone stated something similar, but Ts will see when it impacts another classroom. Water everyone, tend the few. Soon more will want tending too. #TECHtalkGA
A4: I hear from MS from all over that it's very difficult in some cases. Admins don't see them as teachers and teachers don't come to the media center when planning. Fixed schedule Media Specialists really struggle. #TECHtalkGA
#TECHTalkGA A4: I've recently started using #MicrosoftTeams to help with collaborative planning. It's truly helped, created at least 6 opportunities in the past few weeks and sure beats trying to coordinate my busy schedule with Ts planning periods.
A4: Again, the MS at my school forged a partnership with several departments to come to MC and learn new library based tech tools. #scribble@nearpod We also put a link to the MC website on the landing page of our LMS @D2L for quick student access #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA Q5: Also on Th, @MediaBarber will present on the the new AASL standards and how they connect DIRECTLY to your media center! (Span 1-2, 4:30p)
Why is it important to connect our work to standards?
BONUS: Shout out who we missed that are must-see L/MSs at #GaETC18!
A5: I think it helps connect to the work in the classroom. Showing how something connects back to student learning in the content area convinces Ts to utilize MC/MS #TECHtalkGA
#TECHtalkGA A5:
Standards are THE thing that connect "out of classroom" EDUs to "in classroom" EDUs.
We all have them, we all should be using them.
They can build the bridge between us!

A5: I’m presenting on Thursday afternoon on how #hashtags and pins are changing education. It’s my dissertation topic for #itecedd at @KSUITEC Come see what I’m finding bexcuting stuff to@be on@the cutting edge of education. #TECHtalkGA
We like chatting but would love to see you! Mark your calendar for a F2F meet-up for #TECHtalkGA on 11.7.18 at #GaETC18! - hotel lobby after the after-party, 8pm.
Come when you can, leave when you want!
Q5: Whether we like it or not we are all bound by the standards and the inevitable lack of time to cover them. Media/tech services have to be proven relevant and efficient to Ts or they just won't use them #TECHtalkGA
A5: Standards help guide you as you build your portfolio and get in a groove of what works and what doesn’t. They’re important because they help us help Ss and Ts create goals for their learning and growth #TECHtalkGA
Great chat tonight, #TECHtalkGA! Thanks to everyone who participated!
