Josh Hadden. Silver Bluff HS. Aiken, SC. Thankful for my family and the chance to work with great people every day as teachers and as coaches. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: We try to make it as normal as possible. Stick to the normal timeline as much as you can and don’t throw too many curveballs at the kids. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: We keep the routine the same. Our kids love wearing their whites, so that gets them pumped. In game, take shots, and don't let them build home town momentum #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: Some of our road games are 4 t 5 hours one way, so we have gotten good at this: 1) Leave with extra time do NOT be rushed, 2) Travel Sweats - we look like team but are comfortable. 3) 20 minute break after every 2 hrs on road. 4) Stop & eat 1 hour before game. #TXHSFBCHAT
A1: continue 5) take ice chest of high proteins - lunch meat, cheese, jerky 6) No Processed Sugar or Energy drinks on trip they'll be crashing at half if they do #TXHSFBCHAT let kids move & graze as much s possible.
A1: Continued - road games that involve spending the night - we always prefer to stay after game rather than before unless it is an afternoon game. Road trips overnight is a whole other creature #txhsfbchat
2 League Opponents - Waldport Irish & Toledo Boomers 5 hours up Hwy 101 on rugged Oregon coast. Preseason can involve 6 hours and a night in gym or hotel, playoffs could be 11 hours away #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: we like to press the Outside WRs to take away quick game and force them to work. Mixing one high and two high looks is essential too so they aren’t reading the backend too often. #TXHSFBCHAT
A2: Don't see a lot of it but depending on what the offense is trying to do we would probably treat it like option. More than likely use cover 1 man. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3 I still teach head across the bow in certain situations, but have taken the hawk tackle approach and shoulder leverage tackling is the best way to teach IMO. #TXHSFBCHAT
A3 to each is own but our staff never incorporated rugby style tackling, but I do believe teaching progression is so important in getting our athletes to tackle safe and efficiently. #txhsfbchat
A2: We prefer combo coverage that employee 2 Zone or 2 Man to Field or Formation & Man to Weak side or Boundary. Also Man with FS Robbing #txhsfbchat Also nothing wrong with solid well coached Cover 3
2nd Round OSAA Playoff - Day 1 drive to Bend, Oregon 5 hours, Day 2 drive to Ontario, Oregon 5 hours, Day 3 Play Vale Vikings & drive 5 hours back to Bend Day 4 Drive 5 hours back to Gold Beach, Oregon -Road Warriors #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I like doing my technique work during our individual periods. I usually try to play rep during 7 on 7 session. It varies a little each week #TXHSFBCHAT
A3: We have been watching videos and drill work. Then as a staff we teach each other & make sure we have it down. Then we introduce into one of our weekly tackling circuits. Still new frontier for some of us - but good stuff #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I feel like the way we practice with pace in the season, we need to focus more technique in the spring and focus on the application of it to each play practiced in the fall #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: I think it starts with offensive playbook development. Simple system based on execution or Complex that requires mental & rehearsal time. In our Veer Option our plays are simple so bulk of our time devoted to technique #TXHSFBCHAT
See I think just the opposite, lets get mental & rehearsal time when rules require no pads, but when pads come on it has to be Tech Time. #TXHSFBCHAT but I think that is based on our system not one way better than the other.
A5: usually 4-5. It depend as on what they line up in defensively and where we can best attack them. We usually run our scheme no matter what though #TXHSFBCHAT
A5: We're pretty run heavy have about 5 main runs that we carry into every game. We look at how we anticipate to be defended and look for the "bubble" and/ or certain players that we want to try to attack #TXHSFBCHAT
A4: teach techniques early on so they have a toolbox to use in game. They need to know it already but film shows areas that need work weekly and can get extra emphasis. #TXHSFBCHAT
A6 try and see what qualities and abilities they posses and how they can fit a certain position. Allow kids a choice is most instances but have a best fit position in mind #TXHSFBCHAT
A6: While we listen to the kids desires one of the first lessons they learn about our culture & our team is coaches decide where they play for the good of the team #TXHSFBCHAT
A6: The best players will play at the best positions they can to help us at the end of the day. It’s all about team first! And that could change at any given moment no matter who you are. #TXHSFBCHAT
A6: We base it on freshman season performance. We evaluate them more as we work with them in the spring. Base our decision on kid skill set and where they will help the team the most #TXHSFBCHAT
Q6: Because we have had outstanding FB over the yearsin our Veer System every incoming freshman is - a want to be FB. We explain that all FB start out as a Left Guard #TXHSFBCHAT
A6 We start with our QB position. We have to have the right kids in this position. We move other skill kids around to fit needs but QB is the man that makes the show go. #TXHSFBCHAT
